Global warming to blame for arson?
Posted by: Jonathan Garthwaite at 4:58 PM
Poor Harry Reid.   Can't seem to get his mouth out of the way of his foot.

Just hours after blaming the California fires on global warming, CBS News reported that:

a task force of agencies, including the FBI, ATF, the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the California Department of Forestry will announce shortly that the massive Santiago Canyon Fire - which has caused an estimated $10 million in damage - is being officially declared an arson, and a $50,000 reward is being offered to find the arsonist.

Perfectly logical
The arsonist was starting a "backfire" to burn up a swath of planet in the path of global warming in an effort to stop it before it spreads. Arsonists might be up on the latest commie junk science but they aren't that bright. I'm sure Harry Reid understands. No one else does.

Typical Democratic B.S.
Does MoveOn.DNC EVER just STFU? AND... there is also Boxer blaming the fires on the Iraq War! AND... there's Dodd blaming Iraq AND the President! AND... if Bush goes to California he'll either be a) too soon or 2) too late 3) asked why he didn't do the same for New Orleans, so either way, he doesn't win (gee, where is all the looting and killing at Jack Murphy?). Everytime they open their mouths, their agenda and mind set become clear.

arson/global warming.
So if the fires are the result of global warming whos is more to blame? the republicans, the democrats, Independants?

I would say all equally. The republicans are big oils best friend. The democrats wont let us harvest our own oil under our soverign soil. The independents for not making enough of a stink about it.

Harry Reid is pretty foolish for blaming it on global warming regardless. Any one with a lick of sense knows that those fires in California happen from time to time when the area is not periodically control burned. I suggest those homes were built in a tinder zone, it got hot and dry like it does every year there and it caught on fire during the windy season.

Global warming may have made it hotter, ok i'll give him that. but to blame it totally on global warming is nieve.

Moral depravity or specious science?
Take your pick, because the left has cornered the marked of obtuse moral and intellectual pursuits...it features the full spectrum from the moral depravity of slaughtering the innocent unborn to the specious science of 'global warming.'

Either would constitute grounds to certify them as political anomolies, but together they form a pair of ignoble and despicable political bookends.

In the course of one generation they effectively traduced every sacred and common sense tradition.

Arson

The logical suspects are terrorists and leftist anarchists.

Some lefty scientist should hypothesize that the heat from the fires is causing global warming as all of the CO2 trapped in the trees is released. That should get some grant money for a study. They could set some more fires as an experiment to test the hypothesis.

However, the results would probably conflict with the lefty forest service policy of letting forest fires burn as that is supposed to be natural and good for the environment?

Scary Reid is just a propagandist

Harry Reid is just a weird guy.

We'll learn that several of the fires are a result of arson.

Additionally, the Malibu fire near Pepperdine is a result of the seasonal Santa Ana winds knocking over power lines, and yet another one of the fires was a result of flying sparks from a construction crew.

Over the years, there have been a great number of arson fires in So Cal at this time of year.
The arsonists know that this is the most 'productive' time to set them when the Santa Anas are blowing.

Also, these fires have a lot of fuel (i.e. dead brush, dead trees) to burn, because the environmental wackos always object to clearing that stuff out.
Thus, when a fire does come along, it ends up being worse than it 'had' to be.

Right guys
Sure, sure, there is always some convenient explanation for all of this, which is usually the "fault" of the Dems, leftists, commies, environmental wackos, etc.

Why is it SOOOO hard to understand that changes in climate can and will continue to affect our lives. The drought in the Southwest is not "just one of those things." The drought in the Southeast isn't either, for that matter. The shrinking polar ice cap isn't an aberation or a random fluke. You can stick you head further and further into the sand, but it won't change reality.

I'm not suggesting that arsonists did not start a number of these fires. I'm suggesting that climate changes made them worse.

And/but/so
I actually agree with you on a couple of points here. The first of which is that political people do generally blame the opposition for everything.

The second is that there is climate change, and it will affect our lives. The drought in the South is not "just one of those things." Just like it wasn't one of those things in the 30s during the dust bowl.

I just don't see how global warming is to blame for the fires. Senator Reid (the subject of the article) did not say that global warming made the fires more severe, he said that it was one of the reasons for the fires. No mention of severity.

My personal opinion is that the dead brush in the forests makes them more severe. I lived in Portland, OR when President Bush offered up the Healthy Forests Initiative. The liberals up there went crazy, saying that it was a way for "The Administration (TM)" to give loggers more access to cutting down healthy trees, and deforestization. Then, when Oregon had their forest fires, a lot of the same people were complaining that President Bush didn't do enough to clear out the "kindling" as they called it.

Bro, you're hilarious.
You scream that WE have 'some convenient explanation,' 'fault' or 'blame,' yet you BLAME a cyclical temperature change on...SUVs !
And your majority leader, Scary Reid, is running around like Paul Revere, hollering that the fires were caused by "global warming," and John Garamendi is blaming it on...the War in Iraq.

The fact that a cyclical temp change has occurred does NOT mean that humans have caused it.
Back in the '70s, the 'omniscient scientists' were insisting that we were entering into a new ice---'global C-O-O-L-I-N-G.'

By the way, you're obviously not a So Cal boy.
The Santa Ana winds are seasonal---they've been going on at this time of year since before Henry Ford built his assembly line.

And the hot air that you and Scary Reid, Barbara Boxer, and John Garamendi are blowing is more than seasonal---it's year round.

ice age

I accidentally omitted a word, thus it ought to have read;
"back in the '70s, the omniscient scientists were insisting that we were entering into a new ice AGE..."
