1) Learn to spell 2) If there is all this "grief/anger/dismay" that Romney is not the nominee? Why did he not win the nomination and how come McCain leads Hillary and trails Obama by the slimmest of margins? I work on Wall Street and most people I talk to are thrilled McCain is the nominee.
Face it, Romney sucked as a campaigner. He raised the most money of the serious Republican contenders and lost. He could not even carry the closed primaries. As for all the Romney supporters complaining Huckabee, Giuliani and Thompson cost him the nomination is a bunch of nonsense. If Romney was such a great campaigner he would have won their votes.
Romney is through politically. In 2016 the real contenders will be Jindal, DeMint, Sanford, Coburn, Pawlenty and NOT Romney.
|
|
There is a collective sigh of grief/anger/dismay that Romney is not the nominee and McCain is, ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. Every single person I respect in the media was on board for Romney. Everyone is lamenting the fact that Romney won hearts and minds just a little too late.
I don't think Romney was a terrible campaigner at all. I believe the MSM, the DNC, the GOP elites, the pro-amnesty crowd, and anti-Mormon bigotry (brought to the front by Huck) combined to take Romney out.
But, he'll be back stronger, smarter and even more qualified to take on the challenge. And I believe he will win. |
|
|
Hate to break it to you Romney on his best day is not even close to Reagan on his worst. Reagan made most Ford supporters second guess their votes at the 1976 RNC. I have yet to find one McCain supporter who thinks they made a mistake and should have supported Romney. Romney was a TERRIBLE campaigner. |
|
Apparently you are the one who has been absent this past week. He easily won the straw poll at CPAC, even after he withdrew. He had ALL of talk radio on his side - these are the actial representatives of the conservative movement.
You are just wrong, Con. Romney is now considered the leader of the conservative movement. It ain't Fred, Rudy or Huck. |
|
I think Huck would not be the right choice either. As noted above there is a lot of 'suspicion' about him and his character by some religious minded people that would make him unlikely to add anything (and definitely lose the west) if Huck were on the ticket. Romney actually polled fairly well in the South. Wouldn't it have been interesting if it would have been a Romney / McCain primary only and see where the votes went?? McCain could only hope that Romney would accept the VP spot after all of the hostility and 'piling on' and ganging up by him and Huck. Might make better sense to choose someone like Fred Thompson. All I know is not Huckabee and 'chose wisely' McCain!!!
I wouldn't give up on McCain against Obama just yet: They said Reagan couldn't win either. Once Obama has to really say what he is for and during debates about it the contrast my be enough to have resonable people go to McCain. I just hope that McCain holds to as many conservative values as he can. |
|
Mike Huckabee would make a terrible VP choice for John McCain and the country. John McCain has a chance in the general election against Barack Obama and even more against Hillary Clinton. Mike Huckabee would dissolve a large portion of the independent support that John McCain will probably get otherwise. If he loses this independent support, it will go to the Democrat candidate against him.
John McCain needs to deliberate very carefully and find a Conservative Republican who is not viewed as being intolerant. This does not mean that John McCain should shy away for Conservative Ideas, instead he needs to make Conservative Ideals a central part of his campaign. At the same time John McCain needs to take care that he and his VP do not come across as being judgmental and intolerant.
If the economy continues to be stressed, John McCain will need a VP that has a strong fiscal/economic background. John McCain does not need to find the most ardent of Social Conservatives, but need a VP that is sufficiently aligned with the Social Conservative issues to maintain the Social Conservative portion of the base.
The reality is that both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are extremely pro-choice, in favor of gay marriage, and generally disagree with all things that Social Conservatives cherish. Although John McCain may not be as Socially Conservative as some may like, he is sufficiently Social Conservative especially when you consider the alternatives.
John McCain will be attacked on several issues by the Democrats. With a careful and deliberate VP choice he can reduce or eliminate much of the impact. He also needs to anticipate the strengths of the opposition and bolster his ticket to reduce the advantage they may have. |
|
For you Huckabee haters...
Did he raise taxes? Sure...but what did he do with those taxes? HE GOVERNED! Improvement to Education in AR (48th to 8th in the Nation), improvement in AR roads, terrible to most improved. Ultimately ended up with a surplus in the AR budget..over $840M the year he left office.
You can go through anybody's record and find things that aren't exactly copasetic to your values and viewpoints. I don't like everything about Huckabee. BUT I like more about him than any of the others. McCain is a RINO and Romney (who was my 2nd choice) was a "plastic" candidate to me.
I will say this in closing. Our country is in dire need of saving. And I KNOW that person isn't Clinton, Obama OR McCain. |
|
"He won the hearts and minds of real conservatives."
Have you been out of the country for the last year?
Most conservatives can't stand Romney because they know he ain't no conservative.
|
|
I remember Reagan and voted for him. Romney has the potential to be as great a president as Reagan, but not in the same way. Romney would bring extreme intelligence and capability to the presidency. His moral fiber is solid, his life an example of virtuous living, and his qualifications superior to anyone running this time. I look forward to 2012, Romney has laid an excellent foundation for another run. He won the hearts and minds of real conservatives.
I cannot vote for McCain, and I will not vote for Hillary or Obama. My only option is to write in Romney, and I intend to do so, barring some unforseeable event. |
|
Religious because he used religious bigotry against Mormons to gain votes, and then lied about it. (What? Who me?)
Political because his record is liberal. Now, if he would denounce his past tax-raising, his pro-amnesty record, his business-slamming rhetoric, and apolgize to all of us for commuting 1000 criminals, I would respect him, if not support him.
Character, because he's a proven liar. Take any number of examples. He denied the question was planted to the NYT reporter, he lied about the floating cross (he thinks we're all stupid), he lied about the fakeout negative ad he showed to the media, but did not release. He lied about his role in DuMond's pardon.
IQ - he admits to eating fried squirrel, he's ignorant on economic and foreign policy issues, he shoots his gun over the heads of reporters saying it is a message to Romney "Don't get in my way". I mean, some of these things are quite funny, but they do prove that he's not presidential timber.
|
|
This is my favorite take-away from what Matt wrote... "McCain also acknowledged he still needs to unite the base and unite the Republican Party, to win in November."
There is NOTHING he could do at this point to unite the base. Why? Because the base is smarter than the Republican Party!
|
|
|
The only thing you got right is calling me "sir." If you are so smart explain to me how someone who is pro-life, pro-second amendment, want to make the Bush tax cuts permanent, abolish the death tax, win the war on terror, secure the border, wants private sector healthcare, and would appoint conservative judges like Roberts, Thomas and Scalia is not a conservative. If Ronald Reagan was alive today and reading all these shots so called conservatives are taking at McCain he would truly be ashamed. Then again if Ronald Reagan were running for President right now you Romney supporters would probably be taking the same sort of cheap shots at him. |
|
you have just spent your last dozen posts bashing Southern Baptists!!!
Its like Yt_Knight said, the Rombots' problems with Huck are religious not political. How about that, Huck's problems with the LDS are religious not political. Why don't we just keep to records and positions?
Like, and this is for Shannon, how McCain took money from George Soros. |
|
Or just Huckabee followers?
Ladies and Gents... if you are telling me that Southern Baptists (of which I am not one as mentioned above) are all evil, I'm not buying it. If you are telling me that no Southern Baptist should ever be president, I can't agree. Conversely, if anyone out there wants to convince me that a Mormon should never be president I will disagree. If you are telling me that Huckabee did the unforgivable by asking if Mormons believe that Jesus and the Devil are brothers... I'm not convinced.
PC, for your reading pleasure I am reposting this:
Romney calls Huckabee soft on Illegal Aliens (Huckabee signed NumbersUSA “No Amnesty” pledge) Romney calls Huckabee a tax and spender (Huckabee has touted the FairTax since the summer) Romney calls Huckabee soft on crime (16 executions is soft?) PC, did crime go up or down as a result of Huckabee's governing?
Folks, the Fair Tax is key for me. It is the single most common sense issue that that will bring power back to the people and away from Washington power-brokers & lobbiests (making our finances transparent vs. convaluted). Please get past this religious bickering & let's do something good for our country's future.
Peace,
YK |
|
Peace be to you.
Whether or not Huckabee was being disingenuous when he made the comment about Jesus and Satan being brothers, and I agree he could well have known that the Mormons did indeed teach that Jesus was Lucifer's older spirit brother, I remain puzzled as to why Mormons did not see that as an opportunity to explain what they believe about Jesus being Satan's older brother. I would not ordinarily call it bigoted to speak the truth.
Finally, I do not think that Huckabee had the money to run any "contrast adds" about Huckabee. I could be mistaken, but Huck did not spend over $1,000,000 in Iowa and Romney spent $10,000,000 in Iowa. Most of that was spent on these "contrast adds" that were obviously slanted with assertions based on only partial truths. |
|
|
The LDS Church has donated millions of dollars to religions that build in Salt Lake City and other places to help promote good will and understanding. I think that's quite a contrast to other places just mentioned. |
|
Yes, commuting the sentences of 100 criminals is soft on crime. He also gave a cold shoulder to the crime victims who protested the releases.
He raised 500 mil in new taxes - it's not disputable and he even admitted it during the debate when directly questioned about it. He called it raising hope. He's a liberal tax-raiser.
If you read all of the comments here by LeeLee, how can you question what Huckabee did? It's also not disputable. He was the key note speaker at an anti- Mormon convention in SLC. He knows full well about Mormon doctrine and the question was not innocent - it was an ugly, un-American tactic meant to divide social conservatives, and cast dispersions on the LDS faith.
The animosity is one-sided coming from the Baptists. The LDS Church never engages in such behavior. |
|
I actually found the article that referenced googling ("Christians for Truth" huckabee).
I hate to be a simpleton but... doesn't this all boil down to the "my religion is better than yours" argument?
From the article, "Protestant leaders have been objecting to various tenets of Mormonism for 175 years, but Southern Baptists grew especially alarmed when Mormon churches moved into Georgia and Texas in the 1980s. Since then, the Southern Baptist Convention has moved aggressively to warn its members about the "dangers" of the Mormon faith"
Do folks of the Mormon faith take lightly to another religious group's expanding to their turf? If I call it as I see it this is a turf war which, again, is sad.

I'm really appreciating the relatively civil conversation going on here. I am a Mormon and have many times been disappointed by the bitter comments that go back and forth as a blog such as this gets lengthy. It's true, as was said, that most of these things boil down to religion.
In December it seemed like the anti-mormon sentiment was in full swing. I was really feeling bad that Mormonism was getting smeared by nieve phobics and the like. I wrote a couple of blogs specifically about the phenomenon entitled "Appreciating the Whole Picture" and "What Makes a 'Mormon'?". Click on my name to go to the blog. http://sharingmormonbeliefs.townhall.com/Default.aspx
I hope all can learn from each other and appreciate the good that religion can bring. |
|
On December 5, the Southern Baptist Convention's North American Mission Board launched a three-part website series called "Is Mormonism Christian?" Among the highlights of the second installment: "Deceived or deceiver? Either way, it seems pretty clear that Joseph Smith was not a prophet of God. Accordingly, despite the fact that the Mormon church embraces a few beliefs in line with biblical Christianity it is demonstrably a false religion." The following day, the series declared, "Mormonism is a theological cult." And in addressing the question of Romney's candidacy, it stated that while his issue positions could be what matter most, "others may argue, a Mormon president would provide Mormonism with visibility beyond anything it has had up to now and consequently give a boost to Mormon missionary efforts."
Less than a week later, The New York Times Magazine quoted Huckabee as saying he didn't know much about Mormonism and asking, "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?" Huckabee later said he was speaking out of unfamiliarity, with no harm intended. Sure he was. Just like the commenters on Huckabee's website who slammed Mormonism for weeks afterward were, too.

The Baptists' propaganda efforts have been successful. In November 2006, 53 percent of evangelical Christians (compared with 43 percent of all Americans) told a Rasmussen survey they would never even consider voting for a Mormon presidential candidate. Last December, the Pew Research Center found that of white evangelicals who attend church regularly, 52 percent believe Mormonism is not Christian. . . .
Last August, for example, in advance of the Iowa straw poll, a group called U.S. Christians for Truth circulated a flyer that stated: "We strongly believe that Jesus Christ, if he were alive in the flesh in this time and voted, would NEVER vote for Mitt Romney under any circumstances. ... Mitt Romney represents Mormonism which is counterfeit Christianity, a cult."
(Cont'd) |
|
Apparently the rift runs very deep.
Too bad. I think the Mormons were exactly right to stand up for their rights (and then ultimately move elsewhere to set up their community). There are many things in our countries past that were unjust/unfair.
Time is supposed to heal. Let's hope that ultimately it does.
|
|
Talk, talk, talk drop something Mitt...oh yeah here it is you dropped the Reagan card again.
Even with the blanket support of the talk-radio machine,$100million and countless conservative endorsements Mitt Romney can not get enough going to get it done.
If moromon wasn't so much about keeping secrets and acting suspicous, if they didn't come to your door like bananas in pajamas, if they didn't tell you they are the ONLY true religion. It might not have been such an issue.
But it is and when you call yourself a conservative you have to show the credetials which is far from Mitts' record.
I don't have a problem with LDS but in a general election just imagine Russert asking Hillary about polygomy or Barrack about the Curse of Cain. No one really knows why those doctrines were written out of this purist of religions but one thing is certain. They refuse to condem those who wrote these sexist and racist doctrine and that is just foder for the fire.
The best thing Mitt could do is back Huck bury the hatchet, but if he backs McCain he will prove he is a liberal and never get another shot at any office |

PC
Do you REALLY believe that Huckabee is soft crime? Was there more crime in Akansas as a result of Huckabee's leadership?
Do you REALLY believe that Huckabee is a tax increaser? I mean REALLY? See my post higher up.
Why was Huckabee re-elected twice as governer of AR? Things couldn't have been that bad...
I keep hearing that Huckabee attacked the Mormon religion. What exactly did Huckabee (specifically Huckabee) say that attacked? After a few hours of this I only see the one comment that was more of an innocent question but, hey, if Mormons and Southern Baptists have been in conflict for 175 years, perhaps there is a much deeper issue.
I, for one, am willing to stand up for guy who will nail the going out of business sign on the IRS and work toward getting our personal freedoms, liberties, and competitive spirit back from the power-brokers. I won't let religious conflict that seems rooted for some 175 years affect my decision. I just googled "church of latter day saints arkansas" and it seems that the LDS religion is strong in AR. Has Huckabee been suppressing it?
I just can't understand all of the religious hatred.
Peace,

"A military order signed by Missouri Governor Lilburn W. Boggs on October 27, 1838, directed that the Mormons be driven from the state or exterminated (see Missouri Conflict). Boggs' action was based on information brought to him that day by two citizens of Richmond, Missouri, concerning the Mormon-Missourian conflicts in northwest Missouri and on reports of the Battle of Crooked River, in which armed Mormons had clashed with a company of state militia on October 25.
Boggs, acting in his capacity as commander-in-chief of the Missouri militia, ordered General John B. Clark to March to Ray County with a division of militia to carry out operations against armed Mormons. The order described the Mormons as being in "open and avowed defiance of the laws, and of having made war upon the people of this State." It stated that "the Mormons must be treated as enemies, and must be exterminated or driven from the State if necessary for the public peace—their outrages are beyond all description."
"The Mormons were persecuted for several reasons:
They didn't keep slaves, which was seen as a threat to the surrounding slave-owning culture at a time when the abolition of slavery was a big issue. Their doctrine of plural marriage was seen as a serious attack on the social and ethical rules of the period. The rapidly growing and tightly-knit Mormon communities had the potential to exercise considerable political power." Just a hunch that maybe this has something to do with the problems between the Mormons and Baptists |
|
"At least McCain has enough character and integrity to refrain from such sleazy behavior."
You don't consider lying to be 'sleazy behavior'? |
|
How to destroy your country & party - McCain's 3 step plan:
Step 1: Use your position of power to silence your critics by taking their freedoms of speech.
Step 2: Encourage illegal aliens to flood the country so that people that oppose you can never win another election.
Step 3: Slowly take away the public's remaining freedoms in the name of saving the planet from a hoax called global warming.
Don't Vote for McCain!!!!!! |
|
I've seen all of Romney's ads on his website. He did not go negative, but merely told the truth that Huckabee has a liberal past. One for which he refuses to acknowledge or apologize for.
Romney was wrong on the life issue and has said so. I can overlook it because he was willing to admit he was wrong in the past. |
|
Seems pretty clear that everything boils down to religion, spin, and koolaid. Very sad.
I support the Fair Tax as a bold change that will unleash American ingenuity and entrepreneurialism, bring jobs back to the USA, and make us more competitive globally. I support national security and fighting the war on terror outside of our borders. I support secure borders and building of the border fences. I support “no amnesty” and the NumbersUSA pledge. As a Catholic (who hasn’t been practicing for years) I support religious tolerance as long as terrorism is not part of the doctrine. I do not support “the game”, “the establishment”, “Washington/Wall Street power-brokers”, the puppeteers, or the puppets. I support Huckabee because he speaks to me as a small business owner, a family man, and as a patriot who will govern for the people. Peace,
YK

Is partly due to the fact that the LDS faith is the fastest growing religion in America, while the Baptists are fastest declining. That means a decline in revenue as well for them.
The LDS faith is almost an entirely volunteer organization. Bishops and other Church leaders volunteer and are not paid.
The SBC goes to great lengths to try to tear down the LDS faith, but they are not very successful at it, thankfully. |
|
I find this reprehensible. I find Huckabee as a person reprehensible. I will never, under any circumstance, vote for a liar who uses anti-Mormon bigotry to gain votes. We should not tolerate such ignoble behavior in our party. (We kind of expect it with the dems.)
We are better than this! We need to purge Huckabee and never let anyone get away with what he did again. At least McCain has enough character and integrity to refrain from such sleazy behavior.
RIP Huck. Oops, I forgot - he doesn't know Romney stuck a fork in him last Thurs. Ssshhhh. Let's hope he continues his embarrassing "I didn't major in math, but miracles" fantasy campaign and ensure the impossibility of a future run.
You go, Huck! |
|
maybe, maybe not, I really don't mind.
I found an article on Move America Forwards site the other day. In the blog section of this article, someone admitted to being a plant, confusing the message of the article so the mainstream media would not pick it up. He had played himself as a conservative christian and in the end mocked all the others for their stupidity at falling for his trick. He said he worked for moveon.org and was paid $75 for that job.
|
|
LeeLee, can we please at least agree that Romney isn’t squeaky clean and that there may have been return-fire and/or an exchange of cheap shots? I gave some concrete examples. You replied with your list. I believe the record shows that Romney ran the first negative ad of the campaign (against Huckabee). I don’t know that this is worth arguing though because I certainly am not after fueling fires. What I am after is discussion of issues and where this party is going.
Peace.

Pasted from the CBS News article at: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/02/08/opinion/main3807 966.shtml
Protestant leaders have been objecting to various tenets of Mormonism for 175 years, but Southern Baptists grew especially alarmed when Mormon churches moved into Georgia and Texas in the 1980s. Since then, the Southern Baptist Convention has moved aggressively to warn its members about the "dangers" of the Mormon faith, characterizing Mormonism as a cult in books and teaching kits it has offered to its members. As Columbia doctoral student Neil J. Young put it, "Probably no other organization in the nation has played a bigger role in perpetuating the idea that Mormonism is a cult than the Southern Baptist Convention."
In 1998, the Southen Baptists held their annual convention in Salt Lake City, opposing the "cult" head-on. As one minister called Mormonism "counterfeit Christianity" and the convention passed a resolution stipulating "biblical revelation [as opposed to, say, the Book of Mormon] as the sole source of saving truth," 3,000 Baptist volunteers went knocking on doors in the heart of the world capital of Mormonism, attempting to evangelize local residents.
Something else happened at that 1998 confab: The governor of Arkansas and former president of the Arkansas Baptist Convention, a fellow named Mike Huckabee, addressed the Pastors' Conference, a two-day meeting preceding the actual convention. "I got into politics," Huckabee told his fellow Baptist ministers, "because I knew government didn't have the real answers, that the real answers lie in accepting Jesus Christ into our lives." Reporters attending the Pastors' Conference found copies of Huckabee's most recent book, Kids Who Kill: Confronting our Culture of Violence, in the press room. They also got a book called Mormonism Unmasked.

They were not cheap shots about the Huckster - they were true. Pointing out RECORDS is fair, and even necessary.
Huck DID commute 1000 criminals.
He did raise enormous taxes in AK and called it "hope".
He was a very big pro-amnesty governor in actions and statements. He conveniently changed positions in the past 60 days when he realized his pro-amnesty record wouldn't do. I don't believe for a second he's had an honest change of heart. Talk about political expediency! And he copied the NR report (word for word) as his plan.
He did have ethical issues, he used anti-Mormon tactics against Romney, and called Romney a liar when Huck is actually the one lying about so much!
The ironic thing is that Huckabee is the real flip-flopper (taxes and immigration) and the one who went negative - not Romney.
The truth is Huckabee is a pro-life liberal.
|
|
Oz, as an acknowledgement, I have heard anti-Mormon talk-show guests. Not good. But if you want to call Huckabee out as a bigot at least give a concrete (without-a-doubt) example. If there are bigots out there who will not vote for a Mormon but that will vote for Huckabee or any other candidate is it fair to call that candidate out as being a bigot? Can we at least be fair here?
Shannon… no, not Eddie. Cute though.
I do wonder though… and this is serious… I wonder if there are plants who make these dumb-a$$ comments (anti-Mormon, anti-Southern Baptist), etc. who are really there to fuel the fires of hatred… I really am being serious about this and it really wouldn’t surprise me. Think about it… who stands to benefit with a handful of well-timed talk-radio calls and blog entries…
|
|
Huck repeatedly made comments about Romney and Mormonism that were uncalled for. Here are a fewe, just off the cuff:
1) The innocent "Don't Mormons believe Jesus & Satan are brothers?" routine.
2) The "Romney should stop spending his son's inheritance on his campaign" routine.
3) The "Romney has laid-off employees before, thus Romney is evil" routine.
4) The "Poor me, I'm not as rich as Romney and can't afford expensive TV ads" routine.
5) Huckabee ran television spots in Iowa calling himself a "Christian leader," and refused to say whether he thought the LDS Church was a cult, referring that question instead to Romney.
I can go on if you want.
|
|
"McCain is a true conservative and will be an excellent President when elected in November."
You sir, have no credibility. You are entitled to your opinions, but, your weak arguments will not persuade me and other conservatives to sell our souls and jump onboard your ship the McTitanic. |
|
Those are on policies not personal religion.
There's a difference. All those things are true about Huckabee.
Does the fact Huckabee changed his positions, means he's a flip flopper? |
|
YT_KNIGHT=eddie
now tell me i'm being paranoid... |
|
I think the G.O.P. is in big trouble as the U.S. becomes more multicultural.
The effects of the southern strategy can still be felt and bigotry rules the day.
Even though there's no african americans in the house or senate after J.C. Watts on the republican side, I thought the G.O.P. might be ready for change.
They brutally attacked Mitt Romney for being a Mormon. I couldn't believe it as I heard caller after caller on different shows say they can't vote for Romney because they can't get past his religion.
This is truly sad and the same talk racist use.
Romney ran the perfect campaign, it was just met with bigotry. Any observer knows Huckabee used religion as a wedge issue. This is the only reason Romney had to give the speech on religion.
The press pushed Huckabee to stop Romney in Iowa. This is why it was all Huckabee all the time before Iowa.
Some thought Rudy had built a firewall and his only hope was to stop Romney in Iowa and NH. So they pushed Huckabee and then McCain.
I think the defeat of the G.O.P. will be very bad and it will take years to recover because the bigots will not let go of their BIGOTRY. |
|
When did we start minimalizing our standards for a candidate?
Oh that is right conservatives don't not when it comes to this.
Democrats vote on emotion. Listen to Shannon she is wrapped up tight in her immorallities.
Conservative vote on principles listen to all those here opposed to McSlain. They will not vote for a liberal. They will only vote against one or it they only have a choice of liberalisms they opt out.
When John looses to a third party and gets only 20% of the vote let us talk about what Obama wants to do to your body, country, income, country etc.... |
|
Perhaps if you took the time to understand our discontent with McCain, rather than bashing us for not jumping on his bandwagon, you might see we are only tying to be true to ourselves and our principles.
We don't expect you to agree with us. If John McCain is the true conservative you claim he is, then he should have no trouble convincing conservatives to follow him. Right?
Take a lesson from Yt_Knight, who tries first to understand.
|
|
LeeLee… what cheap shots?
I am still at a loss for specifics about cheap shots…
To be fair… there were millions of dollars of mischaracterization thrown by Romney at Huckabee. Can Romney supporters at least be honest and acknowledge this?
Romney calls Huckabee soft on Illegal Aliens (Huckabee signed NumbersUSA “No Amnesty” pledge) Romney calls Huckabee a tax and spender (Huckabee has touted the FairTax for many months) Romney calls Huckabee soft on crime (16 executions is soft?)
Please folks… can we at least be honest? I know we all, to some extent, drink the kool-aid of our respective candidates but can we at least acknowledge that cheap shots may have caused counter attacks?

McCain was able to run right up the middle. Now that the field has narrowed, it is not implausible that Huckabee will win Texas, Ohio, and other important states.
If McCain isn’t conservative enough for many (and if we can put religious issues aside), why not consider Huckabee? Had Fred dropped one week earlier, Huckabee stood a good chance to win SC. Had Romney and Huckabee not split votes, Huckabee stood a good chance of winning Missouri.
If it does go to a brokered convention it will mean that Huckabee will have the clear momentum since he will have had to win 66ish % of the remaining delegates.
My main reason for pouring time into this effort is to take back the country to We the People. If we don’t my 2yo son and 3mo daughter will have a much tougher time of things. Freedom isn’t free though. We have to be active (like everyone here is) and we have to see things as clearly as possible (remove blinders). McCain supporters, please vote McCain. Everyone else owes it to themselves to take an honest look at both candidates to see how their stand on issues aligns with what they want for the future.
Mike Huckabee’s website is http://www.mikehuckabee.com.
Cheers,

As one of the TH posters who was extremely disturbed by the hate-filled Romney and Mormon bashing that goes on here. I've known and worked with many Mormons throughout my life and they have all been good, Christ-centered people. Without exception. It appealed to the lowest common denominators among us, which is what the GOP is left with.
I supported Romney because I felt he was the only candidate with a conservative core who could win this election. I stand by that assessment today. I respect Mitt's character and experience. I believe he represented the future of the GOP, which is now in question.
Huck's cheap shots at Mitt were unbecoming. It was also obvious he and McCain had formed some sort of alliance, which I will never quite understand. I credit Huck as a spoiler who will go down in history as having prevented the GOP from winning in '08. |

We are all Americans and most of us believe in some greater spirit than ourselves. While religious toleration is what we pride our country on, we all know that there is religious (racial, political, etc.) intolerances.
What worries me most is danger to our freedom, liberty, and pursuit of happiness/prosperity. I firmly believe that one unique individual can make things happen for us. I believe that two over on the dem side will royally screw things up and set us very far back.
On Huckabee, I don’t know what the other things that he specifically said are that cause a tremendous rift. The one comment and then apologies afterward are all that I specifically know of are mentioned in my post above. I am not aware of his personal anti-Mormon involvement at the Southern Baptists convention in Salt Lake City 10 years ago. If he was personally involved I would be hesitant about him as well. As a person who was “not there” and “of open mind” I have to wonder if religious clashes are as much misunderstanding or actions of the “few”. If Huckabee’s (specifically Huckabee’s) actions were unforgivable, please be true to yourself and keep the distance. If there is doubt about apparent ill-intent, perhaps be open to his stand on issue.

I have thought the same thing. Rudy and Fred did not seem to even be seriously pursuing the nomination. Their presence blocked conservatives from coalescing around one candidate, allowing McCain to run up the middle. It may not have been planned that way, but that's how it worked out. All to the delight of the cheap labor importers at the RNC. |
|
Oh where to start!
1) Huckabee is not a racist. I am not a big fan of him due to his tax hikes. But Romney being a Mormon was never an issue. Romney just sucked as a campaigner.
2) As for your love of Romney and calling him a conservative. Romney is hardly the conservative standard bearer. If anyone was the true conservative it was Thompson. Your conservative pushed Huckabee to hurt Romney and help Rudy arguement is more pathetic than Al Gore after he lost Florida in 2000.
3) As for your shot at Rudy. Save abortion and gay marriage, Rudy is straight down the board more conservative than Romney i.e. tax cuts, spending, the war on terror, etc. This is why many conservatives supported Rudy.
4) As for you crying "I am leaving the "racist party" nonsense - go right ahead. No true conservative would ever say that. Economically Obama or Hillary's plan would put this country in an immediate recession, they want to raise taxes and let all the Bush tax cuts expire. If you care about social issues Obama and Hillary are in favor of partial birth abortion, McCain has always been pro-life. McCain will veto pork spending bills, you can be certain Obama and Clinton would spend, spend and spend our tax dollars. And if you care about the war on terror you will realize Obama and Hillary want to pull out and let al Qaeda take over Iraq, McCain want to keep a presence there until the job is done.
I am so sick and tired of people like you claiming to be a Conservative Republican, yet do nothing other than bash McCain and threaten to either stay home or vote for Obama. McCain is a true conservative and will be an excellent President when elected in November.

You seem like a reasonable guy. Thanks for being open to listening. If it was just the one comment he had made, it would probably have been no big deal. |
|
I wonder if the actions of a few create a perception of the whole...
I did see some Mormon bashing online and it made me sad. I guess I always hope we are beyond that. I envision more focus on religion for myself, personally, at some time in the not-to-distant future. I grew up Catholic in Southern California & haven't been to church in years. I do have a very open mind & most religious folks I know are fine upstanding citizens.
I know that there are folks in any group who don't exactly represent the group in the best of ways. I personally believe that these folks need to simply be ignored.
I have been a political nut these past months & I frequent http://www.mikehuckabee.com. I don't get the sense that there is Mormon bashing going on there but I honestly just ignore any ignorant comment wherever I see it.
Outside of religion conflicts I still believe that Huckabee is in most alignment to what is important to me. Fair Tax, Strong National Security, Secure Borders, Smaller Gov’t.
Thanks for the dialog.

I never supported Romney, but did spend time defending him against the anti-mormons on this site.
I do my best not to smear other candidates, only to defend McCain from lies and attacks. Perhaps I have slipped a time or two when people got me a bit upset. I do not mean to offend.
I noticed a few weeks ago another Shannon on this blog. Can two people used the same handle here? Seems like that should not be allowed. |
|
I just didn't know. I don't subscribe to others imposing their beliefs on others. I do subscribe to a conversation about politics, etc. though.
Thanks again.

You should have been here for the last 6 months. The Mormon bashing was unbelievable. I'm a Methodist and have thought every Mormon I've ever met to be a fine upstanding citizen. There are many who believe otherwise. I was completely unaware of the deep-seated anti-Mormon bigotry that exists out there. It seems to be paricularly virulent among Southern Baptists. |
|
They took forever to rally around a candidate and this opened the door for McCain.
Rich Lowry from National Review said early on that Romney was the only viable conservative.
What happened is some of these conservatives like Hannity supported Rudy. So they pushed Huckabee in Iowa to muddy the waters for Rudy until Florida.
This is why Hannity and others didn't complain when McCain won NH.
The idea was Huckabee wins Iowa, McCain wins NH and maybe Thompson wins SC.
This would muddy the waters for Rudy in Florida. When Rudy tanked, they panicked. They should not have supported the LIBERAL Rudy in the first place.
This opened the door for McCain. |
|
I wrote this the other day regarding religion...
Huckabee made one comment about Mormons I don’t know if it was a cheap shot or not. It seemed innocent enough to me but, for the sake of argument… say it was mischievous or devious, or ill-willed. It was one comment followed almost immediately by an apology.
Consider the backdrop at the time the comment was made… Tens of millions of dollars of attack ads (contrast ads in Romney-speak) were flooding the airwaves on what? Is Huck really soft on crime considering that he gave the green light on 16 executions? Is Huck really “Tax Hike Mike” just because Arkansas tax receipts increased while he was governor? Inflation, higher employment, and getting people off welfare have something to do with increase of state tax receipts as well don’t they? My point here is that candidates spin things to craft a perception. Certainly, tens of millions of dollars of “contrast ads” vs. none coming from Huckabee (okay, one that was pulled) will have an effect on voters perceptions right?
Think about this… If the “contrast ads” weren’t run, Romney might have fared better:
1. Personally, they just made me mad at Romney. 2. He would have had more campaign dollars to spend on a positive message 3. He might have had campaign dollars to continue the race.
Look, I am not attacking here. These are just observations.
Now, I do believe that anything… “anything” is possible in a brokered convention. We need to get it there folks.
Peace.

Speaking in Utah (or anywhere else) is not a problem. The forum he chose is the problem. This convention was anti-Mormon as much as it was pro-Baptist. I respect people who want to share their religious beliefs. I spent 2 years doing it full time, but when I did it it was with a positive message. I never went to a door to tell people that their religious leaders were liars, or that their beliefs were satanic. That was the gist of the conference; that Mormon beliefs are evil and that Mormons are deceived. Much of the crap that is out there is pure fiction.
It was probably the equivalent of having a conference on ministering to Jews and handing out copies of "Protocals of the Elders of Zion" in Jerusalem. |

"After a generally conservative career, the John McCain who emerged in the 107th Senate really was a moderate Republican. According to the Poole-Rosenthal "optimal classification" algorithm, only Lincoln Chaffee, Arlen Specter, Olympia Snowe, and Susan Collins were less conservative among members of the GOP caucuses. But by the 108th Senate he'd decided not to run for Vice President on John Kerry's ticket, George W. Bush had been re-elected, and McCain decided to shift back far right en route to the nomination. Suddenly only Don Nickles, Jeff Sessions, and Jon Kyl were more conservative than McCain. And in the 109th Senate, only Kyl has been more conservative."

The party is scared of change and it's sad.
Hambone, you took the word right out of my mouth.
Huckabee used religion as a wedge issue in a nast way. As a Christian myself, I thought Huckabee's whole attitude was sad.
The only reason the MSM pushed him because they wanted to stop Romney in Iowa.
Huckabee is envious of Romney's wealth. The nasty thing he said about his sons and the trust fund showed this.
I think Huckabee will be seen as a spoiler when McCain loses badly to Obama.
McCain and Huckabee's name will be mud after this HUGE loss to Obama.
Maybe some in the G.O.P. will come out of the cave and learn to accept people who are different. |
|
Aren't you the Shannon who continually bashed Romney?
I guess it's your turn now. |
|
|
I have been avoiding buying products made in China for years. Unfortunately many unions here are supporting amnesty as they see the illegal aliens as potential new members. |
|
Okay. If I haven't mentioned... religion is not a big part of my life personally though I completely respect others and their choice to make it part of their life (so long as there is no facism-extremist terrorist activities).
So what I am hearing is that it wasn't okay for Huckabee to give a key-note speech in Utah??? Did he say something to offend Mormons? Are people of diffent faiths suppose to keep to specific areas or regions? I thought most faiths welcomed/invited new members in order to spread the word. Mormon are worldwide, right? Are Southern Baptists? I just don't know.
Thanks,
YK |

The ONLY way John McCain can "reach out" to this conservative is by EARNING my vote NOW by enacting conservative solutions to the problems that are most important to me: border security, amnesty, Social Security, wasteful spending, tax cuts.
I'm not holding my breath. |
|
Virginia Patriot:
Which gets me back to my original point: support the unionization of jobs that illegal immigrants take. Since you already agree its gonna get done by attrition anyway, if you unionize those jobs you 1) take away the incentive to hire illegals because the cost savings are no longer there 2) drive illegals back to where they came from because there is no longer an incentive (e.g. employment) to come here and 3) get an added benefit of increasing employment among Americans and increasing wages. Of course, if you are a strict supply/demand type person, you object to artifical increases in the labor cost component of products. But, since we really can't compete with China on that price element anyway (no slave labor here) -- but that is another argument for another day. So look for, that union lable, when you are buying, blah, blah, blah...............................(if you are older than 40, you know the rest of the words). |
|
McCain will make efforts over the coming weeks to reach out to conservatives. There won't be a brokered convention. There are 1037 delegates left to be awarded and Huckabee would need 651 to force a brokered convention (63%). This weekend including Tuesday he won 28% of the delegates. Overall, he has won 18% of the delegates. Even if Romney endorsed Huckabee, he would still only have 39%. Huckabee may have majored in miracles, but I believe God helps those who help themselves. Huckabee hasn't tried to reach anyone other than his Evangelical base. So what has played out (even in a two man race) is that Huckabee still hasn't received support outside of the South.
I find it interesting that in December the MSM were talking about the Republicans going to convention and that being a bad thing while the Democrats would have their nominee by Super Tuesday. My how tables have turned.

I have my problems with him like most conservatives, but some of you Huck supporters are just being silly. McCain has a near perfect record on supporting Life. He may not be as pure of a supporter as you, but he's no Obama who would allow abortion surviving babies to be killed. And the stem cell issue is pretty much a moot point with the recent developments with skin cells being converted to stem cells. There are big differences between McCain and the socialists on the other side. If the Dems get in they could do damage that will never be undone. Nothing lasts longer than a temporary government program, and leftists on the Supreme Court could really do damage to issues of life and family. |
|
Why do we say Huck is a bigot? That's an easy one. He was the keynote speaker at the 1998 Baptist convention in Salt Lake City targeted to "reach out" (read: bash) to Mormons. They he brought the religion issue into his single digit campaign as a way to differentiate himself (the Christian leader) from Romney.
If Huck is on the ticket, the Republicans may not be able to count on UT - normally the most reliably Republican state in the country. |
|
THIS is what the GOP has come to?
If good men like Harry are leaving, I am not far behind.
The party abandoned US, not the other way around. |
|
Why do you feel Huckabee is a biggot?
If you would elaborate I would really like to understand. You see, my theory is that MSM created that perception but I am very interested supporting evidence that others have.
Thanks,
Yt_Knight |

George W. Bush was attacked by the MSM worse than anyone I have seen since Dan Quayle and was still re-elected. Yes the liberals might like Obama, but wait until the moderates learn about his liberal voting record. Other than the Clinton's effort to play the race card, I have yet to see one negative story or attack ad aimed at Obama. The fact that McCain trails Obama by the slimmest of margins despite all the positive press Obama has receives, shows that he will defeat Obama in November.
And if you are worried about the conservative base staying home, just wait until America learns that in Illinois voted against protecting babies that survived an attempted abortion. And when most evangelicals realize there will be several Supreme Court retirements in the next four years every Evangelical will flock to McCain.
|
|
Face it, the MSM picked McCain and he's the perfect contrast candidate for Obama. Romney would have been perfect for the G.O.P. because he's not tied to Washington and in a change election he would have been perfect. The democrats are ready for change and the republicans still have BIGOTS like Huckabee in the race and party.
As an African American new to the republican party, I have already left the republican party. This party is stuck in the cave of fear and scared of change. The way they did Romney and his religion is the same way rascist would do when it comes to color. I will vote Obama and support Romney in 2012 if he runs, maybe the BIGOTS will be cleared out. |
|
You know, I think we all buy in very early in the game & it takes a tremendous slap upside the head in order to consider another candidate. I know that is how it was for me… I first heard about Huckabee in September (never heard of him before). I heard him speak & started nodding my head. I don’t go to church. Religious alignment was not important to me. What is important is proven leadership and not being beholden to Washington/Wall Street power brokers. Again, I am convinced that of the remaining candidates, Huckabee and Paul are the only candidates who represent “We the People”.
Shannon indicated that her big thing is War on Terror. Great. She should vote McCain. Again, I don’t believe that Petraeus (or any other top-notch advisor) will evaporate if Huckabee becomes the nominee. I do believe that Huckabee and Paul are the only candidates who are on record for signing the NumbersUSA pledge to oppose amnesty. Why won’t McCain sign this pledge? Please google “NumbersUSA Huckabee” for more info.
More of my two cents.
Peace,

This is entirely different. There wasn't a lot of substance behind the attacks on GWB, and there was no excitement for John F. Kerry (I think he served in Vietnam...maybe even went to Cambodia one Christmas.) McCain's gonna think his genitals are in a blender.
The Dems don't/won't care about Obambi's liberal record. They like the guy...that's all that matters to them.
Defeat McCain!

"It's time to elect someone [McCain] who wants to actually solve some of these problems and not play political football with them."
NEWSFLASH:
John "Maverick" McCain has been in Washington, D.C. for over 25 years!
He has had COUNTLESS opportunities to "actually solve some of these problems and not play political football with them". Has he solved ANYTHING during his 25 years in Congress? No.
McCain has not accomplished anything with regard to illegal immigration, and he comes from a border state that has been hemorraging cash for DECADES because of illegal immigration. If he doesn't listen to his own home state constituents, what makes you think he is going to listen to you?
McCain has not accomplished anything with regard to out-of-control spending. Talk is cheap. |
|
You are correct. Shannon is entitled to her opinion and I respect that 100%. But Shannon is not entitled to expect the rest of us to simply hop aboard the McCain bandwagon, particularly since it increasingly looks to be a losing proposition. And Shannon is not entitled to accuse other posters of having hidden "agendas" or being "paid" for their views.
With regard to Huck, he lost me when he made religion a divisive issue. He didn't need to go there and lost all credibility when he did. Compared to McCain, Huck is the lesser of two evils. But I am done with supporting the "lesser of two evils". From now on, I vote my conscience.
As far as personal attacks go, Shannon seems to always draw first blood. Go back and read her posts. |
|
I think all this talk about constitutional amendments is pandering. No one really believes these things will pass. Some of them are actually unconstitutional.
As for the war on terror, I don't think Huck has a clue. McCain is the man to deal with this issue, and it is the biggest issue.
As for the economy, I think McCain will bring in many scholars to get a handle on the budget and all this uncontrolled spending.
Its time to elect someone who wants to actually solve some of these problems and not play political football with them. |
|
You are a funny guy. I don't wish to sway anyone, I guess I just come here for the warm companionship. It's hard being a housewife.
Who was I before I was Shannon? What a deep question, let me ask my ouiji board...nope nothing there. Always been called Shannon, mom called me Dia, does that count? |
|
I support Huckabee but I respect others' opinions. Everyone has a right to theirs. It would be nice if the personal attacks ceased & folks kept to the issues.
Peace,
Yt_Knight
P.S. Still waiting for a reply to my post above (What is the issue with Huckabee?) |

Hey, after we're done smearing John McCain and Shannon here on Townhall, why don't we all meet in the lunchroom behind our cubicles for a bite to eat. After that, we can all walk down to the bank and cash our checks from George Soros. Then we'll drop by the Obama '08 headquarters and get our marching orders for the afternoon. Of course, keep this all on the down-low. We don't want Shannon or the other McCain supporters to know we are really liberal double agents pretending to be conservatives. Phil, you bring your copy of "The Audacity of Hope" and we'll have a little study session before we head out. The password to get in the lunchroom door is "third party conservative."
See you both there.

I have a blog. Who are YOU? And who were you before you were Shannon? Your strategy and tactics are as old as the hills and don't sway anyone. We love to poke you animals with sticks just to get you going. I guess now you are showing your hand! Just what is this "Shannon" person REALLY up to? |

I knew you guys would spin my views, no matter how many times I said they were mine alone. All of my views DO NOT MIRROR MCCAINS. But you already know that.
I am not attacking anyone, just making observations and wondering about motivations.
I have never claimed to be any kind of conservative. Especially if the conservatives here are representative of how conservatives think and act. Not a very flattering view.
McCain will have a tough fight with Obama, but I believe that people will see in the debates that Obamas serious lack of knowledge and experience disqualifies him. |

We are "FISCAL" conservatives which includes the security of this nation: FROM all enemies FOREIGN and DOMESTIC, enemies to our economy, our culture, our personal safety:
SO:::: YOU single agenda Pubbies:
AFTER Reagan Bush I Bush II
WE still have the slaughter of victims at birth
GOD and COUNTRY have been driven from the Public square
We now have to speak SPANISH to get a JOB
We now teach SPANISH NOT English in the schools THE SCHOOLS pass out birth control pills to 11 years olds, teach 2 mommies, gay marriage, how to in the back of the bus instead of reading, science, personal responsibility, decency, respect, right from wrong and manners:
OUR military has been abused and abused and driven out of the public square, off of every campus in the USA
EVERY ONE gets a BLUE RIBBON, even if they fail to make an effort:
EVERY kid is Obese, on meds, inactive, addicted to the computer, lazy and crass.
All free speech is a HATE CRIME
Banned, sledding, dodge ball, the boy scouts, trans fats, smoking except for POT, prayer, religious holidays, Merry Christmas, In Oregon they now lock up spray paint, not the criminals:
McCain helped us get here over his 25 years of being that all powerful Senator:

give me a Break:
with McCains help: the state of our Union is bleak: and he is still back fighting the Vietnam war: replaying his POW PITY PARTY:
What does he have to OFFER THE FUTURE GENERATION
50 million illegals sucking our treasury dry obscene energy taxes blow up Iran, Syria, Russia, China, N Korea ??
the surge worked: NO NEED FOR McCain Obama beat Hillary; NO need for McCain

Feeling paranoid, Shannon? You keep attacking people here, insinuating we have a hidden agendas or are paid posters simply because we REFUSE to fall in-line behind John McCain.
You, yourself, just ADMITTED above that you are NOT a social conservative. I am fine with that. You can have John McCain because he mirrors your views.
Why should I NOT want a candidate who mirrors my views? That is my right.
Face the facts: John McCain cannot beat Obama. If you think he can, you are too deluded to be helped.
Rather than vote for Hillary or Obama, I am going to vote for the first VIABLE conservative who steps to the plate. I was a conservative LONG before I ever joined the GOP and I will remain a conservative with or without the GOP.
Your boy McCain is clearly going to be the Republican nominee. You should be dancing in the streets. But, instead, you come here each day to attack those who refuse to celebrate the pending death of the GOP. |

I'm a pony? Take your meds Phil.

No War on Terror experience…? Is Petraeus going to evaporate if Huckabee is the nominee? Doesn’t Huckabee support building our military strength? Economy? Didn’t he inherit a huge deficit and turn it into a surplus in 10.5 years? Doesn’t he support the Fair Tax which will put the USA on more competitive footing globally? Doesn’t he want to improve USA infrastructure and create jobs vs. just give $150billion in hand-outs? Amendments? Doesn’t congress have to provide majority support to amend the constitution?
I don’t think McCain is a bad man but I do know this. I like the idea of a complete outsider going in to clean things up. McCain is no outsider. Huckabee is not beholden to anyone but “We the People”. He has character, integrity, the gift of communication (as good or better than Obama), he is quick on his feet, intelligent, and a straight shooter. No wonder Washington and Wall Street power brokers are nervous. Huckabee threatens to have the audacity to serve the people instead of their greedy interests.
Folks, it seems more and more clear to me that we are going to either fix this from the inside via the amazing gift of a true democratic society that our founding fathers provided or we are going to let it all deteriorate until we are slaves to the new world order. Our freedom and liberty is seriously at risk. We have a chance to save ourselves if we just pull our heads out of the sand.
Peace,

those 33% of Democrats who crossed over and gave us McCain

Romney
DO NOT JOIN THE MCCAIN TICKET:
Dust off, go make a few hundred million on corporate Turnarounds if you dont' want the $$$ do it for Charity, our vets or some other good cause:
DO NOT GO DOWN IN FLAMES WITH liberal loser McCain:
THOSE Dems who gave us McCain are going to switch back and vote for OBAMA

Actively, consistently, continuously enforcing existing laws will send the message that we are serious about our laws. Changing them to accomodate people breaking them sends the opposite message. And not just to those already here. Millions are waiting to see which tack we take. Amnesty will set off a stampede like we have not seen before. Enforcement will start the flow in the other direction as the jobs and benefits dry up. Those pushing for amnesty are for surrendering to the demands of the illegal aliens AND their employers, abandoning the rule of law and surrendering our sovereignty. We should not change the laws to suit those breaking them.
If we want to keep our country.
|
|
And I'm way too young to blame it on menopause!
The GOP really screwed itself, thanks to Republicans who have completely abandoned conservative principles. This is what you get when you try to be all things to all people.
The GOP has always been home to conservatives, but it now appears our party has abandoned us. If conservatives are now the minority in the GOP, it is no longer the place for me. I'll gladly take my money, my support, and my "right-wing" views somewhere else.
Adios, suckaz! |
|
John is trying so hard to now tell the republican base what he thinks we want to hear that it has become comical. Most of us don't believe a word he says. We know his record and what he has said in the past. His most recent view of terrorist trials is a 180 degree departure to what he has been saying for the last few years. He wanted to close Gitmo and stated that terrorists deserved to be tried by the same rules as American citizens.
You deserve 6 Pinnochios for this one John. |
|
well Now we know what caused the Romney McCain fall out
Back in 1999: HATE SUCCESS: HATE Corporate America McCain screamed and yelled, his psycho hysterical unfounded hype and tried to BLOCK ROMNEY's efforts to save the olympics: and bring pride and success to America
and in the end ROMNEY was right and McCain was wrong again: |
|
|
Find a viable 3rd party candidate? What is your agenda? You are always saying that there is no way we can win, and what a strong candidate Obama is, now we should split the party? You are showing your hand... |
|
If George W. Bush was able to get re-elected after non-stop abuse from the MSM since he announced his candidacy back in 1999, I am sure McCain will be handle them just fine.
Also, you are entirely forgetting the lack of information that the average Joe knows about Obama. Just wait until America learns he is the most liberal member of the senate and in Illinois voted against protecting babies that survived an attempted abortion.
|
|
We beg Romney not to say YES to Mccain and join that liberal loser
KEEP your MITTS CLEAN:
McCain is going down in smoke and Romney should not be on that ticket: PERIOD
the GOP deserves a rout, a landslide loss to shake up and shake it free from the lairs, cheaters, bigots, corrupt "ESTABLISHMENT"
ROMNEY does not need to tarnish his good name:
Romney should go make a few hundred million by boosting more CORPORATE AMERICA |
|
So you're saying it's going to be close, so we should just surrender and give the White House to the Dems? Perhaps I misread my fellow conservatives, but I'm pretty sure we are not a group of people who will surrender just because the fight will be tough. Excuse my language, but that sounds more like a liberal idea to me.
If McCain does and says the right things ('does' being more important), conservatives need to give him a chance. The cut and runners (like what you're describing) in my book certainly are not true conservatives if they would surrender this country to the liberals. |
|
|
thanks for backing me up. nice to see that there is a McCain camp out there. |
|
a shock and awe campaign against McCain. I'm laughing as I'm typing this thinking of how bad McCain will get beat. And he deserves every bit of it.
Defeat McCain! |
|
This bears repeating:
"They are saying that the polls show Barrack at 58% against John McCain. We may see that climb to 67% by November. I just saw a poll where 5% of Conservatives will vote Democratic in November. 20% will sit out. That is 25% of 2004 voters that will not vote for McCain." (by cyaaycc)
Republican BARELY won the popular and electoral votes in 2004... against Jon F'n Cary for cripes sake! The libs learned their lesson and aren't taking anything for granted this year. McCain doesn't stand a chance. The GOP is going to lose BIG TIME.
It is time to find a VIABLE 3rd party candidate. We may not win, but we can still send a clear message to the GOP and libs that conservatives will not go quietly into the night!
|
|
good grief, eddie, you really got your self into a frenzy. Poop takes priority in my house, yes I said house, this is not a McCain camp. But I am wearing a McCain t-shirt today, does that make it a camp?
Like I said before those were my views, I don't know if they are McCains personal views. I do not speak for anyone other than myself.
And as far as the abortion issue goes, we should just agree to disagree. Because your passionate belief that life begins at conception is just as passionate as mine in that the soul does not enter the fetus until much later. Like I said these are my views, so don't spin this and say they are McCain's.
I feel confident in supporting McCain because he believes in states rights to decide issues on morality. |
|
|
I see that you and you butt buddy Brian are back at with the Soros nonsense today! And since you guys are trying to slam McCain, AGAIN, I once again have to explain that your Soros argument is plain dumb! George Soros is a hedge fund manager, who gave money to John McCain back in 1999. I hate George Soros as much as anyone possibly can. However, since I work on Wall Street, I know that hedge fund managers usually contribute to both parties. That way they have access to Washington no matter what party is in power. Paul Singer who runs Elliot and Associates is a big time conservative, but even he has written checks for democratic candidates. You argument is quite naive. Soros even gave money to George H. W. Bush. |
|
That Huckabee IS WORSE than McCain for most of us. He's clueless in the WOT and economy. He' lies, and has only meaningless platitudes. There is no depth or substance with him.
And you don't realize that McCain is pro-life enough for most people. |
|
Virginia Patriot:
It will take more than fence, however. Immigration reform will not be accomplished by merely building a fence. Yes, stopping the inflow will help, but as long as we have jobs and Mexico doesn't then illegal immigrants will find a way. Its time we looked beyond the border and demand that Mexico make significant economic and political reform. The biggest lie ever told by the current president was that Vincente Fox was his friend. No, Mr. President, the correct statement is that you were Vincente Fox's enabler. However, since 25% of Mexico's current economy is predicated on money sent home from illegals in the United States, cutting that source off will only worsen the economic situation in Mexico, creating more chaos and increasing its economic decline. We didn't get to this point overnight, and putting up a fence overnight isn't going to solve the problem. |
|
|
So how is this whole Global Warming agenda of McCain going to exactly work? How is he going to unite the Republican Party when he is debating Obama on issues regarding immigration, Global Warming and Waterboarding? Wont he alienate the base when he is agreeing with Obama on all of these issues? Sure the Iraq War won over moderate republicans, however, if you think he is going to win anti-war independents he is sorely mistaken. They are saying that the polls show Barrack at 58% against John McCain. We may see that climb to 67% by November. I just saw a poll where 5% of Conservatives will vote Democratic in November. 20% will sit out. That is 25% of 2004 voters that will not vote for McCain. |

2. Human Life Amendment and Marriage Amendment: On this topic, I am behind McCain 100%. I am not a fan of the federal government legislating these areas, even if I am staunchly pro-life and anti-gay marriage. One of the greatest principles of the Republican Party is the belief in federalism, whereas power should be delegated to the states whenever possible. In this case, I believe these issues should be settled in the states, not by the federal government. However, McCain (and myself) believes that Roe v. Wade should be overturned, and he has pledged to nominate justices who will do so. He also has publicly stated that he is not in favor or gay marriage, and will certainly be sure to keep the sactity on marriage between a man and a woman.
3. Fair Tax: Rumor has it that McCain is very much interested in learning all he can about this (flash back to the second to last debate, where he specifically asked Huckabee about it and its benefits). Now whether that means that he would impliment or not, no one can say. But he has proposed similar tax reforsm to the plan that Giuliani's campaign came up with, that should simplify the tax code regardless.
Again, you and I both have differences with McCain, but I do hope in the end that you put your country ahead of those differences. All of those problems you have with McCain will be magnified by 1000 if we allow Clinton or Obama to win in November. |
|
Since Shannon seems busy, let me give my take on some of those issues you propose.
1. Embryonic Stem-cell Research: This is an area that I disagree with on McCain. I honestly believe (and it has been speculated in news articles) that McCain supports this science because of his allegiance to the Reagans, who support it as a method of finding a cure for Alzheimer's. Even though I think he is wrong right now, I am encouraged by some of the avid pro-life advisors that he has around him, namely Sam Brownback. Quoting Brownback from an article from a couple of weeks back, he claims that he and others have made headway with McCain on thos issue, and that he is hopeful that their influence, coupled with breakthroughs in stem-cell research without using embryos, will change his mind.

Shannon said:
"I do not want any constitutional amendments legislating morality or marriage. I support stem cell research, and don't you dare touch my right to make decisions over my own body. I have no problem waiting 10 days to purchase a gun. I greatly admire McCains ability to reach across the isle to get problems solved. I believe he will secure the border, and then find a reasonable way to deal with those already here."
Just curious. Is this how most/many McCain supporters feel? |
|
I am not talking about your body. I am talking about the bodies of the little pre-born human beings that are killed by abortions.
I think you have answered the questions just as McCain will or has.
Too bad, these are the most important issues of the Republican right. I do not think total rejection of them will unite the Party. That is the point.
As I said before, the Republican left would rather lose than support a conservative Christian. You have made my point well.
This attitude of the Republican left is just begging for a conservative third party run.
Based on the campaign so far, I am forced to conclude that McCain is not smart enough to be POTUS. |
|
engage the Republican right? I am guessing it is because he has no intention of compromising with them on any of their issues.
McCain did not finish fifth from the bottom of his Annapolis clss for nothing. He must have some strange reasoning process that tells him he can win without the Republican right. Good luck with that John!!! |
|
I appreciate your loyalty to McCain, but I think it is blinding you to reality. He is a very flawed candidate. That is why he has a major uphill fight to win in November. |
|
OK, so now you say that you are a Huck volunteer. We can stick with that, although I don't believe it.
I cannot speak for McCain, I do my best to defend him, but my words are mine alone.
I do not want any constitutional amendments legislating morality or marriage. I support stem cell research, and don't you dare touch my right to make decisions over my own body. I have no problem waiting 10 days to purchase a gun. I greatly admire McCains ability to reach across the isle to get problems solved. I believe he will secure the border, and then find a reasonable way to deal with those already here. Were there any more questions, because baby has a diaper that needs to be changed. |
|
are you saying the article Virginia Patriot referred you to is false.
McCain did not found an organization that received major support from Soros? Show me the evidence!!! |
|
maybe I am not within your definition of normal folks. But, I do not receive my talking points from anyone.
You are failing to see the forest for the trees. If McCain's candidacy and credibility are damaged by my attacks, what does that bode for McCain when the Dems bring the big guns. I am a no one and you think I am hurting his candidacy.
I am pointing out major problems McCain has with the Republican right. How do you energize people that you have major disagrements with?
Based on McCain and his supporters (people like you Shannon), he either has no answers or he could care less about what people like me think. I do not find that very motivating. |
|
JUAN HERNANDEZ TELL US YOUR HEARING IS BAD.
ILLEGAL ALIENS ARE TO IMMIGRANTS AS HOME INVADERS ARE TO HOUSE GUESTS. |
|
my being against embronic stem-cell research that is supported by McCain?
Or would it be my support for a Human Life constitutional amendment, that is opposed by McCain?
Or maybe the single issue you are referring to is my support for a marriage protection amendment to the U.S. Constitution, that is opposed by McCain.
Could that single issue be my support for eliminating the IRS, an issue opposed by McCain?
Maybe the single issue you have identified is my disdain for McCain-Feingold, whereby John McCain was able to pass unconstitutional restrictions on the free speech rights of Americans.
Possible, the single issue you saw me informing voters about was McCain's desire to outlaw gunshows.
Shannon, his taking money from Soros just increases my doubts about where McCain will lead America. As far as I have been able to discern, John McCain is for sale to the highest bidder. How can I say that? Take a look at the Keating Five and add to that taking money from Soros and having to withdraw from his position in his non-profit because he was discovered trying to pass a law that would benefit one of his financial supporters.
I understand that you are busy. But maybe you could get help from someone else in the McCain camp to answer my questions and explain McCain's efforts. |
|
|
What the heck to they think getting a half unified party is going to accomplish you could add Jesus Christ to the McCain ticket it does not matter we vote for president not the VP |
|
|
like I said yesterday. I read the article, thanks for the info. Its all in the perception. I read a very slanted and agenda driven article that was meant to smear McCain. |
|
See, eddie, normal folks just do not have all of those talking points memorized. Do you have some kind of prepared statements ready before you log on or something. Does your boss pass them out at the morning meeting?
|
|
Since I am not a pro blogger and my time is limited due to family responsibilities, I will not be researching the Soros - McCain connection any further. The research I have already done will suffice, there is no connection, other than the money donated to an Institute years ago.
My assertions have been made by observing your posts. You spinners on this blog always end up showing your hand eventually. It's the single issue that you keep ranting about that is telling of your motives. |
|
in case you are wondering to what questions I am referring, here they are:
How can pro-life, pro-marriage and pro-family Republicans vote for John McCain?
How does his policy on embryonic stem-cell research differ from Hillary Clinton's and Barack Obama's?
How does his policy on a constitutional amendment to protect marriage differ from Clinton's and Obama's?
How does his policy on a Human Life constitutional amendment differ from Clinton's and Obama's?
How does his policy on supporting the unfair, economy depressing, federal income tax differ from Clinton's or Obama's?
How does his policy on immigration differ from Clinton's and Obama's?
How does his policy on the myth of man-made global warming differ from Clinton's and Obama's?
How does his policy on outlawing gun shows differ from Clinton's or Obama's?
How does his desire to eliminate free political discourse differ from Clinton's and Obama's? Hmmm, on second thought, maybe Clinton and Obama's positions on eliminating free political discourse are not as negative and draconian as John McCain's?
What does that leave where he might differ from the Dems? Well he wants to win the battle for Iraq. That is a significant difference that Clinton or Obama will rapidly eliminate and co-opt by pledging to win the battle for Iraq.
|
|
if McCain cannot respond to or withstand attacks from a Huckabee volunteer, how will he be able to handle professional attacks from the Dems?
Get with it Shannon, we must put McCain under the microscope now if he is to have chance in November.
However, I make no secrets about my belief that America is far better off with a President Huckabee than with anyone else in the office.
Shannon, why won't, or is it that you can't, you or John McCain answer the questions? |
|
McCain on Soros payroll, not eddie

another unsupported assertion. Where is your proof? I am sure you have noticed that I can back up what I put in my posts.
Who do you think readers should believe? Should they believe someone like you who makes unsupported assertions, often better characterized as imaginary ramblings; or, should they believe someone like me who only puts this campaign and its issues out into the open and the light of day.
When are you going to show that John McCain has not benefited from George Soros' support?
C'mon Shannon, surely you can come up with some facts or sources that support your assertions.
I am paid by no one. I am here only to serve the truth. |

If Bush had secured the border on September 12, 2001 and actually enforced employer sanctions vigorously and consistently since then, we'd be talking about a much smaller problem and many more would be willing to listen to some kind of compromise. It is the complete lack of enforcement that has doubled this problem in the last six years that exposes the deceitful attempt at forcing us into another amnesty by flooding the country with illegal aliens. The cynical way we are told we will not get border security until we give them a guestworker program is sickening. We won't be fooled again. We remember 1986. No amnesty/regularization/guestworker until we see ACTUAL fences and ACTUAL enforcement. Let's try that for a few years, then we'll talk. |
|
I believe that he'll seal the border. He seems genuine on that point. I just worry about what he considers 'sealed' and what he plans to do after that (see z visas).
If you want the rule of law followed, McCain is sadly our best shot at this point. You should listen and be frightened by the other side's proposals. Time to rally, even half heartedly. Obama with a friendly congress would make the border situation worse (hard to imagine.). |

1. To continue to talk with Bloggers and Talk Radio people. The more he discusses, respectfully the ideas from the right the more he will be respected as an idea person and not just beholdin to the NYT
2. Justify his positions. He cannot win the Charisma race with Obama. He had better have a good hold on the ideas.
3. Disagree with style and not anger. Put a lid on the temper
4. Pick a Charismatic Vp who is socially and econmically conservative. Huck will NOT do. |

Oh, eddie is back!!!
Back to stir the pot, eddie. Back to sing your Soros song. Back to preach to all of us.
At first I thought you worked for an organization that supports Huck. But, now I think I have figured it out. YOU work for moveon.org, YOU are funded by Soros. You know this will stir up the conservatives. You come to this blog and play like some self rightous holy man, out to tell the truth. You preach to get us to believe that you are a conservative, and then you spin your lies.
Eddie is funded by Soros... |

Any amnesty is surrender, not only to the demands of citizens of other countries illegally in our country, but also to those who have been encouraging them to break our laws. Corporations have been paying off our politicians to subvert enforcement of existing laws since they were passed in 1986. We won't be bamboozled again. The jig is up. We know this is not about immigration, it is about importing cheap labor. ENFORCE THE LAW NOW. SECURE THE BORDER NOW. Maybe after 20 years of action, to make up for the 20 years of inaction we've had, we can talk about immigration reform.
|
|
Virginia Patriot:
Thanks once again for your daily rant about the fence and illegal immigration. Sadly, I never ever see you demanding one between the United States and Canada. What, Al-Queda can't find the northern border. And I never ever see you ranting about all the employers that hire illegal. If you really want to stop illegal immigration (e.g., people coming here merely to get a job to support themselves) then step up and support the union movement in this country. Once those low paying jobs go union, then Americans will gladly step in and fill them and the demand for cheap, illegal labor disappears. Demand that some of the largest employers of illegal, like Wal-Mart, allow their workers to organize. However, once that happens, please do not complain about higher costs.
Yeah, John McCain hasn't built the fence. But neither has the one person with the legal authority and money to do so: President George W. Bush. But, dealing with reality is hard: scapegoating is easy. So, climb off the "I hate John McCain (oh, my bad, JUAN McCAIN) bandwagon" and climb on the "Impeach George Bush" bandwagon. Maybe Dick Cheney can build your fence.
|
|
rather lose than vote for a Christian conservative. I am afraid they are going to get their way. They are going to lose.
|
|
I agree with Phil. If McCain wants my vote, he can start NOW by doing the things the good people of Arizona re-elected him to do in the Senate:
1) SEAL the border, by whatever means necessary.
2) Send illegals packing.
3) Punish employers who knowingly hire illegals.
4) End auto-citizenship to illegal alien children born in the U.S.
5) Make the Bush tax cuts permanent.
6) Fix Social Security now.
7) End ALL wasteful spending.
8) Stop "reaching across the aisle".
Of course, these are ALL things McCain should have been working on during the last 25 years. But criticizing the Bush Admin; sucking up to liberals; and inhibiting free speech all took precedent.
Johnny, if you are serious about earning my vote, start doing your job! |
|
establishment's support for McCain comes mostly from their fear of the Fair Tax. The federal income tax system is the way that Congressmen and women reward their supporters. There are 60,000 pages of income tax law because the Congress writes tax laws to pay back the people who funded their candidacies. Without the income tax system, congressional candidates have far less hidden ways to reward their supporters.
Remember John McCain is an expert at rewarding his supporters. What do you think the Keating Five was all about? |
|
Matt Lewis,
If you really want to improve on your reputation for being sneaky, you should stop editing your posts after people have already commented on them.
If you have an addendum to make, you should be transparent and highlight it as an "edit" or an "update." |
|
A physical fence the length of the U.S. Mexican border could easily be erected before November.
The American people want it built. John McCain and his cronies do not want it built.
Face it folks, Mike Huckabee is the only one we have left to stop McCain. Pray for him, work for him, unite with him to make America great again.
The Soros led internationalists, Clinton, Obama and McCain do not want America to be great. A great America will stop the internationalists plan to place all power in the hands of the elite. |
|
Sen. McCain, you have my support, you will have my vote, and I have already sent you a check. Thank you for your continued service to this country. You have continually complemented you Republican opposition - a dignified position; you have always stood up for what you believe in - thank goodness; you are a patriot, and a thinker - you belong in our highest office. I cannot see anyone else more qualified or more deserving. Go John Go!!!! |
|
George Soros, the same guy who has been giving John McCain money since 2001?
We already know that Soros would be happy with Clinton, Obama or McCain. |
|
|
As a sitting senator and supposed leader of the party, introduce a bill to get the border fence built to specification BEFORE NOVEMBER. It's not complicated. We don't believe ANYTHING McCain says. It would also be a great help if he offered a contrite apology for calling us bigots and extremists. Convince us. No empty talk. Won't happen. We know McCain. He's an ego-driven opportunist. He cannot win in November. |
|
|
Is if he chooses Romney, Mike Pence, or another staunch economic conservative as his VP. |
|
blue in the face. I don't believe anything he says; God help those that do.
Defeat McCain! |
|
Smiling Juan Hernandez In case you don't know him, he used to work for the Mexican govt., lately he has been shilling for "rights" for illegal aliens in this country. He has said he wants Mexicans to remain Mexicans even if they are living here. His loyalties are to Mexico, not U.S.
Questions for illegal alien apologists like John McCain:
Why does The National Council of the Race (la raza in spanish) and the Chamber of Commerce get to negotiate a "Comprehensive Shafting of The American Citizens" behind closed doors? Since when does an organization representing foreign nationals breaking our laws get to rewrite our immigration laws to suit the lawbreakers? Isn't this akin to allowing NAMBLA to rewrite our laws regarding child predators? Or allowing organized crime syndicates to rewrite racketeering, gambling, prostitution, and extortion laws?
We The People are being told by our representatives that we should sit down and shut up while they invite in the entire world. We The People should get some say in this matter. Another amnesty will set off a stampede like we have never seen before. There is not much time to save our country. All the money and power are on the side of shoving this amnesty down our throats. The RNC wants an amnesty candidate, don't vote for one. |
|
You simply CANNOT have national security if you will not defend your own borders or enforce your own laws. Foreign nationals numbering in the thousands are entering our country at will daily. John McCain has done and will do NOTHING to stop it. Don't believe me? Ask Juan Hernandez!
