McCain's Mistake
Posted by: Michael Medved at 5:27 PM

When John McCain announced his candidacy on TV, critics focused on his statement that America had “wasted” the lives of our fallen heroes in Iraq. The Senator has already apologized for these remarks, but a bigger mistake involved his decision to launch his campaign on the David Letterman Show. The upcoming election involves fateful choices – the most significant race since 1980. McCain is a serious statesman who courageously, consistently stood up against Islamo-Nazi terror, Congressional corruption, run-away entitlements, and wasteful federal spending. Why, then, choose to begin a campaign about values and national survival with an appearance on a silly, late-night comedy show? His decision looks especially misguided when combined with his refusal to address the Conservative Political Action Conference. All other Republican candidates spoke to CPAC, but McCain didn’t want to “pander” to conservatives. Instead, he pandered to David Letterman and his audience, who don’t count as likely backers of McCain – or any other Republican.

Nonsense
McCain has been "announcing" his candidacy for at least 6 weeks now. The announcement on Letterman was one of so many others he's made before and since.

The fact is, McCain needs to appeal to more than the ultra-conservative wing of the GOP to win, and his appearance on Letterman got more good publicity than some staged "rah-rah" rally in front of the Lincoln memorial would have gotten. His announcement was no real surprise to anyone following politics, so to reach more than those who already knew was a smart polital move for McCain.

I'm not too concerned
Lets be real... CPAC is loaded with college students and young republicans...many of which were PAID to be there. The Romney campaign spent alot of money to get his supporters there.

The whole event was a CPAN sideshow. Having said that, McCain probaly didn't go because he feared Romney's paid supporters might boo him on TV.

As for McCain, his biggest problem wasn't the Letterman show or CPAC. His biggest problem is his age, and the fact that he has tied his nomination to events inside Iraq.

McCains Mistake, Excuse Me
We are not that stupid. An appearance on Letterman does not sway the liberal rabid conservatives. Try the correlation of McCain Feingold to entitlement spending. Try Jefferson spitting on McCain. "It is yours if you can keep it." We can't keep it with self interested statesmen like McCain. McCain on borders, (paraphrasing) no American will pick lettuce for $50/hour. Excuse me I most certainly will!!!!!! And $50/hr for lettuce picking may be the solution to welfare. McCains mistake is being a spokeswhole for the people that have funded his campaigns. Whoops not people, they have lost there voice with McCain Feingold, the corporations, like Univision.

McCain
McCain does not want to go near any conservative venue because he does not like conservatives and they don't like him. He has no chance of becoming the GOP nominee.
