One Is The Loneliest Number
Posted by: Duane R. Patterson at 6:06 PM
Tax cheating pornographer, Al Franken, the DFL candidate trying to unseat United States Senator Norm Coleman in Minnesota, held a roundtable discussion on Friday at a cafe in St. Cloud to discuss veterans issues.

One person showed up.

It resembled a Nancy Pelosi book signing.  Maybe Minnesotans didn't feel like burning $4 gas to go see a tax cheating pornographer.  Maybe there is record low unemployment in St. Cloud.

Or maybe this is just another small indicator that the game has changed, politically, from where it was a few short months ago.

Join the Obama Sing-A-Long, it's fun!
Arise ye starvelings from your slumbers
Arise ye prisoners of want
For reason in revolt now thunders
And at last ends the age of cant.
Away with all your superstitions
Servile masses arise, arise
We'll change henceforth the old tradition
And spurn the dust to win the prize.

So comrades, come rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale unites the human race.
So comrades, come rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale unites the human race.

No more deluded by reaction
On tyrants only we'll make war
The soldiers too will take strike action
They'll break ranks and fight no more
And if those cannibals keep trying
To sacrifice us to their pride
They soon shall hear the bullets flying
We'll shoot the generals on our own side.

No saviour from on high delivers
No faith have we in prince or peer
Our own right hand the chains must shiver
Chains of hatred, greed and fear
E'er the thieves will give up their booty
And give to all a happier lot.
Those at the forge must do their duty
And we'll strike while the iron is hot.

hey, but what about...
Franken taking government money for his "salary" on Air Amerikka, which was diverted from such things as after school centers in NYC?

He initially claimed ignorance (an easy thing in his case), then documents were produced with his signature on them demonstrating he was fully aware of what was going on.

Yeah, it's all for the children. Stay classy, Al.

This Minnesotan...
...was one of millions of Minnesotans who stayed away from that event in droves.

Franken turns my stomach. Fortunately there are a large number of conservative Dems in rural Minnesota who loathe him along with us Republicans.

This is why Miles Lord's daughter is running against Franken in the primary next month.

"My point was not to extol the virtues of George Galloway but to point out the contrast between Franken and his opponent Norm Coleman."

Right, that's why you wrote Galloway a letter. To tell him how he reminded you of Franken vs Coleman. Right.

I love it when progressives slip up like this and reveal the truth of their minds once in a while. It is so revealing to those who may be taken in by some of their more carefully couched phrasing and word parsing.

How telling this schmoe's attempt at...
...Comparative Analysis.

This yahoo, the multi-color character, 2 posts above----is the typical Liberal relativist----imagining Norm Coleman in the British Parliament. The Left loves the Europe paradaim. The Left absolutely loves to overlay our system, its players onto the European template.
What a bunch of romantic, deluded, emotive crap.

Al is funny
I used to listen to Al's show all the time, and the guy is, and always has been very funny. You don't write and perform, (Franken & Davis), on a Television institution, like Saturday Night live, unless you are talented and funny. Maybe your idea of funny is "Ernest goes Spelunking"? You don't like his politics, I guess that's your choice. Calling a guy who cares enough about the troops to go on 7 USO visits, a pornographer, and whatever other crap you want to say he is, seems pretty low.

Love all the vitriol from the Right Wingos.

Get your crying towels ready in November because you'll need them. Perhaps not in the Minnesota senate race, but most everywhere else.

Start thinking who to blame, maybe yourselves?

Toodaloo!!!

But never funny, or original, or talented...

As was said above he has become a parody of himself and a perfect symbol of the hypocritical left.

Let's talk about boomer conservatives. You know, George Bush, Karl Rove, etc. Is it any wonder they are the most unpopular politicians in history?

Your parents, for example, from New York. They produced an angry child like you, now raising (or worse, teaching) school children? I'll take Briggsy, anyday: he always has a sense of the human context of life (and politics) and its possibilities, rather than the attack views of an angry child. And smarmy, to boot: suck up to Salty, who at least listens to what he hears. God help us if you represent future sensibility.

Is a terrorist lickspittle.

He is complete and utter piece of garbage.

Being "upbraided" by walking, talking feces like Galloway is pure honor.

And by the way, Galloway was blatantly lying at the time. As usual. http://www.slate.com/id/2128742/

"(George Galloway) . . . not just a p1mp for fascism but one of its prostitutes as well."

How the western left loves terrorist murderers and not just because they carry out acts the western left is too cowardly to do themselves, but because the western left profits handsomely.

Why would a veteran . . .
Want to waste his time talking to an unqualified, inexperienced, corrupt nitwit?

He served in an area where merit counts.

Not being some never-was-much-to-begin-with, has-been.

Is there a single problem that Al Franken is qualified to help a veteran with? Of course not.

The only people Franken is qualified to help, are juvenile delinquents who need a dime bag on a Saturday night.

When the Democrat Party sets out to find the worst possible candidate for office, they do it right. Franken and Obama are definitely the worst possible candidates for the office they are running for.

Exactly the reason you are not taken with any degree of seriousness, nor hold any credibility by many.

It was you who leveled a charge of slander----and have zippo to show for it.
It was you who are piqued by the issue of pornography (details of which are available at the tips of your feeble little fingers).

And now?
You've no time for any of it.
Fickle as a schoolgirl, your temperament.
C'est la vie.

You are a rational, admirable man.
It is thusly a pleasure to see you on these threads.

You noticed, no doubt----how briggsy entirely changed the subject---to John McCain. He started out calling Duane a slanderer of Al Franken. He then allowed his curiosity to surface----blithely asking everyone what the "scoop" is on some pornography comment.

I called him out on his laziness, his lack of follow through on his own curiosity. YOU, on the other hand, hit this feckless little dweeb squarely in the solar plexus---defining him for what he is; in need of an enemy du jour---as long as it is someone he has chosen in advance to fill that roll.

SALTY---you ever come anywhere near my mountain, do not hesitate to climb it. I'd be honored to crack open a long cool one for you at the end of your ascent. The same goes for Paddy.

Agreed. Truly strange times where substantive thought and principle seem to be taking a back seat to juvenile narcissism. Perfect environment for modern liberalism/progressivism to gain traction. I wonder what the cost will be this time for such self indulgence?

The choice you advocate is revolution vs evolution of the party. Not a fan. Meaningful change will occur from within or not at all.

There is currently no viable 3rd party or 3rd party candidate. That is the realm of the disaffected, which attracts way too many kooky axe grinders and opportunists on both ends of the political spectrum.

I've said before I have some sympathy for your stance, but the stridency of your arguments is beginning to sound like mental entrenchment rather than thoughtful principle.

Briggsy writes: Sunday, August, 10, 2008 12:33 PM

Brigsy, again, the ignorance is palpable
You call it slander.

But, my point was this-----to which you obfuscate, ignore out of hand----you choose not to explore for yourself any possible connections your pal, Al, has to pornography---rather, you ask others to do the work for you.

Pathetic.

You call it slander----however----offer up NOTHING to defend your positon on the "slander" charge. If anything, you are as predictable as the sun is in rising.
Briggsy writes: Sunday, August, 10, 2008 12:07 PM

...and you notice, Skipper, that "Briggsy's" comments (5 posts above yours) perfectly illustrate the scotoma, myopia, out-and-out ignorance of the Left:

1.) He refers to Al Franken's tax cheating charge as, "bogus".

2.) Not only is he unaware (fair enough) of the flap over Franken's, "Porn-O-Rama" incident, this Leftie yahoo is unwilling, incapable, too lazy to use his KEYBOARD prowess to "google" AL FRANKEN PORNOGRAPHY for himself. Rather, he chooses to rely on others to do his work for him.
He's curious enough to ask the question.
He's just not industrious enough to ferret out the information for himself----opts to be spoon-fed by others instead.
No doubt, if someone put the information in front of his own eyes---this too would be rendered as, "bogus".

Predictable Lefty lethargy.
Predictably pathetic positions.

Al's ads
Al's latest TV ad admits he cheated on his taxes in 17 states, but says it was just an oversight. I'm gonna try that argument next time I fail to report income in 17 states.

So far, Al's media arguments have involved apologizing for tax cheating and offensive "humor". Some campaign.

Joe of Many Multi-Colored Dresses
No Joe, you only use the label when it suits you. Being for big global government, against defending your own borders and undermining our constitution is not being conservative. It is "going with the flow". If you believed, you would be fighting for your conservative principles, not fighting to be the only "badge conservative" allowed on the Titanic. Conservatism is a very specific political way of thinking which you don't have. You keep confusing conservative for "all purpose Republican". Keep holding your nose. Eventually your brain will shrivel to the size of a raisin and you won't be able to reason at all.

"I'm Joe..."
It is an interesting proposition, yours.
I'm not sure I agree, though.
[Assuming that you are that, "Joe", from last winter---these name changes are a tad confusing]

Let me see if I have this correct. You are voting McCain, for the reason that he is the candidate of choice for the republicans (even though I distinctly recall that you were backing him before the repub's officially elected him as their man---my point is that you had other candidates at the time you could have supported, yet, you were a gungho McCain backer).

PPhil, however, is anethema to McCain, refuses to vote for him---may even vote for some Ron-Paul-Bob-Barr-Ross-Perot type loser, with this thought; McCain is not conservative and if it takes this country tilting even further to the Left to teach our country (read conservatives) the lesson that it requires they present a true conservative movement again to "save our country"----so be it.
In other words, "throw-the-baby-out-with-the-bathwater idea?
Does that about size up your "wedge"?

... the perspective from which this piece was written?

It read like Franken's mom wrote it - _very_ sympathetic to the wannabe senator... and very much like the reporter was thinking, "Well, I'm here; I might as well write something and get paid"

It left me with a lemons-to-lemonade feeling.

sad.

Wow! Joe the judge of conservativism!
Who are you kidding? You're a Republican nose holder. What do you know about conservatism? You are in the tank for McCain for God's sake. It's not about rhetoric, it's about how their pasts predict what they will do when elected: same thing. Politicians say all kinds of things and if you devoted any time at all to thinking, you would know that Joe.

Have you had a chance to work on your performance of Robert Burns' (not to be confused with Montgomery Burns) love paeon to McCain: "McCain Walks in Beauty"?

Would you like me to re-post it for those who haven't seen it yet?

Obam v. McCain, Poltical SAT
Tell me the difference between these two quotes:

"I strongly condemn the outbreak of violence in Georgia, and urge an immediate end to armed conflict. Now is the time for Georgia and Russia to show restraint, and to avoid an escalation to full scale war. Georgia’s territorial integrity must be respected. All sides should enter into direct talks on behalf of stability in Georgia, and the United States, the United Nations Security Council, and the international community should fully support a peaceful resolution to this crisis."

Barack Obama

vs.

"For many years, I have warned against Russian actions that undermine the sovereignty of its neighbors. Unfortunately, we have seen in recent days Russia demonstrate that these concerns were well-founded.

This afternoon I spoke, for the second time since the crisis began, with Georgian President Saakashvili. It is clear the situation is dire. Russian aggression against Georgia continues, with attacks occurring far beyond the Georgian region of South Ossetia. As casualties continue to mount, the international community must do all it can to avert further escalations. Tensions and hostilities between Georgians and Ossetians are in no way justification for Russian troops crossing an internationally recognized border. I again call on the Government of Russia to immediately and unconditionally withdraw its forces from the territory of Georgia."

John McCain
