Romney Report
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 12:30 AM
MSNBC's John Yang says a Romney senior campaign official says "tomorrow will be a day of frank discussions on the campaign."

Not quite a revelation, but the only news they have. A long day of meetings was already on the schedule long before the California news.

Yang says visit to Kansas on Friday is likely to be nixed.

Pat Buchanan says he doesn't believe Romney will pull out.

Norah wonders "how many conservative are popping pills" because "they can't go to bed because of heartburn" over the McCain wins this evening.

Who's Who in the Corruption 2007
Half my problem in McCain the other Half is Huckabee. If that becomes the ticket...yicks. Did anyone see this report? It came to my attention only today. Room won't let me post it completely.

Judicial Watch Announces List of Washington’s “Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians” for 2007
(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today released its 2007 list of Washington’s “Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians.” The list, in alphabetical order, includes:

1. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY):
6. Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR): Governor Huckabee enjoyed a meteoric rise in the polls in December 2007, which prompted a more thorough review of his ethics record. According to The Associated Press: “[Huckabee’s] career has also been colored by 14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor’s office.” And what was Governor Huckabee’s response to these ethics allegations? Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down.
8. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL): December 19, 2007

Huckabee's anti-Mormonism
"Intothewild" apparently missed Huckabee's mis-stating of Mormon theology where he insinuated that Mormons give Jesus and Satan equal footing and standing. A complete untruth, of course.

I don't know where "intothewild", as a Mormon, has been hiding these last 20 years, but to be totally unaware of the fact that some evangelical leaders make a career out of being "anti-Mormon", is nearly unbelievable.

"Mormons are tolerant folks, but they don't tolerate anti-Mormon hostility" is a very concise and accurate quote.

Mormon's are generally very active politically, also, as they are steeped in Mormon history which vividly depicts social and governmental cabals who actively participated in violence against Mormons during the early history of the Mormon Church, and Mormons also remember the actions of the U.S. Government which drove Mormon leaders into hiding at the turn of the 20th century.

As a Mormon myself, I have no problem with evangelicals in general. For instance, I supported Pat Robertson's 1988 Presidential bid.

And the idea that Mormons always vote Mormon is incorrect: Harry Reid is a Mormon, but I wouldn't vote for him.

Huckabee started losing my respect when he was in Iowa using religious bigotry as a method to get votes.

I'm pretty sure he lost the "Mormon" vote nationwide around that time..except for "intothewild".

McCain and Huck--will not get my Vote
Mitt Romney is the most valid conservative, intelligent, choice of all the candidates. Why do voters avoid researching their choices? Huck won the South, because so many of them are Baptists. He (Huck) has a huge ego, and preaches to the audience, then he goes into his joke session, or he will even pull out his guitar. He is not concise in answering important questions. I still think that he and McCain have conspired, so that Huck will without a doubt be his choice for V.P. Wait and see. They both (kind conservatives who sell out Romney) so they will go to the White House. I believe they are anti-capitalism because all they have done (right along with the media) is down, criticize, complain, mention it over and over,) that Romney has money, Romney has more money than any of us. GET OVER IT YOU TWO PATHETIC GROWN MEN.... So what...he is intelligent and made money with his company. Don't you (McAmnesty and Preacher Huck) want that for all Americans. I will not vote for McCain, Huck, and of course not the Democrats. America is changing for the worse....and most of it is due to the corruption in Washington, criminals such as the Clintons, McCain who is a pseudo conservative-give me a break...he is a liar and liberal, and Huck just wants to go to Washington. If he is McCain's V.P., hopefully he can minister to him and help him learn tactics to help McCain control his temper and manic behavior. Romney don't give up....we need you and your self-control, integrity, and the fact that you talk about the issues and do not divert from them.

intothewild is crazy
I'm sorry to tell you but you're absolutely wrong. Your mentions of the abortion and gay marriage issues prove that you really don't understand much of what is going on. Research what really happened when it came to those issues with Mitt Romney and then come back and talk. You think that Mormons support bigotry because they supported Romney in overwhelming odds in Utah? I would think you should have more solid evidence before you slash someone down so quickly. Utah is one of Romney's former home states, who voted for Romney in incredible numbers. Voting only because he is Mormon, or could it possibly be that Mormons tend to be more politically active than other individual groups? If you recall Huckabee also won his home state by a large majority. Bigotry from those in Arkansas? As for Mormon leaders endorsing any one in this presidential candidate race, being a Mormon you should know that Mormon leaders remain neutral in political issues, except those that they deem moral. Mormons only voting for Romney because he's Mormon... I'm sure you would like to think so. Simplifies the situation wouldn't it? As for "EV"'s not being bigots. Well, I agree with you. But saying that a large amount of them voted for Huckabee over Romney for any other reason than religion would be absurd to infer. Huckabee says he doesn't attack Mormonism, but he wants to make sure that he still gets his cut downs on Mormonism out there. "I'm not going to run my anti-Mormon ad, but don't they believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?" That's like saying, "Oh I won't cut down Romney for being Mormon, but I'm just going to leak this bit of anti-Mormon rhetoric out there just to make sure the national news gets wind of it."

Your lack of education is astonishing intothewild. Thanks for the laugh though.
Mormons4Huckabee writes: Wednesday, February, 06, 2008 2:48 AM
Are Mormons Anti Evangelical???
Am I alone as a Mormon in voting for the real conservative Mike Huckabee?
Did anybody notice that Romney took Utah by around 90%? Those numbers suggest that every Mormon voted for Romney. (LDS are around 70% of the Utah population) Here in my community in California, every Mormon I know is voting for Romney and they HATE Huckabee. It's pure bigotry against him when I discuss the issues.

Now lets compare that to EVs.If you look at the polls in Florida, Iowa, etc. EVs have voted more for other candidates than for Huckabee. This should put to rest once and for all that EVs are anti Mormon. They could have knocked Romney out of this a long time ago if that were true. EV leaders have even endorsed Romney yet I haven't seen one Mormon leader endorse Huckabee.

Now compare that with Utah. Huckabee had around 2% of the vote. That should say more about Mormon bias and voting for somebody based on religion. EVs are so often vilified for that (and it's a big fat lie) but LDS are given a free pass. I wouldn't dare reveal to my Mormon community that I support Huckabee or I might get lynched.

The reason I believe Mormons are only voting for Romney based on religion is simple. Look at Romney's liberal record. He supported liberal positions on family values we hold dear as Christians.
Abortion is the most reprehensible. It is against our religion to support abortion and aide in destroying human life, yet Romney supported it. The gay marriage issue was something our church encouraged us to fight.
Romney was on the other side of that too.

I think it's time for LDS to stop accusing EVs of anti Mormonism and look in the mirror. We could easily say Mormons are anti EV for not supporting the true conservative in this race-Mike Huckabee
Crispian writes: Wednesday, February, 06, 2008 2:33 AM
Would be a mess
If Romney doesn't drop out, the vote continues to be diluted among all 3 candidates, with McCain gradually getting the votes. This would result in a weakened candidate for the general election.

Romney ran a flawless campaign in my opinion. But the support for him just has not existed. It is too late for him to get any substantial growth now.
Original Bigfoot writes: Wednesday, February, 06, 2008 1:49 AM
I was thinking the same thing...
....as lo.

Huckabee and McCain have been praising each other profusely since Florida, while both railed against that "upstart Mormon" Romney..

McCain throws his supporters to Huckabee in West Virginia to deny Romney the win..(Romney won the first go-round at the West Virginia Convention, but didn't get over 50%, so they threw Ron Paul out and voted again...this time with McCain giving his supporters to "Huckleberry")

"Huckleberry's" been hawking a book on the radio...ever since he won Iowa. Is he running for Prez, or just selling books?

Having spent a decade living in Arizona, I've known of McCain's duplicity for a long time.

However, I'd barely heard of Huckabee until last year, and my opinion of "Huckleberry" has been dropping consistently ever since I started paying attention to him after his win in Iowa.

If there turns out to be a McCain/Huckabee ticket, I might just start campaigning for Hillary after all...

Sad indeed
Sad that Republicans can't see through McCain and Huckabee. Huckabee who tries to play off as the kind, funny guy who has an absurd strategy of attacking Romney while leaving McCain alone. McCain who will say anything to get political gains. A masterful politician who can take a sound clip, spin it to where it is devoid of any truth, and play it off as if he is reading it from the Bible. Huckabee is too busy trying to "make sure" Republicans remember that Romney is a liar that he can't see that he doesn't stand a chance against the man that he has yet to attack. Phone calls in California in support of McCain saying that Romney does not believe in God, what kind of nonsense is this? Shady politics in West Virginia. How can the Republican party turn it's back on Conservatism? McCain admitted to not understanding how the economy works, yet Republicans somehow took that as meaning that he was best at fixing it. Sad indeed.

Romney says,

"One thing that's clear is this campaign's going on. I think there are some people who thought it was all going to be done tonight. But it's not all done tonight. We're going to keep on battling. We're going to go all the way to the convention. We're going to win this thing, and we're going to get to the White House."

Morals and Values Win!
Looks like Biblical morals and values won throughout the South. And I am very Thankful.

Most people seem to agree that the South is the conservative base and today we saw that Mike Huckabee won those states. All of them.

The talking heads tried so hard to downplay the importance of morals and values in this election, and now you can clearly see, it is very important.

You are an idiot. I believe the post questioning McCain's being a "traitor" referred to the GOP, not our country. Just because he was a POW doesn't make him the best candidate. It doesn't even mean he's the best on war issues. His views on waterboarding, Gitmo are messed up to say the least.

MITT ROMNEY! He's the most conservative candidate running to hold office. It's a shame what happened today & that the "Spoiler" & "Foot Soldier" had to pull shady politics to pull votes away from Romney. Not very Christian of the "Spoiler" & not very admirable of the "Foot Soldier".

Has anyone else noticed that
Huckabee has won a majority of Southern states? Part of me suspects anti-American Confederate hold-outs, determined to destroy America by NOT supporting dad. I also understand that people of color are quite numerous in the dirty dirty South, and since many of these people are actually Democrats I have to suspect that they were trying to interfere in our GOP primaries by nominating Huck, knowing that a vote for Huck is a vote for McCain, and that McCain is a much less viable candidate than dad!

Does anyone here have any idea why Huck led in the South, and why dad did so poorly? I always thought the South was the most conservative part of the country. What gives? Dad has been a true red meat conservative since the beginning of his campaign!!!

Hey Gang!!! Didn't you hear?
Romney is Rising!!! He won Mass and Utah! This is just the beginning!!!

After we win the presidency we're going to win the war in Iraq, catch Osama, reduce the deficit via tax cuts for corporations and the wealthiest one percent, and kick out 12 million plus illegals that are keeping much of the economy going!!! And that's before we take the economy to new heights via a continuation of W's brilliant policies!!!

Listen to people like Rush and Hugh! They know that America is sick, and Romney (my beloved dad) is the medicine. This is why so many Americans in Utah and Mass are supporting dad, and why he's going to be the next prez!

McCain's price paid for winning nominee.
McCain will win the nominee. Unfortunately, he will have paid far more than Romney in the end. We will have a Democrat in the White House in Nov. Democrats are far more motivated this year than Republicans. Furthermore, with McCain crapping all over the Party base, don't count on high turn out. West Virgnia will be sand in our swimsuit for months if not years.
Romney's millions pale in comparison to the price we will all pay for the next 4 years.
Thanks John. You're an underwhelming hero.

There is one way to beat McCain. Romney drops out tomorrow, then endorses Huckabee and gives all of his delagates to him. This would make the count almost even; but McCain would probably be ahead. Then all the conservatives should rally around Huckabee at CPAC this weekend, and then take out McCain in the rest of the primaries. If nobody reaches the 1191 need the there will be a brokered convention and McCain will surley lose in the senario since his past sins will come back to haunt him. Simple as that!!

McCain has done too much to insult conservatives, and recently Romney supporters in particular.

His lies will not be forgiven.

I can live with four disasterous years of another Clinton for a chance at true conservatism in 2012.

McCain beats Romney huge on the economy in California (the top issue for voters). Not even close, 46-30. How can Mitt win when McCain is winning on his main campaign issue? It's almost sad how many people have blatently rejected this guy, and dropping out might actually save some face for him down the road.
