Leadership Comedy of Errors: The Dem Story
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 2:21 PM

Say hello to the man Nancy Pelosi is working hard to get into that Majority Leader position (this from Roll Call):

Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) told a group of Democratic moderates on Tuesday that an ethics and lobbying reform bill being pushed by party leaders was "total crap," but said that he would work to enact the legislation because Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) supports it.

Cleaning house by putting Abscam Jack Murtha in charge of passing "total crap" ethics bills!

The Washington Post and others have been awfully loud about Murtha's ethical shortcomings in the last couple of days in a way they weren't back when he was convicting his fellow Marines before their trials. Funny.

Allah's keeping track of the Majority Leader race, in which it looks like Steny Hoyer may have the votes to get the position. So, in just a few days, Pelosi has managed to significantly weaken the position of her own party as a reform party and her own position as Speaker, all thanks to this affinity for Jack.

Now, if the Republicans weren't so intent on being the exact same party they've always been in response to a historic loss, they'd have a good chance at snatching the banner of reform out of Pelosi's hands. But, you know how that's going.
