You are your own name say. A pig is worth more by far. |

Ohhh, "coded message", got it. /tinfoil hat. |
I am not calling the town racist. I'm saying that the Reagan campaign chose that symbolic spot in 1980 in order to send what Mehlman and others have called a "coded message" to racist white voters that they had a home in the GOP. This is not an issue in serious dispute. That's what they did. Sorry. |

The 20th and 21st century plantation for African-Americans has been the Democratic party. Liberal Joe Biden says Obama is one of those "clean" types. Blacks aren't capable of taking care of themselves so they continue to require assistance. Of course this assistance comes at a price and the price is they must vote Democratic. But look what happens if an African-American gets to uppity or in Obama's case tries to upset the the Democratic "old boys" club. The satirical slights come out. Just wait and see if Obama really starts to give Hillary a run, the "step and fetch it" side of the Democrats will rise to the surface. In my mind the subtle racism of the Democratic party is still there simmering even a 150 years after the civil war. Blacks are meant to be owned either literally or figuratively by the Democratic party. |

"And no, that was not a message to white racists voters when Reagan made his first post-Labor Day speech in the 1980 campaign in a town in Mississippi that was the site of some of the worst racial violence of the 1960's. Saint Ronnie would never do such a thing."
You just called an entire town racists. It seems perfectly reasonable when campaigning to travel around to all regions of the country, even if they have some rough history, perhaps even more importantly because of it, they should be brought into the mainstream. How long should people wait before treating that town as 'normal' again. Twenty years not enough? Ridiculous. If that was pandering to "white racist voters" then I'm waiting for your criticism of the Dems for pandering to black racist voters. |
Perfect example of the soft bigotry of low expectations. Sure, it's a mistake, a sloppy use of words, but it still reflects something deeper in terms of expectations.
You've got to admit though, that Obama does look pretty good next to a McKinney or Waters or Hastings or Jefferson... I guess Biden forgot all about Harold Ford (pre-election Time and Newsweek cover boy).
LL:"Boxer may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but she's plenty savvy- you don't have a career like she's had by being stupid."
So you'll hold that logic to Bush as well, right? |
After decades of denial by Reublicans, Ken Mehlman copped to the . . . ahem . . . "Southern Strategy" in the summer of 2005 in a speech to the NAACP. He basically admitted that the Grand Old Party had routinely exploited racism for political advantage.
Of course, that was all a long, long time ago and no Republican would ever do such a thing again. And no, he didn't admit to it for political reasons now in an attempt to woo back the African American vote. He just wants us all to be brothers.
And no, that was not a message to white racists voters when Reagan made his first post-Labor Day speech in the 1980 campaign in a town in Mississippi that was the site of some of the worst racial violence of the 1960's. Saint Ronnie would never do such a thing.
It's so unfair that after 40 years of race-baiting the GOP doesn't get the benefit of the doubt. |
not from the kingfish LLL bloggers. The RCP blog has a nice cut and paste summation of the lashing Joe got from the infamous Moonbat Trilogy today.
Speaking of MSM, how 'bout them nice operating losses for the NYT and BG?
If loss of substantial ad revenue is this year's problem, can we all hope bankruptcy is not too far away?

No one I know supports him for President. He always ties himself up in these verbal knots. The guy who said he's going to get the nomination knows nothing about Democratic Party politics.
That said, I have to chuckle at the attacks on Boxer and Leahy. Boxer may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but she's plenty savvy- you don't have a career like she's had by being stupid. As for Leahy, he's a grad of Georgetown Law School and was voted one of the three best prosecutors in the country in 1974. You may disagree with the man but dumb he ain't. |

He meant clean as in clean record. He has no scandals tied to him. |

Slow Joe is just one example of the type of person described in a study published in the Journal of Personality and Psychology in December, 1999. The title is "Unskilled and Unaware of It: How Difficulties in Recognizing One's Own Incompetence Lead to Inflated Self-Assessments".
From the abstract: "People tend to hold overly favorable views of their abilities in many social and intellectual domains. The authors suggest that this overestimation occurs, in part, because people who are unskilled in these domains suffer a dual burden: Not only do these people reach erroneous conclusions and make unfortunate choices, but their incompetence robs them of the metacognitive ability to realize it." That last sentence describes Slow Joe to a "T".
One aspect of this lack of metacognition is that the majority of drivers believe themselves to be above average in that skillset. It is truly unfortunate that the voters of Delaware don't have the cognitive ability to recognize Slow Joe for what he is.
The study is found at http://www.apa.org/journals/features/psp7761121.pdf
Oh, and Joe must never have heard of George Washington Carver.

I doubt these remarks will do him any harm at all. He'll be given the opportunity to EXPLAIN himself to someone in the MSM, and all will be forgiven.
I believe he's going to get the nomination. Hillary has too much baggage, Obama's too "green" (I think "green" is what Biden meant when he said "clean"), Edwards is an idiot, and the rest of 'em don't have a prayer.
Biden's the only one with LOTS of experience, connections, influence, etc. And, he's a white, Anglo-Saxon male. |
I'm with Chris in thinking that this was just a silly mistake, slip of the tongue, or whatever you want to call it. Joe Biden is a pompous a**, but I doubt he's racist.
Still, like others, I truly believe that a Rep would be TOAST for this or a similar remark....ask George Allen if he thinks he'd get a pass for that comment. Anybody think that WaPo is going to go wall-to-wall for months over this slip of the tongue? Don't hold your breath.
The MSM treats Reps and Dems differently. Dems will always get the benefit of the doubt from their cheerleaders in the press. |
Biden is an arrogant sort that time and time again is defeated at his chance for the White House by his mouth. There is no debate that if a Republican had said this the MSM would all over this for days. Can anyone imagine the scorn Mitt Romney would have gotten if he said this? As it is now, this is a one day story if that with the MSM and then it it's off to Bush lied again. |

Slow Joe - the gift that keeps on giving!

I am wrong about MR. Rogers, at least after a quick look online. I was basing my info on something I was told, forget by who, quite some time ago and it seems the info was wrong.
He could have been President
sorry :-( |
on the other hand was American and just pursued a children TV career in Canada. He could have been president. |
oh yeah, Mr. Rogers was Canadian and born there not in the US, so he could not have been president. |
the difference being that when a republican makes a simple mistake he/she is vilified by the MSM and most times forced to resign or looses an election that they should not have lost. |
I am no fan of Biden, but I read this as a simple mistake. |
To allow fools like Biden, Jackson, Sharpton represent their views. Call their shots. Give them 50 years worth of unfullfilled promises AND YET YOU STILL FOLLOW THEM LOCK STEP?
When is a true black leader going to emerge to tell these democrats to stfu and get out of the way? |
I'll be kind and assume that those in a minority or special/protected group can freely riducule and insult themselves (though I think that exemption is also wrong).
The content of these short remarks are packed with, generalizations and sterotyping. The images Biden paints in his remarks are racist images. If he is a racist, I do not know. What I do know is that he IS dim. Every six months or so he sticks his foot in his mouth (listen to his speech at Princeton when he discusses the on-campus visit he made with his son).
Even if he is not a racist, he is insensitive and unlike others who misue the 'N' word or paint stereotypes of African Americans and are white, he is a politician. Biden represents those dirty, ill-spoken, Colt 45 drinking, bling bling loving, dirty criminal thugs who MUST be on the other side his verbal 'equation' (based on HIS remarks).
This plagiarist, fool mouthed boob should resign.

Every once in a while Jonah can set aside the partisanship:
"Yes it is infuriating that when conservatives make similar mistakes, we're automatically interpreted in the most damning way possible. And, yes, of course, if Bush said something like this — and given his staccato speaking style that's not unimaginable — the usual suspects would be calling Bush a bigot or fool (again). But I see no reason for conservatives to play the same game dishonestly. Of course, if you really think Biden believes Obama is the first clean, nice-looking or bright African-American, ever, by all means have at him." http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=NTdmN2MwNWQ3NzI3YjViZDUwYmE2MTY0ZGM0NTQwNmQ=
By the way, I cannot stand Biden and what he said today was careless but it is disengenous to claim it was racist. |
and I can't type.......make that HRC |
the Democrats need a candidate who has mastered the "insert foot in mouth" maneuver.
Notice HRB of late is being scripted to the hilt by her handlers. |
Lynne:
I don't think you're right about this getting little play in thr MSM. If it sells papers or boosts rating, it'll get play.
Biden is going to have make the same apology rounds Michael Richards, Mel Gibson and Isiah Washington did. Only more so. He'll probably even have to apologize to Al Sharpton, a truly humiliating fate. |
Don't you know, there are no "black" GOP figures. None at all. If you are in the GOP you automatically become "white." Condi, Powell, Steele--all white. It is magic. As far as the Dems are concerned they are about the same racially as Trent Lott.
Now Colin started to get a blush when he opposed the war. Then he started, very slowly, becoming black again.

Hughie, Rush Limbaugh? Do you really want to open that can of worms? |
I am still laughing. But see, in the Orwellian world of dhimmiecrats, it is not possible for dhimmicrats to be racist. Just like they claim it is not possible for African Americans to be racist. double ungood, joe! double ungood! |
Howard got railroaded. I am not big at yelling "racist" anytime someone says something about race, but Biden's remarks are condesending enough to be insulting. |
Say goodnight Joe - "Goodnight American and my presidential run" - Thanks Joe! Aome people think this guy is bright? NOT
This is simply racists by the fact it is absolute stereotyping to the worst degree. If the rest of the African American caucus in the House and the Senate have any ethics, they will demand his resignation.
Is this they guy who said something to the effect thay he understood the issues of African Americans because his home state of Delaware was a slave state?
Howard Cosell and Jimmy the Greek should both get a "Do Over".

I believe your math may have errors. 100 times zero is still zero. No human being on earth has a lower intelligence than Boxer (with the possible exception of Pelosi). |
hahahahahaha. okay: Carol Mosely Braun/ Mel Reynolds/ Cynthia McKinney/ William Jefferson / Kanye West/ Marion Berry - i could go on and on.... |
Only EEEEVIL republicans are ALL racists. Fred Rogers was a clean, articulate nice guy, and I like him - but I don't think Mr. Rogers would have made a good President.
The things that come out of Joe Biden's mouth. They are just amazing. He does this all the time. He cannot help himself.
Yes of course--If Rush said those things he would be pillored by the Left. But while the media storm will be a mild one, the Left may even go after Biden a bit for this one. Perhaps Biden might not intended it as condesending, but wow, the comment is really condensending in print.
Biden is not stupid. As Democrats go he is not such a bad guy, just a very wrong guy. I disagree with him on the Iraq War and his lack of support for it alone (and lack of commitment to victory) makes him unsuitable for leading that effort.
But Biden just can help himself when he starts talking. He is stupid for thinking he can seriously run for President with comments such as that one. |
Chopped Liver?
What about Clarence Thomas?
JC Watts?
Oh, but I guess if they don't agree with Mr. Biden they aren't mainstream.
Or perhaps the good Senator thinks that they aren't clean? |
