I should have live blogged this, but I got caught up in the moment. Game on and tell me what you all think of the speech in the comments! I'm going to do a video wrap up after the speech ends and I want your input!
10:40 Palin is going at length introducing her family to the country. Pledges to be an friend and advocate for special needs Americans in the White House. Introducers her parents as farmers who "are always proud of America."
10:41: Says she's just an "average hockey Mom who signed up for the PTA" laughs when she sees members of the audience who are holding "hockey moms for Palin" signs.
10:42: Calls out Obama without naming him. "And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a ‘community organizer,’ except that you have actual responsibilities."
While Palin makes history, Code Pinkers are escoted out.
She calls out Obama for talking smack about small town people who cling to guns and religion behind closed doors.
10:44 Starts to tout her outsider/reformer status. Calls out the media. Audience boos (the media), some chant USA! USA! "Here's a newsflash for the newspapers and commentators, I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion."
Standing O, crowd is eating this up.
10:48: Says she helped put the government of her state "back on the side of the people." Says she got rid of a luxury jet, "I put it on eBay," she said. "I love to drive myself to work and I thought we could muddle along without a personal chef." Repeats her "Thanks, but no thanks" line about the Bridge to Nowhere.
10:50: Brags she sent state revenue back to the people of Alaska. Says she help break the lobbyists "monopoly on power."
10:51: Woo, now she' s on energy. "We cannot leave ourselves at the mercy of foreign suppliers." She says "Take it from Alaska, we know the North Slope."
"The fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all."
Promises with McCain-Palin administration "We are going to lay more pipelines and build more nuclear plants" and move forward on wind, solar and all alternative sources.
10:54 Says listening to Obama speak it's "easy to forget this is a man who has authored to memoirs" but not any laws or reforms in the Senate. "This is a man who can give entire speeches about the war in this country and not use the word victory except for his own campaign."
10:57: Hits Obama on energy, war, terror. "Al Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America ... he's worried that someone won't read them their rights?"she asks.
10:58: Now on taxes. "Taxes are too high ... he wants to raise them. His tax increases are the fine print in his economic plan, and let me be specific. The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes ... raise payroll taxes ... raise investment income taxes ... raise the death tax ... raise business taxes ... and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."
Ok, I gotta start writing stuff for me video wrap up. Looks like a great speech, what a night.

palin was spectacular last night, theres nothing they can say to rip her speech apart, nothing, shes a breath of fresh air, and in touch with reality, and the American people can relate too. |

Sarah Palin's ability to connect with the audience is superior to Obama's and she is the real deal. Combined with the outrageous behavior of the press this could have a coat tail effect and dramatically change the outcome of the general election. |

Won't get me to vote for amnesty.

Now, let's see how Gergen manages to criticize it. |

crowd that is there. I understand that. My sense, however, is that the right wing true believers may have lost sight of the key objective, which is to win the election. In that sense the audience is bigger than the crowd that is there, and I am thinking that this speech is not going to work for that wider audience. of course, I am no pundit, so who knows. |

I do not think you are listening to the same speech we are! She is hitting a grand slam home run tonight! The McCain convention bounce begins! |
|

sorry to say I do not think this is a winning strategy for the general election. If McCain had run to the middle he would have had it in the bag. Now, it will be a real nail biter, but on balance I would have to say Palin will hurt him more than she will help him. |

She is knocking the ball out of the park!
She is laughing in the face of all the pathetic liberal attacks on her! |
