(Video of Huckabee's CPAC speech coming soon ...)
In addressing CPAC this morning, Mike Huckabee made it clear he was not dropping out: "Am I quitting? Well, let's get that settled right now. No, I am not!" (cheers and applause).
Always a powerful orator, Huckabee noted that: "My conservatism is rooted in my understanding of the scriptures." He then jokingly quoted this Bible verse, saying: "A wise man's heart directs him to the right, but a fools heart directs him to the left."
The speech was inspiring; the sort of thing you'd hear at a motivational conference. He opened the speech focusing on his personal background, and how this country allowed him to rise from near-poverty to become governor of Arkansas. Huckabee said that growing up in Arkansas, he only knew 7 Republicans. He said that, growing up, they had three heroes: Jesus, Elvis, and FDR.
He said Phyllis Schlafly's book, "It's a Choice, Not an Echo," inspired him as a teenager. This is interesting, as Schlafly has been an outspoken critic of Huckabee.
Huckabee said that America is a great nation because our founding fathers, "were first on their knees before they were on their feet. We are a nation rooted by our faith."
Regarding the war on Islamo-Fascism, he said: "This is not a war for soil, this is a war for our soul."
He gave a very conservative speech, which spent a lot of time focused on the tax code that is, "choking the life out of small business."
Addressing fiscal conservatism, he said he would like to be the president that puts the IRS out of business. Then, as a prop, he ripped up a piece of paper that was to represent a tax form.
At several points, the crowd erupted into the chant: "We LIKE MIKE!, WE LIKE MIKE!
He closed by saying that some pundits say of his chances, "... the math doesn't work out," but he added" ... I didn't major in math, I majored in miracles, and I still believe in miracles."
He also noted he's the only candidate who has, "run against the Clinton machine, and beat it four times."

(Doug Glies was the emcee, and Star Parker introduced the former governor.)

Wow aure is kind-of-surprising ow those supporters are great at mud slinging about Romney aren't here this second. Guess they can dish it out but can't take it. |
If the Huck man invoked so much excitement in his CPAC speech, why would Mitt Romney have won the CPAC straw poll, even after he is not even in the race, with Huckabee a distant 3rd? Spin that Hucksuppoters. |
I don't know - I think it's quite self righteous to call yourself the "Christian Leader", to say that your rise in the polls is from God with the implication that you are God's choice, and comparing yourself to Jesus feeding the 5000 or to David slaying Golaith. I haven't heard any other candidate comparing himself to Jesus. Have you?
That obviously takes a lot of guts and reveals an incredible attitude of self-importance that is simply breathtaking, if not shocking. And I doubt if God's stamp of approval was upon Huck when he decided to exploit anti-Mormon sentiment and play the bigotry card while at the same time denying he was doing so. What do you suppose the Lord thinks of that? I think a couple of commandments say something about loving your neighbor, and not lying, if I'm not mistaken. |
Romney's whole appeal and message from the begining was his experience in business and in having a decisive edge on economic issues. He's been talking about it since day one, and is the only one who comprehends the big picture, including China. He also has emphasized the 3 legs of conservatism since the very begining of his camapign. I've been following him for well over a year now, even before he officially announced.
Romney is the true conservative because of his record, and Huckabee is not. Romney is said to have the deepest understanding of the foreign policy issues we are facing, he "gets" it better than anyone, including McCain.
Whereas Huck's foreign policy position is practically non-existent and he has no depth beyond "we broke something in Iraq" and we "need wingtips" in Iran. He thinks we should close Gitmo to gain favor with the world.
Indeed, he has no depth of knowledge or understanding on any issue besides life and marriage. But, I will also point out that Romney has been a warrior for the marriage amendment, going to Congress and trying to persuade them to support the it, unfortunately to no avail. McCain was even opposed. I haven't seen any evidence that Huckabee is a committed conservative on anything but life. Or that he has the brain power, talent or character to be CIC, and president.
Only in Huckabee's dreams would Romney "lift" ideas from the Huckster! |
That wasn't very fair to ask you to respond to my concerns without telling you what they are. See my post of 4:16 to see what I'm talking about. I have raised those concerns numerous times but yet to have a Huckabee supporter respond to them.
Also, I should not have arngret would agree with me. I should not have placed words in his mouth. |
I, and I am sure arngret would agree, could care less what any of them has said. The proof is in what they have done. If Huckabee wants to claim saying a phrase first, that makes no difference to me.
Eddie seems to have disappeared but if you are a Huckabee supporter I would be interested in your response to those concerns of mine. |
arngret Concerning your point that Huckbee lifted some ideas from Romney... We in Iowa got to hear these guys long before the rest of the nation, and long before they "found" their voice. Most of Romney's message was lifted from what Huckabee was saying for months in Iowa, such as government being broken and the like. Incredibly, two weeks before Romney started that whole thing, I saw him berating Huckabee, and calling him a populist because of it. Based on the first several months of the campaign, clearly no two voices have shaped the republican side more than those of Tom Tancredo and Mike Huckabee. Say what you will, but at least give them credit for first saying what Romney would eventually get called "the true conservative" for saying. |
I second MaineConservative's Sean quote of "Let not your heart be troubled." My reason, however, is because if Governor Huckabee should win the nomination, we will have chosen the LEAST self-righteous of the candidates. He knows with all of his heart that all he is and may become is only because of the grace of God! |
Please, let not your heart be troubled (as Sean would say). I predicted, and maintain my prediction, that I will be president before Mike Huckabee.
It's not gonna happen. |
Oh God, please help us. Do not let this self-righteous preacher become president! |
Let me apologize to all. I said in my ealier post that I had read a copy of speech, but it had been some time ago. I called the person who showed me where it was and it was not actually a copy of the speech but an analysis of the speech in 1998, wherein Governor Huckabee was the keynote speaker and copies of the book "Mormonism Unmasked" by R. Philip Roberts was distributed. Again, it was a long time ago and I apologize for the error in my memory - particularly to eddie.
Having said that, the facts still remains as I laid them out, and I'm waiting from a response from eddie. |

If John McCain wins the Presidency, so goodbye to a pardon for border agents Ramos And Compean. Two men who were prosecuted by the Federal government for protecting the borders of our country. Does anyone really think McCain has any interested in pardoning fine men like this? |
He is not inevitable- don't go along with this angry, bitter, tyrannical little man who wants to be King! We defeated his immigration bomb last year; we can force the RNC to find an alternative! McCain has not changed his stripes; he's only waiting eagerly to get the power of POTUS to prevent law enforcement, open the borders and let the world walk in to bankrupt our treasury with med care, education, welfare, etc. In four years, we will not have the US as it now exists. We must stop him NOW!
Do you want to live the next four years mounting the same gigantic effort we did on immigration last year, to prevent his doing everything he wants- Bush's twin! You can't believe anything he says to get elected.
In states yet to vote, votes could all be sent to Huck (who is NOT my choice) only to keep McCain from getting the max necessary. Then in coming months, make it clear McCain is out and we DEMAND a choice, a true conservative, to rise at the convention. If you have to hold your nose to vote- do it with a Huck vote only to stop McCain.
God can derail McCain anytime in any way; no one is promised tomorrow. Anything can happen in 9 months, even the birth of a new conservative candidate. |
Huckabee Slings Some Mud I guess it was inevitable--Mike Huckabee has advanced on a winning personality and unassailable Evangelical bona fides. Until now he hasn't been tested the way a leading candidate would be.
He's not ready.
What kind of frontrunner slings mud?
Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, asks in an upcoming article, "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"

best:
Huckabee who is putty in the hands of the evil, wicked, and diabolical Marxist Council on Foreign Relations usurpers and overthrowers of the U.S. Constitution but who might get religion and do the right thing; or McCain, who might get senile and throw the Council on Foreign Relations into derision.
:::pondering:::
(I think I'm going with the guy who might get senile)
Huckabee supporters>>> probably the low I.Q. members of the party |
You are pulling a Katie Curic PC.
To nail Huck it has to be a mess up you can sink your.
Where's the beef.
If you can't tell me in 15 seconds you lost your andy warhol time in the limelight

MaineConservative writes: Saturday, February, 09, 2008 4:16 PM Huckabee has, in my opinion, underhandedly try to attack Romney, and Mormonism continually. I even read a copy of the speech he gave at an anti-mormon convention in Salt Lake City, so I know he knows alot about Romneys beliefs, and he exploited them for political gain, which I find deplorable. ******* I have tried to find the speech as well; if possible, pls give a source.
Thanks |
I'll try and find it. Someone, I can't even remember who, showed me how to find it, but it's been a long time ago so I'll try to dig it up. |
This is Poli-Sci 101. I am just extending the same courtesy to The huskster supporters as was extended to the Romney supptorters, but go ahead and believe the illusion that he can create. No harm no foul. |
They are keeping their powder dry for both Huck and McCain. And they've got mountains of it. The facts about Huckabee's record is public, so judge for yourself. He did do many dishonorable and dishonest things as a governor and a candidate. Please don't close your eyes to the truth that Huckabee's actions are not congruent with the religious rhetoric he loves to spout for political gain. |
Where did you find the speech that Huckabee gave at that convention? I'd like to read it. |
I am sure that if Huck's mistakes were really that bad they would have focused in on one and gone nuclear on it already.
Why vote for Huckabee?
1) He looks Presidential
2) He has the poise to think on his feet
3) He is bettering himself everday that goes by
4) He is good raw matierial on what really counts
5) He will bring a winning team from Arkensas
6) He is young, multitalented and teachable
7) Potential to become the greatest president
8) His oratory skills can rally us to victory |
I hate no one. McTex already outed me as a Soros Troll so you're behind him in that accusation.
Let me tell you a few of the things about Mike Huckabee that I think are dishonorable and if you can honestly respond to them, (and I think I have an open mind and heart) I will lay off him.
Up front I will tell you I have supported Mitt Romney from the beginning.
After Romney ran contrast ads (they were respectful, but pointed out differences between the two candidate) Huckabee whined about being attacked and then produced a negative, personal ad about Romney, announced that he wasn't going to run it but played it for the media, accomplishing two things - First getting that negative message out, and second, diidn't even have to pay for it. Honorable, or dishonorable?
Huckabee asked a question of a NYT reporter with a question about mormons "Don't they believe Jesus and Satan are brothers?" Do you think he really was looking for an answer to that question? Honorable or dishonorable?
I have said before that I used to live around a lot of mormons and there is not, as a whole, a more Christian living people around, who try to live honorable and virtuous lives. I have been on the receiving end of their selfless service on many occasions and I have the utmost respect for them and their religion.
Huckabee has, in my opinion, underhandedly try to attack Romney, and Mormonism continually. I even read a copy of the speech he gave at an anti-mormon convention in Salt Lake City, so I know he knows alot about Romneys beliefs, and he exploited them for political gain, which I find deplorable.
If you think that makes me anti-conservatism in your eyes, so be it. |
now that you mention it eddie. I think the dems taking over for a while would be highly enlightening, and I'd like to help them. In the meantime we will rebuild the house that Reagan built with Romney at the helm.
Sounds good to me. Huck and McCain WILL destroy the party, just as Rush said. |
Mike Huckabee would actually be the Democrats Dream Candidate.
They will be able to peg him with the help of the MSM as an extreme religious nutcase. They will make the religious bigot and homophobic charges stick.
They will get him on the corruption charges and the little item with the gifts and the wedding registry won't help.
They will charge him with recent flip-flopping on items such as his recent changes regarding amnesty for illegals. |
Ha, ha.
Sure we want to depress the vote for McCain. He's a loser for consrvatives and so is Huck. Why do you think the MSM has such a lovefest with the both of them?
Yea, sure they're afraid of Huck! And they don't even salivate at the thought of being able to talk about fried squirrel, Wayne DuMond, wedding registries or destroyed hard drives either.
eddie, take you medication and a little nappy. You might see straight when you wake up. |
greatest fear. That is why they send their operatives like PC and arngret and Maine Conservative to post on townhall.
They desperately want the GOP to nominate McCain. Put their crap where it belongs, in the toilet!!! |
the Maine Conservatives, the arngrets among us are trying to do only one thing, depress the Republican Party's vote. They want to dispirit us so the liberal Democrat socialists might have a chance.
Vote for the true conservative Republican, Mike Huckabee. |
Exactly right. He's not called the Huckster for nothing. |
Republicans do not need your negativism, your hatred, your slander, your anti-Republicanism and your anti-conservatism.
As far as people like you are concerned, Huckabee is not better than B. Hussein Obama and Billary.
That is so patenly wrong, that we know you are either seriously brain damaged or your Democrat trolls.
In any case, no respectable Republican would give your opinions the weight of a feather. Go join your Democrat comrades. |
Mike Huckabee repulses me on every level. He is so full of himself in addition to being such a hypocrite. I despise the smooth speaking preacher tone, when behind the scenes he is a ruthless as the Clintons. Look at the record and you will also find corruption and shady actions and deals. |
I watched Huck's CPAC speech thinking maybe he'll win me back over since Romney's out.
He wants you to like him and relate to him, mentioning his growing up years, Elvis and all! This is how Democrats speak to win your heart. Red flag for me! He speaks in generalities, and what's not to shout "Amen" to? And I'm glad he's come closer to the right since his upbringing.
But where does he stand on closing Gitmo. Has he flip flopped on that idea yet? Check out his website and you won't see all the issues addressed by his critics responded to (I think it is under "Truth Squad" on bottom main page). He does address a few criticisms.
He said in a debate that he wants illegals to be here with a clear conscience. Being a Christian, I appreciate having a clear conscience, that's good Bible talk and I like that, but does that mean granting amnesty?
As Ann Coulter stated in her hilarious CPAC speech, illegals come here to have a child so they can stay. This is a huge issue. So where is Huck on this, I hope he flip flops on this issue too and means it. I really do want an alternative to McCain.
It is easier for me to see McCain as Commander in Chief of the armed forces of USA, even with his shortcomings on defense, than Huck. I realize his nomination has practically been decided. I wish I could be more pro-Huck. |
If was electing a Baptist Minister. |
You don't understand. I really, really, really heard him. I also have observed his actions. My prediction remains - even after he won the Kansas caucuses today - I will be president before Mike Huckabee |
I HEARD SOME OF THESE SIMILARS WORDS BEFORE! from Mitt's speach on religious tolerance he gave in Texas DEC. 7, 2007.
http://www.wapt.com/politics/14788890/detail.html
It amamzes me How am I supposed to just believe in what Huck says, His actions don't tell me what he preaches!
"Wow1" I saw the speech and me prediction remains. I will be president before Mike Huckabee. |
when I checked out Huckabee's record.
If it wasn't for that, I'd really like him as a candidate. Yes, he wasn't as fiscally conservative, etc., as I would have liked in Arkansas, but NONE of the major candidates was perfect, either.
Huckabee comes across as fresh, he is a great extemperaneous speaker, and I like his support of the Fair Tax and that he's at least willing to come out against illegals (better late than never) while McCain still refuses to back away from amnesty.
Look, bottom line for me - I want to stop attacking the GOP candidates because whoever wins, I'm going to vote for against Hillary. I am not enthusiastically happy about any of them. But they are all better than Hillary or Obama. |
really hear him, I mean...
Surely not many, for he is quite transparent. For those who are, perhaps some reminders:
Changed from pro-amnesty to against it in the last 60 days.
Raised enormous taxes in AK.
Shamelessly played the ugly, Anti-American card of bigotry against Romney.
Commuted 1000 criminals, at least one who went on to rape and murder, all the while ignoring the crime victim's pleas.
Said we "broke something" in Iraq.
Said we need wingtips in Iran.
Indeed, doesn't even have a foreign policy advisor and needs one more than anyone.
Rips business and plays the populist game of the dems, revealing an utter lack of knowledge or appreciation of the economy.
Actually had hard drives destroyed when he left office to hide his record.
Ethics violations a plenty.
So, Huckabee can deliver all the silly one-liners and spout all the religious platitudes he wants, it won't cover his liberal bent or his stunning lack of character.
He is the one man that is even worse than McCain, if that were possible. And he is definitely no conservative.
The CPAC leadership will not embrace Huckabee the way they embraced Romney this week, and that tells you something - even a lot.
So shall it be for both Huck and Mcvain. Both have standards to be looked at by all conservatives.
WELCOMe TO POLI-SCI 101 can you say COLUSUION!! |
I will be president before Mike Huckabee |
sorry, my mistake...I thought you actually had the decency to give Mike equal time...how wrong I was! |
