Is Iraq in Civil War?

Civil War
Pretty good post from Bryan on the subject. We call it a civil war, because another term that would accurately reflect what it really is hasn't been invented. How about a Hobbesian Nightmare?

Significance of Civil War
It is axiomatic (at least among the MSM) that the U.S. must stay out of other countries' civil wars. The reason for calling Iraq a civil war is to give us a reason to just walk away saying "a pox on both your houses." On the other hand, if you call something "ethnic cleansing" then this creates an automatic obligation for the world (particularly the U.S.) to invervene and stop the innocent bloodshed. Compare the terminology used to describe Iraq with the terminology used during the Balkan fighting.

Civil War
Yes, according to the dictionary a Civil War is, a war between opposing groups within a country. In that context two Sunni's and two Shiites fighting each other is a Civil War. Now what does that accomplish? We also have members of Al Queda waging war there, we have Iranian military and Shiite terrorists involved and certain criminal elements killing innocent civilians. Pardon me, but I don't think the problems in Iraq lend themselves to easy definitions, so we can neatly tuck them into our pockets and feel satisfied we have the answer.

We are engaged with militant Islamists fighting a religious based war of terrorism. We are in Iraq for good or ill, and we must win or else!
