Leftists Group Hopes to Disrupt Military Recruiting With National Protest
Posted by: Meredith Jessup at 3:21 PM
Tomorrow, October 6, an anti-military recruiter-bashing organization called "We are Not Your Soldiers" his staging a nationwide protest to mark the anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan.  Young school kids are being encouraged to distribute letters of protest to teachers and administration in hopes the school will disallow military recruiters' access to high school and college campuses.

When protesting, kids are also being encouraged to "assure the media are present."  The driving-force behind the protest is the anti-American Communist-founded World Can't Wait organization.
[Military recruiters] roll up in their Hummers talking about strength and discipline, about how the military will give you a “life with a purpose”. But what kind of purpose?

You can kill and torture innocent people – and probably ruin your own life because of what you’ve seen and done – for an empire that causes misery for the planet, or… you can be about putting an end to all that and creating a better world.

In the past, some of these demonstrations have even turned violent against military recruiters and recruiting stations.  Be aware of what is going on your kids' schools and be prepared to ask tough questions.  Will your child's school be participating?

To All Protesters
May I suggest you go and demonstrate about military recruiting in Iraq or Afganistan, it would make a bigger splash over there and you might get killed in the process.

Question
"The driving-force behind the protest is the anti-American Communist-founded World Can't Wait organization."

Where did you get that information? The links aren't very helpful.

Which communist founded World Can't Wait, the one who lives in Berkeley or the one who lives in New York?

The Best Of The Best,,,,
I always thought that the military was a good way to start for a young person who didn't have the means to get ahead on their own.The fact that we have a volunteer military says a lot for the young to volunteer.

In peace time they give at least four years to military service for the opportunities they get for a decent shot at life from the military. For the past eight years young Americans have been volunteering for war.

Regardless of what you think of these wars these young people are the best of the best that this country has to offer.

God Bless these young people with that kind of courage. And God Damn the politicians and the protestors who are such spineless cowards.

Lucky but Lazy Pozzo hates research:
"Which communist founded World Can't Wait, the one who lives in Berkeley or the one who lives in New York?"

World Can't Wait was formed in January 2005. Its headquarters is in New York City. It was initiated by supporters of the Revolutionary Communist Party, including Sunsara Taylor and Travis Morales.

"Of all the tyrants and oppressors in the world, there is none that has caused more untold misery and committed more screaming injustices against the people of the world than the rulers of the U.S"
~RCP

"1) The whole system we now live under is based on exploitation—here and all over the world. It is completely worthless and no basic change for the better can come about until this system is overthrown.

2) Many different groups will protest and rebel against things this system does, and these protests and rebellions should be supported and strengthened. Yet it is only those with nothing to lose but their chains who can be the backbone of a struggle to actually overthrow this system and create a new system that will put an end to exploitation and help pave the way to a whole new world.

3) Such a revolutionary struggle is possible. There is a political Party that can lead such a struggle, a political Party that speaks and acts for those with nothing to lose but their chains: The Revolutionary Communist Party, USA."
~Bob Avakian, Chairman, RCP

We will let you draw up the complete list of members even though have proven to be research challenged. You can do it while listening to the non-existent talk radio shows on NPR. How are those glowing tubes in your radio holding up? You might wish to upgrade some day.

We are proletarian internationalists. We should promote respect for the cultures and languages of oppressed peoples and equality among all nationalities.** (And especially if you are a terrorist who seeks to destroy the USA and all it stands for.)

Don't insult or ridicule other people's race or nationality, not even in jokes. **(Does this mean Bill Cosby is the black spade of his race for calling it like it is?)

Don't use your position as political leader among the masses for personal gain -- financially, to take sexual advantage, etc. (You mean like Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy, Bubba Clinton, Hilary, Soros, Moore, and the Pied Piper???)

Don't attempt to get people to support or join the Party by threatening them. Party members must use the method of persuasion and education among the masses. **(Education? ha. More like treating them stupid. No, don’t do that, just go on your blogs and talk about what crazy right wing nuts we are to believe in Liberty and Freedom!)

Freedom to be an idiot
1) There are no "kids" signing up for the military. These are men and women.

2) And who thinks that recruiters, who have served in the military, are going to be afraid to do their job as recruiters.

3) Can someone please define "imperialist" for me? If we are imperialists, what the heck was Tojo's Japan?

This is an insult to everyone who has joined the military. My son had a lot of college choices, most with scholarships, but he chose USNA. Not for the opportunity but for the opportunity to serve.

And Scep? Just because we stopped showing up doesn't mean the bad guys would follow suit. We know you're an idiot, you don't have to keep proving it.
anne writes: Monday, October, 05, 2009 7:26 PM
Hope you don't mind, Starman ...
if I jump in.

How about the recruiter's freedom of speech? Are not these protesters attempting to infringe on that?

And while I'm at it, there are freedom is speech issues every day on college campuses. Pro Life groups not being allowed to protest on campus, students getting an F on papers where the professor doesn't agree with the premise. For God's sake, last week a video was posted of someone who wasn't allowed to post a Dave Barry quote.
sceptyczny writes: Monday, October, 05, 2009 7:33 PM
Anne, you've been misinformed
"There are no "kids" signing up for the military. These are men and women." No, they are not. My friend's son was 17 and about to start his senior year when the recruiter came on campus and pushed, and pushed, and pushed. That's a child. And the recruiters take advantage of children.

"2) And who thinks that recruiters, who have served in the military, are going to be afraid to do their job as recruiters." Many are, because parents of kids like the one I described above complain. If I had a kid who was recruited like that, I'd be angry too. They are fed all kinds of lies. My friend took his son to retired Marines who convinced the kid to go to college first, and see if later he wanted to still be in the military.

"3) Can someone please define "imperialist" for me? If we are imperialists, what the heck was Tojo's Japan?"

We are not imperialists. England was when they were empire building.

"This is an insult to everyone who has joined the military. My son had a lot of college choices, most with scholarships, but he chose USNA. Not for the opportunity but for the opportunity to serve." Navy? Smart move. Not too much combat. Pretty safe. Bright kid of yours.

how about some concrete examples, not the usual list that you (like the far left) like to spew.

My kid took a class from a prof with whom he disagreed. He got an A, with a note that said "I disagree with your hypothesis, but you proved it. Keep working hard."

Most kids who think they get a bad grade because they disagree with their prof get the grade because they don't do the proper research. They just list the canards you do.

Regarding my #3 comment, I was responding to the video where America was called imperialist. I know we're not imperialists and so do you. I suggest you inform the video makers.

17 years old a kid? Well, he's a year short of being able to marry, able to make college choices. Heck, a 17 year old female can get an abortion. Are some 17 year olds younger than others? Yeah. But that doesn't mean all 17-year olds are "kids". The ones in my life aren't. They've all talked to recruiters.

And FYI, my kid is going Marines. And yes, he is bright. But better than bright, he's decent.

What's the use
What's the use to even post, the loud mouthed its unfair crowd, will chant the mantra; give peace a chance. They do not understand the sacrifice of Seadog, and once a marine always a marine, and their brothers in arms have made. They understand not what is lost. They understand not of why they serve. They see not their heart and their dignity. They see not the gaping holes in their life, service has made. away from loved ones, away from personnel goals. Tethered to the idea, chained to a goal. Noble in the pursuit, oh heck what's the use.

They understand not, what it means to have freedom lost. They think that men like Chavez, Castro, and the lot can be reasoned with, peace can be got. its when this fanciful debating gets into motion, that leaders get lost, and when backed into a corner, after reality stands clear, the men and women who serve will have to pay interest on the cost. Thank God we have them thank God there are there. they are the stop gap to the give peace a chance crowd.

Well, since your "kid" got an A, that certainly proves all teachers are open minded.

Give me a break. You asked for examples of infringement on free speech and I mentioned college campuses.

If you deny there's a problem there then there's nothing to talk about. I'm glad your "kid" hasn't had a problem but there are plenty who have, mine included.

Check Wiki--Its headquarters is in New York City. It was initiated by supporters of the Revolutionary Communist Party, including Sunsara Taylor and Travis Morales. World Can't Wait's steering committee includes a broader array of political affiliations, though members who have criticized the RCP were forbidden from attending World Can't Wait's 2008 national conference.
sceptyczny writes: Monday, October, 05, 2009 8:00 PM
well, thanks to your son for his
service.

17 year old kids should be left alone. When they are adults, no problem. At 17, my kids were finishing senior year. Recruiters should not be allowed on campus, whether for Mickey D's or the army. They should be able to advertise to the parents, via the school email or newspaper, and then let the kids and the parents decide.

I can't regulate what someone making a video says or does. The one thing this country has not done is empire build, which is why I get angry when we are the ones trying to fix Africa or the mid east when it was the imperialism of other nations that caused those problems.

We beat the Nazis and Japan in 4 years. Bush took his eye off the Afghanistan ball. Obama has to figure out how to fix what Bush broke. When people here refuse to accept that fact (and it is a fact...Bush had his eye on Iraq, and even then, didn't do that one right either until the surge), it angers me. This isn't a left/right issue. It is a negligence issue...Bush was negligent.
sceptyczny writes: Monday, October, 05, 2009 8:02 PM
no, fox mustang
not true at all. Many conservatives (Roger Hedgecock among them) want us to come home from Afghanistan. 8 years is enough.

And many do not want their children to be in a war. We have no draft now, but who knows. And I can assure you that if there is a draft, there will be huge anti-war protests. That's the only reason this war has dragged on--selective loss of children.
anne writes: Monday, October, 05, 2009 8:16 PM
Well,
I guess I should be glad that we got this far until Bush was mentioned.

Whether or not Bush was negligent has nothing to do with whether or not recruiters should be allowed on campus and if they are, whether their presence should be protested. And when the protesters are making inaccurate claims (that America fights racist wars and is imperialist), well, they don't do much for their cause.

I don't have a problem with recruiters. You do. My 17 year olds are capable of handling that type of information. Yours need to be left alone. I think I'm building a case for school choice here ...

We keep treating these kids like "just kids" and we wonder why they have such prolonged adolescence? If they are old enough for instructions on how to use a condom or to decide to have an abortion they are old enough to consider the military.

And no need to thank my son (yet); he actually hates to be in uniform in public because he hasn't done anything yet. Although the last 3 years have been grueling. But I thank you (and I'm sure he would) for the sentiment.

To quote William F. Buckley:

"Liberals say they want diversity of opinion and are flabbergasted when someone disagrees with them."

This applies to political correctness, speech codes, defining hate speech as something you disagree with, fairness doctrine for talk radio, trying to define Fox News as not news, stating there were few protesters at the "Tea Parties" etc.

Hundreds of examples exist.

I don't pray, but the First Amendment states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Notice "the free exercise thereof" clause. Kinda blows holes in your argument.

There is no wall of separation of church and state enacted into law. It was mentioned in a letter from Thomas Jefferson.

People organizeed against war isn't new
New Englanders belonging to the Federalist party motivated by economic and political interests, challenged the constitutional legitimacy of the War of 1812.
The Mexican War was challenged in the North, where interest in western expansion reinforced antislavery principles
Opposition to the Civil War in the border states and the Ohio River valley fused local economic and cultural interests with a principled defense of states' rights.
Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR, 1915) and the War Resisters League (WRL, 1921). Some, like the American Friends Service Committee (1917),
the political right supported the isolationist America First movement.
