to quote DJRoss: "Romney's adviser could be opening up the lobby world to prepare Mitt on how to avoid the pitfalls, strategies, snares, etc of entrenched D.C. interests".
Are you serious? You think that a lobbyist signs up to help Romney's campaign (in any capacity) and doesn't expect something in return? DJRoss must be living at the end of the rainbow because in this city and in this business everything comes back to #1 and i highly doubt any of the names on Romney's K Street Endorsement are supporting him because he's a nice guy. They want influence with the next President.
I agree that Glen Johnson's tact was anything but professional but good for Glen to call Romney out on false claims. |
at this for what it is?
Romney does not have lobbyists running, managing or leading his campaign. Now he admits readily with no hesitation that he has a long time friend who is a lobbyist as an adviser. Mitt has been consistent on running on a platform that he was not beholden to Washington interest AKA Lobbyist. So understanding the he is running as a Washington Outsider, helps us to understand why he might have an adviser on his staff that has been or is currently a lobbyist.
To understand the shark tank one usually enlists the aid of a shark expert. Romney's adviser could be opening up the lobby world to prepare Mitt on how to avoid the pitfalls, strategies, snares, etc of entrenched D.C. interests. It would be prudent to consult with one of the initiated in order to understand the language of Washington Politics and enable Romney to prepare a counter to this to maintain his stance as an outsider.
Some are giving Kudos to Glen for going after Romney and not cow towing to those that would thwart free speech. This is a reactionary rhetoric that has nothing to do with this situation. Romney not only allowed Glen to ask his question, but engaged in a discussion with him answering several follow ups as Glen unsuccessfully chased after a rabbit that wasn't there. Most politicians would have answered the first time and than continued speaking ignoring the man on the floor. They would not have engaged in any discussion. They would not have tolerated what looks like a younger (inexperienced) AP reporter calling them a liar several times during a press op.
For those that wear their emotions on their sleeves. Get over your personal bias. You may not like Romney, but to allow your bias to see this situation as Romney being disingenuous, lying or lacking the cool to handle running the White House is weak sauce.

Wow, I've wondered about Glen Johnson since reading his disgusting little Hillay love-fest article. Now to finally see him!! What a chubby little fruitcake, exactly the kind of guy that got beat up in high school and actually deserved every bit of it. Now wonder he's so hostile and wants to run and hide under Hillary's iron apron. |
Romney was rudely interupted by Humpty dumpty sitting on the floor. Anyone who has done public speaking knows how anoying this can be thus the "frazzled" which I would call "irritated". Romney NEVER denied having lobbiest in his campaign and even used the term "good friend" for one of them (shocking). The whole issue was about senior advisors in the campaign.
Finnally - if anyone of the canidates is less likely to be "bought and payed for" by lobbiest - it's Romney. Use a little logic folks. |
If Mitt is Anti-Lobbiest Like he claims, Why does he have one on his campaign? I know Mitt is a Liar! He is Big Business therefore he hires lobbiest to do his bidding. This is really a no Brainer folks! This is the American Way for Goodness Sake. We even have Homeschool Lobbiest doing work for Florida Homeschoolers. So why is Mitt lying about this? |
Bye bye Huck. After he loses SC by 10 points he will slip out of FL contention. No other state will support him except maybe Arkansas and a few other irrelevent states.
Now, we may get a liberal like McCain, but if he had to talk to the Iranians his opening line wouldn't be, "Have you accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior?"
I am interested to see how McCain will do in states were liberals and independents are not allowed in the caucuses. He will still be a force; just a force by half.
Get your legs Fred or get out. I think Thompson supports McCain after he is run out of SC and FL. Too bad, I have always admired the man's politics and he will probably ruin it so he can stay a part of the GOB club. |
The guy may not be "running the campaign" but why is he associated with Romney at all? Because Romney is bought and payed for just like all the other candidates from the two main parties. That's politics in the US. It's happened because voters let it happen and continue to let it happen by continuing to vote for Republicans and Democrats.
Now I'll be the first to agree that AP "reporters" would never dare to challenge Hillary or Obama in the same fashion. However that's an entirely different issue and doesn't mean that Romney isn't associated with a lobbyist. |
As usual... anything about Mitt vs the Media is de out by the MSM and the Romney Haters as another example of his ability to manage and to lead... Good leaders take information and advise from several sides of any issue... that does not make them bad, paid for, or anything else... It makes them smart on the issue and better able to make decisions (that make sense)....
As far as the Reporter is concerned.... I wouldn't give you a dime for the accuracy of any information coming out of them.... One thing I know is that if they talk bad about something, it is usually about a position or a person that I would like and support.... If on the other hand, they talk good about something it is usually about a person or position that I wouldn't support...
I have to admit that I am a little bit of an nn Coulter fan and she made this point in an article that she wrote yesterday entitled "Elephant in the Room"... If any of you guys like her stiuff you might want to give it a read.... at the very least it's entertaining.... |

I am sorry but here is a list of lobbyist working for Mitt
One of them, Ron Kaufman, chairman of Washington-based Dutko Worldwide, regularly sits across the aisle from Romney on his campaign plane, participates in debate strategy sessions and just last week accompanied Romney to a lunch in Myrtle Beach with Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C.
Another adviser, former Rep. Vin Weber, R-Minn., is chairman of Romney's policy committee. He also is chief executive officer of Clark & Weinstock, and his corporate biography says he "provides strategic advice to institutions with matters before the legislative and executive branches of the federal government."
A third adviser, former Sen. Jim Talent of Missouri, who was at Romney's victory party in Michigan on Tuesday, is co-chairman of Fleishman-Hillard Government Relations and also is a registered lobbyist, according to federal records compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics.
So is he free from lobbyists like he claims.

...of too much of the media. When a lady questions him...well, he just shrugs her away. Elitist jerk! I hope people remember next time they read any article and thin of objectivity and actual reporting. He's creating the news not reporting it. Goodness I can't abide crap like that. If anything, it's a boon for Romney. He handled himself well...whether you like him or not. |
Good for Mitt,....He'll clean McShamnestys' clock! Go Mitt go! |
McCain has a lobbyist as his campaign manager, Mitt does not. Does Mitt have friends and advisers that are lobbyists? Yes - and he did not deny that.
So you have a guy that has been in Washington for years with a campaign manager that has been a lobbyist in D.C. for years. They are both a large reason that Americans have a low opinion of Congress. There are only three candidates in the race that haven't been part of the problem of runaway spending and support for illegal immigration - Mitt, Rudy and Huck. Fred almost gets a pass but he only has Senate and acting experience to go on. The only choices are then Mitt and Rudy (Huck is not electable in the general election) - that is probably what it will winnow down to in a few weeks. |
talk about hot under the collar - I thought he was going to poke the guy asking him about the Nevada lawsuit - just like he poked Chris Wallace - contrast that with the professional, yet firm way Mitt handled Johnson. |
Ron Kaufman, a lobbyist for Dutko Worldwide, told the Boston Herald that they should refer to him as “senior campaign adviser Ron Kaufman."
http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/news/presidential_briefin g/?p=188
Bottom line: in this instance, Romney was trying to show that he's not connected to lobbyists. While he may not have one in the highest position on his campaign, his campaign has substantial connections to lobbyists (just like McCain, Hillary, Obama, Giuliani, and practically every other major candidate in both parties). However rude the reporter was, he brings up a valid point.
Barbara Comstock, another prominent consultant to Romney, is also a Washington lobbyist.
As a result of his confrontation, the slob on the floor helped Mitt get the message out on McCain's staff being lobbyist heavy. Thanks, bud. |
Once again, the real Mitt comes out, and he is unfailingly decent.
Remember this from the summer? Jan Mickelson interview with Romney
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-G9hydflwEQ&feature=related
GO ROMNEY! |
I think he handled it without getting snarky - I know both Huck and McCain would have been pretty hot headed if someone lit into them like that.
Loved the directness - "yes he is an adviser, and a friend - but he is not running the campaign" - he even told the guy who was running the campaign - what is Johnson's problem? Maybe he is used to the parsing that HRC and others do and thought Mitt did not mean what he said. Rude and ugly - and unprofessional. |
Only one candidate consistently gets the conservative vote...Mitt Romney. McCain will take SC and Mitt will take Nevada which has even more delegates. Fred will get 4th and drop out. No Fredhead would ever vote for a liberal like Huckabee or Thompson. Mitt will sweep every state after that. Go Mitt! |
leftist's, socialist's scum merchants. Hugo Chavez is to the right of these Jim Dandy's. No Republican should give these guy's the time of day because they have no intention of being fair or balanced. 35 years ago, they were all members of "The Symbianese Liberation Army". "Left", doesn't come close to describing these nut cases. Pay no attention to "sarah", she's well known and if she ever had any objectivity, it has long since departed this gal. |
Glen Johnson looks like Michael Moore. He even has the "lazy slob" shtick down pat, sitting there with his feet up. What a tool! |
a great indication that he is our guy! |
Don't you just love reporters who want to BE the story instead of report the story? Romney handled it well and didn't dodge; he did it better than most of the Washington pros, I'd wager.
I used to Like Mike until he showed his true colors--I'm not looking for a new Sunday School teacher to rouse his minions against everyone who doesn't believe like they do (which is a heck of a lot of people.) Mitt is looking better and better to me all the time--fiscally conservative and maybe he'll have Tom Tancredo be his Homeland Security chief and our borders will actually get sealed. And now he's shown he's got manners, too.
I just finished showing this to my pre-teens -- they loved it! (That lady is my new hero! I wished she had an umbrella with her to really get her point across...) |
Sarah, are you saying it's worse to have a successful businessman in the White House than a career politician?
I've always wondered how those career politicians who make around $150,000 a year, become multi-millionaires while "serving the public."
I would love to trace all of the money that has been given to the Clinton crime family.
Ten million from the Saudis, George Soros, Cattle Futures...

Romney impresses again.
Some fire in the race...
Such fun, and easy to see, who the libs believe is a threat. |
...I took a 3 year break from debating people, because no matter how well you argue they won't learn, but here goes Sarah.
"other candidates don't act like victims" EXCUSE ME!! McCain and Huckabee are the biggest complainers in the Republican field, ooh Romney has attack ads, he has more money, and its just not fair. They have complained every step of the campaign. Their portraying themselves the victims of attack ads is the worst, this is politics! Romney isn't playing the victim on this, he stood up to that idiot. Your blind hatred of Romney is so obvious because of the worst stuff the others do that you ignore.
"The myth that Mitt is a victim of all those who are in media" NOT A MYTH! If you run the numbers of MSM articles attacking canidates Romney has withstood vastly more than McCain and Huckabee precisely because they want the latter two as the easy kill canidates.
"I was not looking for credibility, just sharing my opinion" Your opinion is meaningless in terms of convincing others if you have no credibility. And don't worry, you didn't find any credibility. |
we need to see more of. In control, firm and succinct. And to do that with a Glenn Johnson who looks and acts like Michael Moore. There is no downside for Mitt to act like the adult among children. Besides, America hates snarky media types like Johnson. "Act professional" doesn't quite get to the heart of the problem. "Grow up" is more apropos. |
I like Mitt because he's not clouded with scandal. Compare his past with anybody on either side of the isle...especially Hillary!
Because of that, maybe people will just listen to his ideas instead of the liberal mantra of republican corruption....what a concept!
Besides...would that AP-monkey ask Hillary, Obama, Edwards, or even McShame about their ties to lobbyists?

Anyone know how to contact his reporter so we can all tell him he's rude and ugly? |
you're an elitist idiot. because someone supports a different candidate, they're immediately bought and paid for?
If you had any objectivity, you would view this for what it was, a reporter who was out of line interrupting a candidate during a speech. he had a laptop, he was taking notes, why not quesiton him when he was done?
And since when is it fashionable to hate someone for being successful? His wealth disqualifies him? Go back to the Kos |
I'm just calling it like it is.
very few reporters on the campaign trail openly provoking fights with the candidates. Glen Johnson is a pant load and was out of line, if he has an issue with Romney, he should take notes and bring it up after the stump. No professionalism |
in another blog. This is classic Romniac syndrom for which we will all be soon saved from on Feb. 5th. |
act like victims, because they are more presidential. The myth that Mitt is a victim of all those who are in media and those who question his religion and record - is exactly why he is perceived as a pretty rich boy without any backbone to take the pressure that come with the position of president/commander in chief (without the cruch of a lawyer). Again, this annoying candidate will soon be taken out of his misery Feb. 5th. I was not looking for credibility, just sharing my opinion because Romniacs are so annoying to the rest of us who support candidates other than Mitt or should I say those whose votes are not for sale. |
I don't like Mitt...
But that lady was funny!
That's a SOUTHERN MOM right there ladies and gentleman!!
Good for her! |
I don't think he called you a hater. I think he called you brainless... |
not having another rich republican businessman in the whitehouse, plus all the other ideological changes that exist between republicans and democrats. Only in Mitt's case the ideological difference is blurred because he has already implemented the healthcare plan being used by Obama and Hillary in their campaigns, has funded planned parenthood, has spoken about destroying embroys for research, will increase fees and not taxes to cover mandatory health care, will make sure that jobs in michigan are restored (never mind he became a millionaire cutting jobs to make companies profitable), and bring competent people to capital hill to run a big govt. Is Mitt the conservative candidate for republicans? |
You just imploded whatever credibility you may have had as being even remotely objective. You put any other Republican canidate in that argument, even McCain, and I would have still come out on their side because the reporter was completely out of line and unprofessional. |
No one is above questioning. But when he answers the question, several times, succinctly -- notice he didn't even avoid the question like many polis do -- the guy has no professionalism whatsoever to sit there trying to pick a fight.
It doesn't matter to brainless Sarah how Romney handles anything. She just chants, "Romney bad! Romney bad!" like some spaced-out cretin.
"You're rude and you're ugly" HAHA!! A great description of the MSM. |
Romney handled the reporter just fine. How would you have had him handle it differently? |
I consider myself to be very neutral in terms of the candidates and to an extent--the parties they are affiliated with. While I dislike a lot of the backbiting that goes on during election years, I find the blanket coverage provided by the cable networks very interesting and for the most part very professional.
Yet, it makes me wonder how many times the candidates have to deal with amatures like the reporter in this clip. I have been very impressed with the way the Romney runs his campaign and his track record.
While I doubt he will take South Carolina, I believe that coverage like this and how he handled this guy are going to help him in the long run. His business and leadership skills have been touted--yet I think we are starting to see how he can handle the press and think on his feet. As a fan of two or three other candidates--I cringe to think how they would have responded in this situation. |
The guy looked like a total moran parsing words while sprawled out on the floor. I am sorry Mitt Romney was not specific enough for Glen that he did not have lobbyist running his campaign. Would it have been better if he said, "I do not have lobbyist running my campaign in the highest levels?" How would that make his orginal point that he finally got to which was that he does not owe lobbyists anything?!! Give it up!
Then no one even questions what "CHANGE" Barak Obama or Hillary Clinton wants to make. They are allowed to be as broad and general as they want? Come on. |
Any reporter who does not understand that Romney's Record or campaign is unquestionable can not be trusted as a reporter, period. Mitt is unable to handle a reporter but he will handle the pressure he will receive in capital hill from jihadists, special interest groups, and a strong democratic congress? Well then, hail to commader of pandering because he is not presidential in his response to an inquiry about lobbysts funding his campaign. |
These AP a-clowns' arrogance is unbelievable. I glad to see the lady put him in his place. This guy thinks it's all about him... |
My son lives in MA and received his increased assessment for Med. Ins under the Romney Plan. Under the plan, Ins. companies assess what they feel you "can Afford". For my son and a family of four it jumped from $600 to $1000. There is no choice or options, it is based on the ability to pay as the Ins. Companies see it. Edwards asked a good question of Hillary and Obama when he noted that they both receive huge contributions from the Ins. Companies. What do they expect for the money? This is the US. We should have a choice. Mandatory just rubs me the wrong way. |
posing as columnists. Can't wait to see his next column. Good for Mitt....why does AP even have lackeys like that. |
