Barack Claims He Wanted to Join the Military
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 8:04 PM
Somehow, he left it out of his two memoirs, but this morning, Barack told George Stephanopoulos that he really thought about joining the military, but chose not to because we weren't in a war at the time.

Sorry.  I don't believe it.  I've had some good things to say about the Barack Obama I knew. But no way, no how is this true.  Barack and the people who surrounded him were hardly the types to have any sympathy with or interest in the military.  They were the type who supported the ban on ROTC at Harvard and other Ivy League schools and were happily anti-military because of the military's ban on gays.

What's more, the presence or absence of military conflict is irrelevant to many of the people who join ROTC.  Many did so during peacetime as a way to pay for their educations -- like one of my roommates at Princeton.  If Barack had had any inclination to serve in the military in even a limited capacity, of course, this option might have helped defray some of the cost of those student loans that his wife keeps discussing.

Sounds familiar.
Did he go to the same recruiting office where Hillary "tried to join the Marines"? An attempt to served for which there is NO record or proof?

Obama is Muslim
Did anyone hear him tell George Steph that he is Muslim in his interview?

If George did not interupt him it would have provided us with a lot more insight but George stop him

I didn't just think, I did!!
I am so tired of hearing politicians, actors and colleagues (I teach at a major university) who after 9/11 claim that they thought about joining the service (remember Hillary made the same claim). They think they are connecting with vets, but all they are doing is degrading my time and the time of my fellow vets.

In 1973, I DID raise my hand and swear to defend the United States. By doing so, I became pariah among my old HS friends and some members of my family. But I DID and then served 20 years.

So, please don't tell me you thought about it. I am not that stupid. As Jack Nicholson said, either take a position on the wall (one of assignments was CAV on German Border) or get out of the way.

I wanted to join the military....
...oh wait...I did join the military. There for a moment I thought I was having an Obamacination.

I wanted to....
I wanted to win the lottery. But I didn't.

This is the lamest statement I've ever seen Barack (Ted Baxter) Obama make. And THAT's saying something
londongrl writes: Monday, September, 08, 2008 12:41 AM
Anyone can say that.
It sounds better than " I just didn't want to."
I'm a veteran and I don't begrudge someone not wanting to join the military. It's not for everyone. But at least be honest about it.

Stupid
Why did Obama even bring this issue up. It is so dumb. He just should have said that that was not the path I chose in live like 95% of the rest of the population. Hey I joined the reserves in 1990 because they would pay for school. If I had the money I probably would have thought twice. It was a great experience and the six months I took off in the gulf I will rem forever but I would never ever begrudge anyone for not making that committment.

Obama should have just told the truth. He wasn't interested. This reminds me of when Romney said in a debate that he wished he had been in the military.

In the end they are just envious of McCain's hero status, but I am sure sitting in that Vietnam hole for 5 years McCin probably wasn't thinking "this will look good on my political resume". He was probably thinking "Geez why couldn't I have just gone to dental school".

arb is correct
I just looked up the info, and arb's facts are quite correct. There was no selective service requirement in 1979. It is possible that he simply meant that he had to sign up in 1980 when Carter reinstated it, so I suppose this doesn't qualify as the biggest fib he's told. Still, these things are mounting.

Belly laughs!
I want so much to comment on this in an intelligent and rational matter but I just can't stop laughing! Given Obama's propensity to throw people of his acquaintance under the bus at a moments notice how long would it take him to give up everything he knows to the enemy should he be captured. This is way too funny!
arb writes: Sunday, September, 07, 2008 9:31 PM
Selective memory
FTA: ""You know, I actually did. I had to sign up for Selective Service [a means of conscription in case of war] when I graduated from high school....
And I actually always thought of the military as an ennobling and, you know, honourable option. But keep in mind that I graduated in 1979."

The Selective Service was terminated by President Ford in 1975. It was reinstated by President Carter in 1980. There WAS no Selective Service in 1979.

HOW do you stop LAUGHING ?

excuse me:

HOW IN THE WORLD do you stop laughing :::

WHENEVER obama opens his mouth : he empties what little is left in his brain:

NOTHING THERE:

giggle, he cannot believe that we will be smoked by that one::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Just for the record
Carol Platt Liebau actually knows Barack Obama from his Harvard days and their days together on--someone correct me if I'm wrong here--the Harvard Law Review. She's got more credibility than most in speculating on what he actually valued and believed during his college days.

If the Black Panthers ran the military
then Barack would have joined.

'Leftenant' Obama
Oh, sure. The thin shouldred recruit, or 'pork-chop paygrade.' 'Commander Organizer', if you will.

In law schools, the military offers opportunities at commissions to each class. Immediate entry to Staff Advocate or Judge Advocate or even DOJ as special prosecutors on dope in DC.

He just doesn't fit the grade and likely couldn't have passed the pee test.

The closest Sen. Obama intellectually ever got to a Chevron was when he visted a gas station in California.

THE "FLAGS" scared him off:

SUPER supreme executive:::::::: of his billion dollar 2 year campaign enterprise

dumped thousands of USA flags into the dumpster:

SUPER EXECUTIVE is liable for all of the actions and assets of his billion dollar enterprise:
