Sarah Palin Hits Obama on Ties to Terrorist Ayers
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 8:17 PM

Kudos to Sarah Palin for calling out Obama on his close connection to a domestic terrorist who used to blow up buildings --a man who still doesn't regret it
 ...

"Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin on Saturday accused Democrat Barack Obama of "palling around with terrorists" because of an association with a former '60s radical, stepping up an effort to portray Obama as unacceptable to American voters.

Palin's reference was to Bill Ayers, one of the founders of the group the Weather Underground. Its members took credit for bombings, including nonfatal explosions at the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol, during the Vietnam War era."

We've got about thirty days left until Election Day.  If voters know the truth about Obama's friendship with Ayers -- and still elect him -- we will have to live with that.  But I suspect that most voters have no idea exactly how bad Ayers is, nor do they realize just how close he is to Obama.  This, of course, is exactly why the McCain campaign must do a better job of informing the public of this fact.

By bringing it up on the campaign trail, Palin is playing a traditional role of the vice presidential nominee -- becoming the so-called "attack dog".  If McCain is going to have a chance to win this race, he will need to take the gloves off -- or at least -- empower Palin to do so ...

McCain
I hope this week that the McCain people will hammer home about all of Obamas close ties to all of the thugs he has been associated with. McCain needs to stop being so passive and et Palin go back into Michigan.

Ya gotta hope...
... that McCain has been saving this material for Oct. There are MOUNTAINS of ammunition (figuratively speaking of course), waiting to be used against TheOne.

Take the gloves off. Bring it all out and USE it.

Got nothing to lose at this point and the American public at least needs to make an informed choice in Nov. It would be sad indeed if McCain decided to take the high ground and people were left ignorant of the clear and present danger they just voted into The Oval Office.

Bravo Company.
Excellent Gov. Palin. Let us declare and denounce them.

Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin need to use the flame thrower and the phosphorus bomb. They must in tandem and when apart draw the contrast between themselves and the radical Sen. Obama.

It is insanity to allow anyone to avoid the consequence of their life's associations.

As written by Shakespeare, "A friend should bear his friend's infirmities."

Sen. McCain must come out in public and the next debate not only with energized passion but with a prosecutor’s righteous indignation.

Not the shrill prosecutor, McCain must be the "j'accuse" interrogator that demands Sen. Obama explain how he dares present himself and his economic promises to the American public at this time.

How are you prepared to serve this country with your experience Senator Obama?
What is the cloth that clothes you in such garb of state that you can stride into such a place and do such a job?

Who are you Senator Obama?
Who are your friends?
Where were you on Iraq?
Where are you on Iran? etc.
No quarter, no comfort.
No allowance for trite shibboleth responses.

Then, coup de gras in the debate.
Sen. McCain must demand that Sen. Obama answer some inquiry that goes to national security that Sen. Obama does not, will not, have the answer to.

I won't lay it out here but there are tens of hundreds of sophisticated queries on military and geo-political issues that will throw the junior Senator from Illinois ... and these questions are relevant to Iran, the Pacific, Russia, NATO, etc.

We must take the lash to Sen. Obama. His hide is thin. His base of knowledge precariously hinged on the prefab and the rehearsed.

Let's get tough Sen. McCain.

After all, Shakespeare also reminds us that "The band that seems to tie their friendship together will be the very strangler of their amity."

I was at Home Depot Center Today
It was great!! She hit him hard, I hope she keeps it up. About 12 to 15,000 at the Carson, CA rally.--12,000 seats and the field was packed and people were standing all over. Words cannot describe the energy and excitement in that place. There were 20-40 Obama cultists, (OUTSIDE) they were so angry! We just laughed and went on our way. While we were waiting in line,, they would start screaming we would just drown them out with our USA USA USA or McCAIN McCAIN. What really got them was SARAH SARAH SARAH SARAH. Some one tried to interrupt the rally, and was drowned out while being removed. Sarah just laughed and said: “My son is in Iraq, fighting for their right to free speech.” Cheers everywhere. I got a McCain/Palin RED shirt, and a bumper sticker that says “Don’t mess with Sarah!” Think how many people they would have had if they had just given a little notice! A friend of my daughter heard it on the Radio, and called to tell her. We got dressed, jumped in the car, and rushed over there, the line was forever???? Luckily my daughter had just bought me a car, with a new wheelchair, and wheelchair lift, or I would never have been able to go.

Get the truth out...
Please get the truth out before it is too late. It is about time Americans take a stand against the media's lack of coverage on issues like these. Why hasn't the CNN's, NBC/MSNBC's, CBS's put forth these questions and pursued the answers? The TV news reporters have to be miserable since they have failed the American people with their ignorance of such questions and answers about a possible future leader of this great country. The NYT and WSJ were brave enough to broach the Ayers connection.

Would someone in the tv/cable media please ask the tough questions and get the answers to the American people before it is too late.

How are you prepared to serve this country with your experience Senator Obama?
What is the cloth that clothes you in such garb of state that you can stride into such a place and do such a job?

Good lord, people.

It's a little scary how willing you all are to hate Barack Obama. I understand disliking him. I understand being frustrated that the poll numbers are what they are...but there is clearly hatred here.

Did you ever think that perhaps this attitude is why McCain's losing ground. Give me reasons to vote for McCain. Don't tell me I'm a terrorist if I don't.

Bob Munck writes: Saturday, October, 04, 2008 9:48 PM
Good Picture of Ayers
Note that Obama doesn't appear in it, in large part because he was seven years old at the time (and living in Jakarta).

From the WSJ and NYT: '[T]he two men do not appear to have been close. Nor has Mr. Obama ever expressed sympathy for the radical views and actions of Mr. Ayers, whom he has called "somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8."'

So go ahead, push this for all you're worth. McCain falls on his face yet again.

And let's ask McCain about guilt by association. He's beeen in Washington forever, he must have worked near some shady people. Or been in an office with them. Or seen them.

Hugh won't let you folk inside the TH bubble know, but Obama is hitting 50 percent across the polling spectrum which means that America wants CHANGE not HATE. Palin only energizes the rabid fundy haters.

The GOP party is now the party of FEAR and IGNORANCE.
Bryan  writes: Saturday, October, 04, 2008 10:08 PM
This is NOT Reagan's GOP

No, Darrell...she's not "in it to win it". *sigh*

She's in the nascent stages of her national career and she's calling American senators terrorists. That may help with the base, but McCain ALREADY has the base. The base was going nowhere. They certainly weren't going to vote for Obama.

Instead of hate-mongering, she should be talking about how she and Todd have the LEAST money of all the candidates, and how they understand what Americans are going through. She should be pushing her "washington outsider" story, sitting down with people -- democrats and republicans and making personal connections.

Ronald Reagan was called "The Great Communicator". I'm a left-leaning independent and I still watch his speeches and enjoy them.

At this point, I'm most likely voting for Obama...but I could be swayed. Not by this Ayers nonsense, but from an ACTUAL plan from the McCain ticket that addresses the problems facing the nation.

That's how you win it, not by driving a wedge between the left and the right, but by leading the left and the right and remembering that both are America.

I don't think Sarah Palin is a bad person. I hope she's not letting this desperate tactic turn her into one.

Thanks for reading.

About Rev. Wright
He's difficult to stomach for sure. He reminds me of the less-talented, opportunistic "preachers" that attached themselves to the assassination of King, and uses his blood to fuel their ambition.

(I'm only 31, LOL. This is from my personal research, not from being there...to clarify)

To me, what Obama is guilty of with Wright is ignoring a man's flaws because he's kind to you. I've done that. I've been mentored by bigots who would call other African-Americans slurs while praising my "difference". I looked past their flaws because of their kindness to me, but that didn't change the hatred they spewed into the world.

I don't see traces of hatred coming from Obama. I don't see any anger towards "white America", in fact I've never heard him describe America that way.

I CAN understand why Wright would be a deal breaker for some people...but not Ayers. He was eight years old. That's just a ludicrous posture on the part of Tucker Bounds and Co.

Thanks for reading

I don't believe I've accused anyone of hating Obama. I do think that the ongoing attempts at guilt by association will come a cropper; politicians associate with a great many people, some of whom are often crooks of one type or another. Also, the Rezko, Wright, Ayers accusations are old news; they didn't work for Clinton and they're just warmed-over thin gruel now.

Accusing Palin's daughter of having a Down Syndrome baby is desperate. Accusing a woman of being a bad parent because she pursues a career AND a family is desperate. Accusing a P.O.W. of not being able to use a computer is desperate.

Even Hillary Clinton brought up the Ayers connection. This is fair game. No one has accused Obama of being a terrorist. But Obama's associations are fair game. Love it, learn it, live it.

The haters are on the left, as demonstrated by their constant attacks on Sarah Palin. Make no mistake about it.

I grew up in a very left leaning household, I'll admit. I do usually vote democratic, but my mind is still open. I don't think George Bush is nearly as bad as people say he is. I've met him and he was very sincere. I admire Ronald Reagan very much and I study his speeches often. I also admire Robert F. Kennedy, so you have me there.

I suppose I'm a liberal with social issues, but I'm more of a fiscal conservative. I was also all for the elimination of Saddam Hussein. Despite the current state of Iraq, we're a better world without him.

I come here not to start fights but to better understand the conservative point of view. I don't know many self-styled conservatives in daily life and I think it's easier to have frank discussions under the veil of the internet rather than in person where we tend to avoid confrontation.

But I'll take the "lib" label. Fair enough.

So why should I change my mind? Convince me.

Thanks.

We have photographs of Donald Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam Hussein.

Even worse, his company sold chemical weapons to Saddam.

That didn't stop Bush from appointing him to Secretary of Defense.

But you guys could be on to something.

Perhaps if Republicans had paid attention to the fact that Rumsfeld was at one time making arms deals with an authoritarian dictator he wouldn't have been appointed.

Oh, but that's right, Saddam was "our" terrorist during the Iran/Iraq war.

Does an "A" appear on your screen? If so, press the "Caps Lock" once again. If a presidential candidate has a racist, anti-American pastor for 20 years, it should be fair game. Dumping this pastor ONLY after this association was revealed to the American people at large should concern people. Having a working relationship/friendship with radical terrorists should concern Americans. And having dubious dealings with a convicted felon/con artist/fundraiser should concern Americans. Obama should be judged by the company he keeps.

Sean Hannity Pals With Racists
Or perhaps you've forgotten his buddy:

This year a man named Hal Turner sat before his computer at his suburban home in North Bergen, New Jersey, posting bomb-making tips on his website, hailing the firebombing of an apartment containing "Savage Negroes" and calling for the murder of immigrants. "When enough illegal aliens get killed they will stop coming to the country!" Turner wrote.

Turner was once a prominent activist in New Jersey's Republican Party. To area conservatives, he was best known by his moniker for call-ins to the Sean Hannity Show, "Hal from North Bergen." For years, Hannity offered his top-rated radio show as a regular forum for Turner's occasionally racist, always over-the-top rants. Hannity also chatted with him off-air, allegedly offering encouragement to Turner as he struggled to overcome a cocaine habit and homosexual leanings. Turner has boasted that Hannity once invited Turner and his son on to the set of Fox News's Hannity and Colmes. Today, Turner lurks on the fringes of the far right, spouting hate-laced tirades on his webcast radio show. Hannity, meanwhile, remains mum about his former alliance with the neo-Nazi, homing in instead on the supposed racism of black and Latino Democrats.

What is your point?

How does some having someone call your radio show who is a racist make you a racist?

It doesn't make Hannity a racist, but if and this is a big if and not by any means proved, if Hannity did encourage this idiot, it makes Hannity's judgement suspect.

It is moronic to think that racism is dead in America. More moronic to think that it can be legislated away.

However what is true is that Bill Ayers was a founder of the Weather Underground (as was his wife) and that he and Obama have been associates, fellow board members for a far-left organization, and personal friends for a long time.

Does this make Obama a terrorist? No, but does it call into question his judgement, of course it does? Unless you too are a communist, then of course you believe that any tactic is fair as long as in the end, you have power over free people like me.

The problem with posters like you, is that you share the Democratic inability to look at both sides of an issue, and test it for truth. The truth is meaningless to Obama and Biden and the rest of the leadership of the Democratic Party.

You, have just shown that you too are not interested in the truth and have little connection with reality.

KEATING 5 - MSNBC SHOULD DO A SPECIAL
This would be perfect timing during an economic crisis.

McCain was one of the "Keating Five," congressmen investigated on ethics charges for strenuously helping convicted racketeer Charles Keating after he gave them large campaign contributions and vacation trips.
Charles Keating was convicted of racketeering and fraud in both state and federal court after his Lincoln Savings & Loan collapsed, costing the taxpayers $3.4 billion. His convictions were overturned on technicalities; for example, the federal conviction was overturned because jurors had heard about his state conviction, and his state charges because Judge Lance Ito (yes, that judge) screwed up jury instructions. Neither court cleared him, and he faces new trials in both courts.)

Though he was not convicted of anything, McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating after Keating gave McCain at least $112,00 in contributions. In the mid-1980s, McCain made at least 9 trips on Keating's airplanes, and 3 of those were to Keating's luxurious retreat in the Bahamas. McCain's wife and father-in-law also were the largest investors (at $350,000) in a Keating shopping center; the Phoenix New Times called it a "sweetheart deal."

I see your point about knowing things from reading blog posts, but to be honest...I don't feel comfortable at Republican rallies. At least, not the ones here in Missouri, so I don't get to listen to all the speeches.

A lot of my friends think and say that "Republicans/Conservatives are intolerant, hateful, greedy, etc." but they don't ACTUALLY KNOW any republicans so it's just prejudicial assumptions based on watching a couple of Bill O' Reilly clips on You Tube.

I'm not ready to just turn my back on half the nation without taking steps to understand their position. As I've admitted before...fiscally I understand the conservative ideals of smaller government (although I do think there should be regulation). My splits are the facts that I'm pro choice, gay tolerant, and I firmly believe that we have to maintain the separation of church and state.

But I am reading and listening.

Thanks.

For the record I don't dislike Sarah Palin. I would like to see her interact with people more away from the podium and the prepared statements.

I'd LOVE to see her at a town hall style session, answering questions. Governance doesn't require that you know a litany of American history, and Katie Couric would make me nervous too (but I do like Katie). I give that a pass.

I felt like after getting slimed for a week in the press, she deserved the right to not answer a couple of debate questions and make her own introduction to America.

Now I am a little wary of Gov. Palin culturally, simply because there aren't that many minorities in Alaska and I'm black, LOL. I know it's silly, but it's something I think about. You'll have to forgive me for that.

Palin and McCain did conduct a town hall style session a few weeks ago in Michigan. I watched it online. Palin was fairly new to the campaign at that time so she shared questions with McCain. I do agree that she should do more of them.

I wouldn't be wary of Palin on the culture front. I haven't detected or read any evidence that she is not sensitive to issues of race. If anything, Obama has used race as an issue, which I find quite appalling. Democrats have launched many bombs at Palin and McCain, but I think we can all agree that racism or issues with race are not among them. And I see no reason or evidence that they would not be sensitive to the concerns of all Americans.

to Willt...
I think town halls are the best format. After watching soooo many podium debates, I'm frankly sick of seeing people reading talking points instead of answering questions.

I do think that Obama SHOULD have done the town halls with McCain. I'm hoping that McCain challenges him to some more this month and we'll get one.

And I'm 99.9% sure that Gov. Palin is a fair woman. Alaska just seems so...remote to me. People here in St. Louis said that she was really pleasant while she was here, to both democrats and republicans.

Personally, I think McCain's missing an opportunity to make HER a unifying figure and take that mantle from Obama. She's unknown so there's no reason to look at her like a partisan, but McCain's campaign is using her as an attack dog...and that undermines her best qualities.

It looks like John McCain is frustrated, and I hope he gets that under control at his resort this weekend and for the next 31 days we can see the VERY BEST these two tickets have to offer.

And with that...I'm off to bed. Sincere thanks to everyone who read and responded to my posts. I certainly read yours. I appreciate the time and candor, especially since I'm not one of the "family".

But McCain can still get me. I just need to see more solutions and less accusations.

Cheers,

TERRORIST ACT ON WALL STREET
I'm a Canadian who is now legally living here in the United States. I have followed the Democratic and Republican partys for the past seven years. Now hear this the United States is suppose to be we the people not we the goverment.
Why do we the people want the goverment to do everything for us. With that kind of thinking we are weak as a people. The Democrats want to do everything for us at a price. That price is taxing the so called 5% of high income Americans that have created jobs for we the people. That 5% pay 35% in taxes and you wonder why jobs are going overseas. This 5% of Americans who create jobs for we the people lose 35 cents on the dollar made, and still have not paid we the people for our hard labour.
Now the Democratic party this year turns a blind eye for the Afican American vote. They know that Obama has terrorist ties in his background but having control of the Presidentcy is more important.
If a group did some serious investigation I'm willing to bet my life on this statement. The Democrates plotted a terrorist act against Wall Street. They turned a blind eye while Obama and his terrorist thugs demanded these finacial instituions to give out no down payment loans for mortgages. They threated them by stating they would go to the news and cry discrimination.
We the people have to stop this terrorist act now do not let the terrorist in office. The end of the United States is in plain site if Obama gets the Presidentcy. We must vote for Macain and Palin to clean up Washington before it's to late.

Khalid al-Mansour connection to Obama
Why isn't there more media inquiry/coverage on the connection between al-Mansour and Obama? This guy was a mentor to Black Panther founders, is orthodox Muslim, absolutely anti-Israel, and an aide to Royal Saudi family members who are linked to terrorism (Prince Alwaleed... and just so happens that he sought personal references and was raising money for Obama to go to Harvard. I also watched the video of this guy ranting on about how Muslims should cut off the nose, the ears, and cut out the flesh of white, Christian... he goes on to say, because God wants them to. (If it's too hard to believe, just do a quick internet search. It's on several sites.) Now, I'm certain, this is yet another connection Obama doesn't want all over the news.

Why has he surrounded himself with these types of people? Aren't there any non-radical, non-racist friends in is past?

Beyond the connections, there are other issues that obliterate any trust for the guy. Such as: Obama says he took out student loans for $30-something-K, but the math doesn't add up for the cost of his time at Harvard; Michelle was quoted on the campaign trail as saying they only recently paid off student loans, yet income tax statements going all the way back to 2000 do not show any interest paid toward student loans; Obama will not give Harvard permission to release his records, why not? After all, if there's nothing to hide...; How did a guy with average grades at Columbia get accepted into Harvard Law School? I'm supposed to believe there were no elite personal references? I'm no mathmetician, but it just doesn't add up.

No politician is perfect, but I'd trust McCain any day - at least I know his history, capabilities, and allegiances.

Obama's lame excuse of only being 8 when
Ayers was bombing US buildings is just that...a LAME excuse. The point is, that Obama as an ADULT worked with and interfaced with Ayers consistently. Obama did not HAVE to sit on a board and give grants to Ayers' lunatic ideas of education; Obama did NOT have to go to conferences with Ayers.

There's a reason Obama is hiding what he did at Columbia University. I predict it was probably there where he first met and buddied up with Ayers.

Plus Rezko would have had to know something about Obama otherwise why would someone out of the blue from Chicago give Obama a call to offer him a job?

Remember, Obama always attaches himself to those "older" mentors and then when they appear to be a liability to him, he tries to give the appearance of kicking them under the bus.

Ayers sat on that same annenburg board as Obama but, so did many other very respected members of society and some well know conservatives. If you will recall, Hillary tried to run this across us earlier this year and it smelled then, and helped propel her out of the election. Some think McCain is purposely trying to blow it, tis is further proof. The really big story is that Palin charged the victim, NOT the raper, for rape kits, very very expensive kits too. "Walter Annenberg was a shy child with a deaf, deformed ear and a stutter. As an adult, he drew strength from adversity, parlaying his father's bankrupt business into a publishing fortune and serving as ambassador to Britain. But the Annenberg fortune was built on publications that serve ordinary people; it is hard to imagine a broader reader base than that of TV Guide.

These circumstances reinforced Mr. Annenberg's belief in the power of a few big ideas. He believed in the promise and possibility of democracy. He believed that democracy depended on strong public schools. And when he felt that this foundation of democracy was at risk, he believed that it was the responsibility of "people of means" to come to its aid. Although his death will neither close the debate over how to evaluate the Annenberg Challenge nor make it irrelevant, it does prompt us to reflect on its benefactor's legacy.

When educators and citizens from the San Francisco Bay area first inquired about the Annenberg Challenge, we discovered that, in this reform initiative, it was ideas that mattered. ..."

Bryan, I don't need you or anyone else to tell me I am not to blame for Slavery,I don't feel any guilt for what took place back then. Why don't people go back and read history, it will show that the slaves were sold by their own people, no, it doesn't justify people took advantage of it, but for gosh sakes lets get history right. I will not stand by and let Obama try to make the American people feel guilty either. He has nothing to run on, if he did he wouldn't keep reminding people he is half black, my point was Obama said he was only 8 when Ayers did what he did, doesn't change the fact that Ayers did it and that Obama chose to associate himself with Ayers, yet obama keeps hammering that people are racial if they don't vote for him? Obama is a Radical just like the people he associates with, only you don't see it whether it is because you choose not to see it, or because his campaign managers and his financial supporters won't let him show his true self to the American people. Saying the Obama and Ayers "palled around" is a lie and really a scummy thing to say. There are over 50 people who have sat on that board and not them are terrorists but well respected members of society. This imposed explains Palin's character best. when she was mayor of Wasila, drunks from Alaska bars would drive over to Wasily to drink more, because Fairbanks bars closed at 2:30. The Wasila police chief told Sarah they need to close their bars at 2:30 too, drunks driving back and forth could kill innocent people, She fired him! Oddly and tragically for rape victims, drunkenness often goes along with rape, and Alaska has the highest rape rate, and if you lived in Wasila when Palin was mayor, you can expect a huge bill for the investigation. Palin, milk, and baloney (pork)
"As Ms. Palin came into office, the state Creamery Board, after years of study, concluded that state-run Matanuska Maid Dairy was beyond saving, after years in the red despite heavy taxpayer subsidies. It recommended that the dairy be privatized, as the only way of rescuing the dairy, and saving Alaskans from giving tax dollars to a failing business that inflated dairy costs. You would think that Ms. Palin, the so-called maverick cost cutter, would be thrilled. Nope. Instead, Ms. Palin fired the entire Board of Agriculture and Conservation, and replaced them with loyalists, who in turn installed themselves as the new Creamery Board. Palin contended that Mat Maid Dairy just needed better management, and these guys would do it. Ms. Palin didn’t like the expert’s answers, so instead of dealing with the facts, she fired the experts to find “new facts.” Except not so much. Nearly $1 million in subsidies later, including $200,000 in Alaska tax dollars paid to farmers to dump raw milk into the ground, this new Creamery Board came to the same exact conclusion as the old one - Matanuska Maid Dairy was a failure and a drain on the state. Oh, and the kicker is now the dairy has been reborn as a private enterprise, and subsidized with Federal tax dollars – tax dollars otherwise known as “pork.”

I offer this...John McCain is behind in the polls because McCain seems to have lost his sense of self. This is clearly NOT the man that ran in 2004. People like me, who CONSIDER supporting McCain, wonder why this is.

As for Gov. Palin, a lot of people are still in the "getting to know her" period. From what I can tell, she's smart and spunky and seems sincere when not going over the talking points. I hope she does a long form interview with Larry King or someone not partisan before the election.

You can't sell your far right political agenda to the voters (especially after eight years of W!
Your candidates are unappealing, even scary.
What's left? Dig up a few bad actors who had some marginal contact with Obama and try to run with that.
Ironically, even stooping so low, McCain and his surrogates can't come up with much: Ayres, Rezko, and Wright. Any evidence of wrong-doing by Obama? Nope! Just guilt by association. And, if the media that you vilify so much had done its job, you wouldn't even have Wright to kick around. The man served as a Marine and a Navy corpsman. Is that un-American? During his career in the ministry he organized dozens of community service programs, helping the poor, the unemployed, underprivileged families ... Is that un-American? Ah, but he gives fire and brimstone sermons attacking the government for its policies and providing right wing talk show hosts with sound-bites to play for their half-witted audience. That's unforgiveable!
But, speaking of associations, how about Charles Keating, the criminal banker who cost the American tax-payer billions of dollars. McCain and he were thick as thieves. McCain's wife was in business with him. McCain tried to intervene and prevent Congressional oversight of Keating's crooked dealings. Do we hear any of that? Not a peep. Once again the MSM sticks up for McCain.
So the landslide grows day by day with formerly "red" States tumbling one by one into the Obama camp. And in desparation, people like Mr. Lewis implore McCain to "take the gloves off." Pretty pathetic.

Still waiting for my morning coffee to set in, LOL...

I respect your pro life position and I understand your support of Gov. Palin's positions on abortion. I do disagree with you, but I do understand where you're coming from.

The difficult thing is that the philosophical differences between the right and left (and I am more left than right, I'll admit) spread between financial issues, issues of national defense, and social issues.

I believe in the importance of a frighteningly strong military. Reagan's "Peace through Strength" is a solid approach in my opinion.

I don't think citizens should depend on their government to save them.

But I am socially liberal. I'm pro choice. I support Gay rights (as much as I support anyone's right to live a free lifestyle). I think America is at a crisis point in its' educational system.

I tend to vote democratic because I sense intolerance from the right, Christianity gets inserted too much into right wing policy (and I believe in a separation of church and state), and I haven't heard much from republicans about education in America.

I thought that Governor Palin, being a mother, would speak more about the importance of education -- but I haven't heard much from her and that's disappointing. In all honesty, if McCain/Palin would make a pledge to give full attention to our educational system, I would be inclined to support them.

I've never been an admirer of John McCain. He's too far to the right politically and his reflexive militarism bothers me. As a vet, I find his record on veterans' issues deplorable (not to mention hypocritical) and, as a physician, I can't ignore his dreadful voting record on children's issues.
Beyond that I have real problems with him on a personal level. I've never been able to forgive the way he treated his first wife, Carol. And I still recall the despicable joke he told about little Chelsea Clinton, when her father was in the White House.
Nevertheless, I agree with you that the McCain of a decade ago was more attractive than the candidate we see today. I think it's his age primarily. This is his only opportunity to gain the Presidency. The thought of stamping his political career with such an achievement has driven him to do things that he might not have considered before. ajhil...

The problem, in my opinion, is that people get so tribal with their support that discourse comes to a complete halt and that's not good for the nation. When we start accusing our opponents, republican and democrat, of being "un-american" minds start closing, anger starts boiling and nothing gets solved.

No matter what happens, the next president will have to reconcile with a large portion of the populace that didn't support him and worries that his term will demolish their stake in the American experience. Combine that with an economic crisis that will take at least a year to stabilize, a war in Iraq and Afghanistan, and a tragically wounded educational system...and you have a Herculean task for any administration.

The left needs to stop treating Republican's like racist, greedy fundamentalist fanatics.

The right needs to stop calling liberals un-american and wedging cultural differences between the American citizenry.

The fact is that a lot of people make money on division. Rush Limbaugh. Keith Olbermann. Bill O'Reilly. The majority of politicians. If actual discourse between the left and the right took place, they would go the way of the dinosaur.

But if discourse doesn't take place then America is looking at a cultural division that will continue to separate and weaken the nation.

Like virtually all liberals, I'm vehemently anti-abortion, but also "pro-choice". That means I dislike the idea of abortion and would prefer that it never occur, but recognize circumstances in which it's the best outcome. Even for the fetus (and, if you don't think so, you've never watched a child die with Tay Sachs disease!)
This is Barack Obama's position too. As he's said many times, he wants abortion to be safe, legal, and rare.
The extremists, I'm afraid, are mostly on the other side, people who would make first term abortion illegal even in cases of rape or incest and sometimes, even if the mother's life is endangered.

What I don't accept is the decision by Sarah Palin and her husband to have a child this late in life, when she's in the highest risk group for Down Syndrome. They had four healthy kids already, so there was no great urgency for another.

The Bible also says nothing about abortion. However, it does speak approvingly of Abraham's willingness to kill his own son as part of a pagan ritual.
FYI: I've read the Bible twice, cover to cover; but the second time through I skimmed the Old Testament and concentrated on the Gospels.
Jesus would have listened to your ranting and shaken his head sadly. You're not what he was about!

Ajhil, why would you think that Jesus wouldn't think standing up for Life is a bad thing. What you want me to say is abortion and being gay is right. You may have read the bible cover to cover but that does not make you a scholar on the bible.
God Gives Life, now why would he give us the right to take the life of an unborn child?
Why would God create both Man and Woman? If he felt being Gay is right then why didn't he make two men or two women? Do you know why? It takes a man and a woman to bring about LIFE!
Ajhil, you are not a believer in My God, you are a believer in if it feels good do it.
Don't skip through the bible and only apply what you want in your life and leave out the rest.

If you have your own belief so be it. you have a right to believe as you wish.

I Have read Spiderman Comics cover to Cover, several times.
Prove to me anywhere in the bible that being gay is right and prove to me anywhere in the bible where it says abortion is right, you can't

Your comment that Wright was a Marine, then a Navy Corpsman somehow equates to proving he is not unamerican is, maybe, the weakest argument I've ever heard or seen.

Do you remember a man named WALKER who sold several billion dollars of cryptographic software and hardware to the USSR? He was a Navy Man who had been a chief petty officer and a warrant officer and he was damned sure "unamerican."

There was once a small book kicking around titled: "Man Without a Country." The book was fiction, but was held up to school children when I was in grade school as an example of making rash statements and of having a love of the United States of America.

Phillip Nolan, the Man Without a Country, was a naval officer who disagreed with some government policy. He said: "Goddamned America! May I never hear her name again!"

Long story short. He was confined to a series of warships that traveled the world, but he was secluded whenever the ship in which he was embarked came within sight of the USA. No one was permitted to use the word "America" in his presence and he never did again hear her name.
It has been a long time since I read that book, but best I recall a writing of his was found after his death aboard ship that said something to the effect. "I love my country, America, but no man has ever deserved less at her hands."

And that, my friends, is how I see Wright. Any man who would damn his own country deserves nothing -- certainly not respect. And Obama was right there with him, for twenty years!

On Fence Sitting...

I'm not a Christian. That's not being "on the fence". That's being clearly secular.

That doesn't mean that I dislike Christians, or Jews, or Hindus, etc. I'm just not a very religious person. I do believe in God, but I have difficulty with organized religion because each one tends to discount all the others and this "only one path to goodness" mentality seems short-sighted to me.

Essentially, what you're saying is that all non-christians are wrong because they haven't been saved and that discounts them morally, philosophically and politically. That's certainly your right, but I think it's dangerous to view the world through that prism.

Nothing lewd, obnoxious or improper, just a statement that the folks here are part of the Republican base (the True Believers/LLR), that Hewitt et al. are the Whips, that their role is to whip the base into a frenzy (which they have done well), and that the political purpose of the base is to (1) vote Republican and (2) march out and repeat what they hear on the radio and what they read here, so as to convince other like-minded sheeple to cast their vote for their chosen one.

I, therefore, especially enjoy the posts from sheeple who can't figure out why there are more Obama signs in their neighborhoods than McCain signs. I mean, doesn't everybody listen to right-wing radio and think the same way they do?

This thread has been a refreshing change from the usual Townhall blog, thanks to your thoughtful comments. I must say that your tolerance for abuse exceeds my own. I'm convinced that people like LLR come on the Internet to spew insults, primarily because they lack the guts to say such things to others face-to-face. (I can guarantee you, he'd only say them to me once!) It's easy to see why Hannity is their hero.
As I mentioned in a previous post, it's ironic that the calumny of the radical right has stuck so effectively to Jeremiah Wright. Erudite and fiercely intelligent, he's an old-fashioned Christian preacher, who lit up his congregation with his passion and rectitude. I'd be willing to bet that you haven't listened to (or watched) any of his sermons in their entirety. The one he gave after 9-11 is magnificent, as close to Jesus' teaching as anything you'll find. Forget the misleading soundbites. Judge the man on what he really said.

For Bryan, Pt 2
As for whom to vote for, as a social liberal and a fiscal conservative, you are caught between a rock and a hard place.

I am not, by nature, a "rabid, fundy hater," as one poster accused conservatives of being. I grew up in a very liberal family and attended a Unitarian church as a child. But logic and research opened my eyes to both fiscal conservatism (Ludwig von Mises) and social conservatism. In reality, each of us is exactly who we are supposed to be at any given instant, and the only choice any of us has at any instant is whether we'll accept reality and our places in it, or deny both. Everything else flows from that choice, made in every instant.

Regarding abortion, I am pro-life, because a baby is a unique human being from the moment of conception. This is true even in cases of rape or incest. These cases are not the baby's fault, after all, but are due to the choices of its parents for good or ill. I'm not in favor of blanket condemnation of abortion, however, because each case does need to be considered on its own merits.

If there is only one choice anyone can make at any given moment--to accept or reject reality and one's place in it--then everything we're all yelling at each other during this election cycle is window-dressing. Because the choice isn't made just once (no matter what anyone else says), life is not either/or. The real question about the candidates you need to ask yourself is "Does what is known about this candidate reflect a preponderance of choices to accept reality and his/her place in it, or to deny reality and his/her place in it?" You might also want to reflect on the course of your own life and ask the same question--and that goes for everyone posting on these threads.

Phoenix Lady writes: Sunday, October, 05, 2008 11:35 AM
For Bryan, Pt 3
Reality is such that we can only apprehend it in extremely limited terms. Comprehension is essentially impossible, though, of course, we are strongly encouraged to increase our knowledge and understanding as much as possible. So the choice might better be stated as "Am I willing to keep trying to understand and accept reality and my place in it? Or do I demand that reality be what I say it is?"

Thank you, Bryan, for being reasonable.

An Ebarrassment
It is a total embarrassment to me as an American to hear the comments made by Gov Palin regarding Obama's association with William Ayers. Barack Obama was a child when Ayers was a part of the organization in question. Heck, given the radical and rebellious atmosphere of this country during the 60's half of the polititians in Washington probably had affiliations with organizations that would be deemed radical. The difference is that they were probably old enough to know about it.

I can truly see now that the McCain/palin ticket has nothing left and are now grasping at straws. I almost feel sorry for them. The campaign is a disaster and there's absolutely no way to fix it. It's past the point of no return. both McCain and Palin should know by now that negative statements such as those further polarize and divide the American people, and more so in favor of the Obama camp. Just look at the polls! I guess when there's no substance on the issues, thst's all they have left. It's a shame.

LLR - You're a ridiculous self-parody. If I ever wanted to convince someone not to become a Christian, I'd have her read your posts.
Seadog - The Man Without a Country was a short story published anonymously by Edward Everett Hale, in the Atlantic Monthly in 1863, you ignorant sod. I read it too, when I was in 2nd grade and even then recognized it for what it was. You obviously didn't.
Bryan - Interesting that your post wound up just before mine in the queue. I'm curious, is your opinion of Wright based on a real familiarity with his preaching or just the sound bites?
Racially polarized he is and with good reason. (I grew up in the south during the fifties and I can tell you, had I been black, I'd have been polarized too!) But he has worthwhile things to say. I hope you'll forgive me for observing that your summary judgment sounds too much like LLR.

I have been surprised and disappointed that these things weren't brought up earlier, but as I read in a previous post on this blog, maybe this will be Obama's October surprise. The dems and the MSM certainly have gone out of their way to cover McCain and Palin with mud, and most of it is unsubstantiated. Now it's time for Mccain and Palin to expose Obama for the type of individual he was and still is. He has way too much baggage and it needs to be revealed to everyone. I hope Sarah doesn't stop with Ayers though. But I also hope she isn't in this alone. I hope that she, McCain, and the RNC as well as the organizations making pro McCain ads will all band together and hit Obama's baggage hard. But it all needs to come with hard proof, not just words. Accusations alone will just turn everyone off.
Leo writes: Sunday, October, 05, 2008 11:58 AM
The thing is this...
When you burn bridges they are no longer fit to be crossed. Even if somehow the republican ticket gets elected, how do you work in a bipartisan way after attacking the very patriotism of a fellow leader? Obama vowed to never call into question the patriotism of another candidate which is a very classy and American thing to do. The Republican candidates have no such standards and prefer to roll around in the mud rather than to speak to the issues concerning our people. I see that when you are a party that is more concerned with the success of big business, then all Americans have to play second fiddle. Our greatest assets are our people without whom NOTHING can succeed. The middle class deserves much more attention and support from our leaders. What's wrong with talking about that stuff?

I knew it was written by Hale, but didn't know it was a short story. It was a small, red covered book when I first seen it. Not certain ,but think it is still among the books I have on my WVa farm. The book was read in class (2nd or 3rd grade) and we boys "ignorant sods" that we were, discussed it quite a bit because virtually all of us had family fighting in WW II and were horrified that anybody would ever utter such a statement.

I don't know your background, so won't call you an ignorant clod, sod, goon, whatever. I don't have a lot of class -- but I have more than that! I will tell you, though, I have zero respect for Obama because of his association with a bomber, a preacher who goddamns his own country, a high-grade criminal and the ACORN group.

Democratic slime
I read here that some feel that Obama has not participated in a muddy campaign. Ask Hillary about that. Obama has never mentioned his race as a factor to embrace or be guilty of not blindly supporting. The Dems have not drug Palin and her family through the mud. Obama saw to it that that treatment of her ended. They have not slighted McCain for his age or his physical afflictions. BALONEY!

Obama has these relationship problems because of himself alone. The Dems cannot produce any video of Republicans defending FNMA/Mac because none exists. Obama IS #2 on the FNMA contribution roster. REZKO is going to prison for corruption. Ayers is an unrepentant American terrorist. Wright IS a radical racist. IF ANY REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE HAD EVEN ONE OF THESE PEOPLE IN THEIR RECENT HISTORY THEY WOULD BE CRUCIFIED.

I mean why not run an Islamic radical for President. I am sure the Dems would find some excuse why that would not only be acceptable but the best thing to ever happen to America.

What I'm saying is that it's unacceptable from either side. I'm a fellow veteran, and honestly I'm sick of hearing about McCain's service. That doesn't qualify him one bit for the Oval Office. If it did, then there have been many many others more qualified. Understand this... Two women can meet each other and in 15 minutes know each other's life story. MEN DO NOT DO THIS. Even if they spoke substantially, why would Ayers just volunteer to tell Obama about all his past affiliations? There are married couples who don't do that. You don't just learn stuff about people by rubbing elbows. If this is the basis on which to judge character in an individual, then we should start over and elect an entirely new house, senate and everything else.

Seadog:
(1) You're right: I owe you an apology for the "ignorant sod" remark. It's hard not to fall into the habit here. I was only in second grade, when I read the story, but even then I knew it was fictional, exaggerated and silly.
(2) Your post about Wright doesn't make sense, especially from someone who (I assume) supports McCain, who has based his entire political career on his military record and seldom misses an opportunity to mention it. Does John Walker's perfidy make McCain's service meaningless or anyone else's? I suggest Wright's needs to be taken at face value too, unless you can cite something dishonorable about it.
(3) Wright's damning of his country occurred in the context of a complex sermon about patriotism and the difference between country and government. He even emphasizes at the time that he uses those words in their Biblical sense in order to make a point. If you haven't listened to the whole sermon, but are basing your condemnation of Wright on the tiny sound bites served up by right wing radio, then you're letting them do your "thinking" for you.
(4) I love the way you folks just skate right over the Charles Keating business. Keating was a rotten crook, who defrauded the American people out of billions, and McCain did a heck of a lot more than shake the man's hand! Oh, yeah, it happened years ago. So what? McCain made propaganda films for the Vietcong. Yeah, he was tortured, but so what? Using standards like yours, no one looks good.

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes unto the Father but by me."
John 14:6. Your "holier than thou" comment suggests that you are not spirit filled nor a Christian. Christians don't speak in ways that blaspheme, mock, or ridicule the Lord. As followers of Jesus, "WE ARE COMMANDED TO BE HOLY"
not holier than Him, for that would be in the same spirit which got Lucifer kicked out of heaven , who then became satan. Have you been baptized into the household of faith since you;ve accepted Jesus as your Lord? Not referring to being baptized as an infant. All you did then was get wet! Abraham was going to slit his son's throat and burn his body on an alter. Tell me what that is, if not a pagan ritual. Would you do that to your son? Come to think of it, maybe you would.

It DOES matter
The following is an email I sent to Bret at Weekend Live on Fox news:

“I would like someone to explain to me the difference between Ayers and Charles Manson. Please bear with me- it’s not far-fetched.

Ayers and Manson both headed groups that killed innocent people, although Manson didn’t actually commit violence himself, but Ayers DID. Is that difference simply that Ayers group killed cops and Manson’s killed “beloved” members of the celebrity community? Manson did not, himself, actually do any physical harm, yet Ayers, himself, planted bombs that severely hurt quite a few people, including a young airman. Well, if the difference is that Ayers “only” hurt government workers and cops, as the wife of a cop, I’m not buying it.

“Out here” we must be responsible for our actions and our associations- “you lie down with dogs, you get fleas”, and all that. I see NO reason why Obama shouldn’t be held to the same account.

Manson will never get out of prison and Ayers has never served a single day. People say Manson is mad because of his “crazy rants”, Yet Ayers gains a university teaching job and a interviews with the mainstream press where he makes HIS crazy rants.

I hope you will understand why I just don’t see the difference between them.”

I WANT someone to explain WHY WHY WHY Ayers walks the streets, poisoning the minds of our children in a classroom and is viewed, somehow, as a politically savvy operative. I WANT to know WHY this man isn’t in prison. If a person can be sent to prison for the REST of his life for what his followers did and STAY there because of his percieved craziness- then WHY isn’t Ayers in the next cell??!!

Palin and AIP
AIP, the secessionist group whose founder, Joe Vogler once said:

"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government...and I won't be buried under their damn flag...

"I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."

Palin's complete dealings with the group isn't entirely clear, and unfortunately we can't ask Mr. Vogler about it since he was murdered in a plastic explosives sale gone bad, but we do know this: Sarah Palin probably attended the AIP convention 1994, the McCain campaign admits she attended in 2000, and as governor, Palin taped a welcoming message to them in 2006, saying:

"Your party plays an important role in our state's politics. I've always said that competition is so good, and that applies to political parties as well. I share your party's vision of upholding the constitution of our great state... So I say good luck on a successful and inspiring convention. Keep up the good work, and God bless you."

Add to that, Todd Palin, aka "First Dude," was a registered member of AIP from 1995 until 2002, coincidentally changing his party affiliation when she began her first campaign for public office.

Okay.

David Morrell's character "John Rambo" is actually a condemnation of ultra right wing politics, a fictional embodiment of the psychological cost of war. I know he's a cute moniker for the far right because he shoots people real good, but the actual source material isn't the stuff of jingoism.

Instead, you should choose "Mack Bolan", or even "Jason Bourne" as Robert Ludlum is actually much more right wing than the tone of the Bourne films. There's is also the titular "Jack Ryan". Those serve your purpose better.

I teach English and I just couldn't let it go.

Number One

You might read this later if you have already , "headed out."

I'd never support a man simply because he served in the military. I vote for the man, not the party. John McCain is not God's gift to the world, but I consider him the lesser of two evils. So, yes, I intend to vote for him.

FYI: I.ve voted for Kennedy, Johnson, Carter (1st time) then republicans since. I'd again vote for a democrat if they'd nominate someone thought would do what was right for my country.

I have listened to Obama's spiel, dozens of times and I have dug up newspaper articles about him -- some from a good while ago in Chicago newspapers. I see nothing in his background that impresses me enough to vote for him. He simply does not yet have the experience. He has never made a decision in a crises situation and has never managed anything significant. I don't like his attitude towards we "little people" either.

The Code of Conduct came into being after the Korean War because so many folks spilled their guts without a great deal of pressure. I know the code well -- and it does not require one to submit to heavy torture -- quite the contrary.

I served with a vice admiral who suffered the same torture as McCain. His arms has been broken the same as McCain's and he was in constant pain. He was a fine man, but very grouchy. Everybody, me included, was yelled at, but I never thought badly of him because he'd gone through sheer hell. I was never in such a situation as McCain, so I am in no position to judge any of his actions. And, Sir, neither is anybody was was not there. One of the Terry Pratchett books, Night Watch, I think, had a passage about old members of the guard getting angry when a newer member copied the older members and wore a sprig of lilac on his tunic on the anniversary of an old guard's heroic death. He was told: "You weren't there!" That's the way I see it -- very few of us "were there."

Number Two:

I have not skated past the Keating scandal. McCain was tried by his peers and found wanting in judgment. But, Sir, he didn't get married by him and he didn't hang with him for twenty years. He simply left the Navy and met Arizona power broker who took advantage of his knowing little of the civilian world. He did wrong, which he admitted.

On the other hand, McCain has proven his courage many, many times and he has lead large numbers of people. Believe it or not, sailors are NOT easy to lead! Sailors, junior and senior, are among the most contrary folks alive! He commanded and greatly improved the largest squadron in the Navy, during which time he had a huge budget to manage -- several million dollars. Budgets are called "Operating Targets" in the Navy. Higher command has been known to "Relieve for Cause" those commanding officers who went over budget without a darned good reason.

Wright said it once -- that's enough for me!

It takes a good while, longer than you might think. Sailors find civilians strange folks, for a good while. I lives 3 years in Morocco, 3 years in Panama, 1 year in Spain and almost seven years in Italy. I've been to almost every country touched by water -- and a bunch that are not. I've associated with folks ranking from dockies to royals (three of 'em) I recently traveled to various states doing govt. investigations. I frequently met civilians and wondered: "What makes this person tick?"

Regardless, I intended to make no excuse for McCain's lack of judgement. He fouled up and he admitted it. That is the Navy Way -- you NEVER blame a subordinate and you stand up and take your medicine when you foul up. (Not that everybody has done that -- we're getting some political types in the Navy in recent years.) How many political types have you ever heard who admitted to a mistake? I can't think of any in recent times -- could have missed one though.

Darned if I can come up with one who is a statesman in the manner of those not-so-long-ago. Not sure -- it was hard to keep up with the domestic news what with constant travel -- but I think he might have been speaker of the house. His name started with an "M" and he always put his country first. A very impressive man!

I see a democrat from PA the other day on C-SPAN named Kanjorski. He was speaking about the current debt problem. He was very impressive and seemed to be putting his country ahead of his party. I have since heard that his campaign is in trouble. No idea who is running against him.

Crenshaw of Florida seems to put his country first too, but then I know little about him. Folks in Northern Florida think highly of him as does the military in this area.

Having read about Dominionists and other such religious wackos, I know these people exist, but actually running into one, so to speak, sends a chill up my back. They’re only funny in the abstract.

Seadog – I see that irony must be applied with a heavy brush here. My point was exactly yours, that McCain’s participation in Vietcong propaganda is a meaningless criticism without understanding the circumstances in which it occurred and whether it means anything regarding his true beliefs. It’s too bad that you and others on the far right aren’t fair enough to use the same standard with Obama. Yeah, he knows Bill Ayers socially and serves on a philanthropic board with him. So what? Do you seriously contend that Obama’s therefore a terrorist or has terrorist sympathies? Robyn cites the aphorism, “If you lie down with dogs, etc.” but I’m sure she’d never apply it to McCain, even though he did a great deal more than “lie down” with Charles Keating. At a certain point it becomes clear when someone is merely employing a prop for preconcieved ideas. There’s a word for that.

I recommend some reading to broaden you mind: “What the Bible Really Says about Homosexuality” by Daniel Helminiak, a Catholic priest and scholar. As the Library Journal described it:
“Helminiak … has done careful reading in current biblical scholarship about homosexuality. While cautioning against viewing biblical teaching as "the last word on sexual ethics," he stresses the need for accurate understanding of what the biblical "facts" are and concludes that "the Bible supplies no real basis for the condemnation of homosexuality." Using the studies of Yale historian John Boswell, New Testament seminary professor L. William Countryman, and others, Helminiak examines the story of Sodom (where the sin was inhospitality), Jude's decrying sex with angels, and five texts-Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13, Romans 1:27, I Corinthians 6:9, and I Timothy 1:10-all of which, he concludes, "are concerned with something other than homogenital activity itself."

"Where have all the statesmen gone?"

To be completely frank and honest, after reading pretty much everything he's written -- books, speeches, position papers -- and watched him as often as I could on TV, I believe Barack Obama to be, perhaps potentially, a great statesman.

"The last one I really remember was the old Irish fellow with slicked down white hair from somewhere in New England -- MA, I think."

Tip O'Neill? I don't know about that. I spent several DCA/BOS flights sitting next to him when I was commuting down to the Naval Research Lab (including one in the middle seat between him and Teddy). He was a very, very smart guy, but a statesman?

If I'm not mistaken, you're talking about Tip O'Neill, one of the longest serving Speakers of the House and a Massachusetts Democrat. There were many terms applied to Tip, some flattering, some not, but statesman was definitely not one of them. He was a hard-bitten politician, who played for keeps.
As I said, at a certain point it becomes clear, when someone is being reasonable and when he's using talking points to prop up a fixed idea. You've thrown up one excuse for McCain after another and every time these are shot down, you respond with another series of "but ... but ... but..."
Same would apply, I'm sure, to McCain's despicable treatment of his first wife and child, his nasty, viscious joke about Chelsea Clinton at a Republican fund raiser, his lies about conditions in Iraq, etc ... There'll always be an excuse for "the old salt," John McCain. Why? Because you want to find 'em.
And that is something I can't respect.

Obama was EIGHT when Ayers did his radical thing. EIGHT years old. The fact that Ayers is living as a free man in his community as an English teacher and worked with Obama in 1999 for a charity in Chicago DOES NOT MEAN they are radical partners of anti-American causes. McCain directed a fighter squadron with a budget of a couple million $$. That’s not a negligible accomplishment; but Barack Obama starting out as a junior Senator put together within one year a sophisticated campaign organization with a budget exceeding $100 million that is poised to put him in the White House. No executive ability? You must be joking.
Obama went to Europe, held effective talks with world leaders, spoke to huge crowds, made a difference. You dislike the fact that he acknowledged mistakes the U.S. has made. Maybe your idea of a “statesman” is someone who goes around the world swinging his arms and acting tough – which brings us nothing but trouble. If that’s what you want, then John (“Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran”) McCain is your man; but I don’t want my grandsons to bleed out their lives in the sand of some foreign country, simply to satisfy the exalted ego (or the greed) of some political elite.
If McCain had his way, we’d be in a shooting war with Iran right now. If we'd pushed Georgia into NATO, as McCain wanted, we’d be in a shooting war with Russia too. Just how suicidal do you want your “statesman” to be on your behalf?
Bush/Cheney’s “islamofascist” threat is a transparent invention designed to distract us, while they pick our pockets and shred the Constitution. We’re facing one of the most formidable adversaries we’ll ever encounter and it isn’t a moslem country. It’s Russia. Putin – ex-KGB, ambitious, ruthless, brilliant – wants to reconstitute Soviet might. I want a President smart enough to outsmart Putin.
You’re right: we need a statesman in the White House, a real one, not some jingoistic swashbuckler looking for the next fight. I think Barack Obama may be such a man. John McCain surely isn't.

Obama wasn't 8 y/o when
Ayers was standing on an American flag on the cover of a magazine.

He wasn't 8y/o when Ayers lamented his actions with weather underground didn't go further than they did in the wake of 911.

Obama was in fact a regualr attendee of the Trinity United Church where his pastor Jeremiah Wright was on the pulpit talking about how 911 was a result of America's chickens coming home to roost. When he asked God to dam America, when he accused "rich white people" of using the AIDs virus to kill black people.

But of course these weren't things Obama was aware of even when his fellow "christians" were high fiving and cheering the teachings of pastor Wright.

Even though Ayers is very public about his hatred for America.

Myself, I wouldn't share a park bench with trash like that but Obama share significant life experiances with haters like that and proves his seniment when he calls the woman who raised him his own grandmother racist calling her a "typical white person".

This is a shell game Obama is playing, his promoters say some Democrats won't vote for him because he is black. He makes statements about his race, his name in hopes that he will come across as a victim of racism this is a joke of a human being with no record, at least not one he wants us to see. Does Obama have ANY friends?
In her most recent Colorado appearance, Gov. Sarah Palin (referring to founder of the Weather Underground, bomber Bill Ayers) accused Barack Obama of “palling around with terrorists who would target their own country”. In its customary fashion, the Obama Campaign denied any friendship really existed, rather just another past acquaintance that Obama must now distance himself from.
Does Barack Obama have ANY friends? Sure, he’s got gazillions of followers in tow, hundreds of campaign advisors, dozens of political allies and several half-brothers and sisters, but where are his friends? Every time some significant person from his past is unearthed by the Media, Obama disavows any ‘friendship’ and repudiates (their) statements, positions, activities or associations. Rev. Wright, Father Flaeger, Tony Rezko, Emil Jones and now William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn – every one denounced by Obama and exiled from his campaign – as if they never even existed.
Where are all his; childhood friends, college buddies, old girlfriends, drinking partners, fellow potheads, basketball buddies, blood relatives, and other non-convicted associates?
From where I sit, it looks like anyone and everyone that Obama ever knew is now persona non gratis or they’re hiding out until AFTER the election. To me, Obama’s that guy at the party that’s always looking for the ‘bigger-better’ person to cozy-up to. You know the type, for Obama, its more about what you can do for him, than what he’ll do for you. Not the kind of person I want in the White House representing America - on Election Day, vote John McCain.

McCain's own Radical ties:
Liddy served four and a half years in prison in connection with his conviction for his role in the Watergate break-in and the break-in at the office of the psychiatrist of Daniel Ellsberg, the military analyst who leaked the Pentagon Papers. Liddy has acknowledged preparing to kill someone during the Ellsberg break-in "if necessary"; plotting to murder journalist Jack Anderson; plotting with a "gangland figure" to murder Howard Hunt to stop him from cooperating with investigators; plotting to firebomb the Brookings Institution; and plotting to kidnap "leftist guerillas" at the 1972 Republican National Convention -- a plan he outlined to the Nixon administration using terminology borrowed from the Nazis. (The murder, firebombing, and kidnapping plots were never carried out; the break-ins were.) During the 1990s, Liddy reportedly instructed his radio audience on multiple occasions on how to shoot Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agents and also reportedly said he had named his shooting targets after Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Liddy has donated $5,000 to McCain's campaigns since 1998, including $1,000 in February 2008. In addition, McCain has appeared on Liddy's radio show during the presidential campaign, including as recently as May. An online video labeled "John McCain On The G. Gordon Liddy Show 11/8/07" includes a discussion between Liddy and McCain, whom Liddy described as an "old friend." During the segment, McCain praised Liddy's "adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great," said he was "proud" of Liddy, and said that "it's always a pleasure for me to come on your program."

John McCain sat on the board of a very right-wing organization, it was the U.S. Council for World Freedom, it was chaired by a guy named John Singlaub, who wound up involved in the Iran contra scandal. It was an ultra conservative, right-wing group. The Anti-Defamation League, in 1981 when McCain was on the board, said this about this organization. It was affiliated with the World Anti-Communist League – the parent organization – which ADL said "has increasingly become a gathering place, a forum, a point of contact for extremists, racists and anti-Semites."

So, we have Sarah Palin, actively involved with a secessionist group that professes its hatred for America, and whose husband was a card-carrying member of the group for seven years. And don't forget, Todd Palin isn't just the spouse of an elected official. He has been called a Shadow Governor, attending private meetings, being sent on fact finding trips, and being copied on emails that were later "prohibited from being released to the public due to executive privilege." This man would be a 72-year old heartbeat and a pillow away from the presidency.

McCain's radical ties:Keating 5
The Keating Five became synonymous for the kind of political influence that money can buy. As the S&L failure deepened, the sheer magnitude of the losses hit the press. Billions of dollars had been squandered. The five senators were linked as the gang who shilled for an S&L bandit.

S&L "trading cards" came out. The Keating Five card showed Charles Keating holding up his hand, with a senator's head adorning each finger. McCain was on Keating's pinkie.

I think you're onto something here. Keep pushing it. The more people see of you and the trash you peddle, the further McPalin sinks in the polls. Without intending to, you're performing a valuable service to your country.

Obama Too naive to lead?
Obama is desperate to get the focus off his failed judgment.
1) Rev. Wright... he expects us to believe he just didn't know about the Rev's G-D America attitude
2)Rezco.... Obama he expects us to believe that he just didn't know about him either.
3)Raines... Obama wants us look at McCain's ties to Freddie and Fannie but not at the fact Obama was #3 in receiving the most money from Fanny and Freddie under Raines.
4) NOW It's Bill Ayers... AND we are also supposed to believe that since Ayers bombed our country when Obama was 8 we should just forget about his ties with him as an adult and also ignore the fact that on September 11, 2001 Bill Ayers said”I don’t regret setting bombs,” - ”I feel we didn’t do enough.”

News flash - this is NOT judgment to lead.
No wonder Obama wants to move on.

QUILT BY ASSOCIATION
Barak Obamas associates,
Ayers Wright,Rezko, Farrakhan, Franklin Rains, Jim Johnson,
Fannie and Freddie,
ACORN a corrupted Organization associated with Barak Obama,
and with these kind of friends,
Obama shows bad Judgement.

"QUILT BY ASSOCIATION"

I suppose that's a blanket accusation.
ajhil writes: Monday, October, 06, 2008 3:24 PM

Association?
What's that mean?
Did Obama spend a significant amount of time with them? Nope.
Did ANY of them influence him in any demonstrable way? Nope.
Ayers - Obama cut him off in 2001, after Ayers published an unrepentant memoir about his activism.
Rezko - Obama bought a house next to Rezko's property and then bought land from Rezko. Any evidence of wrong-doing there? Nope.
Farrakhan - Did Obama have any dealings at all with Farrakhan? Nope.
The whole Fannie/ Freddie bunch - nothing there either - http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/fanniemae.asp

All you right wing nut cases have are these thoroughly discredited, meaningless talking points that you repeat over and over among yourselves, even though the rest of the world has decided that it's garbage.
But keep it up. Thanks in large part to your idiotic mumblings about "terrorists" and other lunatic theories, McCain and (snicker) Palin are free-falling in the polls.

time running out
With the clock ticking away old man Mccain, digs deep to find something to help turn around a failed campagin. Too bad he has more skeletons OBAMA.Too link him to a person who bombed a bathroom when Obama was eight years old, is as desparate as one can get. Especially comming from a person who is under investigation for abuse of power.
