Posted by: Matt Lewis at 12:45 PM
Team Sarah, a project of the Susan B. Anthony List, will host an historic event TODAY at 11:00AM EST -- and you can listen RIGHT HERE...

Live TV : Ustream

The Million Woman Townhall is a special telephone townhall focused on one million women voters  in battleground states.

Former Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN)’s iconic voice will launch the Million Woman Townhall by inviting women voters to participate over the telephone this Saturday.  Once on the line, voters will be able to pose questions about the McCain-Palin ticket to a panel of women leaders including Jeri Thompson, actress Janine Turner, pollster Kellyanne Conway, policy expert Barbara Comstock, Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser and Susan B. Anthony List General Chairman Jane Abraham as moderator.

What's the Dress Code?
Cindy McCain and Sarah Palin seem to be setting the standard with $six-figure outfits. Can anyone participate in your event if they haven't spent at least $5,000 on hair and makeup?

sarah palin has driven women away from mccain.

So Bob, what's your point?
I can just imagine the attack line if these women appeared in Walmart attire. And do you actually believe Michelle's standards are any less when it comes to her appearance? Grow up.

And cl says, "sarah palin has driven women away from mccain." Not REAL women, just the hypocritical ones who feel threatened by her.

I love how the left shows their true colors when going after someone's looks and clothes. Again, confirming that this race is rooted in envy. Bloomingdales, Nieman's and Nordstrom - apparently the unholy trinity to the left.

Bob
Let's see. Michelle Obama wears 15 to 25 thousand dollar designer suits and Obama wears 3000 to 5000 dollar designer suits. The Obamas send their children to a private school that costs 14,000 dollars per year, per child. The Obamas order a 500 dollar lobster and cavier dinner at the Waldorf Astoria and the Obamas and their entourage have spent almost 500,000 dollars on food. I doubt they are eating at McDonalds. Obama will spend almost 700 million on this campaign which is MORE THAN BUSH AND KERRY COMBINED. Biden, for his part, absconded over 2 million dollars from his campaign and funneled it to his wife and son. And thousands is being spent on Joes BoTox.

Now to Sarah. Sarah shops at WalMart, Target and Penneys. Her children attend public schools. She and her husband hunt and fish to fill their freezer and they built their home themselves, without the help of a criminal like Resko. They have been without health insurance. Sarahs wardrobe was limited. I noticed myself that she had like three suits that she wore over and over. So the RNC went shopping for her. BIG DAMN DEAL. The Obamas are the elitests who live the most opulent lifestyle. If you want to vote for them, fine. But for the love of God, stop trying to make idiotic statements.

Also, could you please tell me just one....just one thing that Obama has ever accomplished. And don't give me the Hope and change crap. Just one concrete accomplishment that has nothing to do with running for president.

Waiting........

"The Obamas order a 500 dollar lobster and cavier dinner at the Waldorf Astoria"

You people will believe anything, won't you? Little problem: Michelle was speaking in Gary Indiana that night and Barack was nowhere near the Waldorf. Here's a link: http://tinyurl.com/5nlopb

The rest of your information is on equally shaky ground. You'd better watch that "the Palins built their house themselves;" it appears that the same contractor who worked on Ted Steven's house remodeling was a "friend" of Todd's and got a lucrative contract to work on the Wasilla sports complex at the same time the Palins were building "with the help of a few friends."

You are wrong! The Obamas did stay in New York that night. They made several appearances. And the tip about their meal was told to the New York Post by more than one person there.

What about my question Bob? You didn't answer that.

Palin is terrific for the Conservatives!
People are smarter than mainstream media gives credit. We know THEY spin their news and spoon fed it to us - manipulate the news to their liking. The double standard here is disgusting and unprofessional. The blasting and hypocritical rants against experienced, intelligent, honest candidates; McCain Palin. Why they don't question the sleazy, dishonest Obama and his STRONG and BINDING ties to Bill Ayers, Rezko, Rev Wright among others isn't explored. Obama is scarey and anti America.

Bob Munck comments re: Cindy & Sarah
I belong to a conservative woman's group here in the small town that I live in. The group consists of 67 members who meet every Thursday to talk election politics. Not once did I nor any member ever bring up what any of the candidates are wearing let alone the cost of their clothes. I belong to a Family of 12, conservatives, and we never talk or have talked about candidate attire.

What does it matter what brand of clothing or the cost? If they want to spend $1,000 on a pant suit or $100.00, who give's a sheet? People who are looking at substance and a record of getting something done to better the lives of Americans, the very people who hired these Government Officials into office in the first place, don't give a sheet about what you are blogging about. Now that you and the Joke of the liberal media bring up all of this, as if it is some important news that we need to know before voting, I'll add that I would like to see Obama wearing some thug gang wear with some bling hanging off his neck and his wife wearing some sleazy B-ach wear. And Palin, a pair of Jeans and a white T-shirt would do just fine. I think that those suggestions really fit the personalities, don't you? Bob? Oh, and by the way...you still did not answer the question posed by "boomerbabe." I suppose that you have not come up with anything because you know that NOTHING is the answer.

Don't you listen to anything?

Mrs Palin made it crystal clear that the clothing the RNC bought was NOT her property. The clothes will go to charity. You will recall that Hillary Clinton donated Bill's used underwear, even, all for the sake of a tax deduction.

Only somebody who cannot answer the question as to Oblahma's accomplishments could have his knickers in a twist over what others wear.

Gov. Palin - The big news is that the stuff was PAID FOR, not a "donation write-off" and not begged from the designers/manufacturers for free.

My biggest worry, that all this focus on the Presidential run, we are missing all the Congressional races - ELECT MORE REPUBLICANS!!! and a few Senate races too.

If BO is elected, let's also hand him a Republican MAJORITY House and Senate, or at the very least, enough to fight what ever crap the Socialist want to do to us.

Obama's Birth Certificate
There has been so much discussion over the birth certificate of Obama. Has he not been able to produce an original birth certificate instead of a birth registration. For example, if a mother gives birth in Mexico(I live in TX) she is able to cross the border, go to the hospital and register her child at the TX hospital. I guess that would make the child a US citizen correct? There are so many major questions with regard to Obama but if we can't get the minor ones answered like 1) his original birth certificate...not registration 2) did Obama ever thank Ayers for his political start-off and return the favor by inviting his to dinner at his home? 3)How to buy a home below market value..1.65 million less 4) and determining the real relationship between him and Tony Rezko. All I can say is where there's smoke there's fire. No one is talking except for Sean Hannity and Laura Ingram. I wish someone would really stick their neck out there and get the facts straight and put these questions to rest.

I love the so called 'feminists' like members of NOW - - they like to claim they represent all women. The reason they hate Sara Palin is that they know they don't.

There is also always a bit of self-loathing involved, which explains why they are so outraged by her CHOICE to have a Downs syndrome baby and love and care for him. As the article in the National Review said recently ... it is "hyper sensitivity, and angry attacks to compensate for the emotional vulnerability this issue surfaces.... a relationship to the collective grief, shame, and guilt from personal involvement in the abortion of an unborn child.

It is not about the clothes it is about who is wearing them.

Sarah is a Military Mom who has spent her adult life serving her country.
She has been a Mayor and a Governor.
She has the highest approval rating of any U.S. Governor.
She chose life for her special needs child.
She supports her daughter's in taking responsibilty for the life she created.

Cindy McCain spends her time and money helping those less fortunate in third world countries.
She also walks the walk and adopted a black child from Bangledesh.

Barack Obama's brother and relatives live in huts and he wants to spread our wealth around while not helping his own family.

Michelle Obama has spent her adult life running her country down and her husband Barack Obama has never served in the Military.

He chose instead to go to an America hating church and pal around with terrorists who stomp on our flag and who bombed our country and do not regret it.

Barack Obama chose the death penalty for newborns

As a former Clinton supporter I am proud to say I now support McCain/Palin- 08. Gov. Palin biggest threat to Dems
The Dems and majority of main stream media are so threatened by Gov. Palin because she speaks (and connects) to people who deal in common sense and logic rather than the left's TORTURED SPIN of "What the American people want". They will stop at nothing to try to destroy her.
Their plans for creating employment = Let's set up a government program for a Community Organization of Wardrobe Police - the newest subsidiary of ACORN. That should fix any Rebulican women who dare to dress well and look good - of course, we can't have any of that!

McCain down double digits with women
Christianlib it is interesting that you make that comment. Are you a man or a woman? Here's a news flash I am gay and I am supporting the McCain/Palin ticket. I am a registered Ind. and I do not represent the stereotypical gay woman because of my looks, because I am a parent, and because of my common sense approach on politics. During the VP debate Biden made it very clear to the gay community that both he and Obama define marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Growing up as a Catholic, marriage is a sacrament. I am clear on that and to change the church's view is ludicrous. Here is the reality about politics that you may have not even consider, there is not party or politician who will have the exact same views or beliefs that you have. Even though the McCain/Palin ticket may not have my views on gay unions which to me is more of a legal contractual issue and not being able to file jointly ones taxes is a federal issue. However, as a small business owner and having a common sense approach to economics 101 raising taxes, and Obama's rhetoric on how 95% of the people will not have their taxes raised sounds great to the uninformed, but is not a reality especially that he wants to create more government programs. My advise to you is don't be so partisan and completely aligned with your party. Remember this Dem. majority congress has less of an approval rating than Bush, they looked the other way and were offended by the Fannie & Freddy investigation in 04. Use your common sense, socialism does not work look at Cuba and what is going on in Venezuela. You're just a citizen not and not part of the political elite who will be favored. One more thing voting Republican does not make you a racist!

I do not believe that Sarah Palin is driving women away from voting for McCain. No matter what the polls say, I can tell you from my own experience the ladies I know are really excited about voting for a McCain/Palin ticket. My sister lives in Ct. and she is a registered Indepedant who normally votes Democrat. She called me after hearing Gov. Palin speak at the RNC and she was excited!! She told me that her and her husband are voting for McCain/Palin. She also told me that most of her friends, who normally vote Democrat, are voting Republican this time. :0)

Thanks for this Town Hall forum, it's great!! :0) It is also wonderful hearing from Laura Bush!! :0) I love you Laura, you and President Bush are great!! :0)

Susan B. Anthony
Susan B. Anthony List - - a wingnut group??? Opposed to Pro-choice....???!!! I've got historical news for "Lone" .... the REAL feminists of this country, that is Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were vehemently OPPOSED to abortion. They did not believe that women's rights were in any way defined as the right to terminate a pregnancy.

I grew up in Seneca Falls NY .... look that up in the history books if you don't know why that is significant...along with the true beliefs of the women involved...because you won't hear that from Gloria Steinem or Planned Parenthood.

Since civilization began and governments were formed politicians have lied.

Government CANNOT BE TRUSTED.

Democrats lie.

Republicans lie.

Read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Stop listening to people that lie to you.

You say "My elected official doesn't lie!".

Have they said that they would get something done and then it did not happen?

They LIED and you bought the excuse.

This election please try to see past yourself and don't vote for any incumbent, including for President. Both candidates are incumbents.

Elect a new batch of politicians.

New people can't screw up the country anymore than it already is.

Right on the money in every aspect. These people on both sides who love to put Sarah down are just #1. showing their ignorance,
#2. showing their envious, an petty nature, and #3. showing how unpatriotic and unamerican they really are by daring to claim that the Obama team is better for this country in ANY way, shape or form.

Oh, and as far as waitng for them to tell you anything Obama has ever done in his career, or any real change he has planned.....I hope you can hold your breath for a long, long time because that ain't ever coming. He never had a plan, only 'a line' and he has never 'done' anything so they can't answer that one either. Their lack of character and ability to see this thing with any clarity is very unfortunate for the future of this country.

Obama's accomplishments, a short list
for the Pro-Choice, Freedom of Choice Act advocates:

1. Obama voted four times in the Illinois Senate against a bill to provide care and protection for babies who are born alive after abortions.

2. Obama co-sponsored the "Freedom of Choice Act" a bill that would make partial-birth legal again and force taxpayers to pay for abortions. Barack Hussein Obama said: "The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act."

3. Obama voted to block a bill to require an abortionist to notify a parent before performing an abortion on a minor girl from another state.

War on the Unborn: 49,523,945+ abortions since abortion was "legalized" on January 22, 1973.

Revolutionary War: 4,435 dead
Civil War: 558,052 dead
World War I: 116,516 dead
World War II: 405,399 dead
Korean War: 36,574 dead
Vietnam War: 58,209 dead
Iraq War: 4,179 dead

Country First!
To put the world right in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must first put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must first cultivate our personal life; we must first set our hearts right. -Confucious

A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.

The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.

CHOICE
Sexual intercourse is for the propagation of the spicies. It is a pro-creative act. If you do not wish to become pregnant then keep your legs crossed. The CHOICE is before not after. It is not a God-given right to kill a child for self-gain or for pleasure. Abortion hurts women psychologically, emotionally and physically. It's a proven fact. It also hurts them spiritually. My mother told me the story of a great aunt that had had five abortions (at a time they were illegal). That woman, on her death-bed saw the faces of all those children. Hopefully, she repented and asked God's forgiveness.---Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air--she's a true feminist-she embraces life with courage--even in it struggles. She is a model of true feminity and what a woman can really accomplish. These feminists that spew so much hatred towards her are proof that because of their stance on abortion, are as I mentioned above, pshychologically, emotionally and physically, and spiritually damaged. If any of them are willing, I would recommend Rachel's Vineyard, a group dedicated to women who suffer from post-abortion traumas.--The feminist movement started with Elizabeth Stanton and Susan B. Anthony--both who were strongly against abortion.

CARE HAS IMPROVED in VA clinics and hospitals.

But, as I said, people like McGOO have spent his YEARS WORKING AGAINST VETERANS.

He has never SPONSORED or COED, a SINGLE PIECE of VIETNAM ERA legislation.

John worked hard to SEAL ALL POW/MIA FAMILIES RECORDS as 'secret', to hide his past.

He has LOW RATINGS by ALL VETERAN GROUPS, those that keep tabs.

Those are the facts.

AND,
Just cross-reference John's downing date (October 26, 1967) with his COMMIE BROADCASTS(November 09.1967). BOTH VERIFIED DATES.

They have the OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT DECLASSIFIED RECORDS, obtained with the Freedom of Information Act in 1991, before John worked so hard to SEAL ALL POW/MIA FAMILIES RECORDS as 'secret', to hide his past.
Transcripts of 5 of the approximately 20 interviews McCain gave his commie pals.

He was a COMMIE COLLABORATOR WITHIN DAYS broadcasting ANTI-AMERICAN SPEW over CUBA.

I choose who to vote for based on the individual and on the issues NOT by party affiliation.

It is one thing to disagree on issues, what character traits are needed and even on wardrobe choices
BUT
The fact that the Obama's hate America is evident in everything they do from their choice of church, to their writings, to their choice of associations etc.

I could go on but this thread is about Sarah.
Her whole life is a shining example of what it means to be an American woman.

To all of Sarahs Army
Their are a whole lot more of us than the MSM realizes. I have a friend who is going to vote for a Republican for president for the first time in her life, as is her sister. They are 56 and 65 years old. Sarah is the reason. I know of many, many women and men voting for McCain because Palin is on the ticket.

The left fears Palin because she has it all and didn't have to abort her babies to have it all. She even, ( GASP ), knowingly gave birth to a down Syndrome child. How dare she! And she has, at the age of 44, accomplished great things.

The days of NOW and Gloria Steinam are long gone.......and good riddance. The young women of today, like my daughter who is 30, are more pro life than the over 50 crowd. Why? Technology. Sonograms and other imaging techniques are making it more difficult to portray a fetus as just a bit of tissue to be flushed away. And the realization that partial birth abortion and allowing babies who survive abortion to die is infanticide. Right now I know of two young women doing everything they can to give birth to babies that may not be "perfect."

Regardless of the economy or world affairs, we must do all we can to promote a culture of life. If we do not, we will become little more than a speck of dust in the ash heap of history. God Help Us!

Support Sarah and get as many of your friends and relatives to support her also. Let's put the liberal anti life agenda of liberals to rest once and for all.

Think about it, Obama has millions and millions of dollars to pour into his campaign, he draws thousands and thousands of people to his rallys, he has the support from well known politicians, Hollywood, and the news media who use Jr. High tactics to spread vivious rumors to discredit the McCain/Palin ticket all the while covering up Obama's shady past.... what's wrong with this picture?

Depends on what side you support since most polls show just a couple of points that seperate them...

Sen. Obama and National Secrets?
Is anyone thinking that Sen. Obama is going to acquire all the knowledge about our nuclear codes, first strike plans, covert operations, (present, future and past), names of operatives and names of cooperating foreign officials?

Sen. Obama is going to learn what Israel has in the way of 'on the ground assets' in Syria, Lebanon, Saudia, Iran! He's going to learn what friendly governments we spy on and how we do it.

Sen. Obama is going to learn everything about our satellite defenses and reconnaissance abilities.

Sen Obama is going to know where and how our nuclear submarine fleet is positioned and travels at any time!

He's going to learn about how much fossil fuel we can develop. How much uranium we have. Every natural asset and exploitable commodity is going to be available to him in binders and briefings.

He's going to learn about every R&D at National Laboratories, prospective and planned.

Is anyone thinking that with this information he can wreck havoc upon a Nation that he has decried in his own words and books?

If he so chooses, he can serve a term, pass information to rogues during or after the term and never be tagged for it.

Would you put Rev. Wright in charge of the above?

How can anyone justify giving trust to one such as Barack Obama in the areas of National Security?

Like the cult of seppuku, we might as well just go out, write haiku and slit our stomachs now.

(btw--debate is good :D lolol)

HOWEVER, we can twist/spin/take out of context ... anyone's vote, opinion, statements, life history &/or experiences and install our own views, take from sites, books, etc and come to any conclusion one seeks.

While we were part of "aintfondakerry" campaign, I was guilty of spreading a letter that "appeared" to be factual about Jane Fonda, stating she took small notes from POW's while in Vietnam and handed them to the enemy. When I handed a copy of it to Capt Bailey, he promptly informed me it was BOGUS and a HOAX which embarrased the whapoozies out of me. Since then, I've found that even Snopes and FactCheck aren't enough to lean on, as it now appears they are in the tank with Obama ... so it now takes HOURS to prove/disprove every subject I follow.

Hope you're doing the same. I'll take your input for consideration & research this weekend, but I have read all of McCains votes regarding Veterans/Military on the House/Senate.gov sites. My conclusions came from that & I'm glad he has taken a strong stand against PORK and unnecessary spending. NO WAY, though, can I vote OBAMA! BUT the reason for this post is to ask one simple compound question:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Which issues do you seriously and honestly believe Obama has a better understanding of and stance, on when compared to where Mc Cain stands on the same ones?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't think I'll get any responses because I believe you Obama supporters just need an Idol to worship and are too stupid to even have a clue of what he is about, or the brain capacity to realize that what he wants to do TO you and not FOR you are two different things.

I just can't help wonder how anyone can vote for someone whom they know absolutely nothing about, except of bad assoications and agendas of which you choose to ignore.

Sarahs enemies owe her an apology for making her out to be an extravagant clothes horse! They didn't do their homework and as usual jumped to wrong conclusions! The Palins are quite thrifty and bargain shoppers. It has been confirmed that some of her Governors etc., wardrobe came from a consignment store! To wear classy clothes and be neat in her travels and duties befitting a VP, she was given what was necessary. After the race she plans to auction them off for charities and/or return whats left over. Pathetic, that she even has to defend against such unwarranted false assumptions, bias and nonsense! Wonder what Michelle and Hillary spend? We will never know because they will never tell! For sure, the prejudiced, unfair media will not find out! Go Lady Sarah

Got nothin' else, huh?

We do not care how much the RNC spent on Sarah's wardrobe, hair or makeup. Do you care how much (I've heard $500,000) it cost to cosmetically "re-vamp" the Obama campaign airplane? Nope, neither do I. Just sayin'.

You just can't stand it that conservatives, both men and women, are truly excited about the McCain/Palin ticket.

How about the Millions the BHO campaign
spent on redecorating the cockpit of Obama's stupid airplane? You know, the one he TOOK THE AMERICAN FLAG OFF OF TO PUT HIS OWN LOG ON???????

For anyone to disregard that flagrant act of wasting money to help salve Obama's ego and then diss Palin for what the RNC had to her do as far as having clothing to campaing in and which she will be donating, returning, or auctioning off later is a prime example of the ingnorant, people who reside in the world of a liberal.

PAUL HARVEY'S PRAYER FOR OUR NATION

'Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen!'

Why is McCain Blaming Sarah for this???
I have been asking everyone, everywhere this question!!!

I can see that John McCain is going to try to blame Sarah Palin for his messy campaign going down in flames! Shame on him! I can't wait to vote for her in 2012! I just wish she had been the front runner! If he had given her more of an opportunity to just be Sarah, she would have run his campaign to victory!!!

She is the one that brought true conservative values into this election! She is the one that energized people like me to get out and volunteer! So why is John McCain blaming her for HIS failures???

Permit me to let you in on a little secret that is often wasted on the denser classes: we didn't care about Edward's haircuts either but it certainly got the democrat's shorts in a tight little maximum torqued wedgie. Tee hee. It's too bad that you had to wait this long to laugh along with us.

It is true, we don't care about anyone's wardrobe, except for the Robe which Barack Hussein Obama thinks he is wearing. Your candidate is suffering from delusions of grandeur. Pet Goat-what are you talking about?
I also pay taxes in two countries, and it's the one that is most like Obama's vision that is taxing us the most. They also like to put the taxation screws to corporations/businesses so we get to pay for all of those taxes too, in the form of increased prices for goods/food/gas.

I have no idea what you are talking about, you are getting taxed more in Switerland that you would be here in the U.S. and you pay more to buy food/goods.

Can you explain why you want to pay those taxes here as well?
Julie writes: Saturday, October, 25, 2008 6:19 PM
Bob Munck, nope
I never gave a rat's behind what any politician pays for a haircut.

What I do care about is that people have money to spend as they see fit, whether it's haircuts, food, charitable donations...whatever they choose. Personally, I don't pay for haircuts at all--my teenage daughter has a knack for it. But I enjoy splurging on other things.

But under an Obama administration, I doubt few of us will enjoy much extra disposable income to splurge on anything, or support our favorite charities.

Yeah, but that was one of several candidates in a primary half a year before the first vote, spending $400. This is your only candidate, twelve days before the general election, spending $33,000 for makeup and $150,000 for clothes. It's coming on top of a whole bunch of other stupid mistakes and excesses, at a time when people are thinking about and worrying about money.

It's just another example of McCain's incompetence, and for some number of voters will be that proverbial final straw.
Bob Munck writes: Saturday, October, 25, 2008 7:04 PM

"I doubt few of us will enjoy much extra disposable income to splurge on anything, or support our favorite charities."

Then you should be angry about the $6 trillion debt that George W. Bush has run up. In addition to whatever taxes you've paid in the last eight years, Bush has added $20,000 to the money you owe. Another $20,000 to that of your teenage daughter, and the same for every other member of your family. Somebody has to pay it: you, your daughter, your possibly yet-unrealized grandchildren, somebody.

You've been "enjoying your extra disposable income" because Bush has been charging to that big federal credit card, in YOUR name. Suppose he'd been honest with you about it, and let you pay it off as you went along, every month. Sure, you'd have had maybe $170 less each month, but you wouldn't now be looking at that huge balance due on your statement.

Which is better, paying as you go or running up the big debt?

You are right that "The One" is full of himself. But I think I read somewhere that the American flag on his plane was a company emblem and had to be removed. Not sure if this is true, but either way, in my opinion, Obama should be able to decorate his plane as he pleases.

If he thinks that fancy emblems will win him the presidency, so be it. If he's right, that is a very sad thing.

I agree with you completely. When I used the word "splurging", I only meant that when it comes to spending the (small) disposable portion of my income, I'd rather it went to charity than to things like haircuts or fancy clothes.

I don't make much money, but enough to provide for my kids and still have a little left over to give to the charity of my choice. People like Bob Munck would prefer that the government took that extra, and give it out willy-nilly.

But my main point is that it doesn't seem right to judge anyone on how they spend that portion of their income which is "disposable". Now, don't get me started on welfare recipients who have big screen TV's.

No, I'm supporting Obama because, among other things, he's going to reduce the taxes that YOU pay. And even though he's pledged to raise MY taxes. So he's sharing some of my wealth with you. Feel free to give it to charity, with my blessings.
Julie writes: Saturday, October, 25, 2008 11:00 PM
Bob Munck, why do you think that?
Look at Obama's voting records in the Illinois State Senate. There aren't many records in the US Senate. Care to give me some?

Bob, you're right. Obama might reduce MY taxes. Guess what--I don't need a tax break! But what he's promised to do is raise taxes on corporations. One I work for! Will I still have a job? He's also said he'll raise taxes on small businesses making $250,000 or more. That includes many employers in this great nation of ours, including some I know who feel they may need to cut payroll.

And P.S. I will continue to always give a portion of my income to charity, with or without your blessings.

Bob Munck writes: Saturday, October, 25, 2008 11:20 PM

"what he's promised to do is raise taxes on corporations."

In fact, I don't believe that he has. He has proposed to close corporate tax loopholes, such as moving their profits (and jobs) overseas, special tax breaks for particular industries, and CEO pay loopholes. If your company isn't hiding its profits in the Caymans, you're probably ok. Obama is NOT proposing to change the corporate tax rate.

"He's also said he'll raise taxes on small businesses making $250,000 or more."

No he hasn't. He plans to raise taxes on business owners who take more than $250,000 in profits out of their company for their own use. If a company is making $500K in profits and the owner keeps it all, he'll pay more taxes. If he pays himself "only" $250K and invests the rest in new equipment, new employees, etc, his taxes won't change. In fact, Obama plans to give that company a tax break for creating new jobs.

"including some I know who feel they may need to cut payroll."

If they need to cut payroll, it's because they want to take MORE profit out of the company for themselves than they had before. They're blaming him for their greed.

You don't seem to know much about what Obama is actually proposing. Where are you getting all this bad information? Obama's tax plans are right there on his web site. There's a 6-page PDF document that says it all quite clearly.

"Isn't that Redistribrution of wealth? Come on, Bob. That's called socialism."

It's called a progressive income tax.

Just about everything a government does is "redistribution of wealth." When they take your tax money and give it to someone to fix a road, they're redistributing your wealth to him. Is that socialism?

So where are you getting all your bad information? I've told you what Obama's proposals are, and you can verify that by looking them up, but I'm betting you'll ignore this and just go on spreading your ignorance.

"I do know about small business and their role in American Industry. Senator Obama has no history of respect for small business."

He's proposing a bunch of things that are good for small business: eliminating capital gains taxes for entrepreneurs and investors in them, cutting tax rates for companies that create jobs, healthcare tax credits, making the R&D tax credit permanent. Did you know about these things?

"Senator Obama has no history of respect for women."

Huh? Where did that come from? His grandmother, his mother, his wife have been the most important people in his life. He has a whole long list of women's issues on which he's made proposals. Does this have something to do with Hillary Clinton?

"Senator Obama has no history of respect for the unborn."

I though people had to EARN respect, were not entitled to it. (And have actually to be people, too. Not clumps of cells.)

"Would you like to give me a report on who it is that Senator Obama represents?"

He does a pretty good job of representing me and most of the people I know. And something like 52% of the population thinks so too. That's 160,000,000 people. Good enough for democracy.
Julie writes: Sunday, October, 26, 2008 12:22 AM
Bob, no I won't ignore it
And I'm not ignorant. Shame on you for saying so.

Contrary to what you say, we already have taxes in place to pave our roads. Most of those taxes are "usage" taxes. State mandated gas or annual registration taxes.

Sir, I would like you to quit calling me ignorant. I have no problem with my money going to fix roads, or bridges. Or sewer lines. That is not Redistribution of Wealth. It is the productive use of our tax dollars to improve our infrastructure. Period.

"Sir, I would like you to quit calling me ignorant."

Then stop saying things that demonstrate ignorance. I corrected your misconceptions about a number of things about which you were wildly ignorant. If you're insulted by that, tough bananas.

"Contrary to what you say, we already have taxes in place to pave our roads."

I didn't say or imply that we didn't. However, it is redistribution of wealth; they're taking your money -- wealth -- and giving it to someone else -- redistributing it.

Btw, "redistribution of wealth" is not the same thing as socialism. Socialism is defined as public or collective ownership of the basic means of production, usually by the government. Requiring some people to pay a higher rate of taxes than others has nothing to do with socialism, can occur under any economic system.

The Bush government has recently acquired ownership in some of our major insurance and banking companies; THAT'S socialism.

I am happy you are well off financially to the point you dont care if the government confiscates more of your hard earned money. If you want to dontate more of your personal savings to the government, they will accept your check. But dont advocate the government taking more of MY money and giving it to others for no other reason than the fact they werent ambitious enough to get an education, perpare for a career and then put in the hard work to make the money themselves...what you are advocating is just plain Robin Hood economics which fails everytime it is tried.

40% of americans PAY NO FEDERAL INCOME TAXES. The commom catch phrase of the libs "tax breaks for the rich" is a distortion, but a distortion the MSM and people like BOB repeat so often, people forget to reason what it really means. 40% of americans have a tax break to the point they PAY NO FEDERAL INCOME TAXES. Any tax reductions HAVE to go to the wealthier americans because THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES PAYING FEDERAL INCOME TAXES. Now BHO wants to tax the 60% that pay taxes even more and send checks to the 40% that PAY NO FEDERAL INCOME TAXES. BHO and BOB call that a tax break. That is not a tax break, that is a welfare check. No one in the MSM will point out the obvious Robin Hood economic plan BHO is advocating.

Certainly a computer systems architect can understand those basic premises. I hope you were better with computers than you are with economics....

"But dont advocate the government taking more of MY money"

I haven't done so; I know nothing about your financial situation. I've simply supported Obama's proposal that those making more than $250K taxable income should pay more taxes on the amount above that.

"40% of americans have a tax break to the point they PAY NO FEDERAL INCOME TAXES."

This attitude is known as "lucky duckies;" Ruben Bolling often does "Tom the Dancing Bug" cartoons about it. The basic premise is that people living in abject poverty, homeless, in jail, etc. are to be envied because they don't have to pay taxes on the income they don't have. Surprisingly, many people who call themselves christians have this attitude.

"That is not a tax break, that is a welfare check."

So are tax cuts for the rich, subsidies to large corporations, tax refund incentives, etc.

Letting people keep more of the money they earn should be a goal of all of us slaves to the IRS...

As someone who has started two businesses and employeed dozens of people, the more money I dont have due to my earnings being confiscated by the government, the fewer people I can afford to pay their wages, their payroll taxes, their social security taxes, unemployment insurance, workers compensation insurance, or contribute to an employee's healthcare plan or 401K. In my business my margins are less than 10% of my revenues. 3% increase will be about a third of my gross margins and I will not be able to hire more folks or keep a few of the ones I have now. That is how you kill jobs and job creation. But hey, why should you care, you have finished your working career...

"In my business my margins are less than 10% of my revenues. 3% increase will be about a third of my gross margins"

So are you taking substantially more than $250K out of your business? Such that line 40 of your own 1040 form, taxable income after all your exemptions and deductions, is greater than $250,000? Because it's only then that you'll have to pay any more taxes than you do now.

And of course if you do hire more folks, the Obama plan will give you a significant break in your corporate taxes (which will otherwise be unchanged).

Or are you going to lie to your employees, tell them that the new higher taxes makes it impossible for you to give them a raise this year? Because you really need that $300,000 income for yourself. Don't get me wrong, you have every right to it. And we have every right to elect someone who will tax rich people like you.
