That Depends on What Your Definition of Campaign Is ...
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 3:02 PM

As Marc Ambinder reports, victory party in Florida tonight.  In accordance with the DNC rules, all the candidates agreed not to "campaign" in Florida -- and none of the Florida delegates will be seated.

Hillary's event technically takes place after the polls close, so this little maneuver is not technically campaigning.

... How devilishly Clintonian of them!

Of course, the goal is to turn this "beauty contest" into real momentum.  Hillary hopes the press will cover her victory tonight, and that it will put some distance between her and the memory of South Carolina (and Ted Kennedy).  The real question is whether or not the media covers it.

My take:  Of course they will!

It should be covered...
as the Clinton's breaking the rules.

A lot of the MSM seem to be drifting toward Obama. I think they may focus on the GOP race and comment how Hillary flouted the rules.

Even Rush Limbaugh said Caroline Kennedy's endorsement brings back memories of a more pleasant time when the worse thing spilled on the oval office carpet was...milk by little Caroline and John John.

2 time zones, folks
"Hillary's event technically takes place after the polls close, so this little maneuver is not technically campaigning."

Some polling places in Florida remain open until 8pm. But when has a Clinton ever followed the rules?

Hugh "Baghdad Bob" Hewitt
Florida is still way too close to call, but Hugh Hewitt gives himself a back door (just in case):

"Even if the combination of the low-blow and the Crist-Martinez endorsements allow John McCain to eke out a narrow win tonight, headlines like this one assure Romney of an open field over the next week, as does the building backlash against the McCain tactics. (See Rich Lowry's assessment below.)

Expect the Golden State to be the decisive contest on 2/5, and tomorrow's debate to be anything but dull." Hugh Hewitt

Does Hugh mean this Lowry assessment?: But [for Mitt Romney] to speak for 50 minutes or so and not to talk about the Iraq war before a conservative audience at a crucial moment in that war is bizarre and just wrong and almost offensive in my view. This doesn't seem like an oversight. He went out of his way to check off every conservative box—except the one that is politically risky at the moment. http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=NTU0NzEyZjIzMTI5Y zZiYjgxMjY3MTM4YTIzMjY4NTA=

Or this GOP California Primary Poll (the RCP Average has McCain up over 8 points now in California): http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/ca/ california_republican_primary-258.html

Of course Hugh is right, if Romney loses Florida, McCain's numbers will drop. How could it be otherwise? And New York, New Jersey and all those other delegate rich states that Romney has no shot in (even if he wins tonight) who cares? Mitt will still win. Hugh said so.
