"Dear Iranian People: Just Knuckle Under"
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 12:59 PM
Barack Obama is drafting a letter to the "Iranian people," which, as the linked BBC piece points out, is designed to reassure the delightfully cordial Mahmoud Ahmadinejad:

State department officials have composed at least three drafts of the letter, which gives assurances that Washington does not want to overthrow the Islamic regime, but merely seeks a change in its behaviour.

In other words, Barack Obama intends to validate the repressive regime that currently perpetrates numerous (and heinous) human rights violations.   And it will make the lives of dissenters infinitely more difficult.

Jimmy Carter didn't get it, when he played pen pals with Iran's leadership in 1988.  And now, it seems, neither does the Obama administration.

Will this letter also re-assure the

Iranians that the U.S.A. will duck and run for cover if the Iranians continue their agressive geo-political goals?

That is how I would interpret any conciliatory movements by Washington, D.C. if I were leading Iran.

This letter, regardless of its contents, will be interpreted as a sign of weakness by Iran.

History is quite explicit about what happens to people who cooperate with tyrants.

B.O. is an idiot.
This guy is dropping the ball left and right politically. His policies are going to fail big time and there is no way B.O. is like F.D.R because this presidency is going to be like Jimmy Carter. Hey welcome back Carter!

I guess BO wants to experience what it's like kissing a**. He'll have to pull Scarlett O'Hara off his first.

Ugh
[In other words, Barack Obama intends to validate the repressive regime that currently perpetrates numerous (and heinous) human rights violations.]

Or, he perhaps thought that, "We'd like to do for your country exactly what we did for Iraq" wouldn't exactly go over well with the Iranian focus groups.

letters to iran?
It's like deja vu all over again!

Obviously the libtards were not around..
when Jimmah Carter and MSNBC Princess Mika's dad ALLOWED ISLAMIC EXTREMISM to give birth to TERRORISM (the capture of our embassy and the holding of American hostages for over A YEAR).

Now Obama is gonna make sure they are armed with NUKES!!

Dread
You might be right. It's obvious that the leader of Iran might not want to see his citizens freed from his rule, nor is he one bit interested in being replaced by a government that actually wants to live in peace with its neighbors instead of sponsoring terror groups, denying the Holoucaust and threatening to push Israel into the sea.
Tazzmax writes: Thursday, January, 29, 2009 4:24 PM
Obambi the Great,
is puckering up and locking his lips right on the nether parts of "Ahm a dim job"!

Fine pacifist Chamberlain POS he is!

Keep on kissin Obambi boy!...the world will love you!
Dread writes: Thursday, January, 29, 2009 4:43 PM
Subtlety
Is lost on some folks.

To explain the joke, if you're writing a letter to the people of Iran who happen to live (and have a close up view) of the country where you affected regime change, devastated major swathes of the country, displaced millions, and invited terrorists to come and fight you there, you probably don't want to say, "We're going to liberate you from your oppressive government" unless you want them to hate you more.

Plumber, thanks for the laugh!
Im' loving your post, "I guess BO wants to experience what it's like kissing a**. He'll have to pull Scarlett O'Hara off his first."

Although I personally believe that her head is so far up Obambi's nether region, it may take military might to pull her back out. Let's hope that is a mission that they fail to accomplish!

Thanks again for the laugh, as one attacked by her spew on a regular basis, I needed that.

Obama was clear - Iran is good
Obama made it clear during his campaign that he intended to directly negotiate with Iran because we are 'not any better than they are' and 'should have a humble attitutude' toward Iran and Cuba and any other nation. So what is the problem? Americans decided this is the change they wanted. It's good to see Obama keeping ONE of his promises considering he has failed to keep any other one, including NO LOBBYSTS. At least, he has kept his promise to terrorists in Gitmo and iran (the ever friendly neigbour to Israel and ever strong ally of USA). It's laughable but at least we can say - he kept his promise! The 52% will enjoy the outcomes so much when they finally get it that the healthcare benefits for mental illness will need to be doubled.
