Save the Debate: What's Next
Posted by: Patrick Ruffini at 1:37 PM

Thanks in large part to the intrepid work of everyone in the Save the Debate coalition, the Republican YouTube debate is back on! The November 28th date, just a month away from Iowa, makes this debate even more important. Good.

But we’re not stopping there. This morning on SavetheDebate.com, we launched a national campaign to encourage substantive question submissions from Republicans across America. This effort has two parts. First, recruiting volunteers to fan out across the country at Republican events and elsewhere to record questions from people who may not otherwise use YouTube. You can volunteer right here. And second, encouraging question submissions through SavetheDebate.com.

Here's the full email Save the Debate sent to its list.

question for my friend, Jack Shiite

Jack Shiite,

You've written each of the last six comments in this thread.
By chance, have you ever considered starting your own blog ?

Holy Moly
I just watched about 20-25 video questions from the SavetheDebate.com. When I saw the Democratic YouTube-based debate, I blamed the stupidity of the questions on the videos selected by CNN, presuming that CNN did have about 1,000 intelligent and thoughtful videos they could have selected but chose not to.

I want to retract that. If the batch of videos I saw on SavetheDebate.com was any indication of the caliber of Americans, all I can say is -- holy moly. We are in BIIIIIIG trouble in this country. Stupidity reins.

It was so bad that I had to quit after watching a couple dozen, just like watching the televised debate. I repeat, big trouble.

No Debates
There has not been a single debate between any of the presidential candidates. What we have are question and answer sessions, often with questions irrelevant to the presidency and/or federal government. I would love to see a true debate in the theme of the Lincoln-Douglas debate where topics are discussed and the candidates give opening statements and rebuttals.
The current process we have degrades honor the office.

The debate will be about CNN's choices
Unless CNN plays this very seriously and non-partisanly (an unlikely prospect), the candidates need to be prepared to say, "That's a ridiculous question for you to have chosen, CNN. Put up something worth responding to."

If the candidates are smart, they will agree among themselves, BEFORE the debate, that they will uniformaly refuse to reply to stupid questions, and no one will try to "one up" another who refuses to rise to the bait.

CNN could be pretty embarrassed if all the candidates simply refuse to respond to a question, and all say, "Next question."

"they've trashed our age-old law and principle of habeas corpus" ???

nope...

no evidence of that crap.

that sounds just like code pink.

Ron Paul is an idiot
joe_sixpack...

Ron Paul is a foolish isolationist, who would have opposed Ronald Reagan, and the wise effort to defeat the Iron Curtain.

In fact, Ron Paul's mindset would turn the most powerful Nation in the World, into a closed memory.

The man simply doesn't even understand how the Free Market works, which helps provide the best quality of life we have in the World.

Nor does he understand the need to be strong, engaged, assertive in the GLOBE.

We take on the Leadership role for a reason, to avoid being prey in the future.

Ron Paul is a joke, and isn't even a real Conservative.

That fool thinks the USA had some responsibility for 9-11.

Pure insanity...

Sort of like your mindless offering regarding your conspiratorial conception of why the USA has liberated MILLIONS in Iraq.

President Reagan would be deeply opposed to your conceptions, and probably be stunned with the ignorance.

Pretending what happens on the other side of the World doesn't matter to what happens here?

That's exactly what the negligent Clintons did...

They actually tried to hide a number of problems to the American People.

Ignoring the brutal murder of many Americans throughout the 90s, only enabling the eventual horror of 9-11.

And you want the mighty USA to cowardly put it's head in the sand?

Pathetic

YouTube debate is worthless
It's a mistake to attend this. They're running for the Presidency of the United States, not Student Council of their high school. What next, they all get to try to dance the Napolean Dynamite dance?

HNAV
sorry fella, you and your kind are the problem with the Republican Party of today.

jtb has it right. We are not going to support these people in Washington who have stolen the GOP for their own nefarious purposes. They're not conservatives, not at all, they're big spenders who have spent more and enlarged government more than any other modern administration of any political stripe.

They've outsourced security at our ports to Muslim nations. They went into Iraq for personal reasons, and for the benefit of the corporations who tell them what to do on a daily basis.

Losing men and women in Iraq is just plain stupid when we have wide-open, porous borders. Cheney himself said in 1994 that going into Iraq would be disastrous, and lead to a quagmire.

If you can't see the inanity in Bush/Cheney's Iraq policy and immigration policy and port policy and their huge governmental increase in all areas and in invading the personal lives of the Schiavos, well, let's just say you make true conservatives cringe.

Bush and his kind are NOT the answer. They've screwed the pooch too many times, they've trashed our age-old law and principle of habeas corpus, and they've let Bin Laden go scot-free all these years. They've allowed the Taliban to be resurrected to numbers never before seen. They've screwed our military so badly that we can't even keep up our current number of forces come March of next year.

HNAV, you are a joke, and you're certainly NOT a conservative. You're a CINO.

Ron Paul is the answer. He might not seem to have a chance at this point, but Matt and others are cutting and running from TRUE conservatives by trashing him and true conservatism. Which is despicable. You folks shouldn't call yourself conservatives, because if you support the fools we have in Washington, you're NOT.

LOL ! Compliments from jtb...
"HNAV, You Stupid Party Hack!
How much of that Fence has been built?"

Who controls Congress now?

Isn't that the Democrats?

And your solution is to abandon the GOP, to empower more of the Pelosi - Reid Folly?

Ignorant buffoon!

You bail on the GOP, Cornyn included, and embrace a Hillary Presidency, and you are calling others ignorant?

Bush gets off his TAIL?

LOL

You don't read either, do you?

"Flow Of Illegal Immigrants To U.S. Starts To Slow:
Mexico border fence and Guardsmen complicate crossings"

http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/02/20/news/border.php

Nothing they do matters to you?

So you don't care about fighting Muslim Militants, who have declared their intent to destroy the USA?

And your calling others a baffoon?

You sir, are about as bright as a dim bulb.

You prefer Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Hillary Clinton raising your taxes?

Cause your upset with the local Republicans?

LOLOLOLOL...

Bush is more friendly with Ted Kennedy and the Clintons?

Is that why he vetoed the Democrat Plans to surrender in Iraq?

You are represent the problem right now confronting the Conservative agenda in this Nation.

Too stubborn, jaded, irrational to see that you are actually adding to the problem.

You have allowed one issue to slant your views so mindlessly, you no longer see the big picture.

Ignoring all the efforts and the progress being made by this Administration on the very issue you see as the center of your universe.

Hillary will be thrilled to know, you are helping her ambitions.

She sure will help close that border...

Someone like yourself, actually gets what they deserve.

Empowering the Democrat Party, is pure suicide.

HNAV, You Stupid Party Hack!
How much of that Fence has been built?

How about Bush, Gonzales, Chertoff, McCain, Lott, and Graham calling up bigots and worse because we wanted them to JUST ENFORCE THE LAW.

Even John Cornyn said the Fence would "never be built" while Bush was President--who seems to be more of a friend to the Clintons and the Kennedys than a friend to Conservatives these days.

I won't even go over the whole Religion of Peace lie; but I'll just assume Spencer Abraham paid the Bush speech-writers well.

MEANWHILE, in Collin County, Texas, the local Republicans have used my property taxes to build "Day Laborer" shelters in nearly every town--even one across from the Sheriff's Office.

You either have a lot of nerve or you're an ignorant buffoon. I have voted straight-R since 1976; but unless the President obeys the law and builds the Fence before November 2008, I'm through with them.

When President Bush gets off his tail and starts defending the US borders and ports instead of outsourcing our security to Muslims and promoting law-breakers as model citizens, I might return to voting for those bloviating illegitimi.

Until then, nothing they do matters at all. Least of all anything they do that separates them from their former base.

Mitt will do the UTube debate
There are no stupid questions, only stupid people who ask them. If Mitt can't handle the Snowman in 07, he has no business facing off against the Ice Queen in 08. : ))
Russell writes: Monday, August, 13, 2007 4:36 PM
I second JTB's sentiments
No fence? Then forget our support.

If the friggen artards would just build the fence and enforce the law-funny how they can find the money and effort to enforce all the other laws mind you-they'd win in November of '08.

Don't want to build the fence, than maybe you can get the illegals to vote for you.

Man the GOP really is the stupid party.
cmoore writes: Monday, August, 13, 2007 4:31 PM
keeping them honest
The drive to get "substantive question submissions from Republicans" - is also a good way to keep CNN honest. I would think that If none of those questions are in the end included then they should be held to account.
Vorpal writes: Monday, August, 13, 2007 4:21 PM
You Tube, shmoo tube
The Republicans just accepted an invitation to their own hanging.

If the left wing whack jobs moderating the debated select left-wing whack job who post questions on YouTube, does it really matter?

THe only way to redeem the effort will be to ridicule the stupid questions and the stupid moderators and talk about what they want to talk about.

No Fence means Who Cares...
"No Fence means the Republicans--and particularly the Administration--still don't even care to made a gesture toward the Conservatives who elected them."

-----------------

This statement is silly...

Almost as if this comment was made by a Partisan Democrat trying to undermine support for the Conservatives in the GOP.

The Republicans delivered the Border Fence Security Bill, and the President Signed it, before the election in 2006, but were foolishly abandoned at the polls.

The failure to defend those Conservative interests in Congress, only empowered the opposite Liberal Folly, giving the power to Pelosi and Reid.

You should be blaming them for failing...

This is the same mindset that is self destructive, and only empowering the opposite of what some desire.

Besides, the Bush Administration has done more for Border Security and Illegal Immigration, than any other Presidency in modern memory, and it is working"

But they won't. It will be a night of nothing but Gotcha questions, from Mormon underwear to Rudy's daughter, pre-marital sex to abortions.

It will also get the lowest ratings of any Presidential debate in history, because CNN is more interested in electing Democrats than making money.
