RNC Rumors Flying
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 2:28 PM
Republican National Committee Chairman candidate Michael Steele blasted out an eye-opening email to RNC members today, days before the hotly contested election for the post will take place.

Apparently, a "senior Republican official"  phoned Steele to see if he would make an alliance current Chairman Robert "Mike" Duncan for election, which some say could take as many as six ballots to settle. Steele said he turned the deal down and now he's being accused of joining forces with Duncan.

Sounds like a set-up to me, what a mess.

Erik Erikson over at RedState wrote today:"My understanding is that Mike Duncan and Michael Steele are in the process of cutting a deal. If Duncan cannot get enough strength to get an outright victory or at least victory on the second ballot, he may swing his support to Steele. Likewise, Michael Steele is said to be amenable to the idea of throwing his support to Duncan on the second ballot if Duncan gets close on the first.

Steele is flatly denying this. Here's what Steele's email said:
Dear RNC Members:

Welcome to fun week!

Just a quick note from me to knock down a silly rumor.  Several blogs today erroneously reported that I am making a deal with Chairman Mike Duncan.

As I’m sure you know, this is absurd, complete fiction.  I’m running for Chairman, not for deal-maker.

Here is what is true -- this weekend a senior Republican official called me to offer me some sort of power-sharing deal with Chairman Duncan.

I completely dismissed the concept out of hand, interrupting before the deal could even be fully articulated, and thanked the gentleman for calling.

I’ve always felt that the best way to deal with silliness like this is to address it straight up.

I look forward to seeing all of you this week.

--Michael Steele

Senior Rebuplican Official-
I wonder if it was Duncan. In any case, this kind of backroom dealing is what has hurt this party in the past, and not at only the national level.

Many of us long in the tooth Republicans have had enough of this "rollover and play nice" trash. We have the answers and solutions to Americas ills and yet the Republican leadership plays nice.

If the party wants to just play nice so they can be "liked" by the media and beltway lemon heads, go ahead, but do it without my money or support. I am ready for a fight with these left wing Socialists and if you do not have the stomach for a fight, get out of the way.

Having watched this failure, of the Republican Party and its so called "conservative" candidates, makes me sick. Get in there and fight with the spirit one of our founders did--Lincoln. As he said--If I have to allow some states slavery or all states slavery or no states slavery; to hold this nation together, I will any of them. Get a backbone RNC and stop trying to be being "liked" so much and do what is beat for the nation.

Unlike the Democrat's Uhs & Errs...
Michael Steele swifly dealt with a rumor by providing the facts and shot it down. If only all pols would conduct themselves like this....

Be honest and Fair.
Good for you Michael. Keep up the good work. Honesty is the best policy. Continue to do what's right.

Steele is going down
social conservatives will never let him have the RNC chair because he has too many ties to pro-abortion forces such as planned parenthood.

Blackwell is the social conservatives choice but nobody else's-the vote will splinter and Duncan will retain the position but cutting backroom deals-just like this one.

Duncan
Duncan IS the problem in the GOP. Steele was very smart to nip this in the bud. Go Michael!

The GOP needs to get back to the basic conservative values that they used to have, before some of the members got too power hungry and lost the vision of what is good for America and Americans and became Demoncrat-Lite's.

is the man,....if they don't get rid of Duncan,...they'll never get conservatives back and they can count on being minority for ever.

Duncan and his RINO pals need to be purged from the party, bottom line,....and will the morons ever learn that the "same 'ol same 'ol" is what has destroyed the party?

I doubt it, but now is the time for them to return to conservative values, if they ever want to succeed as a political party.

GOP/RIP.

Funny,
reading about this reminds me of the feud that Goering and Himmler had at the end of the war of who was going to succeed Hitler to reside over a wrecked Germany.

We know better
Side deals is the product of democrat compromise, by the way an outgoing chairman so soundly defeated should just ease away without any controvesy.

Thank you Michael Steele.. the squishy RNC/GOP needs a little kick in the butt, anyway.

Seems like I remember there being plenty of drama in the DNC race after the 2004 election. That's just par for the course after a couple of shellackings at the ballot box.

If change is needed anywhere, and it is, the change should be to remove "Mike" Duncan from office. Duncan is one of the architects of failure by default. Failure is no longer an option.

I really like Michael Steele and would be very disappointed were I to find out your accusation regarding PP were true. Your source please?

Redeeming Ourselves
I’m mad at the Republican Party. After all the work we have done in regards to Civil Rights for all, we lost the election to a Socialist Black man. It should have been the Republican Party that fielded a Black candidate and got him/her elected. Instead, we sat back and once again allowed the liberals to co-op one of our strong points. Shame on us!

We have some what of a chance to redeem ourselves by choosing a black man as our Party’s leader, and we have at least two good ones to choose from, Michael Steele and Ken Balckwell. Hopefully one of these two will be elected and move us into the 21st century when it comes to running elections. Both are qualified and both have executive experience. Time to redeem ourselves lest our party become irrelevant.

YOU don't get to vote! Oh well.

I don't have a problem with Steel, but I do want to know what his stance is on Huckeles the clown or if he's a palinista. If so, he need not apply. I don't want any bigots of any type in power anymore. Call me sane, but I think it's time to come togther, than keep dividing.

Palin would crash in burn in an job that would actually require brains to do. Her dumbness would shine through, and we would continue to lose. I don't know if you even have reseached this, but Palin DID NOT CARRY THE WOMAN VOTE. Huh. Wonder why? Because we saw through her?

The only reason Palin would "crash and burn" is because of jealous females like yourself!

You people amaze me.
Tea Party writes: Wednesday, January, 28, 2009 8:18 PM
You know
I think the "suits" know Steele is ahead and this was a way to sandbag him in favor of their man. That he didn't accept it put the kibosh on the scheme. Imagine if he had, it would be "leaked" and he's lose votes.
The RINO's are like the gang that couldn't shoot straight. I may be wrong but after reading the piece, that's the first thought that came to mind..sandbag alert.
Tea Party writes: Wednesday, January, 28, 2009 8:26 PM
I like
both Ken and Micheal. And I have refused to join officially because of the submissive, piddlers that ran the party into the ground and the elected piddlers that went along to get along. We still have them in the Congress, Orin Hatch fills the pot, but he's had decades of rolling over and piddling. And now we know why he's such good friends with the Swimmer,
the rule of law is for everyone but those who
is "qualified" then it doesn't matter if you cheat on your taxes.
The Party had better wake up, because they will
be losers for more decades than I have left on this earth because those who have voted for them are fed up with the lies and the scare letters
that mean nothing..same old same old. I want a chairman that will take the fight to the corrupt
9% majority and their aborter in chief.
