Gaffney and Hitchens On Huck's Iran Policy
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 10:54 AM
Frank Gaffney has been cited by Mike Huckabee as one of the two guys he gets foreign policy advice from, the other being The New York Times' Thomas Friedman.  Here's my exchange with Gaffney on yesterday's show (transcript here):

HH: Since you’re one of the unofficial advisors to Mike Huckabee, I want to play for you a little Huckabee quote from, concerning Iran. Cut number five. He made this in a speech earlier this year.

MH: We haven’t had diplomatic relationships with Iran in almost thirty years, most of my entire adult life. And a lot of good it’s done. Putting this in human terms, all of us know that when we stop talking to a parent or a sibling, or even a friend, it’s impossible to resolve the difference to move that relationship forward. Well, the same is true for countries.

HH: What do you think, Frank Gaffney?

FG: Well, for the purposes of setting the record straight, Hugh, I want you and your audience to recall that the other guy he mentioned in this New York Times Sunday Magazine interview as advising him was Tom Friedman of the New York Times. And that sounds a lot more like Tom’s advice than my advice. I think that’s cockamamie, and in fact, I had an hour and a half, I think, conversation with Governor Huckabee a couple of months ago over breakfast, and this was one of the main points on which I tried to educate him, that this is not a sibling that you just aren’t having a good time with. This is a country run by megalomaniacs bent on an apocalyptic outcome, who believe that bringing about a world without America is their god-given obligation. And you know, just talking with them, you know, can’t we all get along, Rodney King style, is not a prescription for a serious foreign policy, I’m afraid.

I also interviewed Christopher Hitchens about the race (and many other things) yesterday.  That transcript is here.  If you are Huckabee supporter, you may want to skip it, as "dolt" and "provincial ignoramous" are part of the Hitchens flaying of Huck.  I don't agree with that, but it foreshadows what would happen to Huckabee if he was actually the nominee.  People who have spent their lives fighting the mullah's theocracy --and the survivors of those who have seen their loved ones lay down their lives because of the terrorism exported from Tehran-- will not tolerate naivete about the regime from the former Arkansas governor.

Huckabee's foreign policy
There is no need to go into a detailed critique of Mr. Huckabee's foreign policy because he does not have one. His notions of foreign relations and foreign policy are devoid of any serious conceptual framework and can best be described as a D grade 1st year college student.

Romney sellouts.
To most people who haven't sold out to Romney since day one, he appears to be a fake. Not just a little bit either. Like bad. Thats why I jokingly call him plastic man.

Romney seems like an actor and an oppertunist.

Romney is going for attack ads right now, because there isn't anything else he can do. Romney tried money, and it didn't quite go as far as he needed, so now he is trying attack ads.

I'm sorry but I would rather not see the same old thing of attack ads because the cannidate lacks any appeal for himself.

Romney's getting busted with his comments about hunting, and his father marching with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. only add to this caution towards Romney because of his apparent fakeness.

Just something to consider and please atleast acknowledge it.

As for me, Mike Huckabee is a strong social conservative. So I'm voting for Mike Huckabee.

Huckster is a veritable fool!
Once I get past the simpleton Huck's car salesman pitch, I find this buffoon a complete mockery of everything America stands for. He got his degrees from the Gomer Pyle school of theology. He is an illegal alien lover to the nth degree--what is there to like about that?

All these twerps who support the Huckster can't really believe in supporting all the illegals--say it isn't so! Didn't we just defeat the SHAMNESTY bill...are we Republicans going to have this illegal crap shoved down our throats again? McCain now has his tail between his legs, but we never know where he really stands...and the Huckster who is in bed with TYSON Chicken King's John Tyson and his illegal alien chicken processing plants.

BTW, all you faux conservatives who are Hildebeest and DailyKos stealth supporters, get thee hence. Your Shrillary will never get elected. She is a phony and a pretender who is a female cuckold.

It is a known fact that it was Republicans who got the Civil Rights Bill passed. The KKK and "Sheets Byrd" Democrats did everything in their power to stop the Civil Rights bill. Here is also a link by a prominent black leader to show that George Romney was indeed a color-blind leader and prominent Michigan governor. It also amazing that George Romney's Mormon faith was never an issue when he ran for President or as governor. Hmmm! Must be the James Carville/Paul Begala infiltrators again on these posts. leader.http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200771220047

Zogby: Huck beats Hillary-mitt loses
According to Zogby Huck would defeat clinton while mitt and thompson loases to her badly

check it out:

The telephone survey included 1,000 likely voters nationwide and carries a margin of error of +/– 3.2 percentage points. The poll was conducted Dec. 12–14, 2007.

Democrat Hillary Clinton of New York would defeat Romney by a narrow 46% to 44% margin and Thompson by a 48% to 42% margin. She would lose to Huckabee 48% to 43%, to Giuliani 46% to 42%, and to McCain by a 49% to 42% margin. The data suggest that Clinton has improved her position slightly. A November Zogby Interactive poll showed her losing by small margins to all five of the top GOP candidates.

Romney Huckabee Giuliani McCain Thompson
Clinton Clinton leads 46%-44% Huckabee leads 48%-43% Giuliani leads 46%-42% McCain leads 49%-42% Clinton leads 48%-42%

Democrat John Edwards of North Carolina would beat Romney, Huckabee, and Thompson, but would lose to Giuliani and McCain, the Zogby survey shows.

Romney Huckabee Giuliani McCain Thompson
Edwards Edwards leads 50%-38% Edwards leads 47%-41% Giuliani leads 45%-44% McCain leads 46%-42% Edwards leads 51%-35%

DUNCAN HUNTER
is the ideal republican candidate but the neo-con/Rockefeller republicans who control the mainstream conservative media do NOT want you to see that.

They want the gazillionaire globalist, Ivy League gang member who will move forward on the Council on Foreign Relations agenda for dissolving American sovereignty into a regional continental authority through trade deals and through worshipping their "free-trade uber alles" god.

They do not want you to see that you can cause Duncan to win. They keep you terrified (and therefore distracted) with the Muslims they invite into the country intentionally so as to rob you of your liberties for fear of them. And they keep you terrified about abortion and homosexuals so you will take ANY republican over a democrat.

As much as these things ARE frightening, do not lose your focus. Steady yourselves and vote for the best guy. They are trying to manipulate you away from the true conservative.

I think they know they are losing their favorites in the top tier and have thrown up Huck in desperation. He appears to be easily manipulated and they should like that.

They are as much a nobody as I am. Norquist is an especially disgusting human being.

It is so amusing how Hugh Hewitt drags in nobodies to prove he is right about everything.

CDubber..there you go again
Ignoring most of my post, taking a small snippet and then assuming Mormon/Mitt bashing where there is none.

To repeat - Romney wants the electorate to understand that his Dad did not march with King because it was Sunday. Even though King (and no doubt almost all of the other marchers) were Christians.

So the electorate then will assume that Mormonism must be different from other forms of Christianity, to be that strict about not even walking a march for a noble (Godly) cause on a Sunday. When other Christians were doing so.

Keep in mind this is within the subtext of your church's beliefs on race relations in the 1960s my friend.

But the electorate also knows there are athletes who work their jobs on Sunday - so there will be confusion. Did Romney truly, really want to walk with a black man like King, but felt his commitment to God was higher - or was he using his religion as an easy excuse to not cause trouble among his less enlightened Mormon brethren when it came to black leadership and equal rights?

And instead of Mormons like yourself seeking to clarify the confusion, you choose to reply as you did.

Here is a hint - if the Mormon church truly frowns on those athletes today, and these men are committing sin in the eyes of God (per Mormonism) then why not just say so? Is that the case. You mentioned "their beliefs" but that is quite subjective for I have been told numerous times by Mormons on this board that if you do not want to live by the rules of Mormonism, then don't join.

So is taking Sunday completely off one of those rules or not? If so, what happens to these athletes who break it?

The post you just read...
...is (a very small) part of a concerted effort to manufacture bloodlust among Americans for the people of Iran, so as to set up the future butchery and theft of that nation by oil tycoons and war profiteers.

Three countries had to green-light Unocal's natural gas pipeline project. Afghanistan said no, so "democracy" was brought to them - in the form of Unocal flunkies Karzai and Khalilzad, installed as president and US ambassador, respectively. Dictators in Pakistan and Turkmenistan said yes, and were embraced as allies. Musharraf and Niyazov knew how to play ball with Big Oil.

In Indonesia, girls my daughters' age are sold into sexual slavery for the pleasure of tourists. Yet you will not find any American Values Voter who dares to call for military action to rescue those little girls – not here at TH, not anywhere. Suharto knows how to play ball with Big Oil.

I'm not saying you shouldn't attack Iran. As a free market supporter, I for one would like to see the American Military-Industrial Monopoly busted to smithereens - and attacking Iran ought to just about do it.

I'm just saying the world is on to you greasy little PNAC'ers. You know, FYI.

I have a McCain theory..
If you recall, McCain felt a need to fight Bush in 2000 by attacking evangelicals - talking about taking the GOP away from the influence of Robertson and Fallwell.

Now we see INTENSE attacks on Huckabee, not just on his views, but underlying that he is an evangelical hick, playing to all the other evangelical hicks - and one must be such a hick to support him.

Well, Huck believes the Bible - as does Romney.

So could it be that as the pundits drive voters away from Huck, they will not drive them to another religious (cough) 'moron' but to the old maverick himself - McCain?

I am an evangelical, and I am no hick. I also am not a Huckabee supporter at all, but I do see that many of the attacks on Huck (by Hugh and The Corner and others) are also attacks on the belief system I hold.

And frankly, McCain over Romney is looking better to me all the time (and I NEVER thought I might support McCain) by the time my state comes to vote this primary season.

Just to put Romney's lie in context
The spinning from Team Romney is making this Martin Luther King story seem almost comedic. The most recent explanations are that Romney was only speaking "figuratively" about his father marching with Reverend King and having seen him in that march. It gets better, "A spokesperson for Mitt Romney now tells the Phoenix that George W. Romney and Martin Luther King Jr. marched together in June, 1963 -- although possibly not on the same day or in the same city.... Romney spokesperson Eric Fehrnstrom suggests that these two were part of the same "series" of events, co-sponsored by King and the NAACP, and is thus consistent with Romney's claim that 'I saw my father march with Martin Luther King.'"
-----

So, in an exercise of full disclosure, I have to humbly acknowledge that I stormed the beaches of Normandy along with Field Marshal B. L. Montgomery and beside the allied forces. Now, admittedly I wasn't in France on D-Day back in 1944 (as I had yet to be born), BUT I have been on those very same beaches since and there had been some veterans there at the same time enjoying the sand and surf.

All this reminiscing also reminds me of another time, driving back home from band camp on December 7, 1941, and pulling to the side of the road and being moved to tears by President Roosevelt's famous "day in infamy" speech. Good times.

You truly cannot be dismissing the significance of Romney lying about "watching his father march with Martin Luther King." Please recall the context of the statement -- it was used to allay any concerns about racism in the Church of Latter Day Saints. Moreoever, Romney has repeatedly used this line -- it was not an isolated occurence.

Also keep in mind that Romney also claimed to have pulled over on the side of the road while driving home from law school and cried tears of joy when he heard that his Church changed their policies on African-Americans in the priesthood. Only one problem: Romney graduated from law school in 1975 and the decision was not made until 1978!

These examples, while perhaps minor on their face, paint a very unflattering picture of the Governorwhen viewed collectively. It demonstrates a pattern on his behalf of either making things up or stretching the truth to such a point that it no longer bears any resemblance to reality. Couple this with his already established flip-flopper reputation and you end up with a candidate that has about as much credibility as Hugh Hewitt does as a political analyst.

What about Fred's claim that he didn't lobby for abortion providers? He "remembered" after the evidence was irrefutable. Seems you are caught applying different standards here.

So what if Romney can't remember 1 of hundreds of events from 15 years ago. I don't remember hardly any event I went to in 1994, or my charitable donations.

When Romney misspoke about an NRA endorsement, he came out the next day and admitted the statement was wrong. Candidates are not perfect 24/7 under fire.

If you don't believe the Romney family or David Brody, (who was covering Romney at the time in 1967) fine. But I doubt David Brody had any reason to lie back then, and I don't think the whole Romney family would have been lying about it for 40 years. Apply a little logic, Jane.

When Romney said he "saw" his father march with King, he meant it in the same way that I "saw" my father go to the elderly neighbor's home and do the dishes, take out the garbage and vacuum. I wasn't actually there, but I know he did it and I admired him for it.

he obvioulsly wants to be mitts "karl rove" but he is cursed. every prediction he makes turns out to be the opposite.

i have no dog in this race but it has become mutiny on the bounty.

hughs girlie man voice getting higher and higher as he keeps repeating " its a two man race, its a two man race"

he has already been wrong. it is not a 2 man race.
the hewitt curse again
he said huckabee was a non-factor.
the hewitt curse
he said mccain was dead

he is like captain queeq from mutiny on the bounty.

seriously though if hewitt ever talks about biased media again i will call the hypocrisy police immediately.

Pub in confusion and destroying each
Well, the Pub purists have taken down Rudy. Others , and rightfully so, have dissected the Huck ala George Will today. Mitt is being dissed because Hugh actually has embarrassed himself over the pimping . Mitt isn't as bad as he comes off until Hugh primps him up. Thompson, well, articles on his laziness continue. Thankfully Tom is gone and Paul will get the whacko vote for a nice niche but will not get anywhere near the nomination, thankfully. McCain, well his past is being forgotten very quickly at least in NH but many GOPers remember the flirtations with Kennedy, Feingold and other non-conservat. views such as borders. For heaven's sakes, where is any unity in the Party? The Dems are having troubles too but they must be smiling that the best candidate against the Hildabeast is sick with the flu and has dropped 13% points nationally. No wonder the oddsmakers are even saying that the corrupt Dems will actually pick up seats in Congress in spite of their incompetence and Republican-conservative confusion.

Sorry, CDubber, but I thought that it was pretty obvious why Big Oil quoted Hitchens' rather bigoted comment on Romney's religious beliefs -- Hugh obviously thinks that Hitchens' bigoted remarks about Huckabee are relevant because they show the kind of prejudice that Huck will face in the general election. But Hugh will not apply the same critique to Romney.

Romney's List of Lies Grows Longer
Seems like this man is incapable of telling the truth. In addition to the Planned Parenthood lie, the lie about "saving" a young girl, the lie about watching his father marching with Martin Luter King, we now have this new whopper:

Mitt claimed he pulled over and wept in his car on the way home from law school when blacks were admitted by the Church of Latter Day Saints in 1978. That's interesting, considering he graduated from law school in 1975....

In new ARG polls just released:

http://www.americanresearchgroup.com/pres08/nhrep8-713.html

http://www.americanresearchgroup.com/pres08/nhrep8-713.html

Mitt tied with McCain at 26% in NH, and in Iowa its Huck 28%, McCain 20%, Romney 17% .

This is a respected poll long tracked by realclearpolitics.

Call this an "outlier" as you will, it is one more indicator that McCain is getting too close for comfort for Mitt in both states and he's going to have to fight two flanks.

Mitt had way more money for BOTH these early states (NH in his own backyard) than BOTH candidates combined, but the marketing money can't fix a product people don't like.

Hugh would be a killer spinmaster in a theoretical Romney administration.

Please, Hugh. If you really want Huck to lose, stopt the over-the-top posting. The more ridiculous you get about Huckabee, the more people considering him become entrenched in their support for him.

Whoever at NRO said that conservative, elitist republicans expect conservative Christians to take a back seat had it 100% correct.

Hugh never blasted Rudy like this. He was nowhere near as critical of Rudy's support of the right to slaughter innocent children. For most of his life, Romney wasn't either (and I believe he only says as much now to curry favor with Southerners).

Sadly, that shows us what matters most to Hugh.

That's okay. We're used to it. If Paul does win a state or two, I fully expect the headline on th story to read: "Romney takes 2nd place in New Hampshire primary. Guiliani third." ;)

"Holiday Inn Express foreign policy which boils down the hug your enemies and invade your friends."

Guys... diplomacy does not equal 'let's all join hands and sing kumbaya 'round the global campfire'. It doesn't necessarily even mean complete trust, hence the idea of verification and espionage.

It only means trying to sort through your differences and compromise on things you can compromise on before you start killing one another in the name of the State.

'Tricks' of Memory
Mitt's seeing his father march with MLK must be seared in his memory, much like Kerry's about going to Camobia.

Mitt remembers this from 40 years ago, but can't remember going to a Planed Parenthood abortion meeting in 1994.

Convinced me!
Dr_B writes: Thursday, December, 20, 2007 12:22 PM
If you don't like Romney fine...

Who are you going to vote for then?

Guiliani? I love the guy but we all know the kinds of judges he'll appoint, and he's vulnerable to being "swiftboated" by the Clinton machine in the general.

McCain? Are you a Republican? Gang of 14, Immigration reform this summer, his comments about the religious right in 2000, and the list goes on regarding his lapses in judgement. I love Joe Liebermann - but he's a former DEMOCRAT. Why is suddenly having a democrat (a good one on foreign policy I'll admit, but a lousy one on social issues) such a shot in the arm to the McCain campaign? Have we forgotten this summer so quickly??

Fred? Decent showing in the last debate, but he's run a horrible campaign, and his lobbyist past makes him very, very vulnerable in the general. (Commercials about Haitian dictator Aristide tend to drive away the american electorate...)

Huckabee? Are you serious? SERIOUSLY - are you serious? Read his foreign policy, take a deep breath and tell yourself this is not an 8th grader who wrote it, but a man who wants to be leader of the free world! This is putting aside his religion-baiting tactics which are totally self-destructive for the Republican party. If you like Huckabee, you're just not serious about winning the general election, I'm sorry you're not.

Romney is by far the most qualified cantidate from either party.

End of story.

(I'm sorry I left out your guy Pauliacks...)

GR did participate in civil rights march
As devout Mormon George Romney offered his apology for not joining MLK's march through Gross Poine on the sabbath, but he made up for it by march through Gross Pointe the next Saturday.

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071220/NE WS07/712200442

"George Romney told the (Detroit) Free Press at the time that he didn't take part because it was on a Sunday and he avoided public appearances on the Sabbath because of his religion."

"Romney did participate in a civil rights march protesting housing bias in Grosse Pointe just six days after the King march. According to the Free Press account, however, King was not there."
The Corrupted Lamb writes: Thursday, December, 20, 2007 12:08 PM
And once again...
Why is it that any post about Huck turns into a Mitt slam fest? I know that Hugh has fallen deaf to anything but Romney, but Huck is a lost soul. Huck boomed too soon, and now everyone is getting a taste of a man that is at best sheltered and at worst dangerously whacked.

I am not a Huck fan, but I am not exactly enamored of Romney either. In my best fantasy Huck and Romney would take each other out and leave it a race between Fred and RG. Don’t think that is going to happen, but one can dream!
VoiceOfReason writes: Thursday, December, 20, 2007 12:07 PM
Come on Hugh
Try to regain some credibility and analyze the impact of:

1. Mitt lying about having seen his father march with Martin Luther King;

2. Mitt lying about his father having marched with Martin Luther King;

3. Mitt lying about how his partner's daughter was "saved"; and

4. Mitt lying about his involvement in Planned Parenthood.

All of this was easily predictable. Remember the lie that started it all? "I have been a hunter all my life" -- Mitt Romney.

Hugh, I seem to recall you writing multiple screeds about John Kerry and his Christmas in Cambodia story. It's the Christmas season again -- lets see an equivalent attack on Romney for multiple lies. Heck, Multiple Choice Mitt might soon lose his tag for being a flip-flopper and become know as Mitt the Prevaricator.

Let's discuss Huck's policy and actions
regtroll writes: "Oppose him {Huckabee), if you wish, but do so in a way that preserves both his dignity and those of the people for whom he speaks so eloquently."

That sound like a good prescription. So let's discuss Huckabee's policy statements and actions." It is fair to judge a man by what he has done and what he says he will do.

His policies:

Holiday Inn Express foreign policy which boils down the hug your enemies and invade your friends."

- Aforeign policy based on his credentials of having a degree in theology.

What he has done:

- Huckabee gave over 1000 pardons benefited the stepson of a staff member, murderers who worked at the governor's mansion, a rock star and inmates who received good words from their pastors.

- 2005 Arkansas law Huckabee signed as governor giving methamphetamine offenders more credit for good behavior. http://krla870.townhall.com/news/politics-elections/2007/1 2/20/huckabee_criticized_for_meth_bill

- As governor Huckabee took spending from just over $6 billion to $16 billion

Brilliant Article!
I have said it...now it is backed up

Hugh, the ROMNUTS, and Conservative MSMers...TAKE HEED

"More and more, the attack on Huckabee has become a not very subtle attack on his Christian fundamentalism. This would pose no problem if the Republicans could dispense with the vote of Christian fundamentalists, but it cannot hope to win the indispensable states in the South without them. This is simple arithmetic. Now all would be well if the Christian fundamentalists were the clueless morons that they are alleged to be by those cultured despisers, but they are not. At the very minimum they have the same intelligence of sheep who, if fleeced once too often, will begin to think that they are merely being used, and not looked after. The Left has long charged the Republican establishment with cynically manipulating Christian social conservatives in order to further the agenda of the vested interests, duping the hicks with promises of cultural conservatism in order to get them to swallow tax breaks to the greedy rich. If the Republican establishment is really interested in self-immolation, they need only give Christian conservatives a good reason to suspect them of such crass manipulation of their deeply held convictions by those who look down on them with contempt and derision.

In short, handle Huckabee with care. Oppose him, if you wish, but do so in a way that preserves both his dignity and those of the people for whom he speaks so eloquently. Otherwise sooner or later they will find another home, and it will not be in the Republican Party. "

Romney lying about Planned Parenthood?
Nichols Gamble (Planned Parenthood) said she's surprised Romney has no memory of the fund-raising event.

"I can understand that he might not remember the check ($150) -- it's surprising to me that he would not remember the event," she said. "His main motivation for being there was a political motivation."

Abortion rights emerged as a major issue in Romney's 1994 battle with Kennedy, with Kennedy warning that Romney would seek to overturn Roe v. Wade and pose obstacles to women's access to abortions.

"My opponent is multiple choice," Kennedy said in one famous debate exchange.
