The garden in question is in a heavily urbanized area. Of course the soil is going to have relatively high lead concentrations. And how exactly is this embarrassing to Michelle Obama? Just more Palinesque drivel from an Ann Coulter wannabe who got kicked off her college newspaper for writing inane, racist crap. When faced with far greater intelligence (Jane Hamsher on MSNBC), like a typical nutter, you fold like a house of cards. |

The only one around here with lead poisoning is Jillian Bandes. No, I take that back. Everyone at Clown Hall has lead poisoning.
How can you tell? The symptoms of chronic lead poisoning include neurological problems such as permanent and temporary reduced cognitive abilities. |

Ok Vlad/Lucky! Tell us how you are not a proven liar by my evidence? Go ahead explain away! We are listening! Why did you post on the powerlineblogforum that Roy Rogers had saved posts of yours from 2 1/2 years ago which were written by the moniker Vladimir Estrogan while you were posting as Lucky Pozzo when making that distinction? Hmmmm? Now explain your lie here on townhall which I will quote below. vladimir estragon writes: Tuesday, June, 23, 2009 10:14 AM Arch "You got pegged for that by the impeccable Roy Rogers and then admitted it."
Lucky Pozzo is an internet buddy of mine. We hooked up years ago, with a shared taste for right-wing lunacy. He went off to a right-wing site and I went over to Powerline, and we would share stories. When Powerline kicked me out, he created his own Samuel Beckett moniker there. He wasn't a sock puppet, he wasn't "pegged" for anything by the child molesting Roy Rogers, and neither he nor I admitted anything.
Lucky and I even had a falling out when I found out he had identified my son's unit when he was posted to Afghanistan. I learned long ago not to reveal any personal information on sites populated by half-civilized right-wing knuckle draggers. That's probably where you and the onanist Roy Rogers got the idea that I didn't know about things that a Marine's father should know, because I won't play your stupid little swinging Richard games.
Of course, you know all of this already, don't you? You've read it all, right? So tell me, what outfit was my son in when he was in Afghanistan? |

p.s. it is in your best interest not to be obviously racist.
When Sherri Goforth in Republican State Senator Dianne Black's office was caught sending the "Hilarious" to Republicans photo Of Obama (why call him President on a right wing blog?) as being just a set of "darky eyes" her response was that she had sent it to "the wrong list".
Maybe you should have one set of comments for non-racists and one for Republicans? And make the Republican racist one accessible behind a FireWall so you can smile at whatever black people are Republican.
Just a suggestion from a long time friend and first time caller!!!!
:) ::hugs:: please don't change! Don't let the PC Police take racism away from you..... |
|
I do not get it. Is racism funny because Republicans do not receive enough votes from black people.
Why do you tolerate "RonnaRonna" and her ilk and their racism?
Haven't there been enough racist comments and actions by Republicans to embarrass those of you who go to church?
It is shameful. |

eyesight as well as non-existent comprehension skills:
"I did, twice. I asked you a direct, specific question about it which you have failed to answer."
The section of the letter regarding the Horowitz body guard was posted in my reply to your "specific" question. Arch is right about you. You are a total waste of our time. |
|
"Read the FIRE letter yet?"
I did, twice. I asked you a direct, specific question about it which you have failed to answer. You and Arch go back to your child pornography sites. |
|
"But even though lead levels in the first garden are far below that danger zone, the disclosure is awkward for a White House which has made prominent use of the vegetable garden to define Michelle Obama's role as First Lady, and to encourage sensible eating habits in children.
Children are especially vulnerable to exposure to lead, which can cause neurological and kidney damage, and stunt their growth.
The vegetable garden was an important symbolic break with the George Bush presidency, and it became a cause for environmentalists and the organic food movement in America who had urged the Obamas to use the White House to set an example of healthy eating."
The garden was just another Obama political stunt that has backfired which is typical of this administration: all show, no substance. Yet another embarrassment for the Obamas.
Read the FIRE letter yet? Arch is right about you: you are a waste of our time. |
|
"That's still far from the 300 ppm that is considered "dangerous," but a bit of an embarrassment to a project that has been seen as a major symbol for the organic food movement and sustainable food production."
Why, exactly, is that an "embarrassment"? Who should be embarrassed? |
|
|
Read Wendell Berry, and maybe you'll understand. |
|
|
Just think if Laura Bush had been in charge of this garden. It would have been played as another conspiracy by George and Cheney. This is pretty funny. |
|
"Scraping the mucky bottom has become routine for wingnuts."
The source of the story is White House spokesperson Katie McCormick-Lelyveld. It was also reported on by CBS, NBC, Reuters, the NYT, The Guardian, among other muckrakers.
According to McCormick-Lelyveld, the "mucky bottom" wingnut in the White House, "the White House will continue to grow vegetables in its garden, which food activists sought and praised."
Is raffaella a mucky bottom food activist? |
|
...and therefore funny. What part of that are you not getting?

There is also alot of Prozac in those waters, so I am sure the fish are dealing with their sexuality issues just fine. So, no guilt trippin. |
|
Birth Control pills...the excess unused goes right down the toilet ala number 1. And in some parts of our country, the fish are becoming androgenous and confused from it. Also starting to happen more to human babies. Brings new meaning to "don't drink the water."
Good intentions sometimes have bad consequences. |

Most of the East coast and Northeast to Chicago is dirty in one way or another. All your creature comforts yo uhad, your parents had, etc. came from somewhere.
Your "recycled" computers had a good chance of winding up in small village in China. They melt them down in bonfires to extract the heavy metals. Then the rain comes along and washes the rest into the local water supply.
So we have just moved those problems elsewhere.
Anyone ever hear about the people in Picher, Oklahoma that refuse to move? Its home to the largest lead mine in the world. There were still about 1500 residents? I think a tornado last year dealt a final blow and got them out. |
|
For the first time in history, some time in 2007 the world went over 50% urban. And it will continue to move in that direction. So does this mean we have a perpetual cesspool?

Good post, and yes, I'll lay off Jillian.
For now, anyway. ;) |

"Just read a short bio on Richard Weaver, seems like a fasinating fellow and I think i'll do some more research on the man. But from what I just read I think he'd frown on your "balls" remark in your 9:08pm comment to Jillian, seeing how much the man believed in chivalry."
peacefrog, I agree. While I am for chivalrous ideals, I've never really been able to practice it in these fora, especially when I'm dealing with women who have drunk deeply from the spring of feminism. And that includes many a "conservative" woman, such as Miss Bandes.
Nevertheless, your friendly rebuke is duly noted.
|
|
I got "gemeinschaft" and "gesellschaft" backwards!
Time for me to go to bed. Egads. |
|
I've read Weaver. I found out about him on my own, not while pursuing a BA. I hadn't heard of Wendell Berry and Rod Dreher. Now I have.
$.05 Poli-Sci definitions:
Gemeinschaft - the condition found in large cities where government is larger and more intrusive because of (mostly) increased anonymity. Cesspools are where statists breed.
Gesellschaft - the condition found in small towns and rural areas where government is smaller and less intrusive because of (mostly) decreased anonymity.
My fear is that unless we're willing to die on our feet, we'll have no choice but to live on our knees. I say that with the full knowledge that Rousseau argued quite persuasively that govt MUST get smaller as population got larger because of the efficaciousness and expediency of small government. I consider the response to Hurricane Katrina as the perfect example of sending in an aircraft carrier (the Feds), when what was needed was a speed boat (local and state).
Regardless, conservatism will die as population increases. Not just politically, either, but in ways that even most liberals will find abhorrent.
PS: Lay off Jillian. It's a "light" story, but interesting all the same. |
|

Once again, thanks for the heads-up on Weaver.

doesn't even work that thing???? |
|
A lot of lead contamination has come from everyday products (like paint) that contained lead before it was known to be dangerous.
It would seem logical that, given its age, the White House would have been painted with lead-based paint many times over. Any person with any concern at all for environmental concerns should know this, and test the soil.
Instead the White House is worried about CO2, which plants need to live. Geez! |
|

would be the first ho', she ain't doin' no hoeing, no sirree!! And let me take this opportunity, well that is since Late Night's, Alfred E. Neuman made it OK to crack funny's about politicians daughters, to make my own funny's about the first ho', and of course, her two first ho' daughters. Yo' check it out dawg, obama knows the 3 rules of pimpin': 1. Keep your ho's in check. 2. Keep yo' ho's in pocket. 3. Always roll with yo' bottom bit.h. Axe obama, politics ain't no different. Hey dawg, anyone check out the first ho', that ho' is broad, baby, a 777 ain't got nothin' on that ho'. I is shor glad, Alfred E. Neuman opened up this type a' dialog, gives us all a chance to be funny like him! Right dawg? Pretty funny..... |

Union solidiers frantically doing target practice there after the Battle of First Manassas. |

Seriously, if this is true then the soil there is contaminated with lead. Given that it's part of the White House grounds it should be easy to check what used to be there that could have left all that lead. When we bought our condo in Chicago we were given a thick book of data from a study that was required by law before the building was built to see if the earth on this site was dangerously contaminated in any way---if you buy a house and plant your garden where used to be a toxic waste dump, your kids can get sick. This is not minor jokey stuff. Once in a while there's a town with some huge incidence of childhood leukemia (or similar) then somebody does a search and finds out there was something nasty put into the soil there.
Is it a bad thing that Ms Obama tries to model growing a few vegetables? I see empty lots and crappy yards all over the place where people would do well to set out a few tomato plants. Seems to me a good thing, like in WWII when everybody planted a Victory Garden. Sobering, though, if industry has messed up our earth so much that such gardens are no longer safe. |
|
|
That would account for a lot of things,Some historians say that lead poisening was what destroyed the Roman empire .Let's hope that barak does'nt take up the fiddle. |
|

ing in that garden of hers. |
|
who Richard Weaver, Wendell Berry and Rod Dreher are?
I don't expect that most of those who comment here know. But you have a college education, if I'm correct. |
|
|
You're likely an idiot. On the other hand, maybe you're just having a bit of fun. Only you know which one it is. |
|
...off the EPA's findings and going ahead with her garden.
Too bad average citizens don't have that right. |

eating pesticides so lead in a salad is flavorful, like bacon bits. |

This news is truly funny...pathetic, but funny...sorta like her visiting the downtrodden in her $600 sneakers. |
|
|
Now where are all those green shoots I've been hearing about? |
|
|
Uh, yeah. Can you elaborate on the obvious? |
|
The garden is Michelle's stepping stone to push fellow Americans into eating healthy foods.
|
|
Given the all knowing, all seeing occupant of the White House's mindset, you would have thought he, the Climate is a changin' apprentice to algore guru would have had the soil tested first. I guess Columbia and Harvard didn't prepare them for that. Does this mean a Hazmat team will descend on the grounds and clean it up..you know if it were anyone elses garden they'd be after them, and condemn the property for that bit of lead as a toxic dump. Look at the rigamarole they demand of us with those light bulbs.
|
|
Curious to learn, since you say you're a conservative, whether or not you've read the conservative icon Richard Weaver, or the conservatve icon Wendell Berry, or the conservative blogger Rod Dreher.
You know, with every passing post, you prove yourself to be nothing more than a pseudo-conservative ditz.
Maybe C.S. Lewis would be recognizable to you.
Then again, maybe not.
I'm wondering if you have the balls to contact me at either of my blogs:

Now the idiot has lead poisoning.
Mr President, fer gawds sake, don't touch the mercury-laden light bulbs! |
