Breaking: NBC News Says It's Not Pawlenty / Fox Says it's Not Romney ...

Yes. It appears Pawlenty was a head-fake. At least, that's what NBC says. And Politico's Jonathan Martin says he won't even be in Dayton -- which makes him about the only prospective running mate who won't be in the Buckeye state.

Update: Fox says it's not Pawlenty and also NOT Romney ...

Forget about tracking the airplanes -- or speculating based on who is coming to Dayton. Turns out, several of the possible picks are flying to Dayton, OH -- at least, that's what MSNBC is reporting. This seems a bit odd -- why have the person you didn't pick on hand --

In other news, buzz is swirling about Sarah Palin. Her obvious weakness is experience -- her obvious strenghts is that she is a conservative female who has run a state. It would show that McCain is shaking things up and thinking outside the box. It would appeal to Hillary voters. And it would completely undermine any bounce Obama got last night ...

If John McCain is trying to take the story away of Barack Obama, he is doing it by generating all this confusion and excitement!

I'm having a good laugh
this watching Morning Joe. McCain's plan seems to have worked. MJ spent the good part of this morning discussing last night's speech but now all the focus is on McCain's pick. Good move! I'm getting a kick out of the fact that the irony of all this speculation is lost on these commentators. This all mimics Obama's drama last week. We thought it might be Pawlenty (ala Tim Kaine) but now Pawlenty says it's not him. So all the speculation is on the woman, Sarah Palin (ala Hillary) who would be a dramatic pick. This is a diversion. Most likely the pick will be Romney, the more practical choice, just like Biden. Kudos to McCain's posse for having a sense of humor.

I agree
with Joe Scarborough that Biden would eat Palin alive in a debate. But then again....that could backfire and garner sympathy from women. As a woman I would love to see her in that spot. As I told a friend recently I believe that, ironically, Republicans will probably be the first party to elect a woman, not the Dem party which claims to be the party for women. That just seems to be the way this crazy world works!;) I still feel it will be Romney because Palin also only has 1 year of exec. experience. All together too many downsides.
