McCain Talks Health Care
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 8:23 AM
Later today, Sen. McCain will unveil his national health care plan.  (His new health care ad is below. It sounds like he had a cold when they filmed it, which, I suppose, is appropriate for a health care ad ...).  Give McCain credit for refusing to cede this issue to the Democrats, while simultaneously offering free market solutions ...

I would counter...
... that availability is also not part of the problem. As far as I can see, everyone has access to unbelievably high quality health care.

Cost is the issue.

I agree that the free market is the only solution. Anything else will kill the profit incentive that has created the best health care system in the world.

I think a major cause of the high cost of health care is not, as the Democrats will likely claim, that health care professionals and companies are greedy. Rather, I think it's how our society has become accustomed to using the health care delivery system.

We run to the doctor or the emergency room for every ailment no matter how minor. And we want insurance companies to pay the cost. So, naturally, health insurance costs have sky-rocketed.

Health insurance would be a lot less expensive if individuals would treat it like they do home owner's or automobile insurance. Let the insurance cover the major, catastrophic costs. Let the individual cover the minor costs themselves.

How to get society to adopt this kind of change is the challenge.

Sounds like
Sounds an awful lot like the romney mass plan...

Ya think?

We hope.
