Bill Richardson Endorses Obama: The Obamaphenom Returns
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 9:05 AM
Yesterday Tom Daschle was throwing bricks at Hillary in a debate with James Carville on CNN.

Today Bill Richardson endorses Obama.

That's gotta sting.  Richardson would be nothing and no one without Bill Clinton, but the New Mexico governor has done the math and seems to have concluded that it would be disastrous for the Dems to throw Obama overboard after his string of huge wins and the expectations they have raised among African Americans and young voters.  The Clintons must be furious.  The superdelegates who throw in with Obama publicly have to think of themselves as political equivalents of Brutus and Cassius --they are striking at the king and queen, and even if they succeed, they can expect the remaining Caesarians to pursue them for a very long time.  The nastiness within the Dems is going to continue for many years to come as the Clintonistas are not a forgiving lot. ("These many, then, shall die; their names are pricked.")

Politico's Mike Allen noted on yesterday's program that the Beltway wisdom is that Hillary has a less than 10% chance of pulling the nomination out of a hat.  With Richardson's announcement as a signal of superdelegate thinking, that long shot becomes even longer.

It is hard to imagine anyone but Obama being the nominee unless he pulls himself out of the race.  Obama absorbed the big Jeremiah Wright hit, regrouped and regained his stride within a week.  Now he will rise steadily in the states where Hillary leads him, and he doesn't even need to win, just not collapse.

If Clinton Inc has any dirty trick left in the vast vault marked "the politics of personal destruction," it will have to drop soon, and perhaps today before the Obamaphenom has fully recovered its momentum.
