So Who's the Pig, Barack?
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 7:20 PM

Today, Barack had this to say: "If you put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig."  Predictably, the crowd took this as a jab at Governor Palin.

So which was it?  Was Barack actually referring to the Governor of Alaska -- and the GOP's vice presidential nominee -- as a pig?  Or was he so clueless that he didn't understand the impact of his words?

If it's the former, so much for the politics of "change" that Barack's supposed to personify.  If it's the latter, let's hope that, were he to become President, he doesn't inadvertantly encourage Putin and the rest of the Russians to invade Europe.

Democrats have had plenty of fun mocking President Bush's malapropisms.  But there's world of difference between obviously misspeaking on the one hand and, on the other, engaging in the kind of "deniable smear" that Barack was aiming for here.

Of course, he's panicked.  But that's no excuse for heading straight to the bottom of the barrel.

Politics of Change
Hey Carol, you touched on the politics of change, and I'm real surprised that more of you "pros" aren't poppin' the Dems on this. What we're seeing against Sarah is as old as "The Taylor Machine" from "Mr Smith Goes To Washington"!

Obama is not Olbermann
I seriously question Obama's lack of discernment in using any "lipstick" line that could appear derogatory toward Palin. Surely he would not call her a pig on purpose. Only Olbermann would be that stupid. But this story now has wings... and if pigs could fly... well the story would make it to the front page of the NYT or Post. But don't count on it. The mainstream media will likely suppress it. But the story could be the story over the story. Does that make sense? If their is a big enough firestorm they might have to deal with it. FOX is.

Wow. Just wow.
Obama-Biden has had a very bad day. Biden telling us that Palin doesn't really love her son? Biden telling paraplegic Chuck Graham to "stand up"? Obama using the "lipstick on a pig" line? One of those three could be damaging, but all three in one day? It makes one wonder what the next two months hold in store.
TrueHawk writes: Tuesday, September, 09, 2008 8:00 PM
Whoops. McCain Used Pig Line Himself
Here is how the mainstream media will deal with this: McCain once used the line when talking about Hillary's healthcare plan. Darn, the pigs wings have been clipped. This just in: the Dems already are using McCain's remark in defense of Obama.

Running Scared
My firm belief is that a person's true colors will come out when they start running scared. When McCain was behind in the polls, I saw no panic. Obama is just like Al Gore, instead of talking about the issues, he has to justify or make excuses for everything he says. I am surprised he hasn't asked for a recount on the latest polls or complaining about Ohio. Well only time will tell.

It Was Intentional - Perfume is for Pigs
The expression is, "You can put perfume on a pig and it's still a pig."

By using the word "lipstick" he either was intentionally attempting to jab at Gov. Palin.

But I trust that the spin cycle has already started over at Obama campaign HQ.

It IS a fairly common phrase
Dick Cheney actually used it to describe John Kerry back in 2004. However, the much more common use of the phrase is to describe an attempt by an ugly woman to dress herself up and make herself look pretty. It has been used by leftist bloggers specifically to refer to Sarah Palin, and pro-life blogger Jill Stanek has also had it directed at her.

From Stanek's blog:

The Obama Spin Cyle on Full Speed
Over at FoxNews I found the following quote:

"The Obama campaign swiftly circulated a 2007 article that quoted McCain using the term “lipstick on a pig” to refer to a health care proposal from Hillary Clinton."

http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/09/09/mccain-camp-accuses -obama-of-comparing-palin-to-a-pig/

Typical attempt to neutralize the impact by equivocating: McCain calling Hillary Clinton's Failed Healthcare Policy a Pig with Lipstick = Obama calling Palin a Pig with Lipstick.

Barack thought that he was being coy, but we're not dupes.

First Comedian
Apart from his pathetic comments, is anyone else getting as sick of BHO running for first comedian instead of POTUS (and not being anywhere near funny in the process in content or tone)? What alternate universe must we exist in where somebody as unqualified and immature as BHO can rise to the nominee of a major party in the United States (filled with ordinary America-loving working class voters)? Isn't BHO running to be POTUS of all Americans -- I guess only liberal Americans that have a nuanced view of the intent of his speech (as if there is any nuance)? This is the most comical ticket I have ever seen and all I can say is keep digging that hole to make sure it is big enough to swallow up the campaigns of all BHO's brethren liberal candidates. Assuredly, none of those candidates will run away from BHO the lunatic (or is that court jester?).

Hazel, anyone who's been on earth for any length of time is probably well aware that liberals are the big whiners of the world. But since I can safely assume that you won't concede the point, here is a study that you may find interesting:

"In our most recent survey, Liberals in general were 64% more likely to report major depression, 320% more likely to report bipolar disorder, 50% more likely to report mild depression, and 113% more likely to report Seasonal Affective Disorder."

Something I just noticed
I was on Real Clear Politics and just noticed something. The Generic Congressional vote is now listed as being just a little 5 points apart. I thought I remembered this number being a bigger deficit for Republicans than that. Could it be that all the Democrat attacks etc. are causing a shift in the Republican favor on the generic congressional vote as well? I wish someone would do a story on that.

Change you can believe in!
"Until now Mr. Obama and his associates said he would put off any White House run until after he had gained the experience in government that comes from six years in Washington. As it is, they said, if he ran for president he would have to overcome the questions over whether someone who had served just two years in the Senate, is 45 years old and has no experience in foreign policy was qualified to serve in the White House."

Obomanomics vrs Kick Butt Mavericks..
It is going to take not 1 but 2 kick butt Mavericks to get us out of the mess we are in. That is what we have in the McCain/Palin Ticket. No nonsense, not afraid to do the right thing, not afraid to cross any line to get the job done and done right, not afraid to go against the grain if that is what it takes! Our economy is in a sorry state of affairs directly related to the high cost of fuel which affects everything from loss of jobs to a record loss of homes not to mention the rise in cost of all consumer goods. We have become so dependant on foreign oil that we have neglected to fully utilize such natural sources of energy such wind power & solar power. Along with modern technology such as plug in cars, hybrid cars, v2g technology ,and regenerative braking technology. We still seem to be floundering as a nation as to devising the best plan utilize all that is available to us and lift ourselves out of this mess we are in. We need to take our closest look at which candidates put our economy and energy crisis at the forefront of their agenda. The Manhattan Project of 2009 by Jeff Wilson pretty much says it all...

are teleprompters allowed during crisis?
I see three main ways of looking at this.

First and most likely: It was an intentional slam on Gov Palin. Even if there was no teleprompter (does he think he will be able to use one with Iran or Russia?) he has prepared statements. So this was not 'off the top of his head'. This shows he has contempt for Gov Palin (and other hard working women ... eg Sen Clinton) and is not walking the walk even if he is talking the talk. Especially since he now is denying that he meant it that way. It shows he is not to be trusted since he talked about a different kind of politics: Changing Washington and unifying people.. yeah right. This is actually probably the least terrible (if that is possible) since he could have said "politics can be rough" or some such fluff. Although he still would have offended a lot of voters he can't afford to offend.

Second: If was prepared but he did not realize that it would be taken as a slam on Palin. That means he had written or discussed the speech and did not have the judgement to realize that would obviously be linked to Gov Palin. If this is true, this is not someone you want anywhere near a negotiation that might lead to a military confrontation.

Third: If was unscripted and simply a poor choice of words. This would suggest that he does not adapt well to changing political environments. Again, this is not someone you want anywhere near a negotiation that might lead to a military confrontation.

No matter how you look at it, it shows he is not the right choice for President. And, considering that he denys the first, he would be a dangerous President.

You're right thinking smart Americans will get, that's why you don't see it for what it is. A deliberate smear.

It does not matter how many times the line has been used in the past. The fact that he used it less than a week after Gov. Palin used the lipstick joke in her speech, either means he's an idiot for not realizing that it would be taken the way most of America thinks he meant it. Or, he's a moron for using it knowing they would.

Obama & wife tired with 2 kids
Obama talking about Gov. Palin said. "She hasn’t been on the scene, you know, she’s got five kids and my hat goes off to anybody who’s looking after five. I’ve got two and they tire Michelle and me out!"
---------------------------

So if 2 kids is to much for both Obama and his wife how can Barack Hussein Obama II possibly take on the responsibility to be President & Commander in Chief of Armed Force of the USA???
