The Media’s Top 10 Economic Myths of 2007
Posted by: Jonathan Garthwaite at 1:00 PM

The Business & Media Institute has released the 2007 version of their annual "Media’s Top 10 Economic Myths"

10. Airlines are solely to blame for the unfriendly skies.
Media myth: Blame the airlines for all those flight delays; never mind the obsolete government-run agency creating the gridlock.

9. Consumer spending is the be-all, end-all of the economy.
Media myth: Without excessive consumer spending – especially at Christmastime – the U.S. economy will collapse.

and eight more...

Republican 'leadership' to blame
For instance, the airlines are part of the bigger, GOP-infused problem. Reagan, then Bush I & II are the perpetuators with their deregulation of the airline industry. Idiots.

Deregulation to blame?
Are you crazy? Ticket costs are down 30% since "deregulation" occurred and the CAB was dissolved. The problem is that airports and air traffic control systems are owned and operated by governments and use technology that is 40 years out of date. We should privatize so systems, like Canada did, and see the skies clear up. Also, don't forget that the FAA has severely restricted the amount of airspace that can be used for flights and remains largely unchanged since the 1960s. There are many more airplanes in the same amount of airspace mandated by laws and regulations.

Deregulation caused airline troubles? No government caused those troubles. I think we know who the idiot is.

Oh oh media!
1. The stock market hit two all-time new highs within 56 days.

2. Tax cuts have tempted consumers and businesses to spend more, driving the national debt to less than 1% of our GNP.

3. Iraq and Afghanistan continue to strengthen their bonds with us as new ALLIES instead of hosting hostile regimes.

I LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER.

Take the White House and raise taxes, Dems.

I dare ya...

Economy emerging as key election issue
Trade, immigration, AMT and healthcare become key issues in 08?

MSN-Americans have turned markedly gloomier about the economy in recent months, a shift that is reshaping a presidential campaign long dominated by the war in Iraq and national security concerns.

Higher prices for gasoline and home heating oil, stock market volatility and rising mortgage foreclosures all account for some of the pessimism, in the view of political pollsters.

Significantly, they also cite the recent drop in real estate prices as a major worry for millions who have long viewed their homes as a source of retirement income.
