Get Your Snob Gear

Support snObama today!

Update: Apologies for the double post. Didn't see that earlier this morning, but it's just one more opportunity for you to go forth and buy the best campaign T-shirt of '08. Wear the message!

No, There Are No Boobs in Cheney's Sunglasses
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 12:05 PM
Though I wouldn't fault Cheney much for enjoying the view, in this case, the view was of something rather benign. Sorry to disappoint.

"Cheney sunglasses," by the way, is the No. 1 searched term on Google today, according to Google Trends. Ahh, the Internet.

World's Greatest Defender of the Jews Now Blogs...in Hebrew!
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 12:00 PM

Despite the fact that no one has spoken out more fiercely against anti-Semitism than Barack Obama, Jewish and other pro-Israel voters have this sneaking suspicion that the Democrat's fairly pro-Israel rhetoric may not line up with his actual feelings.

Whether it's the fact that he hangs out with former PLO operatives, belongs to a church that lauded the likes of Louis Farrakhan and printed the Hamas manifesto in its church bulletin, is endorsed by the world's foremost sweater-wearing appeasement-monger who wishes to chat it up with Hamas terrorists in Syria, or that you can find anti-Semitic blog posts hosted on his official campaign site, there's always some pesky reason for the paranoid among us to question the great man's commitment to Israel.

But to put our fears to rest, Obama is now offering another blog on his site (this one presumably not fraught with references to the expulsion of Jews from any continent)-- in Hebrew!

Problem solved, Jewish voters. It's the Jedi mind trick.

Though you can make the argument that the Jewish vote won't be a huge deal outside of Florida because it's not huge in swing states, when a candidate is on the receiving end of four or five national news headlines in one day that serve to cast doubt on his commitment to Israel, the meme begins to sink in, and it reverberates beyond just the Jewish vote.

Evangelical Christians, for instance, are some of the most pro-Israel voters in the country and a clear contrast between McCain and Obama on that point can't hurt in getting them to turn out for him instead of becoming Obamacans. Moderates and Independents who are hawkish and pro-Israel find a perfect place to land when given a contrast between the Messiah and the Maverick.

In addition, the association with Carter and Hamas is about the most helpful one the McCain campaign can hope for, playing into everyone's fears that Obama's a nice, naive wimp who would endanger us on the world stage, even if he does it more dashingly than ol' Jimmah.

Update: Here's me talking about it on Fox & Friends this morning. Thanks to MRC for uploading, since I forgot to tell anyone about the appearance:

Off the Grid: HamNation Production
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 11:23 AM
I'm not gonna be blogging for a bit, while I film a HamNation.

I got bogged down with magazine work yesterday (have you gotten one?) and was unable to film yesterday, so release day is put off 'til Monday.

Back in a bit.

Elton Laments U.S. Misogyny at Clinton Fundraiser
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 10:06 AM
With surrogates like the Democrats have, who needs strategists?

At the fund-raiser which Clinton's campaign manager said raised $2.5 million, John said there was no one more qualified to lead the United States into the next era.

"Having said that, I never cease to be amazed at the misogynistic attitude of some people in this country. And I say to hell with them," he said, drawing cheers from the crowd at Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan.

Bad, Bad Linkroy Brown

Good news: New UN Human Rights Commissioner assigned to monitor Israel is a Truther. A Truther who thinks Israel is equivalent to Nazi Germany. This'll go well.

Free Pop!

Another benign reference to a black American becomes "raaaaaacist" in Obama's post-racial world. And, this time, Olbermann gets to smear a war hero!

The Obamas are coming for your pie.

Good news: McCain is using the phrase "corporate greed" on the stump. Blech.

The Left simplifies global politics, this time with gratuitous and inapt comic book references!

Perez Hilton really bent out of shape over the-- wait for it-- invasion of his privacy.

Press conference every two weeks for President McCain. Obama, if elected, promises to take at least eight questions during his first term.

The return of the Huck!

Obama finds Petraeus fascinating apparently
. Perhaps he was thinking about the "scheduling conflict" that kept him from dealing with the nation's most pressing national security event.

Medal of Honor Recipient, Michael Monsoor
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 3:32 PM

On Sept. 29, 2006, a 25-year-old Navy SEAL was on a rooftop in Ramadi with three fellow SEALs. A grenade came in, bouncing off his chest and onto the roof. Michael Monsoor yelled "Grenade!" but realizing there would be no time to escape, he threw himself on top of it to absorb the blast. He died of his injuries within 30 minutes.

He is the fourth hero to receive the Medal of Honor since hostilities began in this war on terror, post-9/11. God bless him, remember him, spread the word of his story, and keep his family and loved ones in your prayers.

We must do it, because we can't count on the media to do it. The NYT offered a perfunctory mention of Monsoor's story instead of a front-page story, and has not yet followed up today with any info on the ceremony.

RIP, Mike.

Did Obama Respond to McCain Smear?
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 3:05 PM
Not loudly enough, it would seem, especially considering the nastiness of the initial attack. Fox reported that Obama released a statement saying he "didn't agree" with the comments, and commending McCain for his service to country, but I can't find the statement in print anywhere yet. I'm sure it will show up later, but it sounds a bit tepid. This kind of thing is much easier to hit Obama with than the "100 Years War" smear, which the McCain campaign has already been surprisingly successful in turning around.

McCain's biography tour made an uncomfortable-- nearly impossible, even-- target for Lefties to hit without shaming themselves. Rockefeller misses the mark here considerably. Michael Goldfarb reminds us that McCain was, in fact, shot down while on a close-range mission designed to cut down on civilian casualties.

If Dems are trying to provoke an angry response, they may succeed eventually, but I'm pretty sure some righteous anger directed at a smear of this nature would be enthusiastically received by most normal Americans.

But it seems you can always count on the Dems to miscalculate when it comes to normal Americans.

The McCain camp's response, fyi:

The McCain campaign issued a statement from supporter Orson Swindle, who called Rockefeller’s remarks a “smear against John McCain's character and military record” and called on Obama to denounce the "insult to all the men and women who are serving or have served in America's military."

"Had Senator Rockefeller served himself, he would appreciate and understand that most who have been to war emerge with a much deeper concern for humanity than they otherwise might," said the former Marine lieutenant colonel. "If he knew what he was talking about, he would know that John McCain wasn't dropping laser-guided missiles at 35,000 feet in 1967."

I was on "Reliable Sources" this weekend talking about whether McCain got a free pass last week while he was on his bio tour. First, any free pass from the liberal media won't last long. And second, Obama and Hillary keep screwing up while McCain won't even do the press the courtesy of using his Marine son as a political prop. This is just another example.

The brilliant political cartoonist won a Pulitzer today. The full list of winners is here.

See his work and that of other conservative cartoonists every day on Townhall, in the Funnies section.

I also recommend the winner in feature writing: Pearls Before Breakfast. Stroke of genius on the premise, and very well-written.

It's Not the Lie That'll Getcha; It's the Cover-Up
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 9:31 AM
Barack is now being grilled by the likes of Meredith Vieria about his 100-year-war distortion thanks to a take-no-prisoners push-back from McCain, his communications people, and righty bloggers. Nicely done, guys.

Obama, work on your answer. This is not transcendent and uplifting. This is a lie:

What a Way to Make a Linkin'
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 9:25 AM

World traveler Obama adds another trip to the list with news of a college outing to Pakistan he's never mentioned in public before. He was, by all accounts, the most uplifting and transcendent college backpacker of all time.

No, Sadr did not win.

Counterinsurgency experts, military historians, intel officers, and milbloggers give their previews of Petraeus' testimony. We'd all be better off if they were questioning the general today.

CBS Hammers Murtha's Taste for the Pork
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 5:15 PM
If you've been reading righty blogs, you'll know most of this stuff, but nice to see it creep into big media, even if there is no party ID in the report. An innocent oversight, I'm sure. Very solid little report, overall, and I'm surprised they're taking him on.

Oddly enough, CBS couldn't find the Center for Instrumented Critical Infrastructure, either.

Remember when Katie and I tried to find it last year? Our video, here.

Heston Dies, Left Keeps it Predictably Classy
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 11:50 AM

Raising the level of discourse, as usual.

To their credit, there are several people in this comment thread urging others to tone it down, but they're overpowered by the sickos.

Over at Huffington Post, Heston is raked over the coals for having the audacity to become conservative as he grew older and advocate for gun rights. To the Left that makes him a needy sell-out who got a gig with the gun lobby to feed an ego left empty by a career in decline. His motives, sanity, and moral fiber must be questioned. He's not just misguided, but eeeeevil.

Heston had more class in just his trigger finger than any of these jerks, and he advocated for a perfectly mainstream, American right to bear arms. The fact that the Left equates that particular exercise of free speech with large-scale murder worthy of death and ridicule is a clue to why liberals don't often win elections.

I'll be on the Radio Factor with O'Reilly to talk about the misbehavior of the Left at 1 p.m.-ish I wonder, even if the commenters have no compunction about trashing their political enemies in death, don't they feel just the slightest bit insecure about being so damn predictable? These death celebration posts are like clockwork. Maybe they could branch out to viral video just to keep things interesting, and really put a face on their idiocy.

God bless Charlton Heston, who was clearly a great actor and a great man.
