William on the Web
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 11:59 AM
BTW, in case anyone is interested in perusing the pretentious, soporific ramblings of Obama associate Bill Ayers, it seems he has a blog.  Of course, there's no guarantee that the guy writing is really Ayers, but from the tone and the style, it seems pretty likely.

If this is the kind of hooey that's being transmitted to would-be teachers under the guise of "pedagogy" education, it's no surprise our schools are in such a dismal state.

The Political Horserace Forecast
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 11:48 AM
From The Page, filed under "You can't make this up."
Hillary Clinton enthusiastically picked a filly named Eight Belles to win the Kentucky Derby and compared herself to the horse. Eight Belles finished second. The winner was the favorite, Big Brown. Eight Belles collapsed immediately after crossing the finish line, and was euthanized shortly thereafter.
And yes, this story is really true.

Obama Wins Guam By Seven Votes
Posted by: Jonathan Garthwaite at 8:45 AM
With Obama's landslide 7 vote win in Guam,  his supporters will continue to say that mathematically Clinton can't win the nomination. They've been saying it since before Ohio and Texas so we shouldn't be surprised.  But in state after state since, voters keep giving Hillary wins -- or at least close loses.   Nothing surprises me anymore this election cycle.

Obama and his team may be screaming "It's over--time to unite" but it doesn't appear that a lot of voters are listening.

Clinton was counting on Democratic voters developing a severe case of buyers remorse.  Sure looks like it has set in.

With a win in Indiana and a near miss in North Carolina, Hillary Clinton would claim as much right to fight for superdelegates as Obama.

Call Off the Gender Police!
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 7:37 PM
A piece in the Raleigh News-Observer discusses whether Hillary Clinton is being "dissed" unfairly because she's a woman.

For Heaven's sake.   Chances are, she is.  And there's nothing wrong with pointing it out -- after all the press should at least be aspiring to cover all candidates fairly.

But the idea that every gender-related element can be removed from the coverage of Hillary Clinton's candidacy is as naive as expecting John McCain to receive "fair and balanced" treatment from The New York Times.

Put it this way.  If McCain can't handle the predictable MSM brickbats that will be thrown at any Republican candidate, he isn't ready to be President.  If Hillary and her supporters are going to melt down at every possibly sexist comment out there, then she isn't ready to be President.   It isn't a job for the thin-skinned.

After all, I hear that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a terrible sexist . . . worse even than the vast right wing conspiracy.

Pro-Lifer to Head GOP Platform Committee
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 11:31 AM
Anyone who closely follows Republican politics knows that every four years, or so, there are fights over the GOP platform (usually involving the Pro-Life plank).  As the Family Research Council reported in their daily email yesterday, there is good news on this front for conservatives:
"Anyone hoping to water down the Republican platform must be mightily disappointed this morning after it was announced that staunch pro-lifer Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will preside over the GOP platform committee this year. McCarthy, who received a 100% rating in FRC Action's annual "True Blue" awards, was solidly conservative in his first year in the House. Although he could very well be the youngest person to chair the GOP panel, this freshman could make a significant mark on the direction of the party. FRCA will be on hand at the party conventions to champion basic planks on life, liberty, faith, and family."

What Tuesday Will Tell Us About Wright's Impact
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 11:30 AM
Will Rev. Wright be Obama's "Willie Horton"?  As Colbert King writes in today's WaPost, we might know the answer to that as soon as Tuesday:
If Hillary Clinton scores a victory Tuesday in Indiana, where polls have her ahead, and on the same day comes close to winning in North Carolina, where polls show her closing the gap, Wright will have the honor of being the Chicago preacher who burst onto the national political scene to help derail the campaign of the first African American with a serious chance of winning the presidency.

Of course, if Tuesday works out well for Obama, I still don't think Wright is off the hook.  There is no doubt he has provided enough fodder for both the Primary -- and General Election ...

Tawdry Scandal Could Cost Dems Ohio
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 11:10 AM
As if John McCain's luck couldn't get any better, the Baltimore Sun's blog sees trouble for the Dems in Ohio.

Their political blog, The Swamp, reports a "sleazy" scandal involving Ohio's Democratic Attorney General, "could ripple through the November election with potentially disastrous consequences for the Democrats' national ticket ..."

Democrats in Ohio were elected in 2006 because of the perceived Republican ethical problems of former Governor Taft (including the now infamous "coin-gate" scandal).

This story has been around for months, but is now beginning to make national news.

The Buckeye state is often thought of as "the swing state," and it is often said, "as goes Ohio, so goes the nation."  The prospects that a major Democratic scandal in Ohio might have repercussions in the November presidential campaign is deserving of more attention.

'This Week' holds town hall with Clinton
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 4:20 PM

Politico's Michael Calderone has this:

Hillary Clinton will appear in a live town hall meeting Sunday on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos."

Just two days before the primaries, ABC's town hall event will be broadcast live from Indiana, and also include viewer questions from North Carolina. "This Week" host Stephanopoulos is moderating.

ABC News has also extended offers to both Sen. Barack Obama and John McCain, according to a network spokesperson.

Media Items
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 3:58 PM
ABC's Rich Braham was kind enough to invite me on his program "Unconventional Wisdom" with Firedoglake's Jane Hamsher. We talked about the difference between Barack Obama's relationship with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and John Hagee's endorsement of John McCain as well as a number of other topics.

The segment is broken up into two parts, HERE and HERE.

I'll also be on the O'Reilly Factor this evening with Laura Ingraham who is guest hosting tonight's show.
