As America's 232nd birthday approaches, the stakes have never been higher.

Friday marks the 232nd anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence - one of the most historically significant documents ever penned. What seem like innocuous phrases today were earth-shattering at the time, including perhaps the most famous phrase from that remarkable document:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."

Such sweeping statements had never been uttered publicly by man against their king. Ignoring precedence in Philadelphia that sweltering summer, Thomas Jefferson penned the treatise for the future of all democracies. A future in which America would be the shining city on the hill for the entire world to admire, envy and emulate.

This achievement was not easily attained. As a country, we have faced and will continue to face significant challenges. America has been tested from outside, as well as inside, our borders. We have had to stand strong against these foreign and domestic aggressors. We have had to overcome our own obstacles while helping other nations strive for freedom. And through it all, we have remained one union, striving to achieve the democratic ideals of America’s forefathers.

As the 21st century begins, America faces some of its greatest challenges yet. This Friday, as they do every day, our brave men and women are fighting around the world to ensure our freedom and to expose people to democracy and freedoms that only existed in their wildest dreams. Freedoms they dared not publicly speak of for fear of retribution; freedoms most Americans take for granted. On America’s Day of Independence it is important to remember that for many around the world, freedom is a gift that needs to be cradled while still in its infancy. Our country has a duty to help them care and nurture that gift through such difficult transitional periods.

While we count our blessings here in America, there are still several challenges facing our great land. Economic growth is slowing as gas prices continue to rise. We must work together to grow jobs and economic opportunities and find solutions to lower energy prices. Slogans and arrogance are not the answers to our problems. American ingenuity has allowed us to rise to meet all challenges in the past and will do so again. But it takes time and we need to work together towards short-term solutions while simultaneously working towards our long-term goals. It’s a tough job, but that's the American way.

In addition to rising to meet our challenges, we must continue to be ever-vigilant in the defense of our own basic freedoms. Big government is not the answer, it's the problem. It is imperative to have a robust Republican presence in the Senate to ensure individual freedoms, such as: the right to choose your own physician; the right to keep your hard-earned money and not have it reapportioned by the government; and your right to know your government is doing everything in its power to protect and defend our nation from aggressors.

Without a robust Republican presence in the Senate, and the unfortunate possibility of Democrat control of the other branches of government, these rights will be in jeopardy. Not to mention the expected payback to Big Labor when Democrats eliminate secret ballot elections, while continuing to slash funding for investigating union corruption. This is not the freedom our Founders envisioned when they risked life and limb to establish our great Republic. And it is not the freedom Americans should have to settle for today. This is not the change we deserve.

America was founded to be the freest nation on earth, a small government deriving its power from the consent of the governed. Today, that freedom is in grave danger as the forces of big government threaten to reign in your freedoms. Democrats continue to believe government is the solution, and they know best for each person. I, along with Senate Republicans, disagree. I believe people know what's best for them and what's best for their government.

America continues to be the greatest country on earth, but the work is never over. As Ronald Reagan said:

"Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same."

The fight for freedom is never-ending and the stakes have never been higher. Difficult choices must always be made, and in November the choice is clear, the choice is Republican.

With that, I will end by saying Happy Birthday America, may your greatness shine for many more centuries. Happy Fourth of July to you, your families and friends, and I hope you all have a happy and safe holiday.

Pray For The American Warrior
The American Warrior is someone who is walking the hero's path. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness.

The American Warrior is someone who frightens many people because they live in denial of reality, the American Warrior reminds those people that violence exists in the world.

The American Warrior has the capacity for violence towards those who threaten America and the American way of life.

The American Warrior is a constant reminder that there are terrorists in the land and those that wish to destroy America are already here on American soil.

The American Warrior on September 11, 2001, rushed towards the danger instead of fleeing from it, intent on defending and helping those American citizens in danger. Many American Warriors gave their lives that day.

Most Americans are glad that they were not on the planes that crashed into the WTC and the Pentagon - the American Warrior wished they had been on those planes because they might have made a difference.

American Warriors were on United Airlines Flight 93 and defended unto death America and its citizens with the cry "lets roll".

The American Warrior was at her Church when she heard gunfire. Drawing her weapon she entered a hallway filled with evil. She determined that her fellow worshippers would not die that day. With icy bravery she stood her ground with a single weapon and destroyed evil that had multiple weapons and a 1000 rounds of ammunition.

The American Warrior waits for the day that they have lived for and trained for their entire life - to defend until death, America and its citizens.

This 4th of July, I salute the American Warrior, both living and dead. Men and women who serve in the Armed Forces, Police Forces, Fire Departments and ordinary civilians who rush forward to our defense instead of running from danger.

The American Warrior who wishes no harm to America - God Bless You!

Reporting from the left coast
We are traveling in California. The first thing we saw at our first stop was a statue of an Indian slumped over on a horse with a spear through his back. We looked at each other and asked "Are we supposed to feel guilty?" It didn't take long before we realized we were in a foreign country. We couldn't find anyone who spoke English. However, one thing did tell us that we were still in the US. There are trailers everywhere. We got a good laugh out of that because we have been mocked by liberals for so long regarding trailer living in the South. Now, we find out that there are just as many trailers in California as there are anywhere else in the country. Personally, I see nothing wrong with trailer living, since it is merely a sign of low income. Nothing wrong with someone living with modest means, but liberals who pride themselves on being sensitive to the poor are the ones who make fun of someone who can only afford to live in a trailer. Apparently, there are poor people in every state, including California.

Last night, we were struck by the fact that there was not one single display of fireworks, not city-sponsored nor isolated fireworks by neighborhood residents. There has not been any American flags in the downtown area or on residential houses as we are accustomed to seeing in Tennessee. There was just a total absence of excitement over the birthday of our nation. Finally this morning on a popular radio talk show, it all came to head. The host played the Star-Spangled Banner. His reason for playing the national anthem was NOT to show pride, but to convince the audience that the national anthem should be changed to another song. He said the Star-Spangled Banner is all about fighting, and to him, that is not what we should portray to the world. I am not kidding. Fortunately for us, we will be moving back to the US in a few weeks and leave this foreign country behind.

In the course of your many pedantic diatribe you tend to reiterate a supposed disparity towards the Bush Administration and the United States of America. Due to the miracle of the Internet I listen constantly - with digital quality - to classical music from a station in London England which on the Fourth of July will celebrate our "Independence Day". In my many months listening to this wonderful source of music never have I heard a dispirited word, phrase or comment directed against anything American. That said, my request of you is to cease further any reference from unnamed foreign sources that speak poorly of the greatness of my country. There is nothing respectful from spreading false rumor.

and at a rally today Obama told the people attending "it is not our military that makes America great".

Well Obama, if it were not for our military keeping your sorry as- safe and free, you would not be able to run for President, a position you are not fit for.

This country has endured and to the greatest experiment in self-government I wish it VERY Happy Birthday.
We've seen citizens come along way since 1776 we're the greatest inventors, capitalist and freedom lovers on earth.
My ancestors fought in the American Revolution and in every war since, we fought on both sides of the War Between the States. I have a immense pride in them, the good, (Daniel Boone) the horrible (James Buchanan) and everyone in between before and after.

As a woman, I take exception to your comments. They are out of place and in bad taste.

What other country in the world offers women the opportunities we have in America?! Where else can women stand up and fight their own degradation?

You come off (and yes, I did visit the website) as a parasite on the gravy train of the martyr/victim mentality that brainwashes certain segments of our population into enslavement.

This enslavement has NOTHING AT ALL to do with being in America; it is real only because it is so fervently imagined and cultivated. This mentality become reality effectively derails people in their pursuit of the American Dream, wasting energies on self-pity and blame rather than hard work and personal responsibility.

There is no other country in the world where the personal power of women has more opportunity to flourish. And we don't need any opportunists trying to "help" us!!

And btw, our greatest enemy right now would have me stoned in public as an example to others for being so outspoken.

Unlike the Great Satan...
...my great-whater grandmather was sentenced to be hanged by a Glouchester judge for robbing an old man of his life savings to buy ale at the pub. The sentence was commuted and my ancestor arrived in America in a prison ship in 1774 courtesy of the crown.

(Two years later he would have ended up in Australia.)

He fought the British in the Revolution, received free land in Ohio and became a model citizen.

It's the classic America story of deliverence and redemption. Happy Birthday, America! We love you!

Happy Birthday, America! What are we now, let's see, two hundred and...232 years old. That's a lot of firecrackers.

The Great Satan, whose screen name cracks me up, thank you for sharing your story with us on this occasion. May we never forget the collectivist menaces our nation faced even as we outlived them. Glad you made it over.

My family and I emigrated from the USSR [Brezhnev-Nixon agreement allowing Jews to leave from behind the Iron Curtain] and before we left many pleaded with my family not to go. Soviets were fed Anti-American propaganda incessantly [foreign media was banned] and many were brainwashed into thinking America was a horrible place- this coming from those who lived under Stalin. In the late 80’s some of our friends and relatives who refused to flee when they had the opportunity came to visit. We took them to a grocery store that most of us never give a second thought to. These Russians wept at what they saw. Fresh produce stacked of all varieties, canned goods for days, delis stocked with fresh meats. This was unbelievable to them; at that moment they realized how inhumanely they were deprived under the communists.

God bless America; the Greatest Nation in the history of Man.
