Will Congress pass Obamacare by the end of the year?

Until last night, when I watched the Republican debate, I had no idea how much John McCain dislikes me and just about everybody else but Rudy Giuliani, who if you believe The New York Times is a pretty good hater himself.

As I watched McCain and Governor Romney go at it during the debate at the Reagan Library I was struck by the huge gap that separates McCain -- whose contempt for his fellow humans is patently obvious -- and my dad, Ronald Reagan, who had nothing but the deepest affection and respect for the American people.

The feeling is mutual between McCain and me. I don’t like the way he treats people. You get the impression that he thinks everybody is beneath him. He seems to be saying, “I was a war hero, and you had damn well better treat me as your superior.”

He has contempt for conservatives who he thinks can be duped into thinking he’s one of them, despite such blatantly anti-conservative actions as his support for amnesty for illegal immigrants, his opposition to the Bush tax cuts which got the economy rolling again, and his campaign finance bill which skewed the political process and attacked free speech.

I am appalled by his contempt for the intelligence of his listeners when he flat-out lies and expects them to believe what he says even when the truth is staring them in the face.

A prime example cited by columnist Robert Novak was McCain’s denial that he had privately suggested that Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was too conservative, insisting that he recalled saying no such thing, adding that Alito was a "magnificent" choice.

“In fact,” wrote Novak, “multiple sources confirm that the senator made negative comments about Alito nine months ago.”

In last night’s debate, McCain stubbornly defended his charge, false on the face of it, that Romney wanted a deadline for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq.

"I have never, ever supported a specific timetable" for withdrawing troops, Romney said, adding that McCain's accusation on the eve of Tuesday's primary "sort of falls into the dirty tricks that I think Ronald Reagan would have found reprehensible."

What Romney said last April, was merely that U.S. and Iraqi leaders "have to have a series of timetables and milestones that they speak about" in private, which in no way suggests he was in any sense talking about troop withdrawals.

Despite the evidence, McCain charged that "of course he said he wanted a timetable" for a withdrawal, even though he had never said any such thing. It was McCain daring to ask us if we wanted to believe our lying eyes or his demonstrably false allegation.

McCain must think conservatives are dumb enough to allow him to get away with claiming he’s one of them. This is from a man who opposed drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska and who twice voted against President Bush’s tax cuts and sponsored the campaign-finance reform legislation that Romney claimed "took a whack at the First Amendment."

In John McCain’s eyes, conservatives are the Viet Cong of this generation and he treats us as such. It’s either his way or no way.

I despise his habit of talking down to us, like a wise father to an idiot son. He’s just at a loss to understand why everybody doesn’t grovel at his feet and accept his every word as wisdom handed down from his lofty perch atop Mt. Olympus.

I can’t help it. I know in my heart he hates me, and every conservative. If he gets the nomination the only way he could win against Hillary or Barack Obama would be to be part of a McCain-Limbaugh ticket.

About The Author
Michael Reagan, the eldest son of Ronald Reagan, is heard daily by over 5 million listeners via his nationally syndicated talk radio program, “The Michael Reagan Show.”
Don't Take It Personally
I wouldn't take it too personally, Michael. Looks like McCain hates the Right in general.

I'm an Independent. I've decided I can't vote Democrat in November because (1) The Dems have gone off the deep end, and (2) They're going to make even more gains in the Congress, and I don't want either party having too much power.

But I swear - it seemed like McCain was laughing at conservatives last night, mocking them.

If this is the best the GOP has to offer this year, we may as well prepare for a Western European-model socialist democracy. The Dems have the momentum now -- McCain certainly wouldn't stop them, and Romney would have zero chance in the general election.

John McCain
Michael, absolutely right. McCain is a disaster for Conservaties and for the Republican Party. Despite his much respected heroism during the Vietnam war, I will vote against him every time I have a chance.

You Are Correct
I caught his dirty tactics last night when he manipulated and purposefully mis-interpreted Mitt's meaning of time tables. Mitt never once wanted to push a date of withdraw. What he made clear, there is no sense to publically vote on a troop withdraw and allow our enemies to wait in the brush, while our enemies gather resources and get stronger.

I watch all the debates, some of us do, and those of us know what McCain did was deplorable. To outwardly lie and twist truths in order to curry voter favor.

On Tuesday, it's my turn to vote and I'm voting for Romney. What will make me sick to my stomach is finding out that McCain was vastly in the lead.

I know I do not want Hillary or Obama in office, that's a given...But how can I pull the lever for McCain during the general election? I suppose I must, to avoid Hillarycare or Obama's ultimate change placed upon our paychecks with more entitlement tax dollars being usurped from us all.

I feel sick.

John McCain hates me, too
Michael Reagan has it EXACTLY right about John McCain.
I have been struggling with feelings of outrage, disgust, frustration, and agitation over everything about McCain. His actions, his bedfellows, his rude and crude temperament, that sickening false and condescending smirk on his face when others are speaking, his pompous speech...this person is aspiring to be our respected and trusted LEADER? He scolds whoever does not agree with him. I do not agreee with him, and I am an adult who BRISTLES at being scolded.
I am sending the article to every one I can.

Thank you, Mr. Reagan.

Endorse Romney
Michael--There's something you need to do. I don't recommend this lightly but I believe it imperative. Publicly endorse Mitt Romney for President. I hope you'll consider what I'm saying.

McCain loses - guaranteed
I'm still hoping the conservative voters across America give the nod to Romney. I can definitely vote for Mitt.

I won't vote for McCain...he is on his own if he gets the nod. I believe the GOP will be better energized toward conservatism if the Dem's get the whitehouse than if McCain does.

Many conservatives agree with me...If McCain gets the nod, his only hope for a November victory is if the number of moderates and independents voting for him outnumber the conservatives who stay home. (And I'd bet the farm THAT isn't going to happen.)

Your father would be proud
This may be your best column ever Michael, and it came at a critical time. Your father would be proud. Blood runs true.

Michael
Ditto on Coffee260!!

Michael - Endorse Romney. You can definitely imact this race if you act quickly.

Vote McCain? Just say NO.
McCain is acting more like a liberal everyday. Just look at one of the first exchanges between him and Romney. McCain stated alleged past Romney wrongs as Governer (raising fees, job loss...etc), and then the Mittster came back and shot down every single one. We can only hope that the voters will open their eyes, see McCain for the hating liberal that he is, and vote for Romney. Thank Mr. Reagan.

Your comments give hope.
Mr. Reagan,
Your comments couldn't come at a more crucial time. Where have we gone as a party? Your father would be by your side in your argument.
I agree that a public endorsment would begin to upright the sinking Republican cause.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
God speed.

GREAT article Mr. Reagan.
You have described it perfectly! Although I would add that I don't think McCain needs a McCain/Limbaugh ticket to beat Hillary or Obama. Right now I think there are enough liberals (along with the moderates and independents) who WILL vote for him, and they will put this despicable, hateful, condescending, pitiful, mean spirited, liar in the White House regardless of how many conservatives (like me) who stay home of leave that part of the ballot blank/write in Romney. What I don't understand is why the GOP intends to implode itself with their forcing McCain to be the nominee.

McFraud the 'lieberal'
Good column, Michael. McFraud seems like a senile, bad-tempered lieberal similar to Ted Kennedy -- maybe that's why they work so well together.
"'NUFF SAID"
There was an old man who dwelt in Maine,
Who loved to stand naked out in the rain,
When asked Why?, Could he please explain?
He replied: I'm a follower of John McCain!

Did he really say that?
Did I really hear John McCain say that he would fix the housing crisis by not allowing banks to loan money to people who couldn't pay it back????
I watched the debate twice and I still can't believe he actually said that, but I'm sure I couldn't have misunderstood him twice. Didn't Congress make the banks lower the criteria so that more people could own homes? Or am I just too dumb to understand what I'm hearing?

Anti-liberal hatred
I am positive that McCain dislikes anti-liberals like Reagan, but I think he's OK with conservatives.

Oh sure, Romney talked about timetables at the time when timetables meant nothing other than troop withdrawals. McCain's right on that point. I suppose anti-liberals thought "timetable" meant something completely different. What was the anti-liberal consequence of not meeting Romney's timetables? The timetables he wanted us to set back in early 2007? Oh, troop withdrawal.

I think anti-liberals are furious with the Republican voter. They hate the average Republican voter. They hate their judgement. They hate the fact that they are losing their power. They hate that most of all.

Sean Hannity
Did I just hear correctly that Sean Hannity just endorsed Mitt Romney on his radio program?

Public Endorsement
You want to win real conservatism from the clutches of an McAmnesty, please publicly endorse him!! It will be the only true message.

-Jason

Mitt please!!!
Thank you Michael,

You stated so much of what I was thinking about during the debate so well.

Pleeeeeaaaaase endorse Romney. He certainly has his flaws, but his positives are so incredible. He's our only chance.

Mr. Reagan: Please Endorse Mitt Romney
I am on board with everyone here who has written that Michael has given us hope, that his father would be proud of him, and that he should publicly endorse Mitt Romney for President.
It would be a huge, fantastic, true endorsement...one that would resonate across this country.
I just went to Michael's website, and sent hims an eomail, pleading with him to endorse Mitt.
If you feel as strongly as I do, and would like to flood his mailbox with support, here is the link to write to him: http://www.reagan.com/email.cfm

Let us RISE UP, people!!

What a joke
How very ironic that you talk about a wise father and an idiots son. I'm certain your father would have endorsed McCain in a second and would be appalled that a used car salesman like Romney is actually even being considered in his party.

Seriously, McCain has a 82 rating from the ACU, ie he's a very reliable conservative. Character also matters and one would have to be pretty stupid to believe Mitt Romney is an actual conservative. He'll say anything to get elected and everyone knows it. I don't want the Democrat version of Hillary Clinton in my party.

Endorsements galore!
Yes, it is true: Sean Hannity officially, publicly Endorsed Mitt Romney for President today on his radio show!
Mark Levin officially endorsed Mitt Romney for President today!
I am going to write letters of thanks to these gentlemen. I am going to suggest they encourage Michael Reagan and Laura Ingraham to publicly endorse Mitt Romney for President.

Let us RISE UP, people!!

Funny Stuff
Is it possible that a talking head is upset about "hate"? Come now, Michael, the only hatred I've been privy to lately has been the hatred you so-called right-wing pundits have for John McCain. It's absolutely laughable that you or any of the other talk-show knuckleheads would cry foul, when you've made hatred your stock and trade anymore. Some advice:

1) Don't throw stones in the glass houses that you, Rush, Sean, and other far righties have made for yourselves.

2) Respect your father's 11th commandment, and don't personally go after the man who will be our nominee. All you're doing with your hate-talk is pushing people away from the Republican Party, and helping to put a Democrat in the White House.

We feel the same way!
Thank you Michael for writing this article.

We are voting for Romney!!

He hates us all
And we hate him. 2008 is going to be the worst year ever for the GOP if McCain is on our ticket somehow.

In the aftermath, we will need to reorganize our party and tighten up our Primary so that ONLY Republicans can vote. Let McCain run for the DNC spot where he belongs.

John should be ashamed
I remember 8 years ago John McCain made allegations before the South Carolina primary that GWB's campaign had been making phone calls about a supposed "love child" of John McCain. (no evidence of a single call was ever made by the way only McCain's allegations that it happened. In the next debate, he told Pres Bush that he should be ashamed for his actions. Now he is putting words into Mitt Romney's mouth. I see a pattern, blaming your opponent for saying things they didn't say. This from "Honest John" You should be ashamed John McCain because we are starting to see you are not as honest as we thought.

our nominee?
I admire McCains sacrifices and honerable service in the military, but

Speak for yourself!

It's McCains "conservative principals" that lead to MF, MK, the gang of 14....please tell me how you believe that those positions are conservative. His public remarks about Alito say it all..."he wears his conservatism on his sleave".......WHAT's WRONG WITH THAT...siding with the constitution?? Please, the only glass house is the facad that McAmnesty holes up in to fool the rest of the republicans that he is actually worth a vote for the Presidency.

well, inhale,
This is Nathan Hale speaking.

On the gang-of-14, you might be glad of the right to filibuster, when O Bama appoints the lovely the amazing the head of the ACLU....

Barry Lynn!
(applause from Hollywood)

A Glimmer of hope
Remains that Mitt can come back, but it's honestly fading quickly. Perhaps the best way to breath life back into Romney's chances is to realize and be quite vocal about treating McCain like he treats us. If he's nominated, cross the isle and vote Democrat.

I know it's hard to swallow, but the Conservative movement is more important than an election, even more important than a single battle in the War on Terror.

I've outlined a reasoned argument why voting Democrat against McCain is a prudent choice in November. If this logic becomes prevalent it shoots a big hole in the "He can beat Hillary" logic.

http://drilldown.townhall.com/Default.aspx

I was a Thompson gal...
I feel much like I do when I go to my mother’s house and she’s not there. I’m not really comfortable. Oh, it’s not as though I’m breaking and entering, but without her that house is just a shell. I feel...disconnected.

Same as now when I think about the upcoming presidential election.

Fantastic article, Mr. Reagan. Your father is so very proud of you. I can't wait to meet him in Heaven some day.

McCain
Excellent comments, Michael. You can judge a man's character by his actions and McCain's leave much to be desired. Dishonesty, subterfuge, and many more nouns describe this intruder into Republican politics. We can take a little solace in the fact that if McCain's the nominee, the media will turn on him instantly and grind him to dust. We'll be looking at Bob Dole II without the class.

How about this....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioy90nF2anI&feature=related

McCain hates Conservatives
Finally Michael you got this right the man is a a hater and simply thinks he is above it all, I will never vote for him at all!

McCain more dangerous than Hillary
"how can I pull the lever for McCain during the general election? I suppose I must, to avoid Hillarycare..."

Actually voting for McCain is more likely to get liberal legislation passed. That's because all Republicans would vote against something like an amnesty plan from Hillary, but if McCain were president, the liberal Republicans would have an excuse to vote with the Democrats on it.

The safest approach for conservatives if McCain gets the nomination is to vote against McCain in November so he loses, then stonewall Hillary's administration until we can elect a real conservative in the next election.

John McCain
I see this travesty shaping up like Bob Dole running against Bill.
In our case the Republican machine seems to be selling out to McCain as if he has some sort of entitlement to be the nominee.
He is not a conservative. He is a RINO.
Hucksterabee will play the role of a spoiler much like Ross Perot did to Bush Sr. He will siphon off enough votes to seal the deal for McCain.
Take heart because now it does not really matter who wins in November. McCain, Hillary or Osama are all Democrats.
I thought eight years of Bill were our darkest days. We have not seen anything yet.

It ain't over people!!
It amazes me how so many people are convinced that this race is over because of the outcome in Florida! It's obsurd! The margin was very small, not to mention the fact that Florida is in NO way representative of the rest of the nation. The age demographic alone was a huge factor in McCain winning. His campaign slogan might as well have been "Koots for the Koot"! No disrespect for old people but seriously! Anyone who believes that win sealed the deal for him is either a liberal with wishful thinking or a liberal trying to pass a republican...you all know who you are because you consider yourselves McCain supporters. No self-respecting conservative, let alone republican, would EVER cast a vote for McCain. He's a bureaucrat through and through who's only it for himself, not the American people... as he'd have us all believe. His liberal views and policies will not change if he becomes POUS. In fact, if he were to actually ever be honest, his campaign slogan should be..."If you want more of same, vote McCain!" No thanks!! This battle is not over! True republicans are ticked off and are going to come out in masses to support Romney, not only on super tuesday but every election from here on out, if necessary. If you think McCain was furious when he lost the nominatin to Bush in 2000, just wait to see how he reacts when he loses it a second time. I predict his tempertantrum will go down it history. Set your DVRs people it's going to worth replaying over and over again.

McCain is a jerk and will get us...
into deep trouble politically in the world. His claim to fame is that he spent 5+ years in the Hanoi Hilton. From that apparently stems all his moral authority...well, McVain, "Mr. Hero" you are not the only one who has served in Congress who was a hero. Jeremiah Denton, Bob Kerrey, Bob Dole, John Kennedy, Gerry Ford, George H.W. Bush, Dwight Eisenhower et al., are just a few "real heroes" who are not bragadocious about their war experiences.

Kerrey won the MOH but was involved in denying his colleagues' testimony that they saw him kill innocent civilians. He retreated to NYC as a college president and hasn't been heard from since except to make inflammatory statements for the Billary smear machine.

The problem is axiomatic: because the elites find military service below their "intellectual" level, they have allowed cockamanie half-wits like John McCain, Al Gore, Tom Harkin, John Kerry, Jimmy Carter, Ross Perot and even John Murtha to run around like Godzillas. They terrorize people to think that their service is the penultimate experience. This has lead to a potential GOP VP who doesn't know where Pakistan is but always has a class-warfare, anti-capitalism dumb joke at the ready. We have a potential GOP nominee who BARELY made it through the USNA. Our Best and the Brightest? There goes world opinion.

WE deserve better:
What we need:::

We should NOT be ashamed to embrace and advance conservative values

We should NOT be ashamed to embrace and advance personal responsibility

We should NOT be ashamed to embrace and advance success, ambition, risk reward, competition, achievement, profits, expansion, growth and advanced study for all.

We should NOT be ashamed to keep the United States a Sovereign nation and have powerful influence in the UN, League of Nations, G-7, etc..

We must make an aggressive move forward for energy independence:
(Drill, drill, drill,::::::::::::::: until)

We should not be ashamed to promote a culture of SAVE AND INVEST.

We should not be ashamed to promote quality education as the road out of poverty.

WE should not punish the prudent, successful, the responsible by fleecing their earnings.

Hostility toward Business, success, profits, expansion, growth, is an entitlement principle:

We the people (citizens) own corporate America through our pension plans, 401 K, IRA’s, Mutual funds, College Funds, Endowment Funds, etc.

A Corporation is not a phantom “thing” or one person: it is collective ownership by the citizens: This country was built on ambition, success, achievement, innovation, risk reward, profits, and motivation.

The USA should not bear the entire and only burden to stop global warming if it truly is a crisis.

Amnesty will drain our treasury, Social Security, health care, schools, and culture.

John McCain cannot deliver

Lying is lying
And Sen. McCain has repeatedly shown himself for the liar he is. Also, the contempt he has for anything conservative is truly palpable just like Michael Reagan says.

Could someone get to Michael Dead-Cred and save him from himself? There's nothing more pathetic than an obfuscating shill, and I am afraid that Mr. Dead-Cred is about to ruin his career. Or is there a place in the radio market for a self-proclaimed "Republican progressive" ? No kidding, he as much as said it today while he was calling Rush and Michelle and Ann and Dennis and Hugh and Steyn and Levin and heritage.org and Ingraham etc. all a bunch of liberals. Too bad, something tells me it's going to be very lonely being, "The only 'conservative' left in the new media". I now use my free time (during his show) to quietly pray. The other 8+ hours a day of talk radio I get will just have to suffice.

the fact that McCain...
is the frontrunner is demonstrable evidence that the pathetic GOP... my party, is crumbling. Maybe I'll join the thousands of other disillusioned conservatives with an IQ > 90 and leave the party to the neocons and their useful idiot mouthpieces who've effectively ruined it. Btw, that list of useful idiots includes you, Michael... but still a good article here.

It's not just you, Michael
Remember back in 2000, when he publicly bashed Christian leaders?

If you are part of Corporate America, then McCain probably thinks you are greedy.

If someone is rich, then McCain will use the standard class warfare lines, like he did back in 2000.

Heaven help us-- Mitt HAS to win next Tuesday!!!!

Bob you look like a pretzel
Just give it to me, and tell me aaaaalll about Massachusetts, how nice it is.

Bob I will take you with a huge grain of
salt.

Massachusetts is gone,

Arizona is going, but savable. At least there we have voter ID legislation.

love always, saber tooth mama

Michael, you Hannity et al are to blame
You got onto the bigoted anti-Mormon bandwagon, especially when you know what great things the LDS church has done for all faiths in the Western States. Shame on you! And now we are in this conundrum.

A 5'7", 73-year old USNA dolt megalomaniac as a future President vs. a calculating power-hungry Billary machine ready to turn the USA into socialists. The latter supported by billionaire boobs like Soros, Gates, Bloomberg, Oprah, Buffett and the rest of the Hollywood/Davos, Switzerland elite ruining our middle-class lives with their "enlightened" values, and the former by illegal-loving neo-cons who have sold us out to the left like Schwarzenegger, the Log Cabin Republicans, Bill Kristol and David Brooks of the NYT, or even Michael Medved. Why? Apparently, the middle-class is composed of just a bunch of rubes who are not "big tent" enough, or compassionate enough or multicultural enough or need these maids and landscapers and dishwashers to form a new entitlement group for the Dhimmicrats. PLEEZ! Go look at your experiments in multiculturalism in Europe: they have been an unmitigated disaster!

Spare me your phony multicultural lessons that you want to shove down our throats and go actually live in foreign countries for awhile, and don't subject me to more Spanglish crap on PBS Kids' programs. We learn neither English nor Spanish!

John MCain hates me
McCain's endorsements from the New York Times
and Arnold Schwartzenegger are the kiss of
death.

Romney lies
Lifelong NRA member? (well, if you consider a month "lifelong," then sure, yeah, no doubt, heh)

Lifelong hunter? (then it was only "varmints," and that only a coupla times, heh)

The man is a flip flopping used car salesman who yearns so hard to be liked by others that it's pathetic. He comes across to the majority of Americans as something to be despised; plastic and robotic and so squeaky clean that it's a given he's never gotten his hands dirty doing any honest real man type of work in his life.

A man who suddenly sees the light of conservatism in his 50s?? Who in his 50s suddenly decides he's against abortion? You folks buy that BS? Get real.

Just because you dislike McCain doesn't mean Romney is a true conservative. Because he's not, not by a long shot, and not anywhere near the conservative Johnny Mac is, and always has been.

It is what it is.

Try putting your country ahead of your pet peeves and your narrow-minded wants. For that is what makes America great, what has always made it great, and what will save it. Each side must compromise for our government to work for the best - in fact, to work at all.

Extremism on either side is abhorred by Americans. It's what the Islamic terrorists are, extremists, and the views here are full of hate and extremism and an 'my way or the highway' attitude, and to hell with America.

McCain/Obama

-America comes first-

5'7" and 73 years old
Is the Ariel "Arik" Sharon of Israel splitting-image McLame ready to take over the nuclear arsenal and the leadership of the free world. I just hope a life-incapacitating apoplectic attack occurs soon for professional politician McVain! Of course, then, we would have geographically-challenged Hucksterbee at the ready as a potential VP to step-in. Hey, but his strong suit is that he always has a joke at the ready. The BEST and BRIGHTEST? The US as a "shining city upon the hill" PLEEZ! Heaven help us all!

McCain most dangerous person right now
If he gets the nod, I am voting Democrat. He is much much worse than Hitlary. We need to take back our party and toss losers like McCain out on their butts.

Again, he has potential to do way mor harm to our Republic than either democrat. I will fight him tooth and nail at all cost.

We may lose Conservatives...

If John doesn't work hard for the Core-Conservatives...

Many will be sitting it out, or voting for Hillary.

They are really serious... Wake up John!

"country before"... you, that's for sure
Do not pass Go. Go straight to Massachusetts and be in Glad Hand's (Mitt's) Glorious Domain, I grant you citizenship right now.

And should you secede, I shall not don my blues for you.

Very insightful, he dislikes all
conservatives, he has not forgiven us, for rejecting him in 2000. Now mission is to distroy the whole GOP.

Yeah, that sums up my feelings
I think McCain is running on his war hero status. Problem is, that was decades ago, and since then he has destroyed his own image. I count his general military experience as valuable, both in active duty and in office. But many of his other activities have destroyed the merits of that military experience. I'm not happy about it. Now, the people who are unhappy with McCain have listed his deep faults endless times, so I'm not going to list them yet again. I just can't accept him, as "electable" as everyone says he is. I'm not going to vote for someone who I feel will sneer at me. =(

Mitt makes such a better candidate. Go Mitt!

The Manchurian Candidate . . .
The NVA are finally getting their wish . . . . can't wait to see what happens when they send the signal . . . .

Not only is McCain a manifestation of ..
... the evil that oozes from all sufferers of the Socialist Psychosis but the from-the-mouth-up paralysis of the whole of his face quite clearly indicates that the infantile tantrums for which he is infamous and which so often render him out-of-control are his normal Post Traumatic Stress Disordered condition. And are at best but barely controlled by the drug cocktail that so totally paralyizes his head.

Not just an intellectually-challenged, morally flawed, pathologically lying RINO fraud, Mr McCain is a real-life drugged up Doctor Strangelove.

Adolescent Nonsense By Michael Reagan
This is the silliest column I have ever seen written by Michael Reagan. It is completely adolescent -- "he hates me" and "he hates other people." What nonsense. The debate was about national security, support for the Iraq War, Supreme Court nominations and the like. There is no place for the kind of childish spewing as is found in Michael Reagan's column. His father would not be proud.

It's time . . .
to start building the Conservative Party. It seem the Elephants are following the Jack-asses over the cliff . . . .

Mikey...Soooo Right..I was wrong
Last night was a turning point for me....
I felt also that McCain had disdain for EVERYONE not McCain!...Until then I would have voted for him and held my nose...no longer...I must apologize to all my TH frieneds whom I may have castigated for not "sucking it up for the good of the party"....you were right!
God help us all!

Temperament
I think there is something to be said for McCain's apparent disdain for people who don't agree with him. There have been at least two debates where he hasn't been able to hide it. I don't know that a disposition to bitterness and disrespect for others is an admirable quality for the leader of the free world.

McCain's Supported Withdrawal....
Read these and then ask yourself who the real cut and run Republican was in January of2007...

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,247198,00.html

McCain is more Clintonian in his ability to distort than Clinton is!!!

3 Rhino Candidates Schemed against Mitt
Looking at the debate last night as they circling around Mitt Romney wagon and considering Mike Huckbee still hanging on without least hope of nomination strengthens my belief that Rudy had always been a member of the McCain party

And the McCain party is merely part of the Liberals scheme to undermine Romney whom Billary/Edbama don't like to face in November because Mitt has no dirty laundries.

The noisy MSM is possessed by spirits of demons which Revelations says "looked like frogs".

Go to Canada Free Press and read "Behold, 666 is Here"

Endorse Romney!
Please Michael Reagan endorse Romney!

Re: country before party
Actually, I think Reagan might have been around 50 when he decided he was against abortion. Do you think he was a fraud? Or that he had an insatiable desire to please everyone?

I Hate You Too Mike
Well, hate is a strong word. But if Mac doesn't like you Mike Regan (sorry you don't deserve a proper spelling of that noble name) then I don't like you much either. Conservatism has been wrestled back from the Limbaugh League of negatavists who are amazed at what little influence they always had with their listeners...shrinking number that it is.

McCain = Hillary
I have been a conservative since I was a child ( didn't know what to call it back then ) and I have never seen such a more disgusting republican candidate for president , than John McCain . He's an angry liar and a lib in elephant skin . He has supported every socialist idea that has come his way . This gags me but , I would rather vote for Obama than John McCain .

Re: RK
Thank you for posting those articles ... I had no idea McCain had supported (gasp) benchmarks in Iraq. I'm pretty sure that was during that time when "benchmarks" was understood to mean waiving the white flag in Iraq.

But one thing I like about McCain is that he refuses to run a negative campaign. This man's hypocrisy is incredible, absolutely incredible.

To compare Pres. Reagan with...
...Sen. McCain is absurd. There are no parallels between the two men. Ronald Reagan was a truly humble man who believed in people and the proof of that was, and still is, in the types of people who hate him to this day.

The fact that the body-count media is in love with McCain tells me everything I need to know.

Micheal Reagan Sucks
Stop living on the coattails of you father and try getting a job for a living. John McCain is an honorable man and has done nothing to you. This a desperate attempt by you and the republican elite to smear McCain.

Former FredHead
I voted absentee in Fl. Fred announced and dropped out of the race. We had not mailed our ballots so we called the SOE and had new ballots(you can get up to three ballots) sent to the house where we voted for Mitt. Fred did not have the "Fire in the Belly".
By the way we have early voting in Fl. I am not a fan of this policy. Our slogan should be " Vote early and Vote often".
Fred was my first choice but it was not to be.

McCain the true Conservative
Once upon a time, Balancing the Budget was a block in the foundation of conservative principles. Recently, it seems that borrowing and spending like drunken sailors is the mantra of the day.

Sure, one can have a tax cut, spend tons of 'Big government' money to stimulate the economy and increase (slightly) revenues.

But Big spending comes at a cost. From 2001 to 2006, the number of pork barrel projects went from 3,000 to 14,000. The Department of Education doubled and entitlement spending increased. Spending far outpaced the increased revenues because the debt went from 4 to 9 billion dollars!

Re: TrueHawk
TrueHawk said: "But if Mac doesn't like you Mike Regan (sorry you don't deserve a proper spelling of that noble name) then I don't like you much either."

I'm not sure why you think this kind of disrespect is appropriate. But its obvious why you support McCain.

rockerisback
McCain IS the repub elite. Just look at who supports him: bandwagoneers, job-seekers, the lib media, his "friends" in the senate, etc.

Face it, the guy's a dyed in the wool country club republican. He hates conservatives, it oozes from his pours.

I Won't Vote For mccain, EVER!
I am a Christian and I heard from some other Christians yesterday that they won't vote for Mitt Romney because they are afraid that the LDS Church will have to much influence in the White House if Mitt is elected. If mccain is nominated no conservative will have influence in the WH.

mccain probably won't win so we will have a dem in the WH and even if by some chance mccain becomes POTUS see the above paragraph.

This is a call to my brothers and sisters in Christ, DON'T WITHHOLD YOUR VOTE TO MITT ROMNEY BECAUSE HE IS LDS!

I lived in eastern Idaho for 11 years (LDS country), Mormons are very capable people, qualified to hold office, and not prone to forcing their religion done your throats even when they control the politics in the region. I see no reason to believe that they will control the country in Mitt is POTUS.

A vote for Mitt in the primaries will give conservatives a fighting chance in Nov & beyond, a vote for mccain will dome conservatives to the wilderness for the next 4 years or more.

If mccain is nominated just imagine him in 3 debates against obama, he won't stand a chance, and if he wins against hillary in Nov., conservatives won't stand a chance against mccain.

Don't drink the mccain koolade or we will be doomed.

Reality
A vote for Romney is a vote for McCain. After last night, I'm switching to Huckabee. He said more in 10 minutes than McCain or Romney said in an hour and a half. I can't remember now why I was looking at Romney! I'm baffled actually, why are so many conservatives not taking Huckabee seriously? I'm voting my conscience. I can't ignore him like so many columnists and talk shows are doing.
Go USA!

Just this once Robert....
Or maybe its the second time I will address you W/O having to wash my mouth out with soap...
McCain IS Hillary...in conservative clothing
But I think you already know that! :)

The Current Frontrunners
If you acknowledge that they are just 4 front runners left in the primaries, 2 Rep, & 2 Dem. Three of them are Washington insiders, remember congressional approval rating close to single digits.

Wake up my friends, the three senators who are still in the race will screw the Republic out of existence. There is only one candidate who is not a washington insider.

robert
All I have to say to you is..... .454Casull.

Re: Current Frontrunners
I just checked realclearpolitics.com and Huckabee is very much in the delegate race in most all the states for Super Tuesday. Where do you get your information that there are only two Rep. in the race? Wake up my friend. There are three.

Dumbest response Iv'e ever seen
Robert writes ...McCain and Hillary are so different in many things...but if Iraq is so important, as important as the neo'nuts here said it was before we went...
If they are soooo different , other than the war , please point out their differences ??? I give you an F off minus . RINOs should really find some other sight .

Your not alone...
Michael, your exactly right! The gall, audacity and blatant arrogance of John McCain is the behavior of a dirty scoundrel of the worst kind. I take great offense to his feeble attempt to bamboozle conservatives is beyond contempt.

writes, "The safest approach for conservatives if McCain gets the nomination is to vote against McCain in November so he loses, then stonewall Hillary's administration until we can elect a real conservative in the next election.

Never thought I would say this but, I am starting to come around to this line of thinking. McCain as president would further advance the socialist agenda and lend it credibility. When the wall is hit, both parties will be equally blamed and rightly so. The best hope for conservatism is a Clinton or Obama in the white house if McCain gets the republican nomination. At least that way, if and when the electorate ever wakes up and faces reality, there will be an electoral option for them to exercise. With McCain leading the republican party, that option will not exist. Four years of him and we can be absolutely guaranteed of eight more with a far left democrat promising to put things right just as they do now. Although, the MSM is leading the charge to surrender to Islamists, I think most people still fear it enough to elect McCain instead of Hitlery or Hussein. That would be the end of the conservative movement. Alito too conservative? Yuk

This thread is proof...
...that our educational system is so decrepit that it is no wonder how lefties like McCain have managed to fool so many. We don't even know our own language anymore, so how are we going to recognise a fake conservative? (quick, what's wrong with that sentence?)

Love Mike
Michael, I agree with you also; however, I just can't support Mitt either. I wish you could see what a fine man Mike Huckabee is and find it in your heart to endorse him. He hates nobody.

Poor Mikey
There's nothing more entertaining than a "conservative victim". OOPS - I forgot - only LIBS are victims. Once again, the far right = the far left. Victims during the day....in the same bed at night. What folly.

Excellent article--
Michael, you are 100% correct. I think that we(conservatives) are in some serious trouble if Juan and Shillary are the best the country have to offer as the future prez. Hope this is just a bad dream.

Make an impact now Mr. Reagan
I watched the debate last night, and I barely saw anything besides McCain's contemptable smirks while Mitt was talking. He actually also looked very uncomfortable as well at having his record and dishonesty spilled out for the audience to see.
Please endorse Mitt now Mr. Reagan, and help to lead us away from the road to the nomination of this man that mocks conservatives and their fundamental ideals.

Re: Mrs. Sullivan
If I were you I would urge restraint in your zeal for Huckabee. The only reason he looked good last night was because he was irrelevant, and no one on that stage cared what he had to say. But in each debate when he has been challenged, however, he hasn't come off looking nearly as appealing.

MCain- he would be King
The US fought a revolution for freedom from one king; I'm not about to elect another to rule over us. Michael is right- this man has disdain and contempt for us, the voters. He is an angry, bitter little man who, if elected, would extract retribution on all who dare oppose him.

Consider immigration- he says he heard us and "I'll build the g-d fence, but it won't do any good." He hasn't changed his mind at all; he only wants the power of POTUS. If he gets it, he will ignore us and any laws and will open the borders to terrorists and illegals and destroy our country. And what will you then do about it???? Too late to stop him then.

His ego, arrogance and absolute conceit is far more important than whether or not he's called conservative. His nature plainly shows us how he would operate if he only had the power.

Vote to DENY him the nomination- we won the immigration debacle last year and we CAN do it again. Tell your friends and relatives- we can be an army to preserve the country!

Mike is right
did anyone else get mccains answer on the economy ? did he basically say britney spears buys coffee so when he was a pow he ordered pizza ooops sorry that didnt make sense then again neither did his answer seriously i cant even remember how he didnt answer it but was amazed how he switched to triple or double straight talk express. mccain hates conservatives and in private he lets his listeners of his sermons know it. The newest bit was being heard saying " Ill build there damn fence " Of course this makes me wonder how he thinks " their " fence he still doesnt get even democrats now realize we need a fence and this isnt just some cute lil project of those to the right. He will never understand this issue or taxes or the economy. I have written elsewhere on here that we need to use these next four years to create and promote a 3rd party a conservative party so in many ways I will be glad when this is all over with election wise because it will take a mccain or hillary 4 years of presidency to wake up the asleep conservatives enough to leave the GOP for good and finally.

so let the media and the dems pick our ticket so be it , it should be the last ticket where theres the illusion of conservatives still being part of the GOP tent !

awake conservatives awake !

McCain not a knee jerk conservative
McCain is closer to Reagan's views than most conservatives want to admit. Reagan was not a knee jerk conservative and neither is McCain. Mr. Conscience of a Conservative, Barry Goldwater was not rigid in his views either. It sounds like many of your would rather run a Robert Taft than a Dwight Eisenhower just so you can feel pure. Well, that's not how the political process works. We all have to compromise. Reagan proposed Sandra Day O'Connor for the Supreme Court, and she turned out ok. She wouldn't be able to be nominated by conservatives today and that is sad. I'm sure Reagan would be concerned how rigid conversatives have become in their viewpoints.

HOOOOAAH!
“I was a war hero, and you had damn well better treat me as your superior.”

That is exactly what I get from McCain.

One of my superiors gave me that same line about a month ago. He pointed at his rank and told me all about how he was a hero because he was kicking down doors in Iraq. I wonder if his ex wife thinks he's a hero too?

I respect his rank, but when he's stressed out, he treats subordinates like trash and thinks we ought to be able to read his mind.

When he's being his natural self, he tells inappropriate jokes, infront of female soldiers.

He's a great guy if you can read his mind or if you want to be his drinking buddy.

All of those who share his rank handle the stress well and lead by example and motivate the platoon by their good example.

People naturally follow leaders, I follow my superior because its my job and I swore to it.

McCain has never been a leader outside of the military and throws an absolute fit when people disagree with his pig headed, self serving, officer mentality.

McCain fits the divorced, angry, "war hero" bill to a Tee and I cant stand him.

Im in the military and I aprove of this message.

PS
You dont have to serve in the military to be a hero.

Be a good father or mother to your kids and a responsible loving, LOYAL, husband or wife to your spouse and you are the biggest hero ever.

McCain is not "my friend".

Michael, it's not too late!
There is still time. All the conservative punditry that fell over themselves to derail the campaign of Gov. Mike Huckabee (not former pastor Huckabee, Gov. Huckabee....we don't see anyone write "former Bishop Romney" or "Missionary Romney." I digress.)can still get behind him and win this for the conservative side.
He has a great conservative record and he doesn't have to buy his votes. He gets them with ideas and a very powerful ability to connect with people. It's called charisma. (There is a fascinating video from Politico on last night's debate about how a room full of undecided ladies almost all decided to switch their vote to Mike Huckabee after the debate. They said he made sense and was a straight shooter. My thoughts exactly. But none of us is paid for our opinions. We just have a measly vote.)
So my money is on the dark horse who just won't quit. Go Seabiscuit!!! Go Huckabee!!!

If...
Obama is his challenger, I think he loses. If Clinton, I think he has a good chance of winning, unfortunately. It will be a contest of scumbag against scumbag, and which can America tolerate the most.

Who cares?
Micheal, Hugh, Rush, Laura, Ann, Hanity and Levine - why should republicans care what you think about McCain. You have attacked him and continue to do so, even if, we the people have made it clear that your opinion on this matter does not really make a difference. This would be a good time to stop bashing Mc, and either vote for the democrats or get behind the people's choice. Also, there are many conservatives who find Mc to be acceptable - so stop insulting us by saying, we are not the base, because we consider ourselves to be the base that will ensure Mc's victory in November. NOW STOP IT! MITT IS OVER AND HE WILL NEVER BE PRESIDENT OR THE NOMINEE.

I agree Mike.
10-4. The man is far too arrogant for my tastes. He's also a bit wired tight. Notion of his finger on the trigger scares me, and I am one of those warmonger types. So God knows what it will do to the public at large once Hillary exposes his insanity. He needs to drop out while Mitt still has a chance, and hit the old folks home.

BTW, as one who is in the process of transracial adoption, his remarks that those of us who oppose illegal immigration are "racist" is are irritating. This from the same man who still calls the Viet Cong "gooks." (No kidding, do a google, it is verified.)

But where is Romney in calling McCain on this stuff, huh?

Standard bearer?
If McCain is the standard bearer of the Republican Party, then apparently I need to rethink my voter registration. I have voted in every presidential election since 1980 and I have always voted Republican. Aside from Reagan and George W. in 2000, I did not vote with passion, but the alternative was always worse. I cannot say the same if McCain is the nominee. He will do anything for media approval and hasn't a single authentic bone in his body. The "straight talk express" is as big a lie as the Kennedy Camelot charade.
His enablers, the liberal media, overlook his flip flops and falsehoods because they know that he doesn't mean a word he says when he tries to be conservative. His hatred of others drives his policies. What on earth would he do as president? I will not vote for him.

WELL REAGAN FOR SURE WOULD NOT
ENDORSE THIS EMBARASSMENT OF A MAN, JOHN MCCAIN. HE IS SUCH A JOKE I WANT TO PUKE. FUNNY HE CONSIDERED SWITCHING PARTIES (READ THE DRUDGE ARTICLE) AND EVEN WAS INVITED TO BE ON KERRY'S TICKET! UMMM A CONSERVATIVE???? NEED I SAY MORE??? I WILL NOT VOTE FOR SUCH A MAN. SORRY BUT I WON'T. JOHN = CLINTON = LIBERAL.

Jurassic McCain
I hope I'm wrong. I still hold out hope that the Republican party will wake up and deep six McCain. If it doesn't, I think it's 1976 all over again with Ford beating Reagan. If McCain wins the nomination, in 2012 we will be BEGGING Romney to run.

I won't vote for McCain. Ever. I'll vote for the congressional seats and the propositions, but never for McCain. If the country is going to hell I'd rather let the democrat party take the blame and not the Rupublicans. I could ahve lived with Giuliani or Thompson. But not McCain.

And Huck is showing what a jerk he is by staying in just to help Romney lose. Pretty bitter feelings for a "Christian".

McCain has NO chance in the general. He may poll well, but the dirty little secret is without the base support he will have no volunteers or money. He'll be lucky to win 5 states. He'll get creamed.

Only Mitt Can Sidetrack McLame Now
Please, Michael, publicly endorse Romney very quickly. We've all must pull together to do something before Tuesday.

GJ
You say, "Huck hates nobody" - yeah right, except Mormons. His actions prove it. How else do you explain him not dropping out? Please dont tell me you think he has a chance.

He has spoken at anti-Mormon rallies and his current actions can only be explained by the fact that he fears a Mormon in the White House more than he fears terrorists. He's really turned into quite a despicable human being.

We need to get behind Romney
There's one chance to pull the fat from the fire.

Call anyone you know in a super tuesday state and get them on the romney bandwagon.

Fred is gone, Hunter never got started, and Huck isn't much better than mccain.

McCain isn't the nominee Yet, there's time, but that means you people in the states voting tuesday need to stop letting the Media pick your candidate! McCain is't inevitable, a couple months ago he was "finished" remember?

If the republicans nominate McCain, I'll vote conservative in the downticket and write in Mickey mouse or Myself, (I'm the only one truly qualified anyhow):op If we're going to have liberal government, we may as well have a Real democrat to blame instead of an ersatz democrat.

Ph.D., J.D.
""But where is Romney in calling McCain on this stuff, huh? ""

Every time Romney compares himself with any other candidate he's accused of "Attacking" them.
When McCain attacks romney (Falsely) he's portrayed by the press as "Exposing Romney".

The MSM WANTS McCain to Win!!
The man was endorsed by the NEW YORK TIMES! You should be boiling mad.

C'mon People! You rail against the MSM every single day right here on TH, yet your are letting them choose your president?!!!

What is it about election years that turns ordinarily intelligent people into Lemmings?

We have one man left who holds most of the reagan coalition values. Are we going to hand the country to socialism, or socialism lite, when there is a qualified candidate in front of you?

We made this mistake in 1976, we went for the "electable" candidate. Ford, Dole, McCain, all "electable" candidates that lost miserably.(or will)

Perform the same action time after time after time, and keep expecting a different result, Isn't that the definition of insanity?

I guess humanity really is getting dumber.

SVARA
good point, and Jorge got us into this problemo.

Huckabee is no conservative
His record belies the label.

The Club for Growth originally released the Huckabee white paper on January 29, 2007, the first in its presidential white paper series. As the presidential race developed over the past ten months, many readers have expressed comments and questions, and new information about Governor Huckabee’s record has come to light. In order to ensure that the presidential white papers continue to be thorough and relevant, the Club for Growth decided to issue an updated account of Mike Huckabee’s economic record.

“Over the pas ten months, Governor Huckabee’s embrace of his liberal economic record as governor and his populist, protectionist rhetoric on the campaign trail has only confirmed the Club for Growth’s original assessment,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. “Huckabee himself admits that he is a ‘different kind of Republican,’ a code word for more government involvement, less personal freedom, and greater dependence on government bureaucrats.”

“Huckabee is proud of his tax hikes, his spending increases, and his regulatory expansions as governor, and he has not indicated that he would govern any differently as president. Nominating Mike Huckabee for president or vice-president would constitute an abject rejection of the free-market, limited-government, economic conservatism that has been the unifying theme of the Republican Party for decades.”

There is a distinction between having contempt for a religious cult, and just hating its adherents.

Most Christians hate MormonISM because it has ensnared and blinded so many Mormons to the simple truth of the Gospel. Mormonism is much like the teaching of the Pharisees, which Christ, if you'll recall, took exception to.

A great pastor I once knew said it this way "don't shoot the hostages".

A Cultist can still be a good president
John Adams was a Unitarian, which is an even more reviled sect than Mormonism, but he was an amazing president.

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one paying attention.

I saw some dork on TV last night saying that McCain would get a lot of votes because he is a war hero. Look at the last 4 elections: the candidate with combat experience lost.

Republicans win when they put forth a conservative (or conservative acting in the case of GWB) who just explains his positions and defends them. People understand and like conservative principles, and will trust them over the flavor of the month.

Michael, great article. Maybe you and other conservatives can help rebuild the Republican party after it implodes this Fall if McCain is the Republican... choice.

Can't the GOP do better than this?

McCain's Vice President Pick
I have got the sneaking suspicion that if nominated, McCain would want to pick Joe Lieberman to be Vice President.

Huckabee critics lack fair consideration
Huckabee's problem has been the Republican Party, for many years, has been an orderly party. They do not like populist upstarts (thats for Democrats).

Notice:
The Audacity of Huck
http://www.amconmag.com/2008/2008_01_28/cover.html

But remember, Ronald Reagan was also a populist insurgent, and the Pooh Bahs of the Republican establishment didn’t want him, either. (How quickly we do forget.)

Reagan overcame the Republican PC test of his day. How?

By a positive vision of what America is, was, and could be again. Remember, "a shining city on a hill", and "morning in America"?

Iow, a big part of Reagan's message transcended party politics –and we loved him for it.

Governor Mike Huckabee’s "Vertical Politics" is of the same kind of philosophy –in principle– as Reagan’s hopeful American optimism. Notice,

"Governor Mike Huckabee speaks on why he is running for President."

I agree with you, but sometimes i think the american people have become too addicted to Bread and Circuses.

More people could tell you who made it to the next phase of american idol than name all the presidential candidates.

By the time the majority of the american public wakes up and starts thnking about elections we'll have a choice between socialism and socialism lite. I'm still holding out hope, but it's starting to look like a sad election cycle.

I'm begining got understand what it's like to be a Cubs fan.

On his worst day, Mc is still better qualified ot be commander in chief than Mitt. Americans get it, only romniacs don't but Mittens can thank us when Mc keeps them and their children safe from Jihadists. We are electing a commander in chief (as the constitution states) not economist in chief (even Ron Paul made this point during the debate). Check mate!

boomerbabe, take your ball go home
and please take the other Romniacs with you. In November, we conservatives who support Mc, coupled with security voters, prolife voters, military voters and hispanic voters will give Mc the victory he needs to get into the whitehouse. Asta la vista baby!

Endorse Mitt, Huck should drop out
so that Mitt can win, Huck supporters should vote for Mitt so that he can win, Mitt needs to buy more ads. so that he can win. Wow! Can Mitt loose without blaming somebody else? I thought all the Fred supporters were supposed to vote for him the "true conservative"? Aaaaah maybe, just maybe Mitt should drop out so that republican talk show hosts can start discussing policy related issues instead of using airtime to bash Mc.

Michael, Limbaugh is voting for
Hillary so I doubt he is interested in being a Veep for Mc. Considering his hatred for all GOP candidates maybe he can join Bloomberg for that 3rd candidate vacancy. Never mind, nobody believes him anymore, haven't you seen the Mc polls? They go up everytime he and Hugh attack the Mc. Genius!

McCain not getting love from the Ladies
Ladies, please, all this love for Huckabee? Didn't you notice what was going on? No one was attacking Huckabee, No one has attacked Huckabee and so it's quite easy to be fluffy and wax poetic when no one cares enough about what you said to question it. He simply shrugged off several questions and just launched into his own sililoquey. Sometimes you fellow women embarrass me. The substance of Romney's responses seems to have been lost on you.

I hope John McCain's puppets are reading this. I don't care if Elvis comes back from his grave to endorse you. I DON'T BELIVE YOU. ARE YOU A LIAR.

I am voting for Mitt.

Bill please shut up.

Medved making things up?
I could swear Medved said Michael Reagan had endorsed or implied that he supported McCain. This article makes it pretty clear that is not the case. Michael R. should set the record straight by endorsing Romney.

I hear you Micheal!
Contempt and hatred are simply the results of arrogance and a deep seated sense of superiority (inferiority?). It doesn't matter if it comes from a notion of exclusive entitlement or simply the idea that the world owes me. I get the same exact feeling from Romney and McCain, Romney just hides it better with his plastic demeanor. I believe they're both in it more for themselves than for the rest of us.

Huckabee on the other hand really inspires with his authenticity and genuine respect for ordinary people. He is the opposite of all the other candidates Democrat or Republican. Add to that he's the only one who endorsed Ronald Reagan instead of presuming that he would endorse them. And the fact that he's been running on ideas and solutions while the others have been playing politics as usual. And I think we conservatives have an obligation to reconsider Gov Huckabee and an opportunity to make a greater choice that lifts America up.

Huck can win big; mitt cannot
Huckabee may win big super tuesday
He may well come away with the nomination. And that would be God's gift to our nation.

Because we would have for the first time a true conservative Christian who believes in the pro life pro family agenda.

Abd unlike the rest of the pusillanimous, amoral lot of candidates who think they can take evangelical Christians for granted and then ignore our issues, Mike Huckabee is unashamed to say publically that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Vote for Givernor Mike Huckabee on super-tuesday tueday if you dont want John McCain:

Mitt the flip flopping, weeping, civil rights activist who marched in his dreams with MLK has no chance.

And he would be ripped apart in the generalelection due to his flip flops on so many issues, and his outlandish tale about pulling over on the side of the road to weep-when he learned his church decided to finally admit negros.

If you believe whopper, you will believe anything. But black voters wont; and any repub needs ten percent of black votes to win: romney couldnt get more than 2%.

It wasn't long ago that the Michael Reagan warned the democratic candidates to "back off of Hillary" - since he and his fellow "machismo" conservatives would certainly do their part in shredding her.

Now he's writing a hate manifesto against the only Republican with a chance for the nomination while Hillary Clinton wipes her a** with his old columns...

LOL.

McCain doesn't hate Ted Kennedy
McCain has an Axe to grind, especially with the Republicans, Conservatives, and Christian Right. They didn't want McCain as President the first time around, and McCain isn't the type to forget it either. If McCain did so much for the Conservatives, the Conservatives along with talk radio would be backing McCain. Instead it's just the opposite. Every one keeps on saying that it was because of McCain that the judges President Bush wanted got through only because of McCain. Let's not forget how and why McCain created the Gang of 14. At the time, the Democrats were crying because power wasn't being shared with them. Creating the Gang of 14 was another way of McCain's to let the Democrat's share in the power of the Republican's. Don't forget, the Republicans had both the House and the Senate then at the time.

USMC0331
I hear you. My good friend, USMC Lt. Col. ret. explained to me that many POW's from Viet Nam era that he knows will not even stay in the same room with McCain.
McCain is not even a RHINO, that's too kind. He is a DIRC, Democrat In Republican Clothing. Dole was unelectable class, McCain is unelectable crass.

McCain
Why he is winning theses primaries is a mystery to me. He is nothing more than a Democrat Lite.
And the Lite is beginning to disappear. Mc Cain is a loose cannon.

Conservative Crybaby
Conservative sheeple are such crybabies. Get over yourself Mike! This is worse than she who cannot be named misting up before the New Hampshire primary. Just get over yourself already.

Bush tax cuts
Bush's tax cuts helped the economy this much $

The interest rate cuts helped this much $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The tax cuts only helped the rich get richer and helped the peon buy food for a week or so since he needed it to survive and the rich just socked their $150,000 into a fund.!!!

Without Fred Thompson in the race, the only other viable candidate is Ron Paul. He's the ONLY one that will protect the Second Amendment AND work to remove the illegal aliens in this country. He's a little iffy on Iraq/Afghanistan but he best realize what the war is all about or this country is still in trouble.
AND if the Democrats win you can kiss your *ss goodbye. Course, first it will be your guns. They're already looking at what to do if attacked from within.. WHAT does mean?? It means they know they intend to screw the nation and have disarm the people, especially the militias because they're afraid of a revolution!! Clinton tried it but the courts haven't been corrupted enough, yet! The militias were exonerated.
This next President will appoint at least two Supreme Court Justices, enough to overide all attempts at maintaining the constitution. It will be shredded. Maybe totally discarded. Well, the 18-24 year olds best vote properly cause they will have to bear the brunt of the problem..

Cresen7
Brilliant analysis and I concur. As one who is repeatedly bashed for NOT holding my nose and voting RINO I've been waiting for the bottom to fall out and real american heros to take center stage. I thought this may occur after the 06 beating, but neither the GO ppower base or those voters who call themselves conservative got the message or learned their lesson.

So here we go again, watch the insulting, demeaning remarks from people who call themselves conservative to guys and gals like me who will voice our opposition to voting because someone has an R after their name....

BTW, McCain WAS NOT a war hero, left his wife for vanity/ego reasons and in my opinion is a miserable, little man I wouldn't trust to lead a local cub scout troop. He was a poor scholar and inept pilot who lost 5 planes. He also talked quite frequently to the VC and was treated much better than his unfortunate POW fellows - many of which were truly heros but never beat their own chests. Spend a minute or two on vietnamveteransagainstmccain.com and decide for yourself.

Ron Paul is now the ONLY candidate
Thompson dropped out.. Sure was sorry to see that. I wish I was rich like Bill Gates, I woulda financed his campaign.

But NOW, the closest to conservatism is Ron Paul.

I would rather see Ron Paul nominate the Supreme Court Justices than ANY other candidate out there, since Fred is gone.

cornepone and sarah
Sarah -if you are an official or paid supporter of mcCain you MUST disclose this information on your posts according to MFA 2217sub13reada64 regulations or face a severe penalty and possible jail time.

Cornpone - what if Romeny were elected - would that be a gift from god as well? What about Hillary - would she be a gift from God? Does Santa...er I mean the god of western christianity give what we need or what we deserve...or both?

Mental Capacity
It should be of concern to Americans that a man who spent 5 years as a POW cannot have come out of that free of deep psychological problems, of which have not resolved themselves, to be certain.

His anger and dishonesty reveals itself more and more; his vitriol and passive aggressive remarks only present this case further as we move along.

I want McCain talking because he can't hide this mental incapacity forever and something at some point will send him over the edge, hopefully in public and caught on tape, so that everyone can see the fraud he is and his emotional/mental shortfall.

We've seen glimpses of it and refuse to acknowledge it more strongly, then we'll act surprised as though we never saw it coming.

Michael Reagan
John MCCain is not alone.

McCain
should take his too short for his body arms and sneers home with him and stay there. He does seem to think we're all stupid.

Typical of liberal socialists.

Hmmmm! No wonder the dimms love him so much.

beachmom
That's liberals for ya!

ANYONE endorsed by RINO Rudy, RINO Arnold, and the NY Slimes...

AIN'T NO CONSERVATIVE!

McCain Derangement Syndrome

I heard two examples of it this evening - one from my friend Hugh Hewitt, whose rage against McCain today on Wolf Blitzer's CNN show made the hair curl on my bald head and later, on the Larry Elder Show, I listened in as a woman caller excoriated McCain as no war hero even though she knew the Senator had spent five years in a North Vietnamese prison camp, was tortured, had his bones broken yet stayed with the other troops when offered a chance to leave, etc. Even Elder was appalled at the woman, though Larry is no McCain supporter.

http://www.rogerlsimon.com/mt-archives/2008/01/mccain_deran gem.php

Michael Reagan, get some help. Perhaps thinking about four years of Hillary or Obama backed by a Democrat Congress will do it. McCain does not like Romney and Romney does not like McCain. Frankly to draw some theory that McCain hates you and everyone else is nuts.

The feeling is mutual
I may join Ann Coulter's drive for Hillary.

A Tale of Two Mitts
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video_log/2008/01/mccain_a _tale_of_two_mitts_web.html

Here is Romney dissing Ronald Reagan and now Romney is the great white hope of conservatism? Sorry guys, I will take John McCain.

Ann Coulter is for Ann Coulter. Her comments about voting and helping Hillary beat McCain were frankly nuts, but you have to be nuts to take anything she says seriously. Ann is all about driving book sales and being controversial.

Another caliber heard from
Large Caliber,

May I suggest a .475 Linebaugh? How about a .475 Wildey?

-Ray

GREAT PIECE MIKE!
Mitt needs some big names stepping up to endorse him REAL SOON. The MSM is loving the way this is playing out and will continue to marginalize him.

Party uniter?
As I've read so many comments for, and against, McCain I'm amazed that he, or anyone else, could possibly think that this guy could unite the Republican Party. It seems to me that he's spit it in two. If he really gave a damn about this country, he'd either bow out or become a conservative before it's too late. When Ann Coulter is considering voting for Hillary because she's right of McCain you know that the Party has a real problem.

McShamnesty
Exactly right. That is exactly the feeling I've gotten this whole time. I don't think John can beat the Democrat. Kerry was supposed to win according to polls. People are voting the polls. Since when do polls determin the election.

Mitt Romney has really gotten a raw deal from everyone. Everyone is out to get him it seems. I've looked at his web site and as a conservative of conservatives I agree with all his issues. At least MItt has changed before he started running for president and has not switched his views. McShamnesty and Huckabee has changed thier minds according to what the audience wants to hear or as in Johns case pretend that we are just too dumb to understand that his views are not conservative.

Every Mormon I've know has been very high on the list of moral values and integrity. They sometimes put Christians to shame. We aren't voting for favorite church!

McCain is really
the Manchurian Candidate

McCain
Let's consider his Immigration philosophy. Can you imagine a conservative or Republican candidate for the President of the US telling you that illegal (immigration) is perfectly OK and it should be rewarded by issuing US citizenship to all illegals?

For me, illegal means illegal. Period. You can not make a right turn from the left lane, or pass on red light - it is illegal. What Vietnam interrogators did to McCain was illegal by the Geneva convention. What's there not to understand? On the other hand, if McCaine or Bush or other advocates of amnesty mean simply that this country needs laborers with low or no education to work in industries such as agriculture, meat packing, construction, etc. - then there are many organized ways to do that; temporary guest work program, for one.
But no, McCain and his buddy Kennedy wanted 20 million illegals legalize and for a meager sum of money (THE PUNISHMENT!!!) put them on a path to citizenship.

It seems to me the amnesty advocates are worried about foreigners more than about their own citizens. And after all that, McCaine wants us to vote for him?

I, personally, feel deeply humiliated ever since we discussed the infamous "Comprehensive Immigration Reform proposal" on these pages all last year. That's why Mr. McCaine's NOT going to get my vote and my family votes. As a free man I don't like it very much when someone, even a war hero, spits it in my face!

Wrat
I know that you didn't find that from wikipedia as BOB did. As I said last night I used to live in eastern Idaho and I became rather fond of the firearm maker right accross the border. I guess you could say that I'm old skuul, I like the .454.

Both your suggestions are also more than capable, and don't forget the .500 Wyoming Express.

Any handgun that can stop a large bear with one well placed shot rates in my book.

Michael is right
I don't mind McCain doing his own thing. Its when he wants to take the entire Party in his direction that irritates me. The smirky atttitude about it adds more arrogance. Its reminiscent of a coup, with all his generals and point men endorsees in tow. McCain/Kennedy was was a buzzword -- like "timetables" -- for amnesty but did that get his attention?

Right on Mike...
Please publicly endorse Mitt Romney. We need you now!

thousands of POW's
How many thousands of POW's? To me they all are hero's. So what is it about McCain that makes him the better politician?

If being POW makes for a better politician than why did Grant, Ike get elected? By the way they were not very good presidents.

How is McCain going to control his temper? The other world leaders are not going to kowtow or be impressed with his POW status. He McCain going to threaten them, call them names; not very diplomatic.

Diplomacy is very important. Being tough at the star wars meetings was necessary but Reagan did not loose his temper.

Frontal area rocks!
Large caliber, that's why I traded in my hyper-accurate .375 H&H for a .404 Jeffery. The paper energy LOOKS the same but the shere moment of 400 v. 300 grains coupled with the frontal area of .423" v. .375" makes a more lasting impression on Mbogo and Simba.

-Ray

Yeah..Paris Hilton hates me
so, what's a big deal?

The fact is most of these pundits and columnists cannot tolerate those who are different from them. The fact that McCain is consistently pro-life and pro strong national security does not matter for this group of people.

Apparently for these folks, conservatism is all about cutting taxes!

Wrat
Not to mention the imperssion that makes on Osama's of this world.

McCain will never be President
John McCain will never be President because the Republicans will split over his Nomination just as they did in 92 over G.H.W.Bush and his broken vow, "Read My Lips; No New Taxes." That opened the door for Ross Perot (3rd Party) and ended up electing Bill Clinton.

John McCain did the same type thing when he voted against Tax-cuts, but even worse than that, - - - was when he united with (the great swimmer) Ted Kennedy to write and promote the Kennedy-McCain Amnesty Bill.

McCain could not beat either Hillary or Barack Hussein. Even though he did pick up the endorsement from Rudy and the "right hand side" of the Kennedy Family, Arnold Swartznegger, he still cannot win.

The only hope the Republican Party has is for Romney to win. The only way I see that happening now is for Huckabee to swallow his pride and unite with Romney as a "Romney - Huckabee" ticket. If they would do that before Super Tuesday, they might have a chance of unseating John McCain form an almost certain win of the Republican Nomination.

I have written both of them stating that but they will probably ignore it and McCain will be the Republican Nominee and the "Hillary-Hussein" ticket will probably win the election.

The Republican Party may be seeing the beginning of its END.

MCCAIN QUESTIONABLE AT BEST
The more I hear McCain, the more I wonder if I want a man in the Whitehous with one finger on the "button." A great military hero? Yes. The man for President? No. Too hot of a temper. It all started after the McCain-Kennedy "amnesty" plan was blown out of the water by the American people. McCain has flip-flopped on this issue
(supposedly), but yet put Juan Hernandez on McCain's staff. That speaks volumes for McCain's true position. I can't trust the man. Reagan defeated the Soviets with a strong economy. My choice is more butter, fewer guns. My choice is Romney.

Dear "Robert"
As much as it pains me to waste one second of my time on someone like you, I am compelled to implore you to do yourself and everyone else a favor and take your negative, liberal, blathering to a liberal blog where someone will actually give a crap about what you have to say.

McCain the worst possible candidate
McCain is a terrible candidate. I have never voted for a democrat, but if he runs, so help me I will. I rather turn the white house over to the devil than to a man who will ruin the party. I can't believe the republican party is sitting by and watching this man get the nomination! What the hell is wrong with these people? I'll tell you what the problem is, the liberal media, the evangelical anti-Mormon bigots (Way to go Iowa!), and the desire to be on the ticket with McCain (Huckalberry Retard).

Romney is the only real republican in this race at this point.

you must endorse Mitt
Michael,
Please endorse Mitt Romney for the sake of the GOP and the country.

Osama won't come out and play here.
Large Caliber,

WHY do you think the Osamas of the Islamofascist world never emerge from their safe strongholds? Can you imagine him seeking sanctuary in Canukistan with all those multi-cultural supporters in the Great White North. One step over the border at the wrong time of year and he'll take on the appearance of Ementaler. Say "cheese" you camel shagging vermin.

-Ray

McCain Is A Bobdole
Old and tired and a loser. Yes, yes, he was a POW, a hero, blah, blah blah...

Bobdole had a WWII war injury but that didn't help did it? Like McCain, he was past his prime but it was HIS turn.

McCain can't win
If he does turn out to be the nominee........turn out the lights. 4 years Obamanomics.

Good Article
Very well written Mr. Reagan and you may be right about the hatred that would just confirm his liberal left leanings all the more. Now that you mention it thats what I see in his face and eyes contempt and disdain for all of the rest of us.

slander and pander.
I,m seeing his commercials now where he says he is the social conservative. It seems he is willing to accomodate anyone but the right. The only option will be to split that right from the party. Then they will have to earn it like they pander to everyone else, including illegals. But talk is cheap.

ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS....
AMEN!
THANK YOU MICHAEL!

Mitt
Mitt may not be the perfect conservative choice, but at least he isn't the mentally unstable John McCainiac.

I just hope there's a re-evaluation of McCain in the Super Tuesday states by the Huckster's dupes, who will realize he's going no where and that stopping McCain is their most important task.

Please, evangelical republicans! Save us GOPers from being represented by a dim witted codger who is thoroughly corrupt, unprincipled and treacherous not to mention tempermentally unstable - and will never beat the democrooks.

ROBERT
Can't you demonstrate your mental acrobatics on some other site....a site that will appreciate your lack of performance????

Cycle of Abuse
McCain was a POW and from all accounts, beaten and tortured, for some 5 years on a daily if not regular basis.

We know the psychological impact of such behavior; we know from research that the abused comes to identify with the abuser and his/her power and upon reaching his/her own power, the victim will then abuse and punish. This is a portion of the cycle.

Anger is most often the emotion revealed from such torture and abuse. A person feeling helpless to change the situation develops quite a bit of anger, without doubt, about such mistreatment.

McCain is a walking time-bomb of anger, psychological abuse and will reveal this, as he has already at various times, showing his inability to be a leader.

McCain is a victim and as such we know what damage that type of mentality can do to a society.

Just because he endured torture and abuse doesn't qualify him to be a leader of anything.

If that were the case then all battered women should be running the country by now...well, I guess one of them does want to. ;)

Exactly right
Mccain’s contempt for the American people, particularly conservatives, has long been evident in his policies, political rhetoric and demeanor. The disdain he radiates would make voting for him feel self destructive and masochistic.

McCain's no Maverick...
He's a RENEGADE.

"1 : a deserter from one faith, cause, or allegiance to another"

There's something deeply reprehensible about a person who rubs everyone's nose in his heroism.

Does anyone remember JFK talking about his heroism during WWII, other than to say "They sank my boat"?

Does anyone remember Bush41 bragging that he was the Navy's youngest fighter pilot in WWII, and reminding everyone that he got shot down in the Pacific?

Does anyone remember Bob Dole waving his bad arm in the air to remind everyone how much he suffered from war wounds?

At bottom, McCain's "argument" for his candidacy is ..."I'm a war hero, so STFU."

CONSERVATIVES FOR MITT
MITT SUPPORTERS, GO TO MITT'S WEBSITE AND CONTRIBUTE TO HIS CAMPAIGN TO STOP THE MCCAIN TRAIN WRECK EXPRESS.

ITS NOT TOO LATE TO GIVE MITT SOME MOMENTUM GOING INTO SUPER TUESDAY AND TAKING THIS THING ALL THE WAY TO THE CONVENTION, AND THEN ALL THE WAY TO THE WHITEHOUSE. ROMNEY IS THE LAST AND BEST HOPE OF THE REMAINING REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES TO PRESERVE CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES AND MAINTAIN THE REAGAN COALITION INTACT.

FLOOD MITT'S SITE AT http://www.mittromney.com/homepage AND GIVE TO HIS CAMPAIGN, EVEN IF IT ISN'T A LOT. EVERY CONTRIBUTION HELPS.

Why everyone should hate John McCain ..
http://powwarrior.wordpress.com/2008/02/02/the-measure-of-t he-man-why-john-mccain-doesnt-measure-up/

This site was put together by families of POW/MIAs that are still unaccounted for from Vietnam. Read what McCain has done to these families. He can talk up his five 1/2 years in Hanoi all he wants. You simply don't do this to the people who helped set you free.

I sincerely hope that the Gates of Heaven are indeed guarded my US Marines. McCain will not get a "get out of jail free card" but a "do not pass go, do not collect $200" ...

Read for yourself, it will simply make you sick!

Michael, you rock!
Thank you for writing what so many of us are thinking! I am voting for Mitt and hoping the rest of my fellow Republicans will as well. We CANNOT let McCain take up residence in our beloved White House!

Eye Opening!!
Michael,

Thank you for being so bold. Please, please endorse Mitt Romney. We need to do everything we can to keep McCain from being the nomination. He is very comfortable right now in his thinking that he will be the nominee. Please help make him a little uncomfortable. We cannot let a man with no integrity become the Republican standardbearer.

McCain the angry little ROOSTER
My observations of Mr. McCain are limited, but he looks like he is so angry he is going to pop. If you observe his body language you may be surprised. He looks like an arrogant, conceited SOB. If you want an individual like that representing our country then go vote for him. McCain looks to me to be an explosive control freak. Mr. McCain is the Bantam rooster in the chicken yard.
It is indeed time for a change. Our country needs a strong leader, a diplomat and an articulate speaker. I am sorry, but McCain looks like a tired old man. Pick his VP well because McCain does not appear physically fit to handle this extremely important and highly stressful job.
Thank you for allowing to vent.

I agree
I agree with you 100%. McCain would bring disgrace to the White House. He is a cranky old geezer. I pray that the American people aren't that gullible. They have to be smarter than that. We can't let the biased media choose our president for us. Please America, wake up! Mitt is the best, most qualified, honest candidate.

Your father
I do not see why everyone says you must endorse someone. But if you must, why can it not be the same man that was endorsed by your father, Congressman/Dr. Ron Paul? He is very clearly the only one that is a TRUE Statesman and fully understands economics. If anyone needs a clear example of this, I'd recommend a video I came across last night at

http://goldsilver.com/video_player.php?video_id=8&cat_id=2& ss=c2d2203f50f22905367eaea752b1708f

I think by far it is one of the best examples of Dr. Paul's understanding on this most important matter. It's 38mins long and every bit of it is fascinating.

McCain doesn't care about anyone.
When McCain greets people he does not look them in the eye and have a caring response. He shakes one hand while he looks ahead into the crowd repeating thank you thank nothing of substance. When in debate he does not listen. Some of the questions he does not even address but just keeps repeating the same old war war war. I don't think he even understands. It is very scary to think he might be the republican nominee. My biggest problem came however when he lied about Romney and wouldn't admit it.
He's a bad, bad man.

Endorsing Romney?
Sorry I am not up to date on some news? I heard that Mrs. Reagan is endorsing Mc Cain. Where does Michael stand? Does he endorse Romney?

And secondly
I hate McCain. He is the biggest liar and flip flopper out there, well he is a close tie with Huck.

Michael, are you serious?
"I am appalled by his contempt for the intelligence of his listeners when he flat-out lies and expects them to believe what he says even when the truth is staring them in the face."

Interesting. Now I have to get back to reading "Firewall: The Iran-Contra Conspiracy and Cover-Up".

So you hate McCain -- yep, he's the Con target du jour. But TH commenters, please don't say that McCain is a Liberal. We don't want him either.

Just wanted to say thanks, Michael
It's column like this one that helped ensure McCains victory tonight.

Keep up the good work.

Trator
John McCain IS a trator, a mole for communists within the Republican party. Apparently the communists have infiltrated and taken over the republican party. If he wins the nomination, I will change my affiliation and become an independent because that will be no place for conservatives or libratarians! We are lost in the wilderness.
