Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

Every morning God wakes me up and whispers in my ear, “Goest thou, Mary, through Cyber Land and write for the people.  Spread the truth about the evils of atheism, false churches with racist preachers, the egotists who place faith in man’s own ability, and the dangers of a ruler who would be socialist emperor rather than one who leads with a ‘servant’s heart.’”

(God speaks to me in the King James version because I am an English major.)

I jump out of bed, sometimes even jotting down these inspired thoughts on the paper on the bed stand, and happily put on some coffee for the day’s work ahead: what God tells me to do.

There have been times in my life when I have not listened to God.  As a result, I brought on suffering and unhappiness for myself and others.  That was when I was younger and thought I knew better than God.  When I catch myself going that way again I ask God for direction.  Yeah, He and I are on a first-name basis.

Now that I’ve admitted that, I know I should never run for Vice President of the United States, or indeed any kind of office (even if my status as a naturalized citizen should not preclude some).

I know that if word got out about my faith, I would invite concern about my mental abilities.  I have never addressed a congregation, but I have been known to speak about my beliefs about what God wills for me and the gifts he’s given me.  At this point in my life, I pretty much know that my gifts are limited, that I cannot be “anything I want to be” as the educationists and progressives would have me believe.  I know that I have not been given the gift of singing (my son as a newborn laughed at my lullabies) or mechanical gifts (like replacing a tiny halogen light bulb).  But I do think He has given me the gift of writing and I try to use that gift and persuade others to follow His plan.

Some people are given gifts of leadership.  Some political leaders go to a particular church for political expediency.  After they decide they want a career in politics, they sit year after year listening to words of hate about the white race, the United States, and Republicans.

Others go to church because they want to take in the word of God.  As they sit there listening to the Word of God and learning about right and wrong, they may decide to take that insight and apply it to the way they lead.  The church they are in may be a church they’ve belonged to since childhood.

I can understand how they could take what they hear in church and apply it to public policy.  For example, I think God tells me too that this nation, founded on Judeo-Christian principles, should not be beholden to Middle Eastern dictatorships for its energy supply.  God tells me too that we should protect the innocent, whether they’re in the womb or simply going to work in a New York office tower.

I too have found inspiration in church and must confess that when others might think I am taking notes on the sermon, I am really writing down ideas for columns or for my creative writing.  I hear things in the sermon that I apply to current events or fictional characters.  So while a governor might be thinking about public policy, I’m thinking about what I will write.

I don’t know if I’ll ever be famous enough for CNN to visit my church to find out about me, though.  I don’t think they’ll have a “special, exclusive investigative report” about such “shocking beliefs,” like the inerrancy of the Bible and the notion of sin.  Most of my colleagues in academia have already ostracized me for holding such views, views that do not require skepticism and a careful measuring back and forth, with sufficient footnote citations from atheistic colleagues.

I don’t think I’ll have to worry about CNN’s Christiane Amanpour thrusting a microphone in my face and asking, “Do you, Mary, REALLY believe that the Bible is the truth, the revealed word of God?  I mean, do you REALLY believe that God tells you what to do?”  I don’t think I’ll have to worry about a cut to a shot of her facial expression, of benevolent concern as one would expect for a foaming inmate of the Recovery House for Schizophrenics and Religious Fanatics.   Nor would I have to worry about her raised eyebrows at my answer, “Well, yes, John Milton, for guidance, called upon the ‘Spirit, that dost prefer / Before all temples the upright heart and pure.’  So why not I?”   Nor would I have Anderson Cooper’s furrowed brows, as he says, “Wow, Christiane.  Amazing story.  That woman has a Ph.D. and teaches college students, yet actually believes in the Holy Spirit.”  Unlike other Christians under scrutiny, I would not have to suffer Amanpour, putting on her look that says, “There are some that we progressives just cannot help,” responding, “That’s right, Anderson.”   Nor would Erica Hill make her own cute eyebrows jump perkily to show her sophistication.

I don’t think anyone will tape my conversations expressing my beliefs.  I don’t think they’ll post them on YouTube.  I don’t think I’ll ever get the same scrutiny and opprobrium, as Sarah Palin did in this week’s CNN special for telling her congregation, “’Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right,” “for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God” and that “there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.”  Nor would I have such words quoted in the Huffington Post and intended to be held up for ridicule.

The only ones concerned with my religious beliefs (or more accurately that my beliefs do not fall under the acceptable denominations of Muslim, Wiccan, Zen Buddhist, or Gaia worship) are the people who hire college faculty or publish creative writing.  They don’t even need a YouTube video, just the fact that I write for this publication and not the Huffington Post, as some of my tenured colleagues and many novelists do, and that I mention God in my columns and try to put forth a moral message in my fiction.  For that, I labor as an adjunct instructor at two colleges and have two novel manuscripts waiting to be published.

But God tells me to soldier on, nonetheless, and to mock liberal stereotypes about Christians by presenting our conversations in the language of what they think is that of the King James Bible.

Hey Christians
I could use some help on a another site that I go to. I'm a lonely Christian amongst a whole lot of athiests and liberals.
HELP......

The politicove.com

Oops,typo
Should have read "you sound like a man after God's own heart."

Don
You are mistaken. All children belong to God. He said so. It is convenient for abortionsts to not believe it,though.

Thank you, though for the sermon. Tou sound like a man after God's own heart.

Rowly
......it is wrong to kill the innocent. Abortion is killing an innocent baby and almost 50 million have been murdered in the last five decades. God must be so disappointed that some of his children would kill their own.

You are mistaken. Not all are God's children. If you remember the words of Christ concerning Cain. Christ said that Satan was his father.
Do not believe that all are children of God. That is why you were told to discern the spirits. Discern is to judge. There are those who endevour to seek after God and there are those who follow after Satan.
All men do have it etched in their hearts the difference between right and wrong. But their hearts are hardened as stone.
Did not God say, "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated. They were yet in the womb. God knows who is his and who is Satan's.

God Told Me.......
......it is wrong to kill the innocent. Abortion is killing an innocent baby and almost 50 million have been murdered in the last five decades. God must be so disappointed that some of his children would kill their own.

Vampires Reflection
1.) Spend eternity being burned alive, flesh searing from body continuously in screaming agony

To put you straight. It is a misconception that those judged will suffer an eternal firey hell. Only bits and pieces are used to endorse this doctrine. But those judged according to the law will be cast into the lake of fire to be consumed.
Jesus spoke of the second death. If one spends an eternity in what is termed as hell, then that gives them eternal life. But this is not so.
Christ spoke of a beggar named Lazarus and a rich man. Lazarus died and was at the bosum of Abraham. Then the rich man died. Seeing Lazarus at the bosum of Abraham, the rich man begged Lazarus to dip his fingers into the water and touch his lips.
First of all both the Lazarus and the rich man died and their spirits returned to God. Spirit needs not food nor water for sustenance. The water is the water of life. The water of life is Jesus Christ. The rich man had no time for the word of God, he was too busy gaining more and more riches. Riches was the god of the rich man.
What Christ was saying was that like the rich man, a man will die and the spirit return to heaven. The realization that judgement is to come, the man destined for judgement soon learns that too late does the desire for truth now come.

I erred in typing about the 70 years. Judah did not go into captivity for 70 years. They were under Babylon's yoke for 70 years. What I typed was God said, but I meant to say that God did not say 70 years captivity.

Steven
Quibble #5) Some of us do know the difference
between the KJV and more recent translations.
We also know that the more recent translations
are usually more accurate, if perhaps less poetic.

Perhaps you should read the KJV vs the NIV or later editions. They differenciate if you know what to look for.

For instance, when Pharaoh Neco was passing through Judah the Eqyptian army was confronted by King Josiah. Neco told Josiah that he came not to war with the house of Judah, but against the house with which he had war. The newer version place Neco as going to fight against the Babylonians. This is totally a misconception. Neco was going to fight against the Assyrians.
The Eqyptians fought two battles near the town of Carchemish. The first, against the Assyrians and the second, against the Babylonins. Perhaps you might think this unimportant, yet it is part of the word of God.
Furthermore, too many Chritians believe that evolution could have used by God in the creation. It is those that have no idea that in the Book of Job, God talks with Job and details two creatures, Behemoth and Leviathan. Even Christian organizations attempt to place Behemoth as either an elephant or hippo, and Leviathan as a crocodile. But what God is describing is creatures greater than these. For what God is describing is no other creatures but what has been coined since the 1800s as dinosaurs.
In studying scripture, you will discover that God did tell Judah that the nation would go into captivity for 70 years. God saif that they would be under the yoke of Babylon for 70 years as would the other nations, such as Jordan and Syria for example. The nation of Judah did not go into captivity until the end of Zedikiah's 11 year reign.
There is no coming pretribulation rapture.
Daniel did not go into exile the third year of Jehoiakim's reign. Daniel went into exile in the third year of Jehoiakim's vassalship to Nebuchadnezzar.

I don't know God's answer for your complaints, but here are some that came to me:

"This site can bring out swear words that never
appear elsewhere."

Many liberal/progressive sites seem to not censor curse words. Salon.com is one of them. Perhaps you would be happier there?

"First, if someone is flagged as offensive and
the post is removed, the Post # should still be
there so that others will know who are what they talking about when someone mentions the
now-flagged report...Second, whatever made anyone think that putting
a number on a Reply was a good idea when that
number is going to change with every new poster."

Dunno, but somehow *almost* everybody seems to manage to communicate anyway. Does this flaw make it difficult for YOU to communicate? If so, you might ask how others manage so well.

"Third, why not an opportunity to also flag a
post as irrelevant, such as Amazon.Com does."

Perhaps because TH values free speech. They seem to think that DICTATING TOPIC is a bit authoritarian.

"Fourth, and wouldn't it be grand to be able to
get from the top of the page to the bottom
in something other than jerky minutes, if you
get there at all."

Salon.com seems to be pretty smooth. If you can't bear TH, you might go there instead.

"And get the popup ads out of my face."

On this one, I wholeheartedly agree.

Dreadnaught
I was being sarcastic. Sorry.

Love to all.

Dear Salt

I didn't think Jesus had started any religion.

Oh, and of course,
Jesus of Nazareth, an uneducated rural carpenter who had no qualifications to start a religion based on love and compassion.

Love to all.

Christians are stupid
Like St. Paul, Augustine, Ambrose, Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Paul II, George Washington, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, Mother Teresa, William F. Buckley, Malcolm Muggeridge, G.K. Chesterton, Martin Luther King, Fulton J. Sheen, Ravi Zacharias, Dorothy Sayers, Joy Davidman, C.S.Lewis, Simone Beauvoir, Brennan Manning, Isaac Newton, John Newton, Isaac Watts, Isaac Hayes, Francis Shaeffer, Dietrich Boenhoffer, Helmut Thielicke, et al.

There are more if you want another list

JIM051 in particular

I've seen a slew of posts here to dispute with. In particular the acerbic little mind Jim051's:

Jim is a piece of work. He begins with the subject of "arrogance," by asserting his own:

"Anyone who claims to speak for god or believes that he or she was chosen by god to be president is arrogant beyond imagination."

Meaning Jim sees Moses and John the Baptist, even Christ; as "arrogant."

Ending with:

"Stop the nonsense attacks on the media. Without their vigigance (sic) the only thing we have to go by in judging Palin is her carefully crafted image."

Why is he judging Palin at all? If she isn't in his good graces, he can always vote for the Democrats. Nobody's stopping him. Besides; an adult American who thinks for a minute that our media is vigilant --(correct spelling) can well be assumed to lack judgment altogether.

The hatchet job Gibson was sent on by our "vigilant media" convinced every sane voter in America Palin must be the genuine article. If not; why is the media carrying on such a vendetta --???

BTW, Jim: God is apparently conservative when He needs to be. He's also liberal when it pleases Him, and because He is infinite Wisdom and Infinite Love, we should also become conservative for the right things; liberal as the occasion calls for.

Nothing is carved in stone except God's commandments. So, get off of God's case.

God Told Me to Write This Email
Mary, next time, "pray to God" that you write a better column. We, your readers, will be praying as well.

For Don and Tex-Mex some questions
Why was it then that the pullout from Vietnam occured not under groats LBJ or dhimmiwit Carter but under Nixon?

Question for Wrat Wrangler @ 12:33
Two elections stolen? I had thought (at least since 1996--and with my anti-Nixon attitude) that the only one stolen was 1960 by Democrud JFK (though come to think of it, LBJ was just as crooked...)

Proof Positive of the Need for Change
I accuately can write a letter-perfect sentence
with good grammar. But when words show up on
the page long after I have typed them, the
proof-reading gets short shrift.

Change is needed.

P.S. to Ms. Grabar
If you really do have a pipeline to God, please
ask Him to convince the people who manage this
website to get their act together and make it
actually work.

This site can bring out swear words that never
appear elsewhere.

First, if someone is flagged as offensive and
the post is removed, the Post # should still be
there so that others will know who are what they talking about when someone mentions the
now-flagged report.

Second, whatever made anyone think that putting
a number on a Reply was a good idea when that
number is going to change with every new poster.

Third, why not an opportunity to also flag a
post as irrelevant, such as Amazon.Com does.
There are a bunch of people on this site who
carry on conversations that may start out as
irrelevant but end up doing everything but
giving out personal phone numbers.

Fourth, and wouldn't it be grand to be able to
get from the top of the page to the bottom
in something other than jerky minutes, if you
get there at all. And get the popup ads out
of my face.

Thanks for your time. I shall be witing for
God's answer.

Dear Ms. Grabar
I loved this column, even though are things in
it with which I do not agree. I especially like the humor with the reference to the King James Version.

Quibble #1: "I know that if word got out about my faith, I would invite concern...."
NOT TRUE. There would be far more concern if you had no faith. However, voters do want to
know that you are not going to foist your
brand of faith onto them. The law of the land
has to be based on something other than faith.
Fortunately, in many instances the law and faith are a happy mix.

Quibble #2) Spread the truth about... When
I was growing up, in a very small town, by
fundamentalist parents, the truth was that
there were no Muslims or Buddhists or Hindi,
and if there were atheists they kept there
mouths shut, which left only the Catholics to
worry about. They were hell bound and I could
only associate with my Catholic friend because
he had no sisters that I might marry. (This is
not an exaggeration). We also had no blacks and had no Jews but we did know two things about the Jews and that was they are God's chosen people but they are still going to hell.
In other words, Truth seems to change according
to what is the biggest threat of the moment.

Quibble #3) Don't put words into people's mouth. At least half your readership will take
it as gospel.

Quibble #4) I sneer at Palin's assumption that
War, because we happened to instigate it from
our country, is also God's War. Last I checked
with my Bible, all people are God's people.

Quibble #5) Some of us do know the difference
between the KJV and more recent translations.
We also know that the more recent translations
are usually more accurate, if perhaps less poetic.

Quibble #6) I am not quite as sure as you that
God wants you to mock any Christian, or maybe
any person at all.

LaDonna
It is unbelievable how you people take the Lord's name in vain.

You would be totally shocked how many curches and church leaders take the name of the Lord in vain. What would you call it when within the church something is taught other than scriptural? What would you call it when doctrines taught within the church are not according to all scripture, but bits and pieces because an alteration of the truth sounds better to the ear than the real truth.
Is that taking the name the name of the Lord in vain? And what is vanity? Did not Solomon write of vanity?
When the truth is forsaken and alternate truths substituted the truth becomes not of the God, who gave it, but from another god. The god of this world. Is this not vain?
If you examine scripture, all manner of blasphemies against God the Father and God the Son can be forgiven. It is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit that cannot be forgiven.
Yet neither a murderer nor a liar will enter the kingdom of heaven. And what did Christ mean by that statement? Christ was referring to those who perverted the truth of his word, for he is the Living Word. And in so perverting that truth, bringing others unto their perversions.
They are the ones who shall say, "Master, did we not prohpesy in your name, did we not cast out devils in your name". And Christ shall tell them to depart for he knows tham not.
A spiritual murderer is greater than the murderer of the flesh. yet God commanded that those who shed innocent blood be put to death. Can Christ do no less of that for a spiritual murderer?
As many are safe within the confines of their church and their teachings, believing that their faith in Christ has sealed them from the judgment. But one cannot trust and build faith in a one other than the true Christ. The Christ who gave us the written word. But a word that cuts through the bone marrow, therefore the word must be altered by men soas can be vain without guilt for lack of knowledge.

Kerry's own men spoke at the DNC about his heriorism. The anti-war movemnet helped to end the war quicker. The Hawks wanted to extend the war.

Kerry's men could say nothing other than elevate their fellow swift boat officer. But one thing is true. Kerry did not serve that much time in Viet Nam, nor were all three purple hearts direct results of wounds sustained as a result of enemy action.
Think what you want, but as a veteran I detest Kerry for the lies given to House Senate Committee as to Viet Nam. And to further this treacherous act, imposters acting as vererans were included amongst this group.
Kerry was no more a hero than anything that served in real combat actions against hostile forces.
I saw more combat than Kerry could possibly dream of.
The antiwar movement cared for nothing other than saving themselves from having to make a commitment to the country that others served and sacrified so they could act the fools they were. The rights they too for granted then as now.
Brought to you from a two tour vet.

Mea culpa
That was intended for our newest Lib-Troll, LaDonna.

The only two stolen elections
were when JFK won because the Crook County DEMOCRAT machine got out the dead vote. The other was when Goldwater was backstabbed by that lying turd Bill Moyers who foisted the "Flower Girl" ads on an unsuspecting American public.

EVERY liberal rag newspaper in the nation tried their damnedest to "prove" that FL 2000 was a stolen election. In the end they ALL admitted that, while close, it was legitimate and the Supremes were right to reign in a rogue DEMOCRAT FL state court.

As for Ohio you trolls just keep wetting yourselves over that one don't you? There was no rigged vote and no false smearing. The Swift Boat guys have been exonerated by History will always be so.

EXCUSE ME>>>>>>>GOD?
It is unbelievable how you people take the Lord's name in vain by using it to lie, cheat and steal an election once again!!!!I am as devout Christian as you get and I am appalled that people like you use God's good name to further your political agenda!!!!!!How dare you....you ARE Satan among us spreading your hate and lies against God's own flock!!!!!

Tex Mex guera
Bush's failed policies?

Yep, his failed policies.
Hey, Bush was doing great,( yep he was doing great, and so were his buddies) saving us from attacks.

The economy was rocking. UNTIL . . . until the Democrats took over the Congress two years ago. Since then, things went downhill.

Yep, the economy was rocking, especially if you made over $300,000/year. If you were making $60,000/ year it was rocky.

Remember, the president doesn't vote on laws, doesn't vote on taxes.

Actually the president kind-of-has a vote. He gets to say which bills become law.

So if a presdent doesn't veto any bills for 6 years then he must have agreed with every single one of them. All of the budget busting bills that were sent to his desk from Republicans were signed without hesitantcy.

From $5.6 trillion dollars national debt to $10 trillion dollars in debt. In a little more than 6 years. Heck, that beats Reagan a man who never vetoed a budget bill.

So blame the DEMOCRAT congress if you don't like the economic situation!!!

yep, blame the democrats. Blame them for the hurricanes. Blame 1/2 of the population for bad weather, and the plague, and the insects. yep, us Godless-Kommie/MSM lovin/Socialists are responsible for everthing.

Heaven or Hockey Sticks
"I will not waste breath on an atheist, not worth it. Your merit is rather disarmingly deficient. "

Nice. I'm sure Jesus would agree that atheists are people not worth witnessing too.

Christians are exemplary of what to expect if one wants to get to Heaven.

So the choices are:

1.) Spend eternity being burned alive, flesh searing from body continuously in screaming agony.

2.) Spend eternity with Christians, the likes of Mary Grabar.

Between the two options I'm thinking the first choice is far more desirable simply because I have no experience with choice 1 and plenty of experience with choice 2. Choice 1 is definitely more appealing.

Pamela
Don't let the Kommie/Socialists that parade their ignorance on this site bother you.

You are right, the economy is doing great!!! Two more investment house are going belly-up, the unemployment rate is at a healthy 6.1%, the national debt is at $10 trillion dollars, 45 million people can't afford health insurance so they go to the emergency room instead of a doctor and we still have 130,000 troops in Iraq.

It's nice to know that there are places Americans can go if they are hitting a slightly rough spot in their lives.

unfortunately..
I can't read any posts, so I'm posting blind.

I do want to thank you, Mary, for this beautiful article.

God told the Israelites at least four times in the first chapter of Joshua to 'be strong and very courageous' as they took the promised land.

There were giants in the land, just like today....media giants, political giants, academic giants etc... They are all trying to intimidate us and make us *feel* powerless, less intelligent, insignificant, obsolete.

It's never been a matter of *feelings* for the Christian. It's a matter of faith. That's all that is required and God will do the rest.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

The battle is already won.

Another relicious victim
Sounds like the poor author is being persecuted by the almighty educational establishment and the main-stream-media.

It's a shame that such a gifted author is not being allowed to publish anywhere other than TH by the elite socialists that ridicule any True Believers and try to demonize Christians by not allowing them to worship in their own churches, sing the praises of their own God and restrict their free-speech rights.

Oh well, life's a beetch.

wes, that's nonsense
There is no 2400:20 ratio. Besides, you don't ask the right questions in the right order. Do we use all of the same sensors as 100 years ago? Of those we do, are they in the same envoronment and microclimate? Do we account for solar activity and the warming on Mars? Are the old sensors as accurate as the new? Can the models predict historical patterns when run backwards? Has any change been correlated with human activity? Would correlation demonstrate causation?

Now, Wes, do you know that the answer to all of the above questions is "No"?

I'm betting that the answer to my question to Wes is also "No".

Liberal lies and JMO51
"The anti-war movemnet helped to end the war quicker. The Hawks wanted to extend the war.

Nixon stalled ending the war for political reasons."

Now we know what liberals lies JMO51 has been fed in school. It will be of no use arguing with him on any points of history, as he is a product of the liberal distortions built into America's history books. There is no cure for these folks except a mental purging and restart, which will not happen on thi forum.

LBJ expanded the number of troops to 553,000 by 1969, when Nixon took office. He planned to Vietnamize the war by traing the Vietnamese troops. His heavy bombing of the north, the prior Tet defeat of Hanoi, and his severance of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, and his being the first president to pursue the enemy into Cambodia had nearly won the war. He went over the heads of the biased liberal media directly to the people. By 1971, he reduced the nuimber of troops to 200,000 and by Feb. 1972 to 155,000. Before he resigned, the number was 50,000 and South Vietnam was free. After he resigned, the stpid and evil Congress pulled the plug on US support, resulting in the deaths of a million Vietnamese, loads of boat people, and the genocide of a million in Cambodia. The dominoes fell as predicted.

So much for the derision of that theory by the liberals. Kennedy gets no blame and Nixon geets no credit. Debating with the unwashed is futile.

Late to the Party for Myk
The King James 'authorized' a new translation of the Bible because the Geneva Bible had some bad things to say about the divine rights of kings. Its as simple as that. The KJV became the most popular English language Bible because of its incredible use of the English language. The phrases seem to roll of the tongue effortlessly. It is still one of the most precise translations available.

BTW Tyndale first translated the Bible into English so that "the ploughman could be as familiar with the Bible as the bishop." As another poster mentioned he was burned at the stake for his trouble. How far we have fallen to willingly give that up.

WHat about Big Number 3
Yes, I believe that God guides us, too. However, I am very leery of the "God told me..." unless I hear book, chapter, and verse following (yes, Ms. Grabar, I like the KJV, too). The 3d commandment, which tells us not to take the LORD's name in vain, is not so much aimed at the guy who blurts out "Jesus" when he hits his thumb with the hammer instead of the nail, but at those who would play at being prophets. I've heard a lot of people who claimed a direct line to the Almighty, and the only conclusion I have reached is that we made a mistake when we stopped flogging the Quakers and Goody Hutchinson's out of town at the cart's tail.

JMO51 . . . Amusing

It was amusing to read "JMO51" piously accuse conservatives of describing "moderates" and "liberals" as FAR LEFT. When I was a young history student at university during the early 1970's, I was a member of the radical (Trotskyist) Left. I can't even begin to count the number of times I have heard some hysterical Liberal or Leftist refer to those even SLIGHTLY more conservative than themselves as "FASCISTS". Even though modern Fascism began as one permutation of CENTRALIZED socialism, even libertarians . . . because of their free-market philosophy . . . are sometimes accused, by those on the Left, of being "Fascist". Mussolini was a member of the Socialist LEFT before he joined the Fascists . . . who also advocated tight state control and DICTATES over private enterprises, even if those businesses sometimes remained, technically, in "private" ownership. Those on the Left throw around the word "Fascist" as carelessly as Joe McCarthy threw around the word "Communist".
P.S. As a former Marxist, I know a Socialist
in sheep's clothing when I see one.
Even though he will not admit it, Obama
IS a "closet" Socialist.

Then WHO got the money?
There was a huge cash award offered for anyone who could conclusively prove the Swift Boat story was false. In FOUR YEARS not a cent was collected because Corsi was DEAD ON ACCURATE just as he is with "Obama Nation". Say it fast, it sounds better.

Oh, Wes, Wes, Wes..
You have sooo much to learn about the history of this nation's founding it's really hard to read your posts. Your mind's made up and you've locked out the ability to learn and understand. Just remember this. Many millions of Christians have lived on your side of life. And then, after learning and understanding, they became Christians. The pieces all come together and make sense perfectly. Faith in Christ is a reasoned faith, based on evidence in all fields of life. History, archeology, ancient literature, science, yes science, ect. Many of the world's most intelligent inventors, scientists and intellectuals have been Christians throughout the ages. Objectively learn Biblical prophesy and the history of the Jews and Israel. That alone has led millions to Christ. The story of Christ so transends man's ability to make it up it's laughable. The reason our founders did not create a theocracy should be obvious. Most people we're already Christians. It was thee prevailing worldview in the " new " land. They wanted to flee a national church because noone wanted to be subjected to the British throne. Each state had their own denominations within Christendom. The sovereignty of the states was of major importance. So, important were their differences, that it delayed out forming of our Union. Read and learn !

Nice posts, Harold, pamela !!!
As a newcomer to this site I am encouraged by the high quality of people, like yourselves. I hope the liberals learn the truth about life, before it's too late. Thanks for fighting for the hearts and minds of our people. This country is the best. God Bless America !

True American
The foundation of this country is built on Judeo-Christian principles. That's a fact. That's why Americans have the freedoms they enjoy. We are a republic, often called a democracy. The Declaration of Independence states the right of an American to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

Socialism does not allow individuals to make choices. The Dems are peddling Socialism.

A True American wishes to uphold the rights and freedoms of the individual. A True American takes responsibility for their training and work. A True American takes responsibility for his/her own actions, including supporting the family. A True American makes an effort to learn the facts and make choices based on facts.

The fact is that America is not "going to h__l in a handbasket". Our economy has grown 3.3% in the last quarter. Community Colleges and Universities and Apprenticeships are really eager to admit people to replace the baby-boomers who are retiring. Their enrollments are really going way up. Grants and scholarships are there for the taking. An apprentice gets paid while they learn on the job. So the opportunities are there. And there are places to stay for those who need the help in getting back on their feet. In my city, a large and brand-new center for women and children is being built by Rescue Ministries. There are food banks and the Salvation Army.

Since we have the wherewithal to give a hand up, why would anyone want to settle for Socialism? Our country is such a blessing that people all over the world want to come here. The greatest blessing of all is to have been born in the US, or to become naturalized. What more could we want?

24 Hours Later
Liberals [Progressives=NOT] seem to always be far down the information curve on almost everything.

It is funny, now that I understand, how many things I was actually dim-witted about while thinking I was an elite and advanced thinker. But the One Who wrote The Book is a little more intelligent than any of us.

I think several points need to be made.

JMO51, do you not understand that the Creator of the Universe [you know the One who Spoke & a hundred billion galaxies instantly flashed into existence, yeah that One] chose Bill Clinton and George Bush and Reagan and Carter and EVERY President and every King, etc. There are NO coincidences, and not one sparrow falls from the sky without His knowledge.

JMO51 your statement that B.O. is a moderate makes me wonder if you even support him. He is more extreme in almost any category than any other Senator. He is actually more extreme on abortion, which is truly scary, than any other senator.

Abortion and Homosexuality are now [I used to approve] some of the greatest crises because the lead directly to the destruction of the family, and human lives. BOTH! destroy human life. Although you do not get it.

Sarcasm? You haven't spent much time in the Bible have you? God doesn't play, and He doesn't say "don't judge." We had better judge! BUT we had better do it in love, and with the warning "lest ye be judged." We'd better stick to the WORDS of the Bible. Like about homosexuality. SEE Romans Chap 1 !!!!

Finally, The Bible specifically says that God will actually GIVE the Foolish their lie. If you want it He gives it to you!

Good luck JMO51. Been there done that and I'd recommend you start thinking critically about what works and what does not. Liberalism does not work, because it cannot work.

Recovering Liberal

Ben is wrong continued...
Your conclusion is a total contradiction:

Global warming will take a while to prove, but 2400 of the world's finest and most respected scientists say it's REAL based on provable experiments. If 2400 doctors told you that your child was ill would you listen to them or would you listen to the 20 or so other doctors who told you not to worry?

Again, don't even bother with the "evolution hasn't been proven" argument. You are wrong. Just because your priest or minister or whatever tells you that "evolution is just one theory" about how life began doesn't make him right.

Consider:
1. A scientist has nothing to gain or lose by telling you that evolution is true.

2. Your minister/priest/rabbi/reverend has a vested interest in you NOT believing what has been scientifically proven.
i.e. He puts bread on his table with your donations. If you decide that religion is wrong about evolution, and therefore everything else, you'll probably keep your money and he'll have to get a real job. So it's in his best interest to lie to you about Reality. (And you're not allowed to question his authority are you? They used to kill people for that didn't they?

So Ben. You can Choose to bury your head in the sand (although I have no idea WHY you would do that when the real story of how we came to be is so much more amazing that the story made up in the bible) but please don't tell me that you're an intellectually curious born again christian. That's too funny for words.

Tex Mex
Don't forget the Original Cut-And-Runner:

Ronald W. Reagan!!!

The first time we were EVER attacked by Muslim extremists it was in Beirut! What did The Gipper do???

Ran like a chicken back to the roost.

Guess what? It saved lives. What should we have done? Nuke Lebanon in 1983? That would have been a great idea. (sarcasm, tex. google it.)

Wes is not correct.. cont'd
That being said, I also am very intellectually curious. I desire to understand the world around me at a much greater level. I read and study about how things work. I enjoy scientific conjecture about why things are the way they are. I also am able to understand that much of science is, in fact, conjecture. There is still, in our understanding of this universe which we call home, much, much more that we don't know than that which we do know. Even science, in the case of every experiment ever conducted, involves belief. There are many currently held scientific tenets which require a level of belief in the absence of clear and concrete conclusions. Evolution and global warming are two THEORIES which come to mind. Neither of these can be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. In the case of global warming, especially, there are just as many scientists who would argue against the theory as there are who would argue for it. Evolution, due mainly to its longevity in the consciousness of the people on this planet, has become more accepted. Acceptance does not, however, prove anything. I love when proponents of either of these two theories argue that, simply because "a lot of" or even "most" people agree that theses theories are true, we should all just say ok and start believing them, too. That is decidedly unscientific.

In conclusion, I, as a Bible believing, born-again Christian, do not feel stifled or limited in my exploration of the exciting details of the inner workings of the world around me and of this great universe in which we live. Rather, my firm belief provides freedom to explore all avenues of thought without fear of being led astray.

Wes is not correct
He said...

"Intellectual curiosity and True Belief by definition can not coexist in the same person."

Of course, I understand why he would say that. By inference, his definition of "True Belief" is that of total submission to a particular doctrine. There are, however, many doctrines taught in different sects of all religions. Hence, there are many different "True Belief"s.

I, as an example, am a devout Christian, in that I firmly believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ, in all of his teachings, in the ideas that I was born imperfect, and, in order to overcome that imperfection, I must accept both the free gift of salvation which was made available by his death, and the rule of the resurrected Jesus Christ in my life. I must make him Lord of my life.

Vietnam
No, the conservatives did NOT want to extend the war, they wanted to win it.

Anyone can END a war if they SURRENDER.

Anyone can create PEACE if they agree to be SLAVES. Don't protest, don't fight, don't defend your country, and soon you won't be able to.

Benjamin Franklin said it best: "Those who would choose security over liberty will soon have neither."

Bush's failed policies?
Hey, Bush was doing great, saving us from attacks (unlike Clinton, who did NOTHING when our ships, embassies and WTC were attacked). The economy was rocking. UNTIL . . . until the Democrats took over the Congress two years ago. Since then, things went downhill. Remember, the president doesn't vote on laws, doesn't vote on taxes. So blame the DEMOCRAT congress if you don't like the economic situation!!!

Swift Boat Lies
Kerry's own men spoke at the DNC about his heriorism. The anti-war movemnet helped to end the war quicker. The Hawks wanted to extend the war.

Nixon stalled ending the war for political reasons.

Irene said...
"But I must say, if I had a child who died in Iraq, I might not be so accepting of a politician's very public prayer that this was God's plan for them."

Ok, you didn't say you wouldn't or couldn't accept it. So, I must assume that you do believe that it is in God's plan for all of us to die, at some point or another, and that some of us will die young, and that some of us will die, young or old, from something other than natural causes.

Because, if you agree that these occurrences, too, are part of God's plan, then, although it may be more difficult to accept these occurrences, you must.

Or, you must, as some who do not believe in God would do, presume to say that these died before their time, or that their deaths were needless or useless. That is what many who argue against this war, and every other war to which they are witness, are willing to do.

If one truly believes in a God worth believing in, one must then leave to that worthy God the right and the honor of deciding what is his plan and when it is too early or useless to die.

JamieR
"So take your "Swiftboat Veterans have been debunked" BULLSH!T, and shove it where your head normally is."

Nice, really nice. I suppose that you're a good god-fearin' christian too?

What was your uncle's unit, and where and when did kerry's treasonous activities kill him? I'm Dying to know.

I'm sure that the Viet Vets who acknowledged that they had seen and done things they considered war crimes, admitted those things not because they felt guilty, but they did it because they thought it would be good for their careers.

You are an idiot. Go back to watching the Dukes of Hazard.

You go ahead and believe whatever you...
want Mary, you're not running for elected office.

The reason religious people scare non-religious people when they run for office is because they have been taught to believe what they are told.

Intellectual curiosity and True Belief by definition can not coexist in the same person.

A person can't believe that the universe is 6000 or so years old unless he or she shuts out the scientific facts that show those beliefs to be wrong.

If you as an intelligent person believes the bible (whatever version you choose, how many versions of "The Word" are there anyway?) then you visit the creation museum in Kentucky and believe what you see in spite of the scientific facts.

Science works even if you don't believe in it.

You sound like a nice, albeit delusional person. Your colleagues haven't ostracized you for your voicing your views. They've ostracized you for believing in things that are provably false. A trait which is fine in a teacher, but not in the second highest office in our country.

And one more thing: You religious people always refer to our country as having been founded on Judeo-Christian values...
Why, if this were true, didn't our founding fathers just write this into our country's documentation? It sure would have been a simple thing for Thomas Jefferson to specify how awesome God is, and therefore our country should just have Ten Laws.

You'll notice that he didn't. He accidentally left all that Christian stuff OUT of the constitution... because he was smart. Because as a worldly man with a curious mind, he realized that there's more to religion that just Christianity.

It's also true that we didn't say "Under God" in the pledge of allegiance until the 1950s during that awesome "red scare" that was such a great chapter in American history. But I digress.

Guess What?
There are non-Republican, devout Christians too! Some even consider themselves progressive. We pray too (though maybe, if I must generalize, in a more quiet way). No one is faulting Sarah Palin for holding religious beliefs. But I must say, if I had a child who died in Iraq, I might not be so accepting of a politician's very public prayer that this was God's plan for them.

Lepanto
You are right no party owns god. But the Republican party has been for years trying to pass itself off as the God Party.

jax33
You sound like a typical conservative- Sarcastic.

The Principal
Of Course the Swift Boaters were debunked. You just were not listening because to do so would be to trust the MSM.

T.C. If you are an extreme rightwinger of course you are going see everyone as a far left liberal. I recall Conservatives lodging this same claim at Bill and Hillary Clinton and at every democrat. Obama is a moderate. But Right Wing Nut extremists believe that if they call every moderate a left winger they can make extreme right positions appear to be practically mainstream.

B2slim:

I don't know it seems that the GOP is the party of divisiveness. Trying to create a wedge between cities and rural areas between immigrants speaking spanish from real white americans. That is why the Republican convention was the whitest in its history.

The Republican convention was dripping with sarcasm but right wingers ate it up. Conservatives are plenty angry and Palin playing the victim is all about stroking that anger and creates an opportunity to change the subject from the failed policies of the Bush Administration. The question Palin cannot answer how a McCain/Palin administration would be different from a Bush/Cheney Administration. Because when you peel back all the non-specific descriptions as reformers what you get is more of the same.

Finally, Conservatives throw god around as if they own him. Arrogant.

They obsess about Abortion and Gay Marrage and place tending to the poor or gods earth very low on their list of priorities.

GOD TOLD ME....
THAT PRAYER AND WORSHIP ARE PERSONAL...KEEP THE SCHOOLS OUT OF IT AND THE GVMNT.(ESPECIALLY MARRIAGES- HENCE NO GAY MARRIAGE BEING SHOVED

Grabar's grammar
I can't believe Grabar has a PhD in English. Or that she is very conversant with the King James English, because "goest" is NOT an imperative, it is simply the present tense of the familiar second person. Using incorrect English is bad enough for an average bloke, but from a professor of English, it destroys her credibility on everything that follows.

I loved
reading this thread, and I praise God there are so many believers posting, it's been such a treat to see where you are all coming from.
And yes this column was such fun and so apt and it was the catalyst for some many wonderful insights.
Will..you are so sad, I read your posts and you
sound so lost. You pretend to not believe in God, yet whenever there is a column about God
you respond with some pathetically silly posts.
I think you do know God is; but you are in such rebellion, like a little kid, you don't want anyone bossing you around. You pretend there is no God, by which you think you are free to
follow your sad and lonely life..but you aren't free, you are a slave to your life. You want
so badly, as my adopted son did, to have your
life validated and accepted and you blame God
when you should really look in the mirror. Don't condemn believers, we are just telling you
what God, the God that knew you before you were
born wants of you because he loves you.

Either she is,or someone else writes her scripts. Being married to Jamie Ruben doesn't help, nor does being a CNN operative. Also, being a staunch Democrat is a dead giveaway.

Explain to me, please, just why Christiane Amanpour is anti-American...or at least how you are qualified to make that judgment.

When you see an anti-American for what she is...it is being realistic...not paranoid.

Eyebrow reading
Amazing how you can read Christiane Amanpour's eyebrows - I never knew they had so much to say.

I think you have a paranoia problem.

GREAT COLUMN MARY GRABAR

Its nice to be able to laugh when I read something. As most people would attest, I have a dry sense of humor but I really enjoyed reading this column.

I once had an English Professor tell me that he thought I would make a great creative writer. I told him that I always had problems with my grammar but he told me that Shakespeare was one of the worlds greatest writers but that his grammar was awful too.

Many years ago I took my English 101 Composition
class at Georgia State University and at the end of the Semester I had to write one final essay that was to be graded by three English Professors for the Georgia Regents Exam. I had already complained about the Marxist Professors at Georgia State to my then English teacher and when I selected the abortion topic as my subject to write a final paper on it was graded with one professor giving my paper a...B grade, one giving it a C grade and the other one giving it a D grade....needless to say, when I stopped by my English Professors Office she chatted with me and to my astonishment admitted that it was highly unusual to have three grades that were so different from each other. She then said: I do think there might be something to your observations regarding Marxists professors. I was really delighted that she had the decency to validate my argument. I felt vindicated and have never looked back. Luckily, when the three grades were averaged they added out to a C grade which gave me a passing grade for the Regents Exam.

God's Mercies
Two of my favorite verses in the Bible that I always think about when I have had a sad day,and they are many is:

ISA.43,vs.2.."When thou passeth through the waters,I will be with thee:and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee:when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned:neither shall the flame kindle upon thee."

Also,ISA.40,vs.31
"But they that wait upon the Lord, shall renew their strength;they shall mount up with wings as eagles: they shall run,and not be weary;and they shall walk and not faint."

I also believe our Lord is warning us with catastrophies ,showing us his power.11Chron.Ch.7,vs14:
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways;then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

Katz, you forgot to mention----
Reference is made to Katz's comment #93

Katz, you forgot to mention all those pastor's, Evangelists and Evangelicals who got one of those "Jailhouse" conversions, Bill Kelleher being one of them. Must pay pretty good too!

Delle
Be careful not to be deceived by the devil. Jesus has given Mary power over the serpent. She is blessed among women and leads us directly to her Son. We don't go TO her, we go THROUGH her to her Son. He was a good Jewish boy--don't ever diss his mom!!!

Truetolife
Yes we are fighting a spiritual battle, however, II Corinthians 10:4 says, "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (earthly, tangible)), but mighty through God..." Ephesians 6: 10-18 tells us those weapons are the whole armor of God: Truth, breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God, and prayer.

Belief in God and Jesus Christ
Myself and my family have had too many "miracles" and wondrous things happen that could not be explained. I know my youngest daughter and I pray each day. WE BELIEVE.

We are
fighting a spiritual battle. The rosary is the most powerful weapon in our arsenal and strikes terror in the heart of our enemies. Faith is not for the weak of heart.

I hope you don't really think that the god in which the Muslims pray to is the same God as the God of Heaven.
They do pray to a god, but that god is the god of this world and its system of things.
As in days of old when nations worshipped many gods such as the ancient Greek and Roman worlds,
there are many gods being worshipped. Man has known since time beginning that there was but one God, but man continured the rebellion which had began in the heavenly and while man existed solely in spirit form.
Be not surprised nor dismayed should the nations of Islam spread across the globe like an uncontrollable wildfire. Rest assured that the nations of Islam will unite and will perpetrate a military campaign against the nation of Israel. The descendents of Ismael hate the descendents of Issac. And the rest if world will be dismayed when that happens. But the end is not yet come. For great tribulations will plague the world like a field plagued with locusts. And the end is not yet come, for these are the birth pangs of that which is to come destinated for the return of God as Jesus Christ.
And many of the faithful shall come to the knowledge that the rapture they had been promised by seemingly righteous men had not been forthcoming. Many shall lose the little faith they had, giving themselves to the whiles of the evil one, feeling betrayed by the God they trusted in. Yet they knew not that they were being deceived by the evil, who gaven unto men the false presumption that the church was to be carried out of the world before the appointed time.

The scriptures are specific in that God created Heaven and Earth in 6 days. Creations was completed in 6 days and God rested on the seventh. We are told in scripture that when death comes, the spirit within returns to God, who gave it. The spirit within all are not created as each person is born, but is a preexisting spirit created long before the foundation of the world.
Think of a rebellion shaping in the habitate of heaven. Rebellion involving spiritual beings not subject to age, disease, time or physical restrictions. In this time of rebellion, those in the rebellion were restrained and the Earth created. Those rebellious spirits were cast to Earth.
That rebellion had opned the door to sin, but God had a salvation plan. That plan required the creation of flesh. Death is the payment for sin and unless flesh was created and blood becoming an atonement, God would have otherwise had to destroy all that he created. Every spirit was then given an opportunity to become born of flesh.
To make a long story short. The fall of Adam severed the spiritual connection between God and man. Man became spiritually dead. But God's plan was to for himself to become flesh and make the payment fot fallen man. Once and for all time.
Some people are evil because the spirit within them is evil. The spirit wants to do that which is good and righteous, but the flesh fights against the spirit. The flesh desires that which is in opposition to God. Desiring wealth, power and all manner of lusts.
Until God became man in Jesus Christ to die and rise gain, God could not reestablish that severed spiritual connection in the form of the Holy Spirit. And God through that spirit talks to the hearts of every man. Sadly, few heed.

This is only a start to answer your questions. Read John 3:16; John 14:6; John 9:31; and Romans 3:22; according to the Bible.

God told me to write
Beautifully written! And, so true; so true!!!!!!

Thanks So Much Mary,...
...for your courage in writing this article.

I believe that there are some who are called to do a service (as Ms. Grabar), inspite of what seems to be draw backs, yet, God gives the anointing to succeed; all that is asked is to be obedient to the call.

I strongly believe that McCain/Palin is the winning ticket for '08, looking at the stand that they hold for human life and related issues that coincide with the word of God.

Some are critical of Sarah Palin for not being their for her children and that she has too many responsibilities.

There is always a sacrifice from a place of comfort to a place of obedience and growth, but obedience to that call is greater than the sacrifice. Why? Because it takes faith which is honored by God. I Samuel 15:22 says, "To obey is better than sacrifice."

I pray for Grace for McCain/Palin to get through this scrutiny from the MSM that has not come upon Obama.

The "community organizer" in the Gospels
The representative from Tennessee did not read the Gospel closely. Barabbas was organizing people to rebel against the government--and he was freed (perhaps to go back to his organizing), at the demand of the rabble that had been organized by the religious leaders who were afraid of Jesus.
You may say, "A rabble is not organized." But these people were certainly incited to make their demand.

The posts began with Randy’s proclamation of God’s existence [“case closed”]. After one hundred and forty three additional posts [most in a similar vein] Mary Hogan retorts to Will that she’ll “not waste breath on an atheist”.

Will [in his 4:29 PM post] had raised intelligent and fundamental questions about the myth of religion. We often hear obfuscation-passing-for-logic, and schizophrenic-religion-speak, but no one DARES to directly respond to Will’s clearheaded and logical propositions.

Will, I like you, have asked those same questions about why children are kidnapped, The Halocaust etc. I stepped back from my church (Baptist-KJV) and had to find the answer. Unfortunately my answer came when I got a call that my father was dying in the hospital some 700 miles away and had about 8 hours to live. Of course I drove as fast as I could to get there before he died. When we were in the hospice care room, I had called on a couple of preachers, pastors etc. and 2 did show up for my father. One inparticular was Tim Lott. After talking to him for a bit,he told me to read the book "Into the Light" by Dr. Lerma. Before all of this had happened I had been praying for anwers of, why all of the suffering that occurs with us all here on earth? I got my answer from God when I read the book. Among some of my answers was this. GOD GAVE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US FREE WILL. It is man that has the choice to commit the horrid things that we do to each other, NOT GOD. We have the choice to live right or wrong, unfortunately alot of people choose the wrong free will. Hence the reason we have murder, rape etc. Those will be the people that will answer to him in the end. It is not for us to judge, God is the only one that can Judge.
As far as getting diseases, to put it bluntly, we all have to die, we just never know how or what from, only God knows.

That is it, Linda.
That is chesed, love for your fellow man. Neither one of us give to get back.

There are times when I have contributed to Mesamche Lev for the holidays that I eeked through the month and maybe ended up with a few dollars from zero. But I knew it would all work out. God is beyond, beyond.

I'm not irresponsible, but I listen. I have never bounced a check or gone hungry since I've been on this path.

Re: what an article!
This is the best article I have read yet on this web site!!! I get very excited when finally someone in the media has the guts to give God the Glory!!! Amen, sister, Amen!! I pray that God will not give us what we deserve for not giving him the glory and put a socialist marxist liberal in the charge of a "So called" God fearing country!! I sudjest that we all need to get on our knees this election cycle!! Two candidates you can see has God on his thoughts(McCain/Palin), and the other two only give lip service and it is not on their hearts the actions of people are very forthtelling!

Words From God
When God speaks to me,it is in a Southern Drawl. Does that make him a Redneck? lol.

I have said before I believe Sarah Palin is the answer to our prayers. If I believe that,I would have to believe Obama could be of the devil. Notice, I said COULD be. I do not know.

It is said that "God knows the end from the beginning". I believe He is giving us one more chance to save this country from Godless socialism/communism. It may be our last chance.

Your right I truly believe God exists. Ex: My hubby and I were helping out a friend this past x-mas with their house payment. We didnt have much ourselves, but they had 2 small children and I just couldnt not help them out. As I wrote the check for $655.00 (enough to keep them out of foreclosure) My hubby got a phone call for a job at that exact moment. He made an appt to see the customer the very next day. My hubby wrote down every little cost for the job and when it was totaled up it came to exactly $655.00. Wow!. We couldnt believe it. It was the same exact amount as the check we wrote to our friends. God gave us back what we gave our friends in need.

Great Wisdom my friend
Retired Geek - 1:25 PM EST
Subject: My View on Religion
I chose Jesus and I was Born Again into the Kingdom of God.

My first initial battle was the scripture that said "We must become as Little Children to enter the Kingdom".

I thought surely my intellect and much learning would help me and Jesus said it would hurt me.

I finally decided that God is smarter than me and I would follow Him like a little child.

God spoke to me and said my job was to believe it was His job to understand.

What peace and contentment I have enjoyed!

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Ignore Will
He's just upset because certain of his activities are proscribed.

They do go on & on
Good article, Mary, even though I was almost 'afraid' to read it. Glad I did. Started out meaning to give kudos to all those I agreed with & speak sorrow for the un-informed and Un-God-ones--you know best who you are. And no matter what--God loves you--even if you deny Him-- the list got too lengthy to put in--you all read them.
I will say this--"poor ole God-less Will"--He does not believe in God--but God believes in him, and you and me and--- Wow--a life without God, (as Will has) now THAT is truly HeXX on earth--or anywhere!!

God and LIberals
I think you have nailed it squarely with regard to liberals. They hate Sarah because she loves God and isn't afraid or intimidated by their hateful balsphamy. To love God requires a measure of self introspection, this cuts deeply into the fun that is the illusion of sin. I pity them, but I know they live under God's grace the same as I. But deep within the recesses of their hearts they know that they will be weighed and measured and the reckoning is is waiting.

Will
This world is not the big game.

Life is difficult, why? Because it is very brief and actions speak a whole lot louder than words.

There are many people, me included who do believe that God knows what He is doing. Many of us have seen our children live through cancer and brain tumors and critical accidents that called for brain surgery. We could not have made it without God.

There are many of us who think because of medical problems that their children would not have children and we believed and we held those grandchildren.

Many of us who have searched the floor for change to get milk for our child and we made it.

There is a concept called Tzaddik v ra lo and Rasha v' tov low. Why do the righteous suffer and the vile succeed.

When you study Torah and realize that it is a sense of tikkun rectification, for self or a multitude you are prompted to ask, why do the vile suffer?

This world is not the Big Game, it is the testing ground.

I will not waste breath on an atheist, not worth it. Your merit is rather disarmingly deficient.

If more everyone believed in God, and did his will, there would be no need for all those prayers.

Will
You can believe that there is no God. He grants you that right. But what will you do when you stand before Him? We must all answer to Him for our lives. It's not too late even at the moment of death for He will call to you asking you to accept His salvation. If you do you will be forgiven and gain Heaven, If you don't you will be condemned for all eternity. That is God's promise to each of us. You can accept the salvation that Christ offers or not.

It is all in the Torah. Islam believes in Avraham and Sinai. They crumble without it.

It has never been the masses, Higene. It has always been a remnant. There is the clue.

Mary Hogan
I have always written as Mary Hogan. I do not know why I just used Mary, so it is not Simcha Levah, kinda, long story.

I'm going back to the full name of Mary Hogan. Sorry about the fiddling around. I ask your forgiveness.

Changed my name
Simchahalev or Simchalev. Too many Mary's.

For the Record
"UNC DOC" . . . .

I NEVER said that King James PERSONALLY wrote the King James version of the Bible. So please, don't put words in my mouth. I do have a degree in History, class of '73 . . . and I am NOT so naive as to believe that King James wrote it himself. I was simply pointing out that, in the process of commissioning a version of the Bible that he could personally approve of, it is not unreasonable to suspect that he had an AGENDA of his own. One of the reasons why King James was said to have detested the Geneva Bible was because its notes and commentary did not well serve his own political assumptions about his "Divine Rights" as King. Although my background is in European and Mediterranean history . . . . not the specifics of Biblical translation and scholarship, it is entirely reasonable, given James's documented character, to at least QUESTION how much scholarly and intellectual independence his own appointed Biblical scholars actually had. As for the alleged "Beauty" of the King James version, as some have claimed, compared to OTHER versions of the Bible, that comparative beauty is entirely subjective in the eye of the beholder.

"RAY" of SC . . . .

I'm not disagreeing with you. I have no doubt that Tyndale was a great man, and that there is no reason to AUTOMATICALLY assume that the King James version is the most authoritative and accurate translation of the original scriptures.

Mary Grabar
Thanks, Mary. Thanks.

Don, I'm still lost.
It looked like you were refering to another's post. I didn't ask anything.

Regarding the internet, however, there IS a lot of good material. You can find many translations compared, the original Hebrew and Greek (all compilations), interlinears, and enough exegetical works so that you can compare and decide for yourself. None of this is a substitute for a good Bible-based church, minister, and congregation that studies weekly in small groups. But, I already said that.

It's amazing...
but should not be surprising that MOST jounalist have very little to NO Christian background/teaching, and no contact with people with different perspectives from their own. The have NO respect for Christian beliefs and are HOSTILE to them.

We Christians are "bizarre" to the majority of those in print and television journalism.

The way they are treating Sarah Palin speaks volumes about her AUTHENTICITY! The man that "adopted" Christianity to gain "credibility in the Black community"(NYT) has not been ridiculed for HIS christian faith by the vast majority of the media. His dear "uncle" Rev. Wright was DEFENDED by the MSM.

A CNN repoter (white, female, young)actually told the views that she had been to "Black" churches and that's just the way it was there...it's normal, it's not anything unusual, that kind of rhetoric was "cultural". Everything in her manner said "(oh, this is a problem- gotta try to help) please, don't hold this against Obama...don't ya think he's just grand?"

Seadog,
Love that line about Pilate voting "present".

A leader needs to lead, which entails making actual decisions.

One thing that voters can know for sure about born-again Christians is that they are capable of actually making a decision about a matter of importance instead of remaining in a perpetual waffle between yes and no.

The Path
The path is about zelem Elokim, weakly and often erroneously translated the Image of God.

It is more like image in relation to a mirror. The more you reflect yourself, the more God is deflectled. The more you learn to eliminate self, the more God is reflected.

Most of the reason people are depressed is because they don't live up to their image of themselves. It was designed this way. We were not meant to be gods.

My sofa, which I really like broke a few weeks ago after my worrying for six months that it was going.

I spent the whole night thinking how to fix it (I am no carpenter). God was waiting for me to get out of the way and after a sleepless night Out of the blue I got the thought to take it to the local sawmill. About 2000 feet from my home.
This after six months of worrying. God was waiting for bitochon, trust.

The man, a good man my family has known almost all my life said. I'll fix it for you.

The bill $35.00, I gave him fifty (Joe Biden I make a tenth of what you make and I give well over a thousand a year).

Don't tell me God doesn't exist.

Only a non-Christian or one totally ignorant of Christianity could say that and believe it.

Just what the libs want. Some inter-denominational name calling. Here's the bottom line. The following analysis was posted on BeliefNet: It Wasn't Just (Or Even Mostly) the 'Religious Right'

Bush's strong performance among Catholics, it turns out, was crucial to his victory. Bush won Catholics 52%-47% this time, while Al Gore carried them 50%-46% in 2000. If Kerry had done as well as Gore, he would have had about a million more votes nationwide. According to Gallup Polls, only one Democrat since 1952 (Walter Mondale in 1984) lost the Catholic vote by this large a margin.

The Catholic impact was starker in key states. In Ohio, Bush got 55% of the Catholic vote in 2004 compared to just under 50% of them in 2000. That means a shift of 172,000 votes into the Republican column. Bush won the state by just 136,000 votes this year.

In Florida, Catholics made up 26% of the electorate in 2000. This year, they made up 28%. In 2000, 54% of Catholics went for Bush; in 2004, 57% of them voted for him. The combination of those two factors meant a gain of 400,000 voters in the Sunshine State-about Bush's margin of victory.

In 2004 the top of the ticket was a Catholic. In 2008 the bottom of the ticket is. This is why the choice of Biden is perplexing. Consider also the majority of Catholics voted for Hillary in the recent primaries. If BO wanted a majority of the Catholic vote maybe he should have considered running as VP with Sen. Sam Brownback at the head of the ticket.

God
Bravo, Mary.
Nothing like the simple truth, to get the point across. I am praying for John McCain. He is someone I trust will put America and her citizens above his own personal wants and needs. Sarah Palin was a brilliant pick and she is obviously the right person at the right time. God says that the wicked lay traps for the righteous, but that He causes them (the wicked) to fall into their own traps. I love it when the liberals get back what they've have dished out. It just goes to show that God is always watching out for His own. Keep doing what God calls you to do. Thanks for your article.

Writing is a gift
Sadly, far too many on the left who possess this gifted talent believe it affords them the right to ridicule, impugn, subordinate and judge. It does not and it is time we make sure that they understand that.

The Unfit for Command book was never successfully refuted. The million dollars promised by T.Boone was refused payment because the person tried to use a TV program to prove errors, not the book. I read the book only a couple of years ago and it closely followed what I had heard in years previous.

Ask a few sailors who were there or in the area when it happened if the claims of the Swiftboat sailors were true. There were wirenotes, back-channel messages and simply unauthorized blurbs on teletype circuits complaining about LT Kerry's actions radiating throughout he Seventh Fleet when The Word of what he did became known. I was there, in charge of communications in a gun line destroyer, and I seem a grunch of 'em. In 1980 I met a highly decorated senior officer aboard an aircraft carrie. This officer was once a swiftboat sailor and was in the widely published swftboat picture with Kerry. A group of us were telling "war stories" late one night when a member of the group mentioned Kerry. The officer lit off like a 1200 pound boiler exploding and spent the next hour or more talking about Kerry and all that he had pulled to enhance himself. Yes, Kerry did earn one Purple Heart medal, but the rest was pure Bravo Sierra and sailors throughout the fleet were quite unhappy about it because such actions degrade valid medals and awards earned. You might ask why the Navy did not investigate the situation when it became known. I've wondered that too. Maybe because it would have greatly damaged the reputation of the entire awards process.

A congressman from TN said: "Jesus was a community organizer; Pontius Pilate was a governor." Really? Well, Pontius Pilate voted, "Present."

The Principal
The hypocrisy you draw attention to from the MSM about calling Sarah's religious beliefs 'controversial' ... in comparison to the 'kid glove' handling of 'Black Liberation Theology' and it's influence on Barak Obama for 20 years ... would be laughable ... if it weren't so frightening!

The MSM of today has become nothing more than a propaganda machine for leftist ideology and those that adhere to it!

My View on Religion

I was raised a Humanist/Atheist until age 32.

God touched me physically, mentally and spiritually.

I decided to follow God and begin learning all I could about the 8 major religions.

I decided that either all religions are wrong - because of conflicting definitions of God - or only one could be right.

I determined that 'Religion' is mans way to God.

I determined that Jesus is God's way to man.

Not having ANY religious background enabled me to make my own choice - I chose Jesus and I was Born Again into the Kingdom of God.

I especially like Kelly's response....
...#36. I'm also among those heretics disloyal to the liberal sickness of comedy/junk science along with their politics of fear.

The left worships at the altar of the self, and then they demand the government save them when their indulgences and lack of impulse control gives them addictions, incurable diseases, and often, financial ruin.

I also can't run for any office because I believe abortion is mortally wrong, and barbaric in fact. Homosexuality is an aberrant lifestyle, and as mentioned in paragraph 1, global warming is but another leftist fantasy invented to help our socialists in their quest for power and fame, and to dismantle our freedoms. I believe that failure is also part of personal progress so government should stay out of those learning experiences.

The big one for me; there is right and wrong in life, black and white, and few, if any, gray areas.

My personally governing verse in the Bible is that which says: "Live a blameless life".

Kenneth
Isn't it curious how the media describe Sarah Palin's church-inspired world view as"controversial" but don't apply the same judgment to Obama's?

Your Reply #94 was simply outstanding!

Well done! Jesus was NOT a community organizer! ... and those on the left who have tried to portray Obama's community organizing activities in Chicago ... as following the works and purpose of the life of Jesus on this earth ... are either deceived .... or simply liars ... or maybe just following the 'example' of the 'very first radical' ... who Saul Alinsky dedicates his book, 'Rules for Radicals' to ... that being "-- Lucifer"!

Dr Grabar thanks!

Dr Grabar thanks for taking a stand!

I was raised (3rd generation) a Humanist/Atheist.

Taking a stand was tough in my own family, who thought I had lost my mind when I became a Christian at age 32.

One question that dogged me while I was an Atheist:

What, where, when and how did Energy come into being?

What, where, when and how did Space come into being?

What, where, when and how did Motion come into being?

What, where, when and how did Time come into being?

What, where, when and how did the materials come into being used by the 'Big Bang'?

Snake Handling and Drinking Strychnine is really rare in churches.

You speak truthful in what you say. But those that do so do it in ignorance for they know not the word of God. For it is written not to put the Lord your God to the test. Tempt not the Lord your God. And in doing these things they put the Lord God to the test.
However, you have no understanding of truth because to do so would place condemnation i your very heart and soul that you might sek after that which you seem unacceptable as something real.
You must conclude that you can believe in only what you see. But the things you see you give glory to soemthing other than God, who created the things you see. You cannot see the wind, but you believe that it exists because you feel the effects of its power. Yet the signs you take for granted you give not the Creator the glory, but some mythological event all too many endorse as evolution.
You believe that dinosaurs could never have coexisted with humankind because you are told that by seemingly knowledgable men. Feeling comfortable that their methods of making such assertions are infallible and therefore accurate.
You are unfamiliar with the knowledge of creation which took 6 days. In that time God, man and dinosaur were created on the same day. But since the word dinosaur does not appear in the Bible, you reject that that was so. You will not find the word in the Bible because the word was not coined until the 1800s. But there are two creatures mentioned in the Bible that are clearing what you and so many call dinosaurs. The names God uses is Behemoth and Leviathan.
But God can forgive your ignorance when you decide to seek after him and his mercy. And who knows what change might be brought about in your life.

CA Mary
Christian love extends to all of God's children, it is true. My point, that you obviously missed as evidenced by your reply, is that Christians must live by the rules set forth by God and Jesus in order to appropriately claim the title. Your "young Christians" who vote Democrat (ignoring the abortion and gay marriage planks in that party's platform) betray those rules and thus betray their mission as Christians. If we do not LIVE our faith, if all we do is follow the rituals and claim the title, we are not true Christians. No Christian, Catholic or otherwise, can support a party that seeks to enable, or should I rather say encourage, abortion and gay marriage as these two acts are abominable to Christ. Those who do are, frankly, lying about their allegiance to Christ's teachings...seeking the panache of the title "Christian" but failing to obey the rules. Living one's Christian faith means, in part, voting against any and all Democrats even if they, like Sen. Casey of PA and Sen. Kerry of MA, claim to oppose abortion "personally", but go to Washington and refuse to ACT against it. A moral stance against abortion and gay marriage cannot end at the voting booth or it isn't a moral stance at all.
CA Mary, if you aren't going to LIVE Christianity you're going to pay dearly when you face your Maker for falsely "joining the club."

Media Spins on God
The media has many spins on God, but they have forgotten that it is God who spins the world and He not only gave his spin from the beginning of creation when He wrote the only book that invites people to choose which way they want to spin the truth about God. God's non-fiction book and the world's best seller since the beginning of time continues to be a #1 best seller, even though many tried and try today to destroy it, but the truth can't be destroyed. They don't realize that God allows people to choose their own personal spins until He decides that His spin will be the only spin allowed in the end. One day, the world's spin will come to a squeeching halt and that may not be too far off. People who mocked God will have to face the truth and the rude awakening that will spin them upwards or downwards without a choice! I don't have to tell you that if he spins you downward that it won't be a good place to end up, so be careful when you are spinning your opinions about God because He is watching and listening to each person who believes or doesn't believe and has the power to convince the masses of the truth or lies.

ruth ...
You are SO RIGHT! The Bible itself warns us that in the latter days ... people will exchange/prefer a lie for the truth ....and to beware of 'false prophets'!

It is also my belief that Obama and his mentor Jerimiah Wright ... as well as many other associates and friends of Obama are indeed false prophets!

When will someone ask Obama exactly when his friends and those that can give testimony to his life come forward ... so we can get a good look at them? Will it be 'after' Obama is elected ... heaven forbid? Why is Obama hiding them? Why haven't we heard any of them come forward on Obama's behalf? Why has the MSM helped Obama hide these friends, mentors, and close associates?

You people that have 'swallowed' the 'message' of your pied piper Obama need to open your eyes and become aware of who this charlatan 'really is'!

I'm sure there are those that either don't care about these facts ... or are 'fellow radical travelers' ... but to those that have been bamboozled by 'the One' ... please do some research and lean who this deceptive man truly is!

Right On
Mary...what an inspirational column. I agree with every word; I do believe that
God is looking at this election long and hard (only he knows the winner) and I know he won't let all of us Christians down! God bless you.

To Michael in MA
Thanks for your Reply #24 and your link to Saul Alinsky in Wikapedia!

I emailed the information to my Christian friends and encourage every other Christian to do the same.

We need to be aware of the dangerous and 'Evil' (yes...that's right ...I said EVIL) influences that have fostered the political and religious beliefs of both Hilary (who wrote her honors thesis praising Alinsky) and ...more importantly, Obama!

We need to be aware who has influenced the thinking and beliefs of those who seek to 'lead' our nation.

Here's a quote from Wikapedia from Alinsky's dedication in his book 'Rules for Radicals':

Alinsky writes: "Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins -- or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom -- Lucifer."

That's right ...he unabashedly gives praise and pays homage to the Devil!

Mary ...thanks again ...
...for your strong and unabashed support for Christianity and God's word! May God richly bless you and continue to speak the truth through your columns!

Which voice do YOU hear???
As I see it God talks to anyone who will listen...Some people either have their ears sealed shut or they are listening to another source...
So for all those out there that have rejected Jesus and the Bible, God in his wisdom has sent you a counterfeit, in fact several counterfeits.. For instance, The Barack the false messiah, the Koran the false gospel, new age, the social gospel, the liberation gospel, etc. ..It is really sad for those who do not believe the Bible and do hear God's voice.

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires." (2 Timothy 4:3, NAB)

This my friends is happening now and has been so since at least about the mid 1800s. But began with the conquering of the western part of the Roman Empire by Constantine. With this, Constantine brought the pagans and the church of that time together. Constantine setting himself above that church as the first Pontifus Maximus, or Supreme Bishop.
We are too comfortable in the teachings within our churches. Thus believing we have truth as the foundation, we have relied on those leaders of the church to make the dictates of the gospel all the while being led away from the truth rather than to it.
We have accepted the ideology of evolution as factual and have perverted the creation by placing the two together thus formalizing the beginning of creation into something that non believers might ne added to the church.
In doing so the truth as given by God the Creator is perverted and instead of gaining salvation through truth, salvation too has become perversive. This my friends is in all of the churches, not a few.

Your ignorance of the early Church is astounding. Start with John 6, then read the Didache and Justin Martyr and the early Church Fathers.

BTW, The orthodox, Catholics, Lutherans and Anglicans also believe in the true prescence.

"If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat."

"If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."

Kick all the able-bodied people off welfare and make them work to support themselves. Force all single mothers to identify the father of each child and force all men to provide for their own children.

Private charity will easily cover the cases of legitimate need -- that is, the cases where people are unable to support themselves due to disability, illness, or the temporary reversals of fortune.

About the King James
More people have been given access to this Bible than any other in the world.

Mark 13:10 -
And the gospel must first be published among all nations.

Good enough for me

Your reply has nothing to do with Christian love does it? My statement was to help those less fortunate, that's all. Instead you jump on the gay, abortion platform, and as I said, that's not all there is to "liberal" beliefs; nor did I say all liberals believe that homosexual relationships and abortions are okay with God.

religious test
Truth be told, religious tests are verboten for public office.

But, if we're going to subject Gov Palin to a religious test, let's apply the same standard to Sen Obama and ask why he was a devoted follower of one of the nation's chief proponents of black liberation theology, a theology that requires a belief that God hates "whitey."

Amen...

Governor Palin is a brave soul...
a real lady, who I thank for her willingness to subject herself to such venom, hatred and meanness.

She is exactly the kind of person that is needed in Washington. One that has no ties and owes no favors to the power brokers in the beltway.

She prays that America remain on God's side because she understands and knows that to do otherwise is a sure road to our downfall.

God does work in mysterious ways and I think that the new Goliath has been hit with the lethal stone of truth, slung by the new David, a person after God's own heart!

McCain/Palin = Victory '08!

Was Jesus A Community Organizer?

No.

Jesus is God of the Universe and Lord of all Creation.

When Jesus came to earth in human form to offer us the good news of salvation, there were many people who wished that he was a community organizer.

These Zealots were hoping for a man that would lead them to rise up against the Roman Empire, in the same way that the Marxists want the church to rise up against the power of the United States, but Jesus made it clear to them that this is not why He came.

In my opinion, this is why the multitudes turned against Him, and it is also my theory about why the Lefties have such bitter hatred against Bible believing Christians. They don't rail against the fake Christians that try to substitute the teachings of Karl Marx for the Word of God, do they? They don't go insane over Leftie politicians who make a big deal about going to church and pay loud lip service to their faith, do they?

But let President Bush, for example, mention that he feels the prayers for Americans, and they go insane and call for his demise.

There is no greater evidence for evil in the heart of man than the vicious reaction of the radical Left against nice people who simply believe in the truths that God has given us in His Word.

Amazing
I never cease to be amazed when unlikely characters take on the name of the Lord: characters like politicians caught in adulterous relationships who suddenly require spiritual counseling and confession; characters like mass murderers who suddenly 'find the Lord' while awaiting sentencing or appeals; characters like liberals who eschew all things Christian until it is important to wag Bibles into churches for campaign purposes or to sit in church pews for political credibility. Wrapping oneself in religion for political expediency is much like wrapping oneself in the American flag for political expediency; it causes the mask to drop so that the ugliness beneath is revealed for all to see. Good article, Mary.

God talks to you
and He talks to me. I listen not enough. Well done Mary, well done.

Don't ask, Don't tell
Mary, I resonate with you, appreciate you and am delighted that we still can read such articles.

My fear for the near future is that the "don't ask, don't tell" will come to mean don't ask, don't tell that you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior.

Mary, CA Re: Christian Love
Mary,

Is it Christian Love when it is TAKEN? Or does Christian Love happen when it is GIVEN?

You've bought into the false premise that charity would not happen but for the government.
Charity was here long before that. Do you wait to help someone until you are told that you must help them? Or do you prefer that you not be bothered and by leaving it to the government you can say "there, I've done my part!"?

God would use the imperative form

She was making fun of people like you. It doesn't matter that you think it should be "go thou" you proved her point that what you are concerned about is ridiculing people that believe in God. Atheists have a double standard, they believe in all kinds of "science" fairy tales but when it comes to evidence for God, they won't even consider the evidence.

If God be for thee
If God be for thee, who can be against thee.

Mary if God wakes you up every morning and speaks to you to write, the who can say more?

If the MSM were awaken by God every morning, who could doubt their words?

It is quite evident that the MSM has not heard the voice of God by their very actions. Also many liberals have not heard the voice of God because of the venom they spew upon others.

The beginning of Wisdom is the fear of God and it is evident that the MSM does not fear God so where is their wisdom? Every time they write their biased fair and balanced reports it really shows.

Mary I prayest for thee. Keepest thy works righteous.

This liberal Keith Olbermann crap you post has no credibility.

FACT: This election is about one of the most, liberal left-wing candidates in the history of the Democratic Party to run for POTUS. From day one, Obama and his people have tried to cover-up this fact. So they went with a mindless "hope" and "change" bit that was bound to backfire. It did.

FACT: The "Empty Suit" charge against Obama started the day he took to the campaign trail. Well over a year later, nothing has changed to refute that charge. He is what he is!! A decent man who would be an excellent choice to head up the Office Of Race Relations For America. POTUS? Not even close.

FACT: He is what he is! A U.S. Senator who has been in the senate long enough for a cup of coffee. He is just NOT qualified to be president! Period.

GOEST THOU, MARY
If thou verily wast an English major, thou wouldst surely know that the proper imperative form is "go thou" rather than "goest thou." In fact, my grammar checker just zapped me when I wrote "goest" above.

Thanks Mary for a great article. Only prayer will heal America. Pray that eyes are opened, state by state, city by city, house by house.

Thanks Sherry and Harold for your witness.

Pray for America that Truth and Righteousness will prevail.

Mary, in re: #62
Jesus told us to care for the poor and needy. He did not tell Pilate and Herod to take money from their hardworking citizens to care for the lazy and indolent.

Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's -- taxes used for the legitimate functions of government (protection of citizens from criminals and foreign attackers, provision of major infrastructure, and the like).

Render unto God what is God's -- private charity to care for those in needs.

Confiscation of people's money for redistribution to others is Karl Marx's message, not Christ's message.

Don't forget
Truth is Truth. If I'm wrong, (I am not a Christian by the way), then I'll be worm food and gone. Seeing that I hold nothing physical dear, then I've lost nothing, but I've had a wonderful life loving God.

If an atheist is wrong, then in his lifetime he has never really enjoyed one moment of that life. Always wanting more more more.

I love and enjoy sounds and smells, the sunshine the clouds, the air that wafts beauty. If I die and I'm wrong, I have squeezed joy out of every second of my life.

I'm not wrong because I get signs all the time. Like cutting grass the other day. I have two gas tanks one my mower. I know that I will never run the tank dry, stall out and have to go through the hassle of priming the carburator. I just know that God will tell me when to check it.

The last time I cut, I checked it and the tank was dry as a bone. All I had what that gas in the line to the carb. I flipped the switch, and thanked God. BTW I listen to Torah on a MP3 while cutting.

This happens to me all the time. If I have alacrity when I'm urged to do something, then all goes smoothly. Last week I procrastinated and getting ready for Shabbat was a mess.

There are times when I feel the urge to pick something irrelevent up, and there are times I ignore and trip and fall on an inconsequential item.

No one is going to tell me that God is not real. I've tried it without Him and ended up in an abyss. Now I am gleeful almost all the time.

About jobs and God. I haul my mother around and change her disposable protection if you know what I mean. I have learned that it is not my mother that is the burden, it is my job and God says "You don't like the job I gave you?" Yes Sir.

This is my job and I will be judged by how well I do it and Aspaklaria, clear vision of the job at hand. So, Mary and your dream. What would happen if you were just to be mundane? No biggy.

I do not believe God has a political party. Neither party fully lives up to the Sermon on the Mount. An argument can be made that the right has championed materialism although I find it telling that in surveys conservatives and the religious right give more to charity than the left. It is a tortuous stretch to say drilling is an issue solely supported by the right when it has 70% support of the people. By the way, when did drilling become a sin?

The left with their unfettered support of abortion as well as pornography and pedophilia through their disciples the ACLU, will always have trouble attracting people of sincere religious belief.

The Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth have NOT "been debunked." Quite the contrary, Kerry, et al have never substantively proven that any of their accusations were false. Kerry also has not released his service records, something he could easily do and something that he promised to do...of course, Obama also promised to take public funding for his campaign didn't he? George Bush did NOT go AWOL and at least his records are quite complete...except, of course, for that phony paper Dan Blather chose to impale himself upon.
JMO51...I'd be willing to bet you still think Gore won in 2000 and that the Supreme Court handed W the election. Do you also think Nancy Pelosi is an infallible source of Catholic Church doctrine and Ted Kennedy really tried to save Mary Jo Kopechne?

JMO51
In your 9:49, you remind me of an axiom of debate I sometimes forget.

"When your opponent is making a fool of himself - don't interrupt."

Keep posting, JMO51.

Sorry I interrupted...

Dumb Response. The Swift Boaters have been debunked and it was GWB's military Records that conveniently disappeared.

CA Mary
"More and more young Christians are voting Democrat. There is more to the party than allowing abortion or gay marriage."
If what you say is true (and I'd like to see the proof of this allegation) then I submit that your "young Christians" aren't Christians at all, despite their claim to that title.
Being Christian isn't like joining the local Lions club or Kiwanis...where you pay your annual dues, attend the meetings, do some good works and that's about it. Being Christian is about BEING and LIVING in the image of Christ. It isn't a club...it's a life...and yes, it is replete with RULES.
Abortion is a SIN...homosexuality is a SIN. Someone please tell me that you sat down in conversation with Jesus and that He told you, "Don't worry about it...it's perfectly OK for a mother to demand the death of her unborn child...I don't mind." Perhaps you could also find out whether or not the marriage at Cana was between Baruch and Solomon. Didn't He tell us that in marriage (to paraphrase) "a man shall leave his mother and father and cling to his WIFE"...or did he say "significant other, male or female?"
If you claim to be Christian you must follow God's rules, not whatever you think is alright. If you don't, you aren't Christian. Being Christian is tough...God meant it that way just as He meant it when he laid down the rules for Israel and punished them when they strayed. REAL Christians, unlike CA Mary, see that the Democrat party is NOT reflective of God's rules (Biden, Pelosi, Kennedy, Kerry, Casey, et al, make a note).
Like Jefferson, "I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that His justice cannot sleep forever."

Revealing,
Your godly use of satire and sarcasm casts a revealing, holy light on the arrogance, condescension, and self-righteousness of the left-liberal media.

Strange how those who claim "tolerance" as the greatest virtue and "diversity" as their greatest goal simply cannot get it through their narrow, little minds that others' beliefs are genuinely different and that those others *actually form their actions in compliance to their beliefs.*

May God use your words to enlighten those who wander in the darkness caused not only by their refusal to flip the switch but by their determination to deny the existence of lamps.

But Palin did LIE anout the bridge to no where and She did LIE about the Chef. And GWB DID go AWOL from the Texas National Guard even though Rather's source turned out to be accurate.

T. Boone Pickens (Right wing George Soros) said he would pay one million dollars to anyone who could Debunk the Swift Boaters, but when they did he reneged.

How would we know about this if there was no media to keep watch on the lies?

Has John Kerry ever released his full military records as he "promised" to do?

No?

Thought not...

My Favorites
I myself have been a major sinner,,, but our Lords grace has overcome my problems.. We are all sinners as long as we are “in this skin”…

I personally live for Rev 21 3 – 7,, these are the words I love…
Rev 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.
Rev 21:4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."
Rev 21:5 Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful."
Rev 21:6 And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.
Rev 21:7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.

More of the Word
And more,,,

Luk 21:7 So they asked Him, saying, "Teacher, but when will these things be? And what sign will there be when these things are about to take place?"
Luk 21:8 And He said: "Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He,' and, 'The time has drawn near.' Therefore do not go after them.
Luk 21:9 But when you hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified; for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately."
Luk 21:10 Then He said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
Luk 21:11 And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.
Luk 21:12 But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name's sake.
Luk 21:13 But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony.
Luk 21:14 Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer;
Luk 21:15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.

Luk 21:29 Then He spoke to them a parable: "Look at the fig tree, and all the trees.
Luk 21:30 When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near.
Luk 21:31 So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near.
Luk 21:32 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place.
Luk 21:33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

New King James Version,,, Compare Mathew chapter 24 to Luke chapter 21,,,

The Word
Every morning I get up,,, spend time in prayer and in study,,, this morning was the book of Jonah,,, We had better be listening!!! if our ears are tuned to hear His voice,,, and we comply,,, we are honoring Him,,, He does see that…

2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
2Ti 3:17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

We also have to consider the times that we are in,,, Like John the Baptist,,, I want to cry out for all lost souls,, PREPARE YE THE WAY OF OUR LORD!!!

Listen,,,

Luk 12:54 Then He also said to the multitudes, "Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, 'A shower is coming'; and so it is.
Luk 12:55 And when you see the south wind blow, you say, 'There will be hot weather'; and there is.
Luk 12:56 Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?
Luk 12:57 "Yes, and why, even of yourselves, do you not judge what is right?

We better believe that our Lord does want us to know what times we are in

Law of Unintended Consequences
Liberals/leftists (like JMO51) should be lauded for their kind hearts and good intentions.

Unfortunately, in their "enthusiasm" to put their wishes into action, emotion trumps reason and they are inevitably left with poor records of tangible results because they are unfamiliar with the "Law of Unintended Consequences".

Thus, in their enthusiasm to elect Mr. Obama, they must attempt to politically and personally destroy Sarah Palin, as they rightly see her as a danger to Obama's "inevitability".

Unfortunately (for them), their tactics are following the familiar track record of producing the exact opposite of their intentions.

The more unreasonable focus they put on Palin, the greater is the backlash by ordinary Americans in flyover country, aka, the "Backbone of America".

Please keep it up, you people like JMO51 - you are doing the work for we Conservatives.

THERE ARE THOSE WHO PRAY
to the 'FATHER' of 'CHRIST' to write for all His children.
And then there are those who pray to Allah to write off all non muslims.

Almighty God
speaks as He will. I don't profess to know all His methods of doing so. For myself, I watch, I listen, I read, I study history - including the Bible - to see the patterns in human behavior. I try to do what I have been raised to do, and as my heart and mind call me to do, and hope that this is what God wants.

As for the attacks on Sarah Palin, what comes to mind immediately for me is:

"Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts..." (2 Peter 3:3, NAB)

and

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires." (2 Timothy 4:3, NAB)

and most of all

"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." (Matthew 5:11-12 NAB)

It is a sad day for our nation when a believing Christian is held up for humiliation and mockery and public opprobrium. Sad, because it was not always so. I have never understood it; Christ's message was one of forgiveness, compassion, and mercy. But one cannot ask for forgiveness, understand compassion, or appreciate mercy, if one insists that one has done nothing wrong.

Sarah Palin should not be afraid in the midst of those would would be gods in their own eyes. Neither should we.
