Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

The following are Fred Thompson's Prepared Remarks at the 2008 National Right to Life Conference on July 3, 2008.

First, I would like to thank you for your support in my recent political endeavor. In that business, many are called, but few are chosen. We took a strong stand for the principles we believe in, and together I believe we made a difference in the debate that will ultimately benefit our country.

The fact is – I have not changed my mind about any of what we discussed.  The issues. Our nation’s values. And most important, our principles. And as I watch the presidential campaign I am convinced more than ever of the importance of these principles and I bet you feel the same way.

There has been a lot of talk about the need for change in this country. That is Senator Obama’s mantra, of course. And all of the commentators say, “It is a change election.” Well, I can understand why the call for change is so powerful considering the pitiful condition that our country is in.

We simply have the most prosperous, freest and strongest country in the history of the world. So we can understand why liberal politicians and their supporters see the need for great change.

On a more serious note, we have long recognized the role change plays in lives. Edmund Burke wrote extensively about it in the 18th century.  He said that change was inevitable and when properly guided, change was a process of renewal. But it was his opinion that the man who loves change is disqualified from being a reformer because of his lust … to be the agent of change.

Remind you of anybody you know?

So it is not change that concerns us — it’s change in the wrong direction. And what we may be changing from.

This country was founded on certain eternal truths – the lessons of the Scriptures and the wisdom of the ages … the recognition that there is such a thing as human nature that must be taken into account when governing … a respect for tradition and – most fundamentally – the proposition that people are meant to be free.

From these principles a government was formed – a government with its powers separated, checked and balanced, because the Founders knew that power tended to corrupt human beings. In keeping with that, they incorporated into our Constitution a system of Federalism to ensure that there was not too much power concentrated in the central government –a central government that was given certain delineated powers and no others.

From the application of these principles we developed a market economy, the rule of law, a system of trade with other nations, and a strong national defense. From the prosperity, freedom, and strength that came from this system we became a friend and example to all those around the world who aspired to those same things. We won wars, including the Cold War.  We helped rebuild our enemies’ countries, which enhanced world stability, and which strengthened our own security along the way.

So with that in mind, I’d like to suggest a change for us: Instead of a constant search for the new, exciting and different, let’s re-assert the “First Principles” that made this country great.

Has freedom, liberty and the strength which guarantees them become outdated? And just what part of our Constitutional framework requires sprucing up or should be abandoned altogether?

Those changes that are momentarily popular in elite circles, which would expand our government, weaken our ability to defend ourselves, redefine marriage and life itself, sap our sense of personal responsibility and treat our people as if they were merely a collection of appetites to be fed in an election year … they must be rejected.

These are not changes we can believe in.  These are changes we should run away from.  Because the ideas behind these endeavors, which have long inspired left-wing politicians around the world, have led to consistently disastrous results.

Unfortunately the greatest agent of change this country has ever seen may be the Supreme Court of the United States –a fact that would astound the Founding Fathers who created it. Last month the Court for the first time in our nation’s history took from the elected branches of government the management of enemy combatants held abroad during times of war and gave these combatants the same habeas corpus rights we possess as American citizens.

Then the Court, in another 5-4 decision, overturned a death penalty conviction of a child rapist as a violation of his Eighth Amendment rights against cruel and unusual punishment. Part of the opinion of the majority was based upon what they perceived as, “the evolving standards of decency” in America.  The Court basically concluded we have reached the lofty moral level where a state will not be allowed to execute a child rapist no matter how young the child, no matter the brutality of the assault, or the frequency of the offender’s actions.

Logically, this can only mean that, when the Court decides that our moral standards have evolved even further, they will feel free to abolish the death penalty for all crimes. Then, presumably, we will have evolved to the level of decency of Europeans.

I am not sure what is more outrageous – holding that a state cannot impose the death penalty for such a heinous crime, the Court’s continued reshaping of the Constitution, or that we are governed by a Court’s perception of how far our standards of decency have evolved.  This is a Court which is apparently unaware that most Americans’ consideration would include the child … not just the rapist.

Clearly, this is a Court that is often engaged in what can only be called a “liberal legislative function.” And these are legislative activities and outcomes that would never pass in the normal legislative process where you and I have a say in the matter.

I don’t know how to put it any plainer: If Senator Obama is elected, he will, through Supreme Court and federal court nominations cause this trend to accelerate. And that will bring about harmful changes in this country that no one in this room will want to see and no one in this room will live long enough to see rectified.

During his brief time in the U.S. Senate, the Senator strongly opposed the nomination of Justice Roberts and Justice Alito.  And without a doubt – despite what he may say – he would continue to follow the agenda of those who have enabled his meteoric rise: MoveOn.org, the NEA, NARAL, and the remnants of the 1960s radical left that failed then, but sees the opportunity for one last gasp.

I highlight our courts because, second only to national security, the shaping of the federal judiciary is the most significant legacy that the next president is likely to leave—especially these days with such an evenly divided court.

The Court is important.  But I want to get back to where we started … our principles.  And there is no more important principle than the defense of liberty… and of life.  And here, too, Senator Obama has been an agent of change in the wrong direction.

For example, in 2002 a federal law, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act was signed by President Bush. This act protected babies that survived late-term abortions. Only 15 members of the US House opposed it, and it passed the US Senate unanimously. Even NARAL did not oppose it.

That same year as an Illinois legislator, Senator Obama voted against similar legislation that would have given these babies life-saving medical attention.

I trust that he is explaining how it is that he is to the left of NARAL on this issue during the “religious outreach” meetings he’s been holding of late.

The fact is that at a time when the Supreme Court is in the balance, and America is facing unprecedented national security threats … at a time when rogue nations have or are developing nuclear capabilities … at a time when Russia is increasingly belligerent and China is engaged in a rapid military build-up, the Democratic Party has nominated for president one of the most inexperienced and the most liberal members of the United States Senate. Think George McGovern … without the experience.

On the other hand, we have John McCain.  He is strongly supportive of sound constitutionalists on the bench. And he has been consistently pro-life throughout his career.  His life experience has prepared him to lead this country in the troubled times we live in today.  His life has been one of sacrifice, and he has exhibited the courage to place the interest of his country and his fellow citizens above his own during both times of war and peace.

Recently, Democratic minions, including former General Wesley Clark, have been sent out to denigrate the importance of Senator McCain’s honor and courage during times of war. Apparently Team Obama believes that just like timeless principles, character you can depend on is not a particularly important qualification to be President of the United States. They are dead wrong.

In light of our country’s history and what likely lies ahead, personal honor, courage and integrity are the most important qualifications for a President.  I am disappointed that Wes Clark chose to allow himself to be used this way. He really shouldn’t have. It too easily invokes the image of a bantam rooster trying to belittle an American eagle.

Even more important to our future than how we view the candidates is how we view ourselves. Do we see our nation as one in decline, populated by helpless victims for whom every misfortune and every economic downturn is a conspiracy against them?

Or do we still see that we are a people of free will, willing to accept our responsibilities?

Are we a people who – as generations of American before us did – believe that our best days are ahead of us?

Will we realize and appreciate what we have and what we have achieved?

Will we remember who we are, what we stand for, and what we represent to the world?  That we are free people …  who respect life … who love liberty.

I believe we will.  And for those who have lost sight, there are the the principles we believe in to guide them.

We’ve had them for a long time. And these principles do not change.  And will not change.

Thank you.

It's choose, not chose. Sorry

No Chance To Vote
I am from New Mexico, and our republican primary was not held until June, so I did not get the chance to vote for my preferred candidate. By the time I would have gotten to vote, John McCain was already chosen for me. If McCain wants a true patriot, America loving running mate, he will chose Fred Thompson. I would have.

Dems have gone off the deep end.
The only people who should be ashamed if Obama wins are the suckers that vote for him. Vote against Obama by voting for McCain.

Obama's goals
I find it interesting that Obama finds our flag offensive. Therefore, he will not wear the pin. This tells me a lot about how he wants to change our country. It is also interesting that he thinks our Star Spangled Banner song is too much about war. I thought the only reason anyone wanted to change it, was because it is difficult to sing. He has also stated that we are no longer a Christian nation.
How can anyone vote for this man? He wants to downsize our defenses, take away our right to own guns, and make deals with our terrorists enemies. Logically that tells me he is determined to change our wonderful country into a weakened state to be taken over by his friends. Who are his real friends? They are in Africa and Terrorist Countries. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out. Shame on us if he is elected.

TNconservative
TN, was simply referring to the tone of his speech. Though he succinctly and humorously pointed out Obamessiah's inconsistencies and attempt to tack right.

Appreciate you pointing out Fred's foibles. You would know him better than I. Like a star-struck Obama-ite, I was caught up in his delivery. The similarities between BHO and our Governor are scary. Gov. Deval (a.k.a. Man of the Little People) just spent over $300,000 taxpayer money on a junket to China. I am not above our leaders drumming up industry and trade with a burgeoning power, but spending over $100,000 on airline tickets? Did they resurrect the Spruce Goose for the flight or something. Priceless.

Chris
Sorry but most of the prolife movement disagreed with the NRL endorsement of Thompson.

Thompson was against a right to life amendment and against a marriage amendment.

In the statement of the NRL they clearly said that they endorsed Fred because they believed he could win. In other words they didn't think any of the more prolife "second tier" candidates could win. So they were settling for Fred.

Look at where I am from. Fred didn't do good with us and there is a reason. Yes lobbiest is true, but Fred also fought against conservatives on McCain/Feingold too. Fred also tried to keep Clinton from getting impeached. The list goes on.

Look, we took a look at the guy, and we decided that we didn't want this moderate. Fred is part of the problem not part of the solution.

MRC
Above, you talked about Black Abortions.
I quote you:

" besides that it is believed (erroneously) by conservatives that a huge majority of abortion =s are performed opon black fetuses. this isnt too bad a result."

Yes I did flag that as offensive!

On several occasions you have used the infamous "N" word in some version or other, as if someone else had said that.

I personally find ANY and ALL racist remarks very disgusting!

Most posters here feel the same way. If you continue to do so, I PERSONALLY WILL FLAG THAT POST AS OFFENSIVE.

I suggest you quit that VERY OFFENSIVE habit!

People are good or bad or somwhere in between.

Their skin tone IS NOT PART OF THE EQUATION!

I am personally offended when you use that word or simulcra thereof.

Do you understand?

I hope so.

baseballoc
ihave a solution that would satisfy both of us. stop reading them before you have a kiniption fit. see how simple things can be,

Sen., in every poll before the FL
Primary I voted for you and we sent money to the NRC.

The day before our Primary you withdrew so I voted for Mitt.

The day after the primary he withdrew.

I guess I jinxed bopth of you.

I will vote for McCain

Wishing the best of everything to you amd yours.

FRED'S SPEECH TO NATIONAL RIGHT TO LIFE
As usual, Fred's words are uplifting and encouraging. This man is truly one of the chosen few in our nation with the "wisdom"
of Solomon! I only hope that he can be fully
utilized for many years to come. What a
wise and wonderful (not to mention the most knowledgable we would ever have) and fair Supreme Court Judge he would make for our country. I hope and pray for his continued
imput...there are a lot of us listening to
him...don't ever forget that Fred!

MRC

MRC, you little dickens, you are almost out of your cocoon of illiteracy, and are now spreading your wings as 'The Monarch Moron'.

You can do it! Yes! Just let yourself go, and beat out 'wobbie', for the championship title of most ignorant poster.

Miss'ya, Fred...
I still have your bumper sticker on my car. I can't bring myself to remove it.

I see you as the informal leader of the conservative movement and quite possibly the whole GOP.

Please stay in the public eye as much as you can and keep showering us with your wisdom.

MRCMRC
"where would you be if your mother had had an abortion????"

I'd be dead. That's why I'm pro-life.

Earlier you seemed to be arguing in defense of legalized abortion. Are you now arguing against it? Talk about flip-flopping! Are you schizophrenic or something?

ken
where would you be if your mother had had an abortion????

Thompson
Where the hell was Thompson when we needed him in the primaries?

Sorry Fred
While the beginning of your article was refreshing, you had to spoil the cake with the stench of parroting for McCain.

I think our founders would frown on the populist, big government, to downright socialist positions of McCain.

Go ahead and vote for McCain for backstabber in chief if you wish, with the audacity of hope he will change. I will vote for Baldwin.

Our founders gambled on a long shot for liberty on this day, and so will I in November.

MRCMRC: Yes, abortion again!
I've got news for you: abortion will never be dead as an issue as long as there are people around - such as myself - to keep the issue alive. You lefties will probably try to pass laws to censor us, but you'll have to do more than that to silence us.

No Conservative Justices
Regardless of which candidate wins the White House we will not get additional "conservative" ie "Constitutionist" justices.

If we leave Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in place with more votes than they have today, there is no way that such a justice would gain "consent". Ain't gonna happen. They will be "Borked". Tragic but true.

In the same breath I have to say that anyone who believes that by saying we will now drill for oil now, that this will happen is "smoking some good stuff"

Our attornies and liberal courts will tie up any drilling attempt in the myriad of "environmental and NIMBY" (Not in my back yard for those from Rio Linda)laws and attitudes for years.

This also true of Power Nukes, Coal, Shale or any other attempt at using traditional energy sources. We have created a "monster". The legal cleanup neede is monumental.

SORRY FRED

.....This being the 4TH I am reminded of the sacrifice made by the signators of the Declaration of Independence ...they pledged Their "lives, fortunes and sacred honor" ...every single man knew when he signed that document that he could be signing his death warrant ...

..... Conservatives needed you in this election Fred ...where were you? ....how much did you sacrifice for the good of your country? ...not much that I can see ...you dithered away your chances by being coy when you could have announced and began raising funds on-line ...you gave your opponents a ten yard head start in a 100 yard dash ...I don't think you wanted it badly enough and many supporters like myself feel betrayed .....COLOSSUS

LIFE AT CONCEPTION

.....Those who believe that abortion is infanticide and State sanctioned genocide, there is a way to overturn Roe vs Wade through legislation ...

.....With Congressman Duncan Hunter's (R-CA) Life at Conception Act (H.R.618) reaching a new record of 107 co-sponsors the National Pro-Life Alliance (NPLA) will be shifting emphasis to build support for the Senate version of the Bill introduced by Senator Wicker (R-MS) ..

.....If this Bill became law then it would overturn Roe because a fetus would have Constitutional protection at conception and most scientists agree that life begins at conception ...

.....This law, if enacted, would end abortion on demand and shut down the gruesome abortion mill industry ... for more info go to http://www.prolifealliance.com .....COLOSSUS

Reputable
doctor doing abortions, there ain't no such animal. No reputable doctor would dirty his
hands on it. Follow the money, these doctors aren't doing it for altruistic reasons. A friend of mine, had an abortion some 30 years ago. she changed her mind on the table, boyfriend (who had coerced her in to it) was called in and held her down during the torture of her unborn infant. She didn't recover well, returned to the abortuary and the disreputable
so called dr. told her she had a cancer that
occurs as a result of abortions. She asked him
why didn't they tell the women about this cancer, he'd told her, her tumor was the size of a grapefruit. He told her, "no one would come throught those (the clinic) doors." When she left, she tried to tell the waiting women and was escorted out the door. That cancer
turned out to be a surviving twin (someone Obama would gladly kill), with hearing loss due to the noise of the suction machine. So much for reputable abortionists. I've met many women victims of reputable doctors and they are wounded birds, having bought the lie, or coerced by boyfriend, or parents or teacher. The are members of Women Exploited by Abortion, people we won't and don't hear much about because if the demonRATS running our government did that, they'd lose their kickbacks from the abortion and Planned Parenthood lobbies.

Why aren't we hearing more of this?
For me, this speech channeled Ronnie in succinctly pointing out Candidate Hopenchange's inexplicable "pivoting/refining" (their words)on certain mainstream issues. I contend that if McCain were able to deliver anything even remotely approcahing this level, this election would not be close.

The so-called progressive desire to assuage their racial guilt seems to blind them to even the most infantile and cynical inconsistencies in Obama's platform. This guy is a lighweight and not fit for POTUS, but that must be the racist in me talking.

I love that most objections (as usual) to this speech (and every one like it) is usually based in ad-hominem racial/ageist/lack-of-intelligence attacks, rather than an actual refutation based on issues.

Look to us in MA if you want to see what a Hope & Change candidate does when in office and has to confront actual issues. Still waiting for my property-tax relief you promised, Governor Coupe Deval.

Robin
>It's a good thing your mother didn't choose abortion, don't you think? <

What about Hitler’s mother?

>And isn't it wonderful to live in a country where you can publicly call for death to those who are less than perfect. <

Did you mean to sound ironic or sick?

Stuart

The Decency of Europeans
>Logically, this can only mean that, when the Court decides that our moral standards have evolved even further, they will feel free to abolish the death penalty for all crimes. Then, presumably, we will have evolved to the level of decency of Europeans. <

Yes I believe that is true. Only backward theocracies need to take revenge on behalf of the people by slaughtering criminals. Is brutality the enlightened response to brutality?

Stuart

Are you kidding me...
TNConservative...get your facts straight. Fred had the endorsement of the National Right to Life...you think they chose him over, what I can only assume was your boy Huckabee, because he was weak on this issue? He was realistic and honest about the chance for the Prolife amendment to pass...nil...2/3's of the states are going to do this from where we're at now? His goal was to take us out of our own endzone to the 50 yardline by appointing judges who would likely overturn Roe v Wade. Then it becomes a state's right issue where immediately you have states that will be much stricter on abortion. Then someone sues and gets an actual law challenged before the SCOTUS and then all of a sudden you have a conservative court rule on the side of LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. See a strategy there rather there rather than an unrealistic promise from someone like Schmuckabee who only wanted to get elected cause he liked the title.

No doubt you'll say the tired media line that Fred used to lobby for prochoice groups...yea, a whopping 14 hours billed where he advised another partner in his firm. No, the RINO's are why we didn't get Fred, cuz they don't even recognize conservatism any more. Check out his record and his score card on consistency...there wansn't another candidate who could hold a candle to Fred Dalton Thompson...America is stupid for not choosing him.

Fred is an Icon of the end of the GOP.
Fred Thompson has the nerve to go to this national right to life thing as though he speaks for prolife people.

The prolife people rejected Fred because he rejected them on a right to life amendment which Fred was flamingly against.

Social conservatives gave him a try, he told them he wasn't going to dance to their tune. So his attempt to win the nomination became weak and pitiful.

Remember Nixon said Fred was dumb, and I think Fred proved old Nixon right this year.

A lot of you seemed suprised that Fred wants you to vote for McCain. I'm not suprised at all.

obama daughters
an aide to candidate obama reveled to me that the candidate is praying for one or perhaps both of his daughter to hurry up and have their first affair and thir first pregmancy and their first abortion. . he is mosty anxious to demonstrate his strong positiv attitude toward abortion, and feels that using his daughters as examples would be the best that he could do to show just how contmtuous he is of human life that is not human life. most of all he feels that he is at a decided disadvantage compored to mccain . mccain does not favor iliing babies except ehrn it suits his purposes when they are conceived under cetain circumstances and when the are very very samall, small doesnt count at least not as much as big he is reported to have said. where he favors the uses of government funds for stem cell researsrch. obama feels further and further behind in the race to show just who favors his brand of killing more. . it may be a tie

Fred your getting better on this!!!!!!!!
Fred Thonpson made a Great Speech today before the National Right to Life Org. While delivering another stealar ortation about America, her founding fathers and their vissions on how we should run the Government `of the People, bt the People and for the People.'
He once again ommitted that those we challenge to be treated fairly are also, `of The People'.
Homosexuals are citizens of the United States no matter how much we want it otherwises. Those that choose to abort life are also members of our society. Name calling and physical attacks are not about to change a thing.
If Right to life wants to embrace the words of our God, then do as he commants and pray for them, give them guidence, love compassion and hope.
Do not turn your back on them and shun them. it is the wise thing to do.
I cannot say I fully agree that abortion leads to wars between nations? I do believe that Idealogy does and has, In Nazi Germany you had three views of abortion, 1. if it was between an Ayrian woman and a non Ayrian man. it was okay. 2. If it was between a Jew and a Jew it was okay. 3. If it was between two germans with genetic disablities it was okay.
There was no fourth since it was every German womens duty to have children.
Same in Russia, Africa and the Middle East, but not in those exact terms, but similar.
Abortion needs to be changed to be acceptable to all, not free will because some woman or couple do not want children and refuse being fixed.
Asside from that Fred you did good. Oh yeah, Marriage was first a union of man and a woman, then it was expanded to many wives. It is in the Bible folks, have many wives as yee can support and have many children. It was the Romans and their monogamous marriages that brought the mistress and hookers into it full time.

Thank you, Fred
(continued)
Mother Teresa delivered her address without rhetorical flourishes. She never raised her voice or pounded the lectern. Her power was in her words and the selfless life she has led. Even President Clinton, in his remarks that followed, acknowledged she was beyond criticism because of the life she has lived in service to others.

At the end, she pleaded for pregnant women who don't want their children to give them to her: 'I am willing to accept any child who would be aborted and to give that child to a married couple who will love the child and be loved by the child.' She said she has placed over 3,000 children in adoptive homes from her Calcutta headquarters alone. She has answered the question, 'Who will care for all of these babies if abortion is again outlawed?' Now the question is whether a woman contemplating abortion wishes to be selfish or selfless, to take life or to give life.” Mother Teresa

Fred, thank you for lending your voice to the National Right to Life Conference. Thank you for speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves. God bless you.

Thank you, Fred
(continued)

'Many people are very, very concerned with children in India, with the children of Africa where quite a few die of hunger, and so on. Many people are also concerned about all the violence in this great country of the United States. 'These concerns are very good. But often these same people are not concerned with the millions who are being killed by the deliberate decision of their own mothers. And this is what is the greatest destroyer of peace today - abortion, which brings people to such blindness.'

What? Abortion destroys peace and causes blindness toward the sick, the hungry and the naked? Abortion leads to wars between nations? Of course it does, if life is regarded so lightly and its disposal becomes so trivial, so clinical and so easy. Why should people or nations regard human life as noble or dignified if abortion flourishes? Why agonize about indiscriminate death in Bosnia when babies are being killed far more efficiently and out of the sight of television cameras?
(continued)

Thank you, Fred
At a Nat'l Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C. with Pres. Bill and Hillary, VP Al and Tipper as well as several congressional leaders attending, Mother Teresa once said:

She said that America, once known for generosity to the world, has become selfish. And she said that the greatest proof of that selfishness is abortion. Tying abortion to growing violence and murder in the streets, she said, 'If we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill each other? . . . Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want.'

At that line, most of those in attendance erupted in a standing ovation, something that rarely occurs at these sedate events. At that moment, President Clinton quickly reached for his water glass, and Mrs. Clinton and Vice President and Mrs. Gore stared without expression at Mother Teresa. They did not applaud. It was clearly an uncomfortable moment on the dais.

She then delivered the knockout punch:

Excellent speech, Fred!
Keep it up! Your speeches are a treasure trove of inspiration.

Pasada Fool,
You are one articulte dude. Keep it up and you'll win 'fool' of the day.

Yeah, yeah, yeah
Blah, blah, blah, conservative, blah, blah, guns, blah, blah, patriotism, blah, blah, blah, God, blah, blah, blah...vote McCain.

Go away Fred. Take Newt with you too. You old guys had your chance and blew it.

Marvelous speech.
I hope the American citizens now enamored of Senator Obama think before they vote. Learning about Obama over the past year+ and seeing him amass his following has been gutwrenching.

I've struggled to cope with the notion he might be elected. I've tried to find his redeeming qualities. Whatever they are, he's obscured them.

Obama scares me and this speech just reinforces it.

Remember McCain's buddy Fred Thompson?

I do recall that Fred and Rudy took dives for John McCain during the primaries. Both blocked Mitt Romney's chance of nomination.

The Huckster, in a very un-Christian-like manner, took it upon himself to continue a failed campaign to the end. And in the end, he handed defeat to that darn Mormon fellow, who just wasn't good enough for social-conservatives. And in Romney's defeat, McCain won the nomination of the Republican Party.

We cannot blame Liberals for McCain's win. There were plenty of Conservatives willing to put Romney on the ballot. But a few powerful and well placed Conservatives decided that a Mormon was worse than a McCain.

Which lends me to wonder why social-Conservatives are so upset. It seems their leadership helped choose McCain in the first place.

Amazing as Usual
Fred was amazing as usual. I am still devastated that Fred did not win the nomination. If Huckleberry had not been in the primary, Fred most likely would have won.

I am so glad that Fred is speaking and writing again because this country needs to hear him. He knows the Constitution backwards and forwards.

You Rung my Liberty Bell Fred
With this beautifully written truth.
Please please please
Keep writing and speaking of these things.

Thompson's Presidential Candidacy
I was one who was excited when Fred finally announced his candidacy and became impatient when he was slow in the start-up. He should have known he would not have sole control of his destiny.

I watched every televised debate. They were all for show. The moderators had their questions ready and knew who they would be directed to.

From the beginning,it was the McCain,Rudy,Romney and Huckabee Show. The others were already also rans.

On several debates the four squabbled among themselves. Occasionally a question was directed to the others.

It is clear to me,Thompson would have gone nowhere this year if he had started months before he did. He was not their media-man.

It was pre-ordained that McCain would be the nominee. Even the Fox Debate manipulated it. i wonder, if they have any second thoughts about their folly, now? I know I feel cheated.

Wow......
I was devastated when Senator Thompson didn't get enough votes for the nomination. That is one of the most moving speeches I have read in a long time. It came from his heart. Maybe he was channeling President Reagan. :)

The only change Obama will
actually produce is changing his mind.

He is already well on his way to undermining and repudiating all the "change" he touted in the primaries, believing I guess that the people who nominated him are idiots and dolts who have already forgotten the change and hope he was so generous in promoting.

In the end, Obama's change is as ephemeral and empty as his record and experience. Expect many more "changes" to issue from the Obama camp as the summer progresses.

Food for thought

Since there is a limit on donations to a candidate, Where the heck is all the donations to Obama comeing from, could it be from the arab nations??

Well Said Fred!!
It's good to hear from a true social conservative. Obama's track record on abortion and a host of other issues belays the rhetoric that he uses to convince the masses. DON'T BE FOOLED BY HIS FORKED TUNG!!! His words do NOT match his works, and if elected POTUS he will reform the government in his image. I don't agree with everything McCain stands for, but he at least will keep the country from back-sliding into a state of tyranny against religion and families who want to raise their children in a moral society.

CHANGE
HERE'S AN IDEA FOR CHANGE-GO AWAY OBAMA AND HIDE YOUR HEAD IN SHAME FOR ALL THE EVIL THINGS YOU AND YOUR WIFE SPEW FROM YOUR MOUTH'S FRANK TX

Pffffttttt.......

Thompson dithered and squandered his opportunity to be meaningful in this election; now he's just another political has-been.

Obviously, he didn't even stand for truly principled conservatism, if the best he can do is act as an apologist for McCain; obviously just another party-uber-alles type.

BTW, Fred, I want a refund of my donations to you!

Abortion
I think abortion is appropriate in given circumstances and in the "very" early stages only, such as rape, or possible death to a mother when other children need her, or other reasons deemed necessary by a reputable doctor should be allowed. I don't believe in the wholesale abortion as it’s is being done in street “corner clinics”. What is worse, abortion in the early stages of the pregnancy or a mother who throws her baby away in a toilet? Circumstances should be the driving force behind abortion and not just completely one way or the other and of course always in the very early stages. One doesn’t have to be 5 months pregnant to know she’s pregnant.

Glad to see Mr Thompson reminding us
of the important constitutional principles of America. He was my favorite of all the GOP candidates.

It's also good that he reminds us that Obama hates babies even more than NARAL. See “‘Bioethicists’ and Obama agree: infanticide should be legal” ‘Bioethicists’ and Obama agree: infanticide should be legal http://creationontheweb.com/content/view/5828/ But where are all the evangelical leaders? Too keen to get a photo op with Obama to call him to account?

Iam...
It's a good thing your mother didn't choose abortion, don't you think? And isn't it wonderful to live in a country where you can publicly call for death to those who are less than perfect. Being the mother of a child who would have died from respiratory distress before the advent of life-saving procedures (i.e., John Kennedy's baby, Patrick), I condemn your statements, which is also my right. To call a child a "freak" is beyond disgusting...I consider it to be blasphemous, as all life is from God. If you don't believe in God, then I pity you and will pray for you. If you do believe in God, then please reconsider this position you are taking in conjunction with those beliefs. Kudos to Fred Thompson for standing up for his beliefs and kudos to the GOP's who take a stance on behalf of life. I pray that someday this will no longer be an issue and that all Americans will come down on the "right" side...the side for life.

Preaching to Choir
It does not take much to stir up the fellowers of Fred. It is too bad that Fred did not get to run for the President, for he an Obama would have a great time at it. I would say that Fred could wipe out Obama every day of the year.
Fred would not need speech writers like Obama does. Maybe Fred could take away that glow that Obama think he has.
But we will never know.
To bad he can only preach to those few who fellow Fred and will fade to writing blogs.
Oh well there is allways 2012.

The American Patriot
The American Patriot to me is one who loves their Country and wish America no harm for any reason.

The American Patriot is male, female and children of every nationality, race, ethnic background and religion who wish America no harm for any reason.

The American Patriot are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom who wish America no harm.

The American Patriot ia proud of their flag and the Statue of Liberty which "welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed" and wishes America no harm.

The American Patriot takes pride in the greatest Warriors in the history of man - the American Soldier and wish America no harm.

The American Patriot looks at their sons and daughters in uniform with tears in their hearts and pride on their faces as their children goes off to defend the greatest country ever on this planet and wish America no harm.

The spouse and children of the American Patriot with anxiety in their hearts and faces shining with pride watch as their American Warrior leaves to defend America.

The American Patriot lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world.

The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness and the right to self determination and wish America no harm.

The American Patriot does not want to weaken America in dangerous times for political reasons.

The American Patriot does not put ideology first and America second to harm it in hopes it will learn a 'lesson'.

God Bless America and its' Patriots!

The American Warrior
The American Warrior is someone who is walking the hero's path. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness.

The American Warrior is someone who frightens many people because they live in denial of reality, the American Warrior reminds those people that violence exists in the world.

The American Warrior has the capacity for violence towards those who threaten America and the American way of life.

The American Warrior is a constant reminder that there are terrorists in the land and those that wish to destroy America are already here on American soil.

The American Warrior on September 11, 2001, rushed towards the danger instead of fleeing from it, intent on defending and helping those American citizens in danger. Many American Warriors gave their lives that day and many more were willing to give the ultimate sacrifice for America and its citizens.

Most Americans are glad that they were not on the planes that crashed into the WTC and the Pentagon - the American Warrior wished they had been on those planes because they might have made a difference.

American Warriors were on United Airlines Flight 93 and defended unto death America and its citizens with the cry "lets roll".

The American Warrior waits for the day that they have lived for and trained for their entire life - to defend until death, America and its citizens.

"There is no safety for honest men except by believing all possible evil of evil men." - Edmund Burke

This 4th of July, I salute the American Warrior, both living and dead. Men and women who serve in the Armed Forces, Police Forces, Fire Departments and ordinary civilians who rush forward to our defense instead of running from danger.

The American Warrior who wishes no harm to America - God Bless You!

Awesome as usual
people know the truth when they hear it. This should be shouted from the rooftops and copied to every conservative blog and posted where every American who loves their country. How can there be any arguement when everything he just said so true. Obama would destroy the America so many fought and died for. He would change the American way of life so as we would recognize her in just a few short years. McCain may not be your first choice but consider the alternative. Thank you so much.Fred.

The Alternative:
Because of the direction our Supreme Court has taken and ridiculous decisions they have made lately, Fred is correct that we analyze the two major candidates: Obama and McCain. One (Obama) would install judges that follow no Constitutional directive but instead a political agenda that would only reduce the freedoms we have come to enjoy. The other (McCain) promises Constitutional judges even though he hedges at times. The first, none, and the second perhaps. I will settle for the perhaps which is better than none. The next generation deserves a return to "our Founding Fathers" and right now as Thompson has so rightfully explained, McCain is our only choice in this sad, brainwashed America.

God has truly Blessed this man....
And my heart breaks for this Wonderful Country and future generations IF we don't stand up and Listen and heed to what Great men like Senator Thompson have to say!! God help us!!
Thank you Fred Thompson and may God continue to Bless you and yours!
