Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

WASHINGTON -- The national news media has been treating Barack Obama's first 100 days as a historical landmark, as if he's done great things instead of doing what we routinely expect from our presidents.

That is, to submit the major items on his campaign agenda to Congress for its approval that hasn't been very hard to get, considering his party has majority control of both chambers. Try getting your agenda, including the biggest tax cut in history, through a House controlled by the opposition party. Ronald Reagan did it against great odds as the economy sank into the worst recession since the Great Depression, and faced down the Evil Empire in the Cold War, to boot.

Obama also faces a nation plunging into a severe recession and two wars in distant lands. Congress has trimmed and passed his economic-recovery spending bill, enacted last year's leftover omnibus appropriations package, and has all but adopted his budget proposals with modifications.

But the vexing problems he came into office to fix not only remain, they have worsened -- and his job-approval polls have been sinking.

Unemployment continues its upward climb and will likely skirt 9 percent next week, and the economy continues to shrink. Mortgage foreclosures are rising, home values are falling, Obama's prescriptions for what ails us will add $9 trillion to the nation's debts, and government accountants say only a relatively small portion of the infrastructure stimulus funds will be spent before this year is over.

Abroad, Al Qaeda in Iraq has begun a new offensive to test Obama's mettle; the Taliban terrorists are resurgent in Afghanistan, threatening that country's tenuous democracy and flexing their muscles in Pakistan where a takeover would put nuclear weapons into their hands. Iran is becoming a threatening nuclear power. North Korea is close to developing medium-range missile capabilities.

Obama went to the economic summit in Europe to ask -- make that beg -- the G-20 industrial powers to pump billions more into their economies and to send combat troops into Afghanistan to fight the Taliban. He came home empty-handed on both counts.

The administration is closing Guantanamo prison without any decision on where we will put the most dangerous terrorists on the face of the earth. He banned aggressive interrogation and released classified memos -- against the advice of high-level intelligence officials -- that spelled out in minute detail how they are carried out, giving Al Qaeda and Taliban cutthroats critical information about how to withstand such practices.

The White House and Democrats have pounded former Vice President Dick Cheney for having the temerity to say Obama's actions have endangered U.S. national security, but it appears that a majority of the Americans agree with him.

A Pew Research Center poll reported last week that nearly half of Americans surveyed said torturing terrorists is often or sometimes justified. A 54 percent majority of independents agreed.

A Gallup Poll reported this week that a 55 percent majority now think "the use of harsh interrogation techniques for terrorism suspects was justified." Among those who said they have followed the issue closely, 61 percent said such methods were justified.

Obama remains personally popular, but his job-approval polls have been steadily declining -- unusual for a president this early in his tenure. When Gallup asked 1,051 Americans last week how they would rate the job the president is doing, just 33 percent said good rather than excellent (23 percent). This compared with 23 percent who said "just OK," 9 percent who said "poor," and 11 percent who said "terrible." Two percent offered no opinion.

The continuing decline in his job-approval scores has been stunning for someone who hasn't been in office that long. A CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll on Feb. 7-Feb. 8 gave him a 76 percent rating. By April 23-April 26, his score had fallen to 63 percent, a 13 percent decline in less than three months.

Gallup's 56 percent excellent/good job-approval score showed an even deeper decline.

The Politico Web site last week compared the average approval scores of Obama (62 percent) with his four predecessors. He did no better than George W. Bush, who was at 62 percent at this time. Bill Clinton's score was 55 percent, while George H.W. Bush stood at 58 percent. All of them paled to Reagan, however, whose average approval rating at this juncture hit 83 percent.

Barack Obama still has a lot to prove and to begin appraising his work at the 100-day mark may be premature. His numbers will no doubt rise and fall in the months and years to come.

But for the national news media to suggest that his first 100 days are in some way comparable to FDR's whirlwind beginning is sophomoric and silly. This is not the Great Depression, not even close. Other presidents have led us out of recessions, and the test for this president is whether he can do the same without bankrupting the country for a generation.

What should be obvious, though, is that Obama is losing his support as more Americans are beginning to doubt that he knows what he's doing.

I'd rather be irelevant than superfluous.

100 Days of Awesome
Obama rocks.

It's unfortunate for you guys, but you are becoming less and less relevant by the day.

Try come up with something new besides abortion, guns, gay marriage, and the terrorizers.

Lambro:
Oh, do tell us what a marvel Reagan was and has
continued to be through the years and what a
piker Obama is. Everyone says that Obama is a
real do-nothing President. Non-involved, doesn't understand the issues, just around for
the photo ops. Oh, if only he would just let
the market take care of itself, we would all
be so much better off.

I would suggest, Mr. Lambro, if you want to
do something useful for your party you ought
to find a way to help it survive. Cuz right
now, it is going down the tubes.

Seeing how well you did in Iraq and Afghanistan and the fact that the Russians would get pretty upset as would the rest of the world, I wouldn't advise it. The pro-Iranian Hezbollah down in South America might also decide to invade the US and play tit for tat--like spraying some shopping malls and the like with machine gun fire or blowing themselves up in the middle of airports.

If the US did this and you were an American outside the US, I'd deny it if asked. Say you are a Canadian or from Iceland or someplace.

Maybe our ex-Canadian friend here at TH can give you pointers on the accent.

Obama could be FDR
F1etch
It's really nice to read your comments of FDR. That catfish did away with the gold standard too, turning over fully to the Federal Reserve, something that was started in 1913. Now our fiat money reads "Federal Reserve Note" rather than Silver of Gold certificates.
The Fed should be abolished. That would be one step toward economic recovery. Obama is not FDR, but give him time he's trying. And to those reading this comment, if you think the Fed is indispensible, it isn't, but it will require the blood of some innocent crusaders who attack it. Look up J.S. McFadden's (Rep from Ohio) speech of June 9th 1933. Shortly, there after, he was assassinated by poisoning.
And then there's the questionable assassination of John F. Kennedy who had just recently, prior to that day, had authorized the re-institution of the Silver standard.

Akagi
So you're suggesting we should invade them as soon as possible, so that we won't have to nuke them, correct?

FDR? Not even Dhimmi Carter
even Carter did not fly to Ottawa (in fact, EVER) with almsbowl in hand to unruffle feathers--while Oblunder did so within his first 30!

Denise
"The world intelligence community has it being within 60 days."

No. The Israeli propaganda or to be accurate the Likud propaganda machine does. Most experts have it no sooner than a year and Ahmadinejad is a figurehead with no control over Iran's nuclear program. As far as that goes, since the last non-nuclear Axis of Evil was invaded and occupied by US troops, I'd want to have nuclear weapons post haste if I was in Iran's shoes especially since I'd have thousands of US troops on both sides of me not to mention Israel's PRC-sized nuclear stockpile.

"He was not legally qualified to be president because he was born in Kenya."

Not a single piece of evidence. No evidence his mom was in Kenya in 1961 (or ever as far as that goes), or his dad in 1961, no passport stamps, visa applications, N-400s...nothing.

Also, you can be born outside the US and still qualify to be president--e.g. George Romney.

That clause should be repealed anyway, but in any event, as for Obama, it is moot.

The House
In 1981 and 1982, Reagan had de facto control of the House as the boll weevil Democrats supported him on many issues such as tax cuts. It wasn't as difficult as you imagine.

Lon - double huh?
So it's okay if "maybe his policies won't work" so long as he's currently popular? Saddam and Mussolini had high poll numbers, too. Guess how their stories ended.

Huh?
Obama must be very worried about this fictional dramatic plunge in his approval ratings. It probably has him ignoring all of the polling that shows his popularity fluctuating in the healthy 60% rate.

Maybe his policies won't work, but that the evidence for this is fictional does not exactly support that case.

FDR he is not
The US President he is not. He was not legally qualified to be president because he was born in Kenya. If someone has to say that every day until it sinks in, I'll join the chorus.

His "birth certificate" was produced on a computer, saying that he was born in Kapiolani Hospital in Honolulu. Kapiolani Hospital has no record of his birth in that place.

Keep believing the hype and watch your country get flushed down the toilet. His Presidency is a lie.

Actually, He IS FDR
History lesson:

When FDR came to power (as now), the economy was in a severe crisis becasue of Fed policy and government interference with the economy. He took office iin a backlash against a Republican president who simply made matters much worse (in Hoover's case, by trying to keep wages from falling).

From the outset, Hoover undertook a truly disastrous economic policy which included bailouts, giving more power to the Fed, interfering still further with markets, continuing the wrong-headed policies of his predecessor, etc. that resulted in still more bank closures, and a significant lengthening of the financial crisis (including the Roosevelt Recession of 1936-7 - that some fools blame on attempts to balance the budget even though the downturn preceded those efgforts, but that's Keynesian apologists for you).

And, contrary to popular myth, on the foreign policy front, FDR endangered this country, refusing to lift an embargo on the Japanese even after they agreed to capitulate to every one of the demands that accompanied the embargo in the first place.

FDR's policies were an unmitigated disaster, with devastating economic consequences that have lasted until today (and contributed to this crisis).

The similarities to Obama (including the ignorant, uniformed fawning of the Left) are undeniable.

Some Food For Idiots...

Hey, idiots!

Ahmadinejad is using Obama's "Yes, We Can!" slogan for his own campaign.

Iran will have nuclear weapons a lot more quickly than you would even begin to fathom. (HINT: The world intelligence community has it being within 60 days).

Ahmadinejad believes that the 12th Imam will return on 08.22.09, but Iran must reign down incredible death and destruction in order for that event to occur. The Mullahs are in agreement.

Nethanayu has placed "The Samson Option" on the table.

The Paskistani government may very well be toppled by a Taliban-allied military, according to Hillary Clinton.

AQ is smiling now that they know the least they will be subjected to is a cup of tea and the AFM.

Mexico is one the verge of collapse, economically, and as result of the narco-wars.

Illegals may very well cross the border for free medical care carrying the swine flu with them.

A DC circuit judge has ordered that all oil and gas leases in the GOM and Alaska awarded beginning in 2007 be stayed meaning that energy costs will skyrocket. Think that you are out of the woods? Consider: #1) wind and solar account for only 1% of all energy nationwide; #2) there exists no viable alternative producible in commercial quantities; #3) any alternative power for the country in the technology for complete national greening is decades away; and, #4) the EPA has already implemented a stealth cap-n-tax regulation that will increase your energy bills by 50%.

And, my Democratic Senator, Mary Landrieu, is on the record as being opposed to EFCA, cap-n-tax, and, possibly, against the FOCA.

"Yes, We Can!" In Iran

If it worked for Obama, why wouldn't Ahmadinejad use the same slogan for his campaign?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/28/ahmadinejad-borrow s-obama_n_192460.html

Maybe, he can slapped an Obama "Hope and Change" logo on the nuclear weapon Iran is in the process of finalizing with the hopes of vaporizing Israel.

Actually, if his numbers
are dropping, it is because Americans are beginning to BELIEVE that he DOES know what he is doing - nationalizing the banks, nationalizing auto manufacturing, nationalizing health care, raising taxes, discouraging private charitable giving, and giving aid to our enemies by running his own country down, promising unilateral disarmament, revealing our interrogation methods, and releasing terrorists.
