Are you struggling to keep up with rising gas prices?

This week, the White House sent around a memo titled: “Senator Harry Reid, Then & Now.” It quoted Reid back in November saying: "We're not going to do anything to limit funding or cut off funds" for Iraq. It then quoted Reid a few days ago saying he would co-sponsor a bill to cut off exactly such funding.

The White House’s evident goal here was to highlight Reid’s inconsistency and perhaps even suggest he has broken a solemn promise. But that misses the more salient point: Why has Reid, now Senate majority leader, shifted positions on this key issue?

The likely answer can be found in a press release by Senator Russ Feingold, a Wisconsin Democrat and a co-sponsor of the same bill. “Congress,” he said, “has a responsibility to end a war that is opposed by the American people …” Other opponents of the mission in Iraq have been echoing this talking point as well.

We like to think of our politicians as leaders but most are followers: They do what they think the voters want them to do (that’s the smoothest path to political power), and they divine the will of those voters by reading polls.

Back in November, even after the Democrats bested Republicans in the elections, it was assumed that most Americans would be furious over any attempt to de-fund troops engaged in combat. But recent polls, taken by such organizations as Pew, CNN and the Washington Post suggest that a substantial number of voters no longer see it that way: Confidence in the possibility of salvaging a successful outcome in Iraq is running low; support for Congress legislating a specific date when American troops will come home is running high.

Should politicians come to believe there is less political risk in voting to cut off funds to soldiers on the battlefield than in supporting a war effort led by a low-polling president, many – from both parties – will cast their votes on Capitol Hill to reflect that calculation.

Few will dwell on the likely consequences of such a decision. Among them: The United States – not just President Bush -- will be seen as having been defeated. That will mean more radicalized Muslims, more volunteers for the War on the Free World. Victorious general have no trouble attracting recruits.

Iraq will undoubtedly suffer much more carnage. Those who eventually take power will not be America’s friends. Terrorist groups will make Iraq a base. What will the U.S. do to stop them?

The tactics used to defeat the U.S. in Iraq will be employed in Afghanistan as well. How many bombs will explode in how many markets, schools and police stations before the polls show most Americans ready to leave that corner of the world as well?

And then? The liberal Egyptian writer Tarek Heggy predicts that if the U.S. abandons Iraq to those now dispatching suicide bombers, by 2015 “Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Sudan, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Yemen, Iran, Afghanistan & Pakistan (at least) will be in the hands of radical Islamists with at least two nuclear powers among these countries.” Continued...

Obviously, when fact can't be found, karen will substitute outrage, illogic and truth twisting, and cowboy backs her up. BTW, cowboy, I don't believe you're a real cowboy. A REAL cowboy doesn't talk much and when he does, it's usually in SUPPORT of his country. Were you an extra in Brokeback Mountain, maybe?

Anyway, I digress. The point I would like to make here is that for all of your pseudo "research" (the Times - gimme a break) you exhibit a total ignorance for the groundwork for our current situation

Let's take, for example, Jimmy-the-Peanut Carter. Wasn't it he who originally emboldened the Islamofascists we now have to fight because his spine was like jello when the first hostages were taken in Iran. Americans they were! They languished for 444 DAYS while the gutless Demoncrap President sat shaking in his Oval Office chair.

Then there was our guy, Clinton. What a piece of work. It was HE who sat by while our embassies, the first WTC bombing, the Cole, etc., etc., and DID NOTHING! He WAS OFFERED BIN LADEN ON A SILVER PLATTER THREE TIMES! But, he "didn't know what to do with him". That spineless jellyfish! Typical Demoncrap.

So, don't shoot off your vituperous rantings about Mr. Bush (who INHERITED this god-awful mess) and expect him to pull a miracle out of his backsides. IT AIN'T POSSIBLE. No matter who he is. He has to work with the cards dealt him by the last idiot in office!

The current crop of Demoncraps are so pissed off because they lost the last two elections that they have decided they would do anything and everything to pull this President down. Talk about "cooperation" and "working together" - name one incident where they have not totally name-called, made fun of, voted against anything he wanted, hauled anybody with an "R" behind their name into court on trumped up, exhaustive, EXPENSIVE TO TAXPAYERS litigation and investigations for NOTHING while defending the crooks in their own closets. Does Sen. Cold Cash Jefferson ring a bell (to just name one for brevity's sake here). Have the Demoncraps been doing ANYTHING to secure our borders except to hamper and interfere? Have the Demoncraps done ANYTHING about Social Security? Have the Demoncraps done ANYTHING about ANYTHING, except total interference and sabotage of everything the President has tried to accomplish? He's trying to save our lives and the Demoncraps want to lay down with the Islamofascist dogs and lick their backsides in the hopes they will leave us alone. You're pathetic. Why don't you garner some concern about the way this world is going to end up if we lose in Iraq - which your Demoncrap brethen are doing their damndest to see we do.

Nope, it's people like you and cowboy who would rather watch America go down in flames than to stand up and defend her. I'm sure you would defend your mother, father, sister or brother if someone attacked them. IT'S NO DIFFERENT - THIS IS YOUR COUNTRY. GET OFF YOUR USELESS, GUTLESS, LYING PAPER-READING FANNY and defend your country. People like you and cowboy make me sick. I'd just as soon see y'all leave for somewhere else if you think it's gonna be any better. Maybe you better start getting fitted for that Burkha you'll be wearing if we don't win! And I hope you can take 5 times out of your busy day to bow to the East, because THAT'S what you're rooting for!

Anybody Who Actually THINKS:
Cicero was a smart man. Too bad there aren't any on the left who are smart enough to read him.

POI: Not that I'd want to be here, but I'd just LOOOOVVVVE to see what the left-lunatics do when they succeed and we are defeated by the Islamofascists and the SOROS AND DAILY KOS run-of-the-mill fascists among us. Do "they" think they are going to escape with their heads? Fools. Fools. Fools. If you don't want to fight for your country or even stand up for your country, FIND ANOTHER COUNTRY WHERE YOU'LL BE COMFORTABLE and go there!!!! Get your treasonous, dishonorable, stupid arses out of America and take all your friends with you!
